Rice Wine Goblet
You become impetuous but more careless. In a duel, you will suffer a -1 penalty, but if you lose, you will get a second chance.


Feather Fan
If someone attempts to kill you, it will fail, and you will challenge your opponent to a duel, which will occur at the end of the next Day. This may occur one time.

The Bronze Pheasant has no inherent value; its worth is perceived only. You may offer this “treasure” to anyone at Night in exchange for a chosen favor (for example, for the recipient to vote a certain way the next Day or to target someone a certain way that Night). If the favor is granted, you will pass on the Bronze Pheasant, and the recipient will be free to use it, and so forth.


Kneeling Lady
Humility and graciousness abound in this statue. You may choose to serve someone else. If you lose, you can win if the person you are serving wins.

Use this to illuminate your surroundings as you spy on royal areas. Each Night gives you the opportunity to find out if someone is a leader.

He’s Jade
A number of people have considered the jade of He Shi Bi to be worthless, but you are sure of its value. If you acquire the Imperial Seal, then you will have the voice of the Emperor, and this will enable you to order someone to fight a duel in someone’s stead once. This is a sacred relic, and as such, will not be buried with you upon your death; you will bequeath it to someone of your choosing.


Imperial Seal
Unfortunately, this is only the basis for the Heirloom Seal of the Realm; you need an appropriate stone to craft it. If you acquire He’s Jade, then you will have the voice of the Emperor, and this will enable you to order someone to fight a duel in someone’s stead once. I think that's what set up a very difficult road for DF. The Yellow Turbans should have taken out a large number of the remaining civilians, such that by the time DF inherited the kill, he would only have to survive a few lynches. That didn't happen, and it meant there were way more people alive by the time DF could kill.

Secrets

Pang Tong
You have a list of falsehoods. You will choose one and send it to a person each Night.

1. You have been recruited by Yuan Shao. Yuan Shao is {player}. You now share Yuan Shao’s win condition.
2. You are honor bound to serve {Clan} for the next {#} phases. During your period of loyalty to {Clan}, you share their win condition.
3. The people look to you with shame! Your vote will not count for the next Day phase.
4. The people look to you with honor! Your vote will count twice for the next Day phase.
5. You have intercepted a message stating that Lu Bu wishes to serve someone of the {Clan} faction.

Sima Yi
By the end of Day 1, you will craft three counterfeit treasures. Anyone who possesses those treasures will experience a setback of your design. Finally, if any Wei member chooses a counterfeit, he will be prompted to choose something else. However, if you are dead, they will not be prompted.

Zhang Jiao (Wind and Rain)
The terrible weather will be seen as an omen, and officials will declare it an inauspicious day for daily activity. Any planned duel the Day after you cast your spell will be canceled.

Zhang Bao (Apparitions)
Each Night, you may bring into existence an apparition for the next Day, which will be an account under your control. Its vote is worth 1. To discourage speculation that the stranger is indeed an apparition, you have the further power to corrupt dreams: The same Night, you may send a message to anybody each Night that will come from another fake account called “Apparition.” Apparitions cannot receive votes or be targeted. If you die, all ghostly activity ceases.

Zhang Liang (Rockslides)
Rockslides will block roads and prevent your target from advancing and taking any action that Night or the next Day, including speaking or casting votes.

Lu Bu
Lu Bu is a legendary warrior. As such, he has a +2 modifier in a duel. At any point, Lu Bu may betray the faction he has joined and serve another one. If he does this, the votes against him from the clan he betrayed will be doubled. He will flee from the first kill attempt on his life.

A challenger rose up against someone called D’Faraday, and this vexed D’Faraday much.

D’Faraday cried out, “You weaver of mats! You plaiter of straw shoes! I will destroy you because I despise you!”

Booms Lang the challenger arose and said, “I must settle now who will be cock and who will be hen.”

The battle commenced.

