In all honesty, I enjoy being mafia more. I find it more engaging to deceive than to investigate. So, if I look like I'm having a large amount of fun from a game, I'm most likely not a run-of-the-mill civilian.

I can't wait for this to be quoted in future cases against me.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia

After watching Rico get put to pasture in Blue Velvet despite being the only civilian to identify the baddies, I'm willing to vote to protect him.

Made seems suspicious to me for going after an easy target.

Then again, other people seem to be seizing this as an excuse to make Made into an easy target.

However, this is a game with two mafias, so both occurrences could turn out to be legitimately baddie-driven.

No matter how you slice the cookie crumbles, I'm leaning towards voting Made.

Also not a fan of the sprityo vote

In regards to the choice you made following this post.
Eh. I'm indifferent. It's Day 1, my least favorite time in mafia games. I like to base my reads off of actual knowledge, and the standard D1 hearsay and whatforth are more annoying than anything else.

Made was a modicum more suspicious than the other players, therefore he got my vote. Let the cards fall where they may.

I think that's pretty weak reasoning, if we assume Rico's cursed.

Wouldn't it also be easy to postulate that whoever cursed Rico would publicly state how annoying they find Poppy-posting, therefore distancing themselves from the curse, giving themselves an ostensible alibi?

That's interesting. You'd put inh ahead of Tony?

I also think the 'inh did the curse' thing has merit. So does LC doing it, though. It has to be someone who actually read the game it came from, I don't know who was in that game.
I would. I know INH better than I know TonyStarkPrime (however much anyone could "know" INH- I honest to God PMed him when I saw his location was Lumberton, NC, since Lumberton is 30 minutes from house. He never responded). TonyStarkPrime could be the guy I said he was, but so could a bunch of other people. Hell, let him live long enough and maybe he'll expose himself if I'm right. There's still plenty of mafia to go around.
I honestly didn't receive a PM from you about that.

Lumberton NC is the location in which the movie Blue Velvet is set, not my actual location for the record.

speedchuck wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:23 pm Poppy seems more vengeful this game. Sheesh.

INH, what are your reads right now? Last time you gave them, I think Made was still topping your scumlist.
Well, seems like we've reached the point in most regular-type mafia games I play where I start catching heat for a perceived lack of reads. I'll be honest, barring anything particularly invigorating, I'm hella slow to form reads and opinions, a habit which is inherently suspicious to most players.

Out of the Golden Versus Dom row, I'd have to buck against the grain and say that Dom comes out looking more genuinely town to me.

Golden's probably the mafia player who stymies me the most. Despite thinking he's an upstanding guy outside of mafia, I can't see eye to eye with him on most of his preferred mafia strategies, and I have an incorrect predisposition towards finding them suspicious, which can come back to bite me.

Then again, he's also painfully aware of our failure to empathize on a mafia gameplay level, and I'm paranoid that he could be using that to divert me from his own actual scumminess. So, I can't really trust neither my gut nor my brain when it comes to him.

I think Rico's suspicion of me is idiotic. Here's the sequence of events: Rico does the Poppy gimmick in Blue Velvet Mafia, a game I hosted. The players get annoyed, and Rico gets NK'd. After the game is over, I say with the smug all-knowingness that only mafia hosts can have that Rico was actually more accurate with his baddie hunting than the other players. This game starts. Rico has a new emoji gimmick. I defend him from others due to the similarity of the situation to Blue Velvet. I want to see him present his own opinions before judging him, and analyze his posts in order to do so.

I utterly fail to see why any of that makes me more likely to curse him. And since Rico's limited in his vernacular, I'm not gonna get an explanation any time soon.

Not very likely. Rico already limited himself this game with his emoji posting style. Adding a posting curse to him reads like a wasted opportunity.

Also it'd be funnier to curse someone who was in the game and got incredibly annoyed by Rico instead of forcing Rico to repeat himself.

I think you and your team cursed Ricochet. I know people want to write off the Poppy business, but I came in here at one point to say exactly what Ricochet had already said regarding the curse. Someone who played Blue Velvet is on the cursing team. I sure as hell didn't curse Rico with that nonsense, and Long Con didn't. I think you did. It's that simple. Is it a sexy case? No. But it doesn't have to be sexy to be right.

