Re: Awful Overplayed Dadrock Mafia [sign-ups]

No can do. TV time with the family and then a relatively early night for me, as I have students tomorrow.

Why or why not?
It'd be a bizarre departure from their norm, which might make it more interesting. If the Steely Dan version was played as much on the radio as the Eagles version though it wouldn't matter. Burn it all.

Steely Dan wrote about addiction, excess, and the irony of having things go you way. How is that a departure from their norm?

CCR is okay because all of their songs are like two minutes.

It's also about the church of Satan.

(Although, in a roundabout way, they are right, if you consider Anton LaVey's moral philosophy)

Re: Awful Overplayed Dadrock Mafia [sign-ups]

If you want some hate, however, here is a list of bands I almost always change the channel if they come on:

The Rolling Stones
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Doors
AC/DC
The Grateful Dead
Guns N Roses
Bon Jovi

These just off the top of my head.

I actually agree. I can't tolerate the title track anymore because of classic rock radio (that's not the song's fault), but there are good moments. I like "Try and Love Again" especially.
It's too bad Randy Meisner really didn't like singing in front of people. :(

Regarding the title track, I think the final line before the guitar solo is perfect given the concept of a hotel and the theme of addiction: "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

That's just good writing.