Dong Zhuo had seen enough of the chaos, and with the Yellow Turbans banished or destroyed, he took up leadership and began to mark people for death.

He determined that one of the prefects, who had great standing among the people, needed to die. So he had a bodyguard call Scot Ti in to him.

Scot Ti was enamored to have an audience with Dong Zhuo, but Dong Zhuo didn’t wait to hear him. He ordered him executed.

"That is what I think of these pretentious fools," he said.

There was a literate man near Nanzhong named Dom, whose courtesy name was Act-ting. He was a man of letters and well-respected in his village. He put on plays making fun of the Nanman.

During one of his performances, a Nanman agent threw an axe at him, cutting him down before his audience. The audience believed the performance so heartily they applauded. Act-ting’s last words were “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” using an ancient speech. And Meng Huo appeared.

What he did next will be told later.

We last relayed the death of Sloon Nei. Presently, we shall turn our attention to the fate of Nut El La, who witnessed Sloon Nei’s demise and began to proclaim throughout the province how cowardly the Nanman were, that they should strike down so great a man from a distance rather than face him in hand-to-hand combat. News of her speech reached the ears of the Nanman king, whose advisors told him that she was stirring even neighboring provinces up against him. After listening to his advisors, Meng Huo settled on a plan to silence Nut El La.

His scheme was to send a caravan to one of the neighboring provinces that had not heard of Nut El La or her message. Meng Huo gave them presents of horses, large quantities of millet, and exotic treasures from Nanzhong. By dint of these presents, he gained the affections of the people there.

When Nut El La came into that place and began speaking out against the Nanman, she was stunned to find that she had insulted their patron, and for her strong words she was put executed.

Whether or not the Nanman will continue in their schemes will be discussed in a later chapter.

Sloo Nei had fought against the forces of Nanman many times, and had enjoyed some success. Unfortunately, this made him a target for the Nanman king’s assassins, and his superior officers knew it.

They devised a plan to conceal Sloo Nei during the next engagement. Sloo Nei was draped in the garments of a beggar and situated with his sword just inside the city gates. When Meng Huo’s forces encroached upon the city, the besieged people feigned defeat and let the Nanman in.

As they entered in triumph, the order to attack was given, and soldiers came out of homes to do battle. Sloo Nei was prepared to fight too, only his weapon was tangled within his disguise. A Nanman soldier saw him trying to draw a weapon, and pierced his heart with an arrow.

What affect this had on others who despised the Nanman will be discussed presently.

Upon hearing of the death of Eloh Cin, a foot soldier named Gol Den made it his duty to track down the Nanman and bring them to ruin, and he took an oath before his officers. For his bravery, they awarded him a horse. When the army was ordered to assault the jungles of the barbarians, Gol Den rode out to challenge Meng Huo’s man.

Gol Den engaged in battle with Meng Huo’s champion for half a hundred bouts and neither side had an advantage. After that, the barbarian warrior called for a pause, and each man went back to his company.

“I can defeat him,” Gol Den claimed.

Gol Den fell as soon as he reentered combat, because no one noticed that a fresh warrior had been sent in the old warrior’s costume.

No more of this conflict will be relayed here.

After that time of peace, the Nanman rose up to cause mischief. A few of the barbarians went into a nearby village and leered at a woman named Eloh Cin, whose informal name was Inbed-wao. They plotted at how they might steal into the village, deceive her father, and take her away into the jungle. They sent Nanman gifts to the father and requested his daughter’s presence in the Nanman court, for they had spread a rumor that the maiden was already one of Meng Huo’s concubines.

Rather than let the Nanman inveigle him and his house into intermarrying with the barbarians of the south, the father took Inbed-wao away, and camped at Chou. But his daughter had grown feverish, and it were discovered a Nanman missile within her flesh, all laced with poison. The father sent for a physician, but there wasn’t one to be found in that region.

What anger spread throughout the land because of this will be discussed presently.
