Hello. We have not played together. Tell me about yourself.
Pleased to meet you.

Umm, I'm a 20 year old guy who isn't very interesting.

Yourself?
I am an exceedingly interesting 26 year old male.

What’s your deal in the game of mafia?
Well consider my interest piqued!

What do you mean by 'deal''?
What's your playstyle? Where do you come from? How long have you been playing? What do you look for when you're playing?
I'm not really sure how to describe my playstyle. I tend to interrogate people a lot, and my intuition has often proven to be pretty strong.

I come from a community I've been a part of ever since I was 12 or so, I've grown up alongside the people there and got some close friends there

I've been playing forum mafia for about two and a half years

I read posts and listen to what my intuition tells me about them, so I don't really actively look for anything specific, I just let my reads come to me -but obviously ultimately I'm looking for scum, even if I'm scum myself I try to trick myself into genuinely looking for scum but I have a difficult time doing that. And of course I look for fun!

What about yourself?
Got any "intuition" reads yet?

Re: Mega Man Mafia [Day 1]

Long Con's posts strike me weird. He apparently didn't read the rules or his role pm, and instead askes all game-mechanic questions in thread. Concerning the mafia recruitment aspect, he asks: It's still up for grabs?
Then posts a bunch of questions on how to approach this game: What are we dealing with here? How do we even mafia in this game?
Then asks, "have recruitment decisions been made?"
But then suddenly understands everything well enough to place a vote on speedchuck based on his game mechanic questions.

I don't view Long Con as being an ignorant player, which is why all his questions confuse me. Is he bad and trying to look like an ignorant townie? Or is he really that bad at reading the rules? I would be okay with voting Long Con today.

I'm voting for Long Con in hopes that we can generate discussion about this post. This does reflect a pattern in Long Con's posts where he starts off in apparent ignorance of the game mechanics and then works his way up. It's possible he was just getting a feel for things and now he understands what was happening. Or something else. Let's talk about it.
Really? What games has he done this in, and was he town or mafia?

This is sketchy, and a stretch, on the reread. It's a sktretch.

It's more wishy-washy and noncommittal than water. Are you trying to be Switzerland here? Are you trying to catch baddies or be Involved In A Discussion? You cast a vote, which I can only assume is supposed to look like pressure, and then you proceed to post with as little pressure as possible on me.

And, I just have to focus on this sexy piece of blather: "This does reflect a pattern in Long Con's posts where he starts off in apparent ignorance of the game mechanics and then works his way up." Disappointed us when it wasn't a revelation-filled-look-at-past-games kind of pattern, but just you saying you see some pattern in the four posts Luna quoted. I can look at the horse picture behind my monitors and see, in the horse group, black-black-white-black-black-black-white, and yeah that's a possible pattern, and no it doesn't mean anything. PLUS, now it's maybe-suspicious in your world to move from ignorance to understanding as time progresses? Or are you Billy Pilgrim, displaced in time and confused about how I could have understanding at one point in time, and also have ignorance at another? We live in a linear world, buddy. Also, I was never ignorant of the answers to my questions, just to reiterate.
So you claim you were attempting to set scum traps with your questions? Or just get discussion flowing? If the latter, I would rather have discussions about players and their posts and reads, than game mechanics. Discussing mechanics is always a good distraction from the more important discussions at hand.

Colin essentially said Sloonei’s play here reminded him of his play in Greece, specifically the way Sloonei treated him when they were mafia partners.

This was not well received as comparisons to his Sloonei treated a mafia partner would necessitate Colin also being mafia in this game. Ergo, Colin’s case on Sloonei is fake. Ergo Colin is scum.
I saw that, but his point was that Sloonei was placing a vote and making up a reason for it. Would scum Colin be that stupid?

Bullzeye - Bad vibes but he appears to be trying the correct townie amount to make things happen if that makes sense. I suspect this is a stylistic clash but it’s hard to tell having not played with him before. Slight townlean. Merits ISO.

ColinIsCool - Destroyed Night 1. 50% chance killed by the mafia. Suspected Sloonei in a way that gained him some flack so possible vig hit as well. (Dare I consider a sker on the Syndicate?) Slight scumlean but probably consensus town.

DFaraday - Null. Come on, DF.

Dom - Null. Come on, Dom.

DrWilgy - Null. Come on, Doc.

Infected_alien8_ - Bad vibes. Kinda ignored them cause he’s new to me. Scumlean. Merits ISO.

JaggedJimmyJay - Destroyed Night 1. 50% chance of being the mafia hit. Acting different from normal so there’s a chance he was a vig hit. Few players flat out said Jay was bad, though. Townread.