Protip: Next time pick a curse nobody can link you to. Ask your teammate Jack for suggestions.
So, you think someone who was in BV must be on the cursing team. LC was in Blue Velvet. So was Speedchuck, Wilgy, Timmer, Sprityo, and of course Ricochet.

Assuming that LC wasn't the one who told Faceless Old Lady what to curse Rico with, why does it have to be me and not one of the many other people involved in that game?

Beside the point.

Of the remaining players who played in that game, why is INH the one most likely to use that curse?

Keep in mind that some of us didn't play in Blue Velvet and only know what you and Rico are on about through context clues.

Since LC was clearly bad, explain how you are so sure INH is the curser that you were willing to lynch INH instead of LC?

(Expected response: LC was clearly bad?

Preemptive answer: Yes, which you would know if you'd stop pretending to not understand Golden's case on him. Answer the question.)
I don't think LC would curse someone with that. LC is far more creative.
So now we're just full-on insinuating that I lack creativity compared to others, therefore I must be the one who cursed Rico?

Because I've been having the sinking feeling that's been the underlying sentiment behind this entire thing.

I don't think that's it. You revel in self-incriminating shit.

Who do you think cursed Ricochet?
Citation needed on that first part.

You and mayyybe Speedchuck are the people I could see having cursed right now. I also wouldn't rule out Wilgy or Sprit. I also think it's possible that someone who wasn't in BVM actually read the game to the extent where they were aware of how Rico played.

This whole damn thread's so snotty that I wish I could give it some Mucinex DM.

And do me a favor- lay off the snotty bullshit please. I didn't understand Golden's case on LC. Apparently a dozen other people didn't either. I get you think I'm bad. You don't have to be snotty about it. Ask your questions and move on.
Of all the players who played in Blue Velvet, why is INH the most likely curser?

Not just more likely than LC. More likely than all of them to the point where he should be lynch target priority #1.
INH revels in self-incriminating schemes. I just said this.
The literal only thing I can think of that you could possibly be referring to is the Game of Champions where I lied and said I developed a program which could tell me whether or not someone was bad by analyzing their word choice compared to other games. I was an independent role who got more power the more their name was mentioned. This was also like four years ago.

Not really comparable to this.

Epignosis wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:17 pm Hopefully people are taking notice of how Jack is on this little crusade to lynch INH voters. Lynch me, lynch Tony, lynch Ricochet. Maybe by then, people will wake up.

Jack still can't explain his theory that one or two of us were trying to save LC, when all Long Con's teammate had to do was vote Dom. I could have easily voted Dom because I voted Dom Day 1. He's going with this because it helps him set the agenda for Day 3. Don't let it happen.
Nice attempt to change the subject.

This is one of the most annoying things in mafia to me.

Someone gets suspected for weak reasons. But, simply due to their name being thrown around, and a large part of the thread detailed to discussing them, they become legitimate targets for the lynch, mostly out of the other players' laziness.

Epi doesn't want to engage, because the more everyone talks about me, the easier it's gonna be to lynch me. It's in his best interest to prolong and prolong as long as humanly possible, and hope that sheer momentum pokes players into not reading the exchanges and instead assume that there's logic-based reasoning there. As long as he makes me into an option, that's one more option that's not him or his teammates.

I also recall one I didn't play in which you made a bold, open plan to get everybody a win.

Let's do this: I didn't curse Ricochet, and let's say you didn't. Who do you think did?
That was a weird Llama game with three teams and complicated rules.

Both of these examples are of me utilizing special game mechanics to directly profit. Doesn't really track with the Rico curse.

If we assume it has to be someone from Blue Velvet, I'd say Speed or Wilgy. Possibly Sprit.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [DAY 3]

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
by T.S. Eliot
Spoiler: show
Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherized upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question ...
Oh, do not ask, “What is it?”
Let us go and make our visit.

In the room the women come and go
Talking of Michelangelo.

