Dragon D. Luffy wrote: Sat Oct 27, 2018 7:58 pm Movie 4 is probably the worst in a more global sense.

But 3 casually forgets to explain the main plot and 6 casually skips the main battle of the book.

Ugh these films.

Best ones are 5 and 7. They are the only ones I'd call really good adaptions.
The fourth movie eliminated too many plot elements and came off as just a compilation of monster battles with Voldemort as the final boss.

Plus it's always bothered me to no end that they completely eliminated Ludo Bagman. Without him there's no reason for Harry to give his prize money to Fred and George, thus there's no explanation later as to why they're able to open and operate their shop. What, are we supposed to just believe that did it by magic?

It's been too long since I've seen any of the others to have specific gripes. I just remember being especially disappointed by Goblet of Fire because it was my favorite book.

The funny thing with this game is we might get some magnificent ties. Because if you're on a townie lynch that goes through, your house looses 2 points. So especially on day 1 if I don't have a good scum read, I would rather be a single vote on someone who's not going to die.
Oh good someone already fucked up. Thanks Luna :P
I'd rather tank the house points and be the last person to dogpile on any given lynch. For reasons.

My campaign against playing catch-up has not ended, so don’t expect to read this thread cover to cover. I’m in the middle of doing lots of homework right now but I’ll have free time later tonight. If anyone wants to talk at me about key points in the game or direct my attention to anything interesting that’d be groovy. If not I’ll just throw myself blindly into the conversation when I can.

The llama method says that baddies are made uncomfortable by direct statements of their alignment. It used to be that they’d have trouble denying their badness at all, but once that became an established tell folks adapted to it. Now the tell, if it really exists, would awkwardly worded answers.

I’ve read like 5 of Jack’s posts but this one had the ring of someone who was being too careful to sound casual.

When I went to sleep there was no Soneji wagon so that's odd. I scum read Juliet until last night and she flipped Town. Jay sounds crazy/random earlier but lately he sounds more sane. Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 3

JaggedJimmyJay wrote: Sun Nov 04, 2018 3:32 am This is a crucial exchange to assess if you are going to label Lunalee a mafia teammate of INH. It covers three posts for each of them, and mutual suspicion is being exchanged throughout. I think the language they use here is compatible for mafia teammates, but it doesn't scream at me. Indeed, moments of doubt are preventing me from harshing too much on Luna's vibe:

INH's "based on my dastardly practice of providing commentary on the thread" -- appeal to emotion junk which belittle's Luna's suspicion

Luna's "But lol, you don't feel great about nutella for her quick flop on you, but "I started it" by expressing my suspicions?"

:ponder:

I hope others will chime in on this exchange. The read can probably be reduced to this point, and it's a tough call.
Again noting that I'm not aware of the complete context, I can read this as a strained bit of distancing between teammates. Partially because the exchange is just sort of dropped here and never picked back up. It doesn't seem to have resolved at any point, but neither of them every really went back to it. Luna moved her vote off of INH and didn't put it back, then later expressed some uncertainty about him, followed closely by conditional support of his lynch, and then a celebration of the accuracy of her read on him.
I share your uncertainty about this exchange, but I'm not incapable of seeing a partnership here. I'm only skimming luna's posts right now, but in that skimming I can see traces of something fishy. I'm not sure if I want to trust that yet, but it's there.

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 2

I was curious because maybe part of why I'm picking up good vibes from nutella is simply that she's voting alongside me, so I went back to trace her Jack case prior to this very moment and... well, it doesn't exist.

What does exist is this list of GTH reads:
nutella wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 11:03 am GTH babey

ColinIsCool - town
DharmaHelper - town
insertnamehere - town
JaggedJimmyJay - town
Kylemii - scum
Bullzeye - town
Epignosis - town
Glorfindel - town
Owner of a Lonely Heart - town
poutanko - town
Soneji - scum
juliets - scum

Long Con - town
Lunalee - scum
MacDougall - scum
Quin - town
Jackofhearts2005 - town
karavalenge - scum
lapluie - town
timmer - town
Scum reads in red.

Compare that to her more recent ON NOTICE list:
MacDougall
JaggedJimmyJay
Jackofhearts2005
Long Con
Glorfindel
karavalenge
Mac and kara are the only consistencies. Three of her initial scum reads are dead and one of her town reads has flipped town, so a little re-shuffling is bound to be in order. I don't fault nutella for that. I am curious as to how these are the names that came out of that shuffling though. I already asked her about Jack and her answer satisfied me in the moment but now that I've got my scrutiny specs on I'm gonna want more. What prompted the initial town read and why has that changed?

I think we need to have a long and drawn-out discussion of when the accusation of "player salad" is or is not merited. Sometimes somebody can list off a bunch of names in a way that's authentic to their scum-hunting process. Other times they can list a bunch of names because they lack a firm grounding and don't want to commit themselves to any particular path. It's the latter that's suspicious.

Is there evidence in support of this theory? Question is for everybody, not just Mac.

Sloonei is town. Sprityo and speed2.0 haven't done anything yet. I have a reason to think that speed2.0's player slot is town. I don't have any reason to think sprityo is town.
Sloonei townslipped. Sprityo has said nothing. Speed 2.0 has suspicion of Glorf and nutella, which I think is pretty healthy. I see from his ISO that he is the one who already called out nutella's Player Salad post, and that puts him a little in the green, salad pun intended.
Sloonei townslipped eh? I missed that.
I did not, though I am indeed town.

Mac's focus on the chance that we are not in fact down two dead baddies is interesting, to say the least, but I'm not sure where to go with it . I'll admit I'm at a loss in the game right now... my suspicions have flopped, my thoughts on lc last night make no sense to me now, I'm going to watch the pats/packers game and then regroup later tonight.

1. MP will remember that in high school English class, Mr. Goldfuss once told us about an analysis that was done on Hitler's speeches. A univeristy group had apparently analyzed a large number of them line by line and found that nearly every one had a net "opinion content" (I'm paraphrasing here) of 0. What they meant was, every time Hitler expressed an opinion in a speech, he offset it by saying the opposite thing with about the same intensity somewhere else in the speech. This made him very appealing, because everyone in a crowd could find something to agree with him about. (Mr. Goldfuss was weird, and recommended we try to follow this model for some speeches.) Mr. Goldfuss also lied a lot, and it's possible he made up that story entirely, but the core of it applies really well to some posts by Alien. Let's play a game: I'll post an Alien quote, highlight anything where he expresses a positive opinion in green, and highlight anything with a negative opinion in red. I think we'll find quite a few offsetting posts.
Yeah these are pretty much the exact words that are being signified by my sirengif. timmer says nothing but introduces several things that he could say something about. Also describes a thing as "interesting" without expanding on that at all.

I was reading the last few pages to see if I could be convinced to vote for nutella. I could not.

No, I don't have BTSC. Reread my exchange with Timmer on the topic of Bullzeye. I was trying very carefully not to explicitly say what I thought he meant, but figured it'd be safe enough to come out and say by now.
Could you elaborate on what your read of timmer is right now?

Re: Hogwarts Mafia - Day 3

Mondays are terrible for me and this Monday is particularly terrible. I’ll be in class when the deadline happens and probably will hardly check in again. I don’t feel inclined to lynch colin. I’ve seen some talk about mac but I haven’t actually looked into it myself. I like my vote on timmed and it’ll stay there for now. I doubt it gets changed before the deadline.

Moved my vote back to Jack because my gut tells me to. I’m still not really here.