K-Ness - Need more. Slight townlean.

My first guess would be that one of the roles of a dead player (Eloh, Jay, Colin) had a condition which would skip the following day phase upon their death, but I have no direct evidence of that. This is just the most common condition I've seen for skipped phases in my mafia experience.
Skipping a day phase is a mafia/anti-town power, yes?

So... either Mega-Man dying caused a bad guy's condition to trigger (way to rub salt in that wound), or Jay/Colin were townies that died and caused the bad guy to trigger (still sucks), OR one of Colin and Jay were somehow bad and their role let them hit us hard when they were vigged. I had a scum role once that would roleblock every townie in the game the night after I was killed. Something like that.

OOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Maybe some arrogant townie said COLIN IS DEFINITELY SCUM and had a one-shot power to trade a day phase for a free kill, sort of like a lynch controller but without the facadarce of votes and wasted day-phase time.

I've been ruminating.
Dang, that last option seems far-fetched, but if that happened, whoever did it deserves to get lynched.

Re: Mega Man Mafia [Night 2]

Analysis post part 1:
Bullzeye gives his reason for voting Quin. He dislikes Quin's questions, and even after Quin provides a valid response, Bullzeye responds with basically "I'm going to say your response looks fake because I'm so set on voting for you." Not the best look.
DFaraday was definitely around on Sunday, but still hasn't bothered to engage with the thread until today. Could be legit busy, or mafia taking a back-seat role to avoid suspicion.
Dom has done very little other than vote for Eloh. Not a good look.
Dr. Wilgy checked in on day 0, but then forgot the game started until today. Nothing really to go on unless it's a brilliant mafia strategy of "just step away and pretend the game doesn't exist"
Soneji checked in on day 0 and hasn't been back. So I've got nothing.
Alien was actually quite active on day 1, but hasn't been back since. On day 1, Alien left his vote on Mac, even though he previously read "Jack is town, sloon is mafia, mac is slightly suspicious but not as much as sloon, same with eloh" I don't like his back-tracking here.
Marmot called me out for calling him an inactive. He actually has been fairly active, but he still hasn't said all that much.. Maybe it's just his playstyle, but I wouldn't be surprised if Marmot turned out to be scum.

Not done, but posting this for now. I'll finish up later this evening.

This post ignores any possible subtlety and other motivations for question-asking, and leaps straight to "false ignorance or genuine ignorance, either way I'll vote for him". The goal is more to create a weird, confusing target than anything else. Not a good look.

Shallow inquisition and platitudes, still unimpressed.

Let’s just sort some shit.

Kylemii - Null. Come on, Kyle.

Long Con - Feels right. I sense town effort, not scum agenda. Townread.

Lunalee - Her willingness to defend her hubby who is statistically unlikely to be her scum partner feels town motivated but I still need more from her. Townlean.

MacDougall - Initially felt very town for mindmeld and aggression but I’m wavering a bit. Townlean.

Marmot - Null. Come on, Marmot.

novaselinenever - Townlean. Votes poured in on him too quickly and his reaction seemed genuine.

nutella - Townlean. Very loose. A bit swingy but that’s Nutella sometimes.

Quin - Townread. It’s a secret why. :D

Simon - Null. Come on, Simon. Likely not w/w with Sloonei.

Low Player Salad, not the worst case of Salad I have seen, but excessive. Speedchuck was low/lazy? :ponder:

... Luna's last analysis post is good follow-up at least. Some suspicion, I'll follow that vote. [VOTE: Lunalee] aubergine
So the reason Speedchuck was added to my list of people I wanted to look closer at (player salad I believe you call it?), was I wanted to analyze those Jack had null reads on. Apparently speed has been posting plenty, and for some reason Jack still had a null read on him.

It also paints a picture of a guy who is very aware of the WIFOM involved in Mac's death, and who understood the strategy from both sides.

Yes?
I guess, but like, don’t we always look at a person’s suspects after they’re nightkilled? Am I not allowed to make these comments? I was wary of bad guys poking at me and wanted to pre-emptively address that. Is sprityo even considering the other side of his argument?

can you elaborate on what you mean by "doesn't look great"?
Like there's nothing there of substance. If he's town, he could be trying harder to help out.
When pressed for elaboration, she restated the emptiness of his posts and put some blame on him for his effort. Looking back at this post in particular now, I do not like that second sentence one bit. It seems to both acknowledge that nova is town while also absolving her for contributing to his mislynch. "It's his fault that I voted for him because he could have tried harder."