The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes,
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes;
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

In the room the women come and go
Talking of Michelangelo.

And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Time to turn back and descend the stair,
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair —
(They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”)
My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,
My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin —
(They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”)
Do I dare
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.

For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?

And I have known the eyes already, known them all—
The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase,
And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin,
When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall,
Then how should I begin
To spit out all the butt-ends of my days and ways?
And how should I presume?

And I have known the arms already, known them all—
Arms that are braceleted and white and bare
(But in the lamplight, downed with light brown hair!)
Is it perfume from a dress
That makes me so digress?
Arms that lie along a table, or wrap about a shawl.
And should I then presume?
And how should I begin?

Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets
And watched the smoke that rises from the pipes
Of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows? ...

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

And the afternoon, the evening, sleeps so peacefully!
Smoothed by long fingers,
Asleep ... tired ... or it malingers,
Stretched on the floor, here beside you and me.
Should I, after tea and cakes and ices,
Have the strength to force the moment to its crisis?
But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed,
Though I have seen my head (grown slightly bald) brought in upon a platter,
I am no prophet — and here’s no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker,
And in short, I was afraid.

And would it have been worth it, after all,
After the cups, the marmalade, the tea,
Among the porcelain, among some talk of you and me,
Would it have been worth while,
To have bitten off the matter with a smile,
To have squeezed the universe into a ball
To roll it towards some overwhelming question,
To say: “I am Lazarus, come from the dead,
Come back to tell you all, I shall tell you all”—
If one, settling a pillow by her head
Should say: “That is not what I meant at all;
That is not it, at all.”

And would it have been worth it, after all,
Would it have been worth while,
After the sunsets and the dooryards and the sprinkled streets,
After the novels, after the teacups, after the skirts that trail along the floor—
And this, and so much more?—
It is impossible to say just what I mean!
But as if a magic lantern threw the nerves in patterns on a screen:
Would it have been worth while
If one, settling a pillow or throwing off a shawl,
And turning toward the window, should say:
“That is not it at all,
That is not what I meant, at all.”

No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use,
Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous—
Almost, at times, the Fool.

I grow old ... I grow old ...
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me.

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

The question is, who all was in blue velvet that is here. Is INH and LC the only two? I never got a response when I brought this up before.

Gah...4 pages to read.... I'll get to some now and more after my workout.
You didn't read my immediate response to Epi's post.
insertnamehere wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2017 8:48 pm So, you think someone who was in BV must be on the cursing team. LC was in Blue Velvet. So was Speedchuck, Wilgy, Timmer, Sprityo, and of course Ricochet.

Why does it have to be me and not one of the many other people involved in that game?

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [DAY 3]

I've been lowkey suspecting that whoever the Faceless Old Woman is would curse themselves early on in a distinctive way that they can pin on someone else.

It both draws suspicion away from them and places it onto a pre-chosen patsy.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [DAY 3]

Is it really not conceivable to anyone other myself that someone who wasn't directly linked to one of those games either read the thread or was aware of the gimmicks from both games?

I mean, come on. The people insisting that it HAS to be someone who played both games are more than a little suspicious to me right now.

Think of it like this: Rico's curse on D2 attracted a crazy amount of heat for people involved with Blue Velvet. By intentionally choosing to do the same thing with Dom and Rot3k, they're essentially designing a Venn Diagram of people they want us to look at.

Odds are seeming higher and higher to me that the Faceless Old Woman was involved with one at most of these games, and researched gimmicks players used in games she wasn't in to mislead the town and cause mislynches.

There are two possible motives FOW has for cursing people with old-game-specific posting restrictions: Sheer fuckery, or to mislead the town.

I believe it to be the latter.

This reads like a teammate sort of but not really defending a teammate. You're basically saying that Rico might have info, INH hasn't seemed civvie, but really, this means INH is right and not bad.

Neither you nor INH looks all that good based on this post.
Alternate reading: He knows I'm most likely civilian, and is securing "I-told-you-so" insurance if I'm lynched. These kinds of wishy-washy statements give him rhetorical cover whichever way the wind blows.

Rainbow list incoming.
