Re: Vanilla Mafia - Day 0
Los Angeles and New Orleans are far from vanilla cities. Philly fans are insane, so it’s out too. Bah-stin fans ahh ahhbnaahkshus after all their winning, so no to them. Texas in general has an unhealthy obsession with football at all levels. That leaves Kansas City and Indianapolis.
Kansas City at least knows how to barbecue. What’s Indy got? Mike Pence, auto racing, pharmaceutical companies, and Andrew “Stinkin’ Awesome” Luck. Yep, that takes it right there.

Love finding other hockey fans. Who’s your team? NHL, AHL, international?
I’m surprised no one else checked in during the overnight hours. I’m used to waking up to a page or more to take in over breakfast. It’s still only Day 0 though, so this is not a big deal.

Laugh it up, fuzzball. It at least gives us more time to reflect on things, rather than living in the perpetual madness of a 24/24 setup. There will always be crazy EOD shenanigans but 48 hours gives us a longer buffer between the cray-cray. I need less cray-cray in my life. I’ll use the extra time wisely even if others don’t.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Day 1
LOL, I was busting his balls after all the over-analyzing he did at the beginning of A World Asunder. I was fishing for a reaction out of Sloonei but you gave me something even better to analyze.
So, would baddie nutella:
A) try to capitalize on the first person to throw shade for flimsy reasons in an attempt to start an early mislynch train?
B) attempt to buddy an oftentimes supertown Sloonei to get in his good graces while also setting him up to look bad if she were to flip mafia based on her swift rush to defend him?
C) both A and B?
Would civvie nutella:
A) be prone to such a swift overreaction to a fishing attempt (that didn’t even result in a vote) based on her background in linguistics?
B) have a cooler, more level-headed approach to Day 1?

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Day 1
Looks like a fair portion of last night’s discussion should have literally been in Off-Topic Green.
Though I must say that it was a fantastic read. Coincidentally (because using ‘ironically’ would be inappropriate), my wife’s school district has this One District, One Book program going, where all the elementary schools read the same book. Right now, they’re reading Frindle, in which a smart aleck kid rebels against his strict, dictionary-loving English Language Arts teacher by creating a new word for ‘pen’ and getting his classmates to go along with it despite the protestations of said teacher.
I’ll take stock in what the thread has produced and get back to you this afternoon. Anyone have a player list with ISO links? I can’t/don’t know how to generate one while phone posting.

Listed in alphabetical order, these are the people I haven’t seen any reason to trust yet:
-JaggedJimmyJay
-MafiaMenace
-Nutella
-Spacedaisy
-Waywardson
In a game of 12 players, is a list of five in whom you have no trust yet a bad thing?

Little old me seems to recall more of an over-eager Eloh baddie tell. I don’t pick any of that up so far this game. She may have adjusted her approach to the game. We all do at times. In the absence of what I’ve seen as a baddie tell in the past, I at least extend a neutral +1 to her.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Day 1
Listing those five with more clarity this time:
-MafiaMenace & Spacedaisy haven’t had time in 72 hours to participate much. I get real life and all, but in a game this small, we can’t afford the no-show routine for very long at all. Neutral -1 for now.
-WaywardSon has 8 posts of fluff that don’t even attempt to engage the actual game element. Uncomfortable.
-JJJ warned us that he wouldn’t be around much but, even taking that into consideration, his content is meh. One cage-rattling line against sprityo and a weak, ivory-toweresque assessment of Eloh followed by a vote. The post and vote on Eloh looks contrived to me. As if he manufactured a Jay-esque enough of a reason to cast a vote far ahead enough of the deadline. Artificial vanilla?
-Nutella for reasons already stated. She went hard for low-hanging fruit in both me and now Eloh.

Lame as Tom Brady’s haircut. You changed your vote with a minute left before the deadline. You didn’t even give us time for movement in response to your vote and you knew it. Anyone who does that with a minute left knows exactly what they’re doing- saving their skin in the snakiest of ways.
I wasn’t looking confused. Nobody was. Don’t make it off like we don’t know what to do without Sir Sloonei here to hold our hands and ‘make things happen.’ Your game sucks right now, and the more you post garbage reasoning like that only makes me more inclined to vote for you tomorrow.
Do me a favor and don’t flinch next time. Take your chances on the tie-breaker rather than relying on the Tuck Rule.