Luna, along with Colin, would remain on nova as Eloh was lynched. I don't like the ease and passivity with which she joined this bandwagon. One of the first things I look for when digging through End of Day posts is players who appear passive or timid. This is crunch time, and typically a townie wants to make the move that is best for them, so more often than not they'll be actively engaged in problem solving, even if that means expressing uncertainty. A mafia member will be more hesitant, not wanting to misstep anywhere. Luna's posts here have the look and tone of the latter.
Just some context you're missing: I voted Nova when Nova was still one vote ahead of Eloh. I left the site after placing my vote. Did you know the site shows people as "online" for as long as 15 minutes after they have been away? I wasn't able to check the lynch status again until a couple of hours later. That is why my vote remained on Nova. If I had been present, I would have moved my vote to whoever I needed to to save Eloh.

That does not help me much, unfortunately. My main concern is specifically your treatment of nova. He provided the most convenient lynch option for scum, and your participation was to see that he was on the block and join in.
I suppose you could look at lynching an active, but low-content player as "easy," but I thought he made a fine choice for a day 1 lynch. Couldn't have been worse than lynching Eloh.

He didnt have a reason. Simple as that. I dont suspect you because of what mac said, i suspect you because of what happened to mac, what mac could have done, and what you did do following mac's death. I'm not looking at you from any other angle besides what happened after mac died.
Sloonei wrote: Wed Sep 26, 2018 12:26 pm But for now I get the sense of a baddie making a concerted effort to spin a case against an established suspect (me). I do not get the sense that sprit has carefully considered my position in any of my posts. Instead it feels to me like he just seized onto a suspicion that already existed and is using that as his authority to suspect me.

Can anyone else see that, or am I just being too defenice here?
Here's the unlikely scenario:

Sloonei is town, he gets pursued by mac who is not someone to back down off his intuition. Sloonei isnt lynch, much to mac's dismay. then during the night, mac still paints him as someone bad, essentially a guarantee he's gonna try to lynch sloonei on day2. He even goes as far as to taunt sloonei to kill him. Mafia kills mac and waits for someone to attack sloonei.

------------------

so would mafia kill mac to blame sloonei? or would sloonei kill mac to take the pressure and focus off himself?

Please move past this.

Just kill me. Dr Manhattan taking out Rorschach style.

If Sloonei were scum I would like to think his LAST target would be Mac. Would scum be so bold as to actually kill someone who told them "just kill me?"
That said, the only way a scum Sloonei would kill Mac would be for WIFOM. And what if no one noticed the WIFOM? Well lucky for you, you don't have to look too hard because Sloonei made it very clear that he felt targeted by Mac's kill.

Mac’s primary activity on Day 1 was to smear me. He did other things and made lots of noise, but I don’t think it’s unfair to say that I was his #1 suspect.
Then who was his number one suspect? If anything you might not even have had been an actual suspect, more so he wanted to push you.
Sloonei wrote: Wed Sep 26, 2018 12:26 pm Mac was subsequently nightkilled. My instinct was to look out for people who would then turn that kill against me. I expressed this early in the day.
Then you picked a poor choice of words to express it.
Sloonei wrote: Wed Sep 26, 2018 12:26 pm sprityo, who hadn’t touched me all game, then comes along to declare me his top suspect because I had expressed my theory about potentially being framed by Mac’s death. I don’t think it was at all unreasonable for me to feel that way, and I’d have no reason not to share that opinion with the thread. sprityo, however, suggests that there’s “no reason” for me to share it if I’m town. I don’t buy that part especially.
You can feel that way. However, your words reflect differently than what youre saying right now. Let me rephrase myself on saying 'you have no reason to "share" if youre town.' There's no reason to create a wifom scenario. which is what you did. which is what i've been saying youve done.

Are you defending sloonei or suspecting him?

You've just linked and summarized the entire case on Sloonei from both sides.
You're welcome then :D
In short, yes. I suspect Sloonei.

Bullzeye gives his reason for voting Quin. He dislikes Quin's questions, and even after Quin provides a valid response, Bullzeye responds with basically "I'm going to say your response looks fake because I'm so set on voting for you." Not the best look.
This is such a generic criticism that it could be applied to nearly every vote in nearly every game ever. The majority of votes happen because one person suspects another and that person's responses don't satisfy the accuser. What one person finds valid, another might not. I didn't find his explanation believable.
Oh, hi! You. You are the one.

[VOTE: Bullzeye] aubergine
I was starting to feel bad for suspecting Bullzeye for a lame reason, but then you just jump in and back me up. Why?
