Sorry if I have been confusing or not around enough; my life got busy, and I knew it was going to get busy, but it is now even way more so than I expected, in many parts thanks to the teaching I am now doing. At more than one point this past week, I almost even wished I wasn't hosting this game, because I felt now I could not handle it, but I have every intention of continuing to host this for all of you, and for myself, and to give it the best damn hosting experience I possibly can.

Just try to understand I'm juggling a lot for the next 4 months. Maybe more than I ever have.

Sorry that life has gotten in the way; I feel I don't have near the time to host this as I thought I might since I've been balancing the new professor position, and also since I was on a Skype call with one of the PhD program directors for over an hour this evening.

So... post will come when it comes.
This post right here made it seem to me that pms were going to be accepted late. It does say some pms were missing and maybe he'd give it a bit longer.
I understand this. Sorry for the confusion. Let me lay out everything:

I did post that and did have the intentions of waiting around for say, another 10 minutes to see if I would get any of those missed PMs, and for a very particular reason (there was at least one power I should have sent an initial clarifying PM at the beginning of Night to the individual who has it, but since I was busy it slipped my mind, and as a result this person in theory didn't get to send in their power in time because I did not see their inevitable question until the last minute). So, as a result, there was 1 additional PM I accepted, but that was it. I did not get any PMs from anyone changing their power, so no powers were changed from the exact ending time.

Then after just like 5-10 minutes, I decided I wouldn't take any more powers, and then later came to the conclusion of "extending" the night period because I had SO MUCH going on that day/night. I was up until almost 2AM dealing with technical difficulties in putting up homework for my students.

So apologies for being unclear and at first seemingly indecisive; I was juggling many things and trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

Thereafter, I had NO intention of extending the night period to allow people extended time to submit night powers. It was only because I had no time and knew it was a lot for me to compile -- too much.

The summary is: Everyone's night powers were submitted before the actual 24 hour deadline, with the exception of a few. One of those few was for good reason. I ended up accepting one of those at a later time. I did not accept anything else after the official deadline. So therefore, the extra time you guys received was exactly what it was: extra time. I would not have allowed people to change their PMs during that time. Never. That would be unfair.

bea wrote: MP! Is it because we are champions and we should be able to show restraint? Or is it because I'm a nub and everyone always could edit?
No, this is because I had to create the subforum for this game in a hurry and from scratch -- and when I tested the permissions, the registered user's permissions I tested with could not edit, so I assumed it was OK.

Given I see the "EDIT" box near every post in every thread across the site, I didn't think twice about it.

Then the AP incident happened when I was away.

I wish I could say I left the button there for such a poetic reason as you described though. But it was a permissions bug, my mistake. Nonetheless, everyone here knows you cannot edit in the game. So even if all of you could see edit buttons, I was shocked to find someone did it not only once, but TWICE.

I think it'd be reasonable to assume that Zodac's power is still pretty much the same as it used to be, with just a slight tweak if necessary to make it fit better in the game. I can't think of a role on the list that has drastically changed from what it first was.

Let's review.

Zodac was a role in Masters of the Universe Mafia.

FACT

His role could siphon votes from someone to someone else.

FACT

He was a LMS indie in that game.

FACT

Zodac is in this game.

FACT

He is an indie.

FACT

He most likely has that same power in this game.

Anything that has "most likely" in it, is not a fact.

Everyone has pretty much condemned me, and said that they are going to vote for me.

OK...

Unless Zodac was SVS, he's probably going to try and use this situation to his advantage.

Not a fact.

Those were all facts.
You completely ignore that this was mentioned in the thread with hours til night end and his power could have been switched, IF THAT IS HIS POWER in this game (which is not a FACT).

juliets wrote:I am worried about the specter of Zodac in this vote today. Given how he operates I have to believe he picked Media as one of his two people last night and god knows who as his other person (thanks Epig for the explanation of the role). So, I feel better waiting to vote for Media until the 3rd day. Unfortunately, that doesn't leave me with a great candidate to vote today. I'm considering one of the VAL's but I'm not totally convinced anymore that Lizzie is bad, and I'm not sure about Vomps or A Person either.

On the other hand, maybe I'm worrying too much about Zodac. Maybe he would just kill Media and we'd be done with it. How are the rest of you feeling that are considering a vote for Media? Mongoose, I'd love to hear your thoughts but you are really constrained with respect to being able to discuss freely. Maybe you could try and I'll see if I get it. Everyone else, I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.
I am so epically far behind, but I'm going to post this now and then keep reading because I'll forget it later.

Why is it more likely that Zodac picked that guy for day 2 than it is that he is holding off for day 3? And how is it that we are so sure that Zodac has the same ability in this game as he did in his former game (He-Man, IIRC)? If the post from Epig came right at dawn and day was over, I think i'd be more on board with this but it didn't...and furthermore it was followed by an extended night to get PMs in per MP. I know not the whole next day but for a while. I guess I'd rather go with what seems like a sure thing than to shoot fish in a barrel and have a repeated day 1.

This theory just has a lot of holes in it, it seems.

