Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Day 3]

I'm switching my vote to gman. I'll give sig the day to defend, since I wanted that when I was OT. Although this insanifier is not nearly as bad as the OT curse.

I don’t understand your point.
You can answer your question on your own anyways. But sig is afflicted by role, that warps things a bit with expecting a particular reaction from him.
Golden wrote: Sun Oct 30, 2022 1:48 am Sig - a top town read on day one, seems to have vanished in day two, and that’s convenient, actually. In the first half of day two I had the sense mafia were under zero pressure… quiet thread, not much of much happening. Sig resting on his day one laurels fits that pattern. Would vote this way as things stand right now.

Sloonei - I think he’s town, no notes.

Vivax - sharp, I like what they’re contributing. Right now I have a decent town lean on them and I don’t feel the need to spend my time casing them. I agree with their goal of creating a town core although I agree with the wisdom of not doing it so overtly in a role madness game… you’re not only giving mafia a roadmap on who to kill, but also who to green and use other abilities on.
You have a point here with him dropping off but then I don't understand your flip to calling the sig votes pressure votes.
I'm pretty sure I said mine was to get him talking when I voted. Is there a way to search for my own votes, when I put Kate in the search it says it's too common of a word.

I think sig vs g-man and keeping the vote tight between the two until at least the last hour or so is beneficial, see what happens if it’s close.
Paying close attention to Sloonei moving _off_ GMan onto Vivax and then Quin making a pretty shallow case on Kate.

Re: Anniversary Game 1 - Classic Syndicate [Day 3]

I'm getting the distinct feeling that the mafia is gunning for me today. I'll be watching for a sudden switch to me late day, if they can get one or 2 civs to buy in.

I'm not opposed to switching to gman. Plenty of votes on him from people I trust. I'm also comfortable leaving my vote on sig, although I'd like to hear something from him.

@Golden I'd love to hear your thoughts on these 2.

Huh? Now I'm really confused. You want me to what?
Have reads on display a tad more openly.
It‘s D3, we should be panicking or something. Plenty of time for slow starters to amp it up.

But every EoD outcome has felt largely random and the players who voted aggressively are being taken out.

I‘m open to the possibility that you are town but I don‘t see lots of efforts going on to sell the wagon you are voting.

p-edit: I‘m the bea voter, kate
I'm really honestly making a good faith effort to play the new style more than what I'm used to. You'll see uptrend there was a discussion about OGs (Which i prefer to old school or relic lol) keeping your reads close to your chest. Also, I made the first multi quote posts I've ever made. I'm doing my best to follow the new regime.

This is the first time I've been exposed to a rainbow list. That is something that never would have been done in the past. It would have been seen as target painting.

From what I remember, he was a low poster in every game I played with him. It's concerning to me that, at the time of that post, 4 posts was hurting the civs chances of winning as we may be unlikely to lynch him (if he's bad) keeping the mafia alive because one player was playing. On the flip side (if he is civ) he's not contributing anything thus being no help to hunt down the baddies and he is simply just holding an alive civ role...while the rest of us who are playing get nk'd.
I mean yeah, low posters in a game without vigilante or town ability (that we know of) that can kill excess is not ideal. Don’t disagree with that.

I am pretty pro posting in general, if my annoyingly verbose yammering is any indication :p

Yes, another good point.
Hopefully its moot now, since he showed up and posted some and I hope he will continue to do so. But simply not posting helps no one but the baddies.
Remind me if I missed it- does he look civ to you with his recent emergence from the sewers today?
That's my concern, I don't think we've seen enough to make an educated guess. He sounded genuine I guess, for what we got.

It wasn’t intended expected to be permanent, it’s a pressure vote.

As it stands right now… I am genuinely worried about sig, but I don’t know that he feels pressure from my vote. So I’m not sure it’s fulfilling its function. But I’m also thread behind. My thinking today is I’m focused on finding baddies within DF, G-Man, Michelle & sig. i still suspect SVS but I plan to let that develop and see if SVS can change my mind, I don’t see the benefit in putting massive early pressure there even if she is ultimately mafia, and I think there’s people (including you) whose reads I’ll need to trust… I’m terrible at reading SVS.

I will be very sus if sig just never shows up again. I don’t think the vowel curse is an excuse to take the day off, and I’d like evidence that he’s thinking.
I'm going to add to the pressure and [VOTE: vote sig] aubergine I'm open to moving that if sig shows up.

So far svs as come in as civ svs imo although I thought dh was bad, that could be partly emotional though...I wouldn't vote her today anyway unless I was certain as she just got her and she deserves a chance to show us she's civ.

I know you didn’t ask me but that’s a big family you’ve got! I’m always amazed at how those of you with kids can still take time to play this silly game on this site. Kudos to you

I definitely want to know. Do you have dogs? I also have 3 big dogs that I got before I realized I'd be raising another infant

Ive also got a step daughter from my first marriage. Shes all grown up now but we are still besties :cloud9:
I’m acutely aware that you probably can only talk in off topic today by the way

Yeah, the wife and I got a little angel who is ~2 years old. We figured before even entertaining having a child we’d want to do a trial run with a dog first. She’s a little pumpkin and keeps our hands and hearts full, and is basically our child. I can’t imagine having kids on top of that.

My grandmother had a habit of adopting grandchildren. I call it a habit, because it really was a hobby of hers. It felt like every 3 weeks she’d meet someone at her church that could use a little extra love in their life. I just went to her 90th birthday party and she told me she has 38 adopted grandkids. That’s on top of her 6 real children and the mass of underlings from there. I don’t even know how that’s possible.