Little to read in Jay’s ISO. I’d like him to explain his switch from “sprityo is bad” to “sprityo is good.”
I called out his low-quality post that served as his justification for an Eloh vote before the deadline and it still reads like sloppy work. I see no reason to trust him yet.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Night 1
Lots of culture clash and a sprinkling of excuses through the first half of MafiaMenace’s ISO. Then he gets hung up on the semantics of trustworthiness. His big-dog attitude reminds me of the aggressive nature that others came to this site with when wandering into our bohemian culture from site’s more akin to players strutting around like young bucks. The more he produces game-relevant content, the better I’ll get a feel for him. For now though his ISO leaves him as a tough egg to crack.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Night 1
Lynching Nutella tomorrow is still on the table for me. Her ISO paints a better picture than some of her individual posts. I’ll let that soak for the rest of the day and see what else happens. Here’s what sits ill with me:
-She overreacted to my literal/not-a-good-look post at Sloonei in a big way. Had she claimed her vote on me was a form of reaction fishing, I might have believed her. Rather, she seemed to go all in, as if she sensed opportunity.
-Asking for the stats on sprityo being bad based on self-voting is also opportunistic. It provides and easy way in or out of working a sprityo train into the mix. It’s not original thought. That kind of data is arbitrary anyway. Nothing ever came of it but it still smells of opportunism.
-After Jay voted for Eloh, Nutella echoed his poor reasonings, thereby generating what appears to be justification for a later Eloh vote.
-Sure enough, Nutella goes back to the low-hanging fruit and votes for Eloh. A sloppy vote built on a foundation of sand.
-She even says she is often wrong about Eloh, preemptively excusing her role in a mislynch.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Night 1
Look, I get why some may be skeptical of reywaS. What he’s doing is weird and cumbersome to understand at times, which makes it borderline unhelpful in a game this small.
The thing is, though, that I lived this. One of my first games here I posted only in pictures. Granted, I had a reason for it, but I did it as a civvie. There’s no reason to do this kind of thing as a baddie, because, once you do, you can never expect to receive the benefit of the doubt ever again.
While inferring meaning from his posts is difficult, I can find it in some. He disliked Jay’s vote for Eloh and threw shade at Nutella for doing the same.
He’s not a strong civvie read, but as long as he can inject meaningful commentary on the game through his gimmick, he’s not an outright liability. I realize that “I did this sort of thing once and he seems to agree with me on a few player reads” sounds like weaksauce justification for even a low-degree civvie read, but that’s my reality.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Night 1
Leniency for low-posting/soft-posting is in short supply this game. The numbers do not provide us with a helpful margin of error.
Sabie eluded me in A World Asunder and she does now too. She’s new to me and her soft spoken style makes her hard to read. Of her nine posts, four are Day 0 fluff and two are Day 1 fluff. That leaves her with three posts to chew one.
One is asking sprityo a question that maybe I need the context to understand better. She offers thoughts on five or six players at the most, much of her comments sound a little on-the-fence. Between her last two posts, she arrives at some soft curiosity of reywaS. We’ll see if and how that builds from here.
Until she starts taking some firmer stances, she’s neutral. Time is short though, and as I said- leniency is (or should be) in short supply.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Day 1
Liar, liar, pants on fire.
Other than that, Sloonei reads only slightly below what I remember as his average style of play. Day 0 was. Was your vote for sprityo a genuine a-ha vote out of the gate or was it a get-back-in-here-mister kind of thing? He circled back later, suggesting sprityo was the only player who had done anything worth discussing. Could be opportunistic or it could be a result of his definitions for the game. He leans more toward treating mafia as a science than I think I do.
He lurked and saved his own skin. Why? What made Eloh look worse and more deserving of death than Jay? He also had two votes at the time. He tried to back into a justification later but I’d like him to read both of them again and explain why Eloh and why not Jay.
His Night 1 has left a sour taste in my mouth. He was a little condescending and he generated a fair amount of white noise by clashing with Epi like they sometimes do.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Night 1
Lurching my statement way out of context much? I wasn’t talking about being closed-minded. I was saying that, if people don’t produce sufficient content for me to generate a read on, then I’m going to force a read out of what little they produce and I won’t care if they don’t like where that leads. Big difference.nutella wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:51 pmLol whatever works for you guys but I find that changing my mind frequently leads to more successMafiaMenace wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:49 pmive learned to stick with my gunsnutella wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:48 pmso you've already decided to lynch me tomorrow? so i would like to say there can only be one scum in {nutella, epi}
if nutella flips civi then the next one from there would be epi
lots of shit happens when i dont
and many, many times ive let scum out of my grasps a minute too early

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Night 1
Learning to overcome that visceral instinct has done wonders for my approach to the game of mafia. Getting desperate just makes one look worse in the end anyway.nutella wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 10:03 pmWell I do tend to try desperately not to get lynched.MafiaMenace wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:55 pmwhere did i say that shit?nutella wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:53 pmYeah I'm really clever huh.MafiaMenace wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:51 pmew with the shadenutella wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:48 pmmmmmmm I don't like thisMafiaMenace wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 9:44 pmthat makes a lot of sense
i wasnt ever scumreading him
i just had no reason to read him in either direction
so now i know
its funny how immediately after you make a post about me already deciding to push your hang tomorrow, you come back with this
a post that could pivot shit onto me
Here's the thing and you can take it to the bank: I don't omgus. Ever. If I find something suspicious I say as much. I don't suspect people for suspecting me. That's bullshit.
thats shade, simple as, and convenient as fuck too
that isnt omgus, thats desperation to not get lynched when the time comes

Look- I dig Sinatra but nobody can beat The Marcel's version:
RIP Sabie. Welp, that removes one name from my middle group.

Lighten up there, hoss. Name-calling to that degree isn't typically part of our culture here.

Re: Vanilla Mafia - Day 2
Let me ask each of you a question:
Epignosis- I understand your grievances against Sloonei. Thinking beyond Sloonei, do you have any inklings yet as to who he, if bad, is in league with?
JaggedJimmyJay- What is the justification for you change in opinion about sprityo? ‘Because behavior’ is not a sufficient enough answer. Please give me something tangible.
MafiaMenace- You have experience playing with/against WaywardSon. How does his game read to you so far?
nutella- Think beyond WaywardSon. Who is he in league with and why?
reywaS- Are you buying what Jay is selling?
sloonei- On Day 1, both Eloh and Jay had two votes along with you. You voted for Eloh. You’ve tried to explain your vote for Eloh. I’d like you to explain to us why your mind wasn’t swayed to vote for Jay. What about his posts made him worth keeping around over Eloh?
SpaceDaisy- Where the heck are you? Have you forgotten about us?
sprityo- You mad, bro?
WaywardSon- You have experience playing with/against MafiaMenace. How does his game read to you so far?

Some don't. A lot of us use our past knowledge of each other's play to inform our reads, but it's never 100% of the reasoning for suspecting or townreading someone. It's just another tool at our disposal to supplement the current game's content. It may cloud judgment a little sometimes but we don't rely on it exclusively.
Memes. That's it. Kanye sucks so he probably should go in the PoE just for that. But there's nothing to go on here.
