Re: Whatcha Watchin? (Spoiler Free)

I don't get to sit down and watch a movie much anymore, and when I do, I often regret it.

However, we just finished Netflix's The Highwaymen starring Costner, Harrelson and Bates. I remain thoroughly impressed with the experience overall and recommend this film.

Problem in the beginning of the movie when everything is oh-no!: You're imprisoned inside a building with no access to food and other supplies.

Problem in the end of the movie when everything is hunky-dory: You're imprisoned inside a building with no access to food and other supplies.

Fair nuff. although

I'm sure they had plenty of supplies and gardens and stuff inside the Academy, or at least a way to go get supplies. Way too many people just having a good time for them to be like, starving or struggling. I guess.

Well, I thought The Force Awakens was superfluous and had some plot holes you could drive the Millennium Falcon through, so my hopes for The Last Jedi weren't high to begin with.

insertnamehere wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 9:17 pm Anybody watching The Good Place? It somehow has better, more unpredictable, yet well-planned-out serialized narrative arcs than most "mystery" dramas. Saying any more about it would ruin the show, but after a mere two seasons, (finale of S2 is next week, I believe) it's by far my favorite Micheal Schur show, beating out The Office, Parks & Rec, and Brooklyn 99.

I'd recommend it for anyone who digs any of the above shows and is into the heavy-theorizing/constant mysteries of stuff like Lost.
We are watching it. I think it's a very funny show.

Re: Whatcha Watchin? (Spoiler Free)

For anybody still hanging with Gotham, holy shit has the writing taken a dump.

Spoiler: show
I'm the Scarecrow, you know, the genius behind the fear toxin, right? Well would you believe that the foil to my fear toxin is...water? That's right! Rinse your face and you'll be good as new! I wish I would have known that!

I'm Lucius Fox, and would you believe that Wayne Enterprises was developing state-of-the-art bulletproof lightweight bodysuits for the military...and that the prototype just so happens to fit a fifteen-year-old boy perfectly?

I'm Ivy and I drink random potions from an old Asian man's safe...which isn't even, you know, locked!

I'm James Gordon and I will go into Arkham Asylum alone to face a horde...without checking to see if my guns have any bullets!

I'm Detective Bullock and I'll stand behind lazy ass officers who expect a paycheck but won't do their job...and let James go into Arkham all by himself, because I know that an army of insane people and the Scarecrow can't bring down James Gordon! No sir!

I'm Barbara Kean, and I died...except I didn't! Surprise! I have a new weapons warehouse for criminals, a stylish suit, a terrible hairdo, and for some reason I need Tabitha and Miss Kyle by my side, because I just can't accomplish anything on my own!

I'm Tabitha, and I could have anything from Barbara I want, so I ask...to cut her hand off, but I just couldn't do it. So I left. I didn't even ask for a gift card or one of those fancy guns.

I'm The Penguin, and I think that waltzing...well, I can't really waltz...into the GCPD among a number of armed cops and rubbing their failures into their faces is the most effective way to run my organization!

I'm Bruce Wayne. I'm...Batman. Kind of. I still need to work on not being a complete dumbass who needs to "feel free."

I'm Alfred, the butler. I'm the only one in this bloody show with any fucking sense, and unfortunately, I'm just the help.

Again, holy shit. :disappoint:

Re: Whatcha Watchin? (Spoiler Free)

Gotham is

++++
Spoiler: show
getting sadly predictable. Bruce Wayne kills Alfred with the Lazarus Pit sitting right in the background. The directors are clearly trying to get OMGs from people who know as little of the canon as horses know of religion. Nobody ever dies and stays dead. Fish / Jerome / Mayor G. / and I assume Alfred is next to join the zombies. Very unimpressive.

I think my criticisms are perfectly justified.

It's a sci-fi version of The Village, only the creatures are real and not a charade, and with characters exhibiting the least amount of common sense imaginable.

I liked it up until the "here's why you really can't leave town" explanation.

For what it was (a 10-episode mini series by M. Night) I felt the story flowed into those decisions just fine.

We're nearing the end of season 1.

It's hokey and contrived (and apparently, according to ABC, "true love" means lying and vandalism), but I think it's very well put together.