Meanwhile my dog wants me to throw the ball and I’m tooo tiiiiirred :noble:

(and yes, I know that all of the night victims are likely civ, but I make no assumptions--assumptions are dangerous in this game). And sorry that this post is kind of all over the place.

Splints is a good player, and so I can see why she'd be a N1 target for mafia. Especially if one of the players is someone whom she historically has been able to read. Now I need to remember who that could be. And, mafia knows that anyone not on their team is civ, so is a good target no matter what.

And I should have a normal-er schedule now, so can post more regularly. And maybe actually get reads on people.

Also, I swear that I totally submitted a song for the contest, but now that message seems to have disappeared, and it's super weird. And I'm curious where it went to.

Looking at the visible night results, Kate was Greened and Bea was somethinged. Not knowing what role/circumstance had that effect on Bea, hard to say if that's good or bad. I disagree with whomever said it was a result of the map poll--since she wasn't the only Canada voter, but seems to be the only one whose posts have been altered. And she even said (I think?) that it wasn't Vompatti.

I have more thoughts and I'll remember them later. :)

This is an good call out also it should be noted Kates curse was mafia driven while we can assume Bea curse is civ

OK so here are the first mentions of the OT curse. First Scotty points it out with no elaboration.

Then Lorab mentions it but states that it mafia driven.

Sig next mentions it by saying that he's probably thinking its an actual curse while throwing in some alternative ideas about target switching, etc.

Then he says he will soft read me, not sure what that means exactly but I assume he's taking my posts with a grain of salt and not just a pass.

Then Scotty posts a list of players and impressions and lists me as Town Core. Sig then quotes that post and completely agrees with it - with some adjustments which do not include me.
This isn't the pingiest argument ever written, however, I assume more people noticed the slip up after the night ended so that leads me to believe that Sig is dropping crumbs of doubt without outright saying it when he knows that I'm not deserving of doubt. So Sig is on my list.

Kate:
She spends D1 sus on Scotty. This looks wrongheaded to me now, so I am curious if her read on him changed. @Kate What's your current opinion on Scotty? I feel ashamed to say that I don't remember Kate's playstyle at all. Perhaps it's just been that long. The level of sass took me by surprise, but we were a sassy bunch back in those days. She was OT Green for D2, but she got a few non-OT posts off at the start of the day. This makes me ponder if Kate had an OG townslip here. I understand the tinfoil theory about baddies OT'ing their own to buy them space, but it doesn't seem like Kate was suddenly in danger of falling onto the radar in a bad way. Also, if a baddie is OT'd, I don't think that they make the mistake of rattling off a few non-OT posts like that. The rest of D2 was lost to OT Green. N2 she comes in hot and mixes it up with a few people, DH the most. Overall, there seems to be a fair amount of culture clash and adjustment for Kate. Not surprising for a deep OG player. I can see the difficulty with how different the game is now being a talking point that a baddie could exploit, but her frustration seems genuine and I still doubt that a baddie goofs up on the OT bit at the start of the day. Not a lock, but that possible townslip is more than enough for me to keep her out of the poe.

Votes: Scotty D1, DH D2
Scotty's play rubbed me the wrong way on day 1, he is a very high poster - which admittedly I am not used to. I was always a very active player but I was NEVER one to come in with a wall of text or meticulously detailed reasoning and analysis. That test post above is the first multiquote post I've ever made, ever. I do get more rattled when I'm a civ because I start to feel lost and then frustrated. But I suppose what else would I say at this point? Anyway back to Scotty, once more people came in playing the same style as he does, I realized it may be play style and I laid off.

As for the OT posts on day 2, I started posting right away without checking my PMs. I felt horrible about this and I was resolved not to call attention to it unless someone else did first, and well here we are. I feel bad that I did that and I apologize to Mr. Green OT baddie. I'm a rule follower I just forgot all about checking PMs when the days start. Just thinking aloud here, but I'm going to go back and look at who started to suggest I was bad based on the "self OT." Its possible that none of the civs were making this suggestion, as the baddies may have hoped, and started to drop ideas about that in order to get a wagon for me going. I'm going to look into this. I'll be back.

Did anyone tell you how to multiquote? I saw you asked earlier? you hit the quotation mark in the upper right of the first post you want to quote (I have the dark screen, it may be different on a light background). Then when you're in the posting screen, hit "Expand View" over the top of the last post directly under your posting window, and hit the quote mark in the post you want to quote. there might be a better, newer way, but I don't know it.

I'm working on a megapost, bbl.
THANK YOU!!! I do have the dark screen. I mayormaynot make a test post. thanks again

DH. If you are town, this isn’t over. The whole shtick blasting people for not reading your posts: that’s unhelpful, and perhaps if many people are missing things that seem obvious to you in your posts, it’s an error on the part of the communicator.

Let’s find a baseline again- who do you find suspicious?
I have to agree, it also comes off as a tad superior (or condescending) which may be why people were just getting mad in general. No one wants to play that way and I apologize if I was part of the problem.

The ONLY way he is killed at night right now is if his own team sacrifices him to distance themselves from him. This is an idea I wouldn't even have considered in my previous games however, if you can win while dead, then why not?

I was having an internal hissy fit last night and had to walk away from you, in particular. I'll get back to it in the day period. That's the way I play, deal with it.
You responded to several other people and were at least lurking for a while but assuming you did actually step away, now that you have, you are free to share your suspicions/reasons for voting for me aren't you?
As I said, I had to walk away from YOU in particular.
Yes but now (and every time) That I ask you why you suspect me you can't seem to say why.