Ok I guess I'm a tad confused by the day 3 plan. Maybe I dont understand the Zodac role but is the whole point that IF he targeted a man with a machine last night, that he can't do it again the following? And if so, isn't that kinda blown out of the water by Epignosis's night post - and then MP's extension of night? I mean wouldn't it be just as likely that the original target got switched? Seems to me we are back to a 50/50 probability at best.

Do the lyrics That Guy is posting mean something to anyone?
I think maybe tomorrow we should vote for Put Identity in a Location without actually saying anything. Just cast votes if that's who you want to vote for. If you want to vote someone else, then discuss it obviously. But if you want to lynch Media, speak not the name!

Also the lyrics mean nothing to me. I guess we're both sick, uncultured brutes.

S~V~S, I really thought that you would know better then that. That's the most stupid thing I've read in the whole thread. In fact, it's so stupid, it's really making me question your allegiances. Usual smart S~V~S would never say something like that. Once again, why are we focusing so much on Media? You know, instead of BOB, or the actual Baddies! Me being framed for an unimportant indie role, and that all of a sudden making me Public Enemy No. 1 is weirding me out. Someone wants to shift focus from BOB, or the Baddies, and a lot of other people are happy to oblige.
You have an actual ping about a player in the thread based on your own opinion and thoughts about how a player usually plays differently (though S~V~S, like LoRab, has always been someone wary of indy roles), but still stick to using your secret program to vote Dom (and you even say at this point you recognize there isn't enough data for said program to be accurate this early in the game).
insertnamehere wrote:So, the name from the program is Dom. Once again, this isn't by any means a 100% decision. I'm voting for Dom, but I wouldn't mind if I'm the only one, just to be safe in case of BOB.
This actually has me more pinged than anything you've said up 'til now about your program.

Also, Bob can't recruit a minion until Night 2. So we don't need to worry about him at all today which makes your vote for Dom and your explanation following it even stranger to me.

Suspicious reasoning is suspicious and it's why I'm voting for you today. *votes*

Linki@ Dom. I don't know what to make of Lizzy, tbh.
Once again, I'm not Media. Also, MP has to change these roles in order to make this a balanced game. He probably changed the effects of the conditions. So, no, you don't know what it does.

Also, it was changed from a baddie to a indie, so maybe the win condition is separate from the civvie or baddie one? Just speculating.
This post makes me feel like you probably ARE Media, and I will likely vote for you today, given this suspicion.

I get what you are saying, talking repeatedly about a program that likely does not exist does not help us narrow down suspects for the vote. However, I don't feel as much aggravation over it as you do. I don't think you are suspicious for wanting to move conversation elsewhere though, as apparently others seem to think.

I'm probably voting for INH today, because if he is Media, I think he could be potentially dangerous to keep around. And if he is telling the truth, well he can play with his program from beyond the grave to test it out. More power to him.

Question: what happens when you out the winners from a years worth of games into one game?

Answer: absolute insanity and much hilarity. I love this.
I agree, Daisy, I was pretty undecided on what I thought he was up to until I read the quote that I made HUGE, above. Why say "you" don't know what the role does and not "we" (including himself)? To me, that says, he knows what the role secrets are but the rest of us don't. The only way I can see that he would know, is if he is that role. Additionally, he can't know that SVS does not know the role secrets for sure, unless he knows FOR SURE that the secrets were changed.
Are you really going to lynch me because instead of "we", I said "you"?
That is quite an oversimplification of what I said.

Random aside, but I have actually played nearly 100 games (that is across 5 forums over 4 years).[/quote]

I have most certainly played 50, and a shit ton of the other players here have played more than I.

What exactly does that mean?

I have been working on this for about a year. The Piano was the first website I scanned. I scanned it before it went down. I saved the comments of only certain people that were on The Syndicate, assuming they would be playing in this game. I only have copies of the comments of certain people in certain games of mafia.

Isn't the program already irrelevant if you told us about it at all? What if some people get nervous and screw up their civvie posting style? What if some people get nervous on the baddies, and they don't post normally either?
If this program really exists, have fun with it.

The reason I told everyone is because one person with a list in this game is completely useless. What was I supposed to do? Vote for the person at the top of the list without revealing why? Nobody else would vote for him, and he'd still be in the game. Once again, I am looking for subconscious tells.
I guess you missed my question, so I'll ask again. Would you kindly show us a screen cap of a scanned post from a game on the piano?

Even the task of scraping N different forums for data is a fairly complex one that one wouldn't just *do*.
That's why I asked for code and a list of libraries.

Challenge: if you have already scraped all that data into a db or files of some kind, it would be *trivial* for you to answer this question:
What are the top 20 words I've used in all threads on both boards I have played on under this name with length greater than 6?
Wouldn't his libraries just be the sites that mafia is played on? I have no idea about this field so I'm guessing not, but it seems like the simple answer. I'd also like to know how he means to use The Piano as a source when it was shut down months ago and doesn't exist any more.
I scanned the website before it went down.
You "scanned" it?
What exactly does that mean?
You mean you downloaded the entirety of the ThePiano Board? If so, please tell LC. He was very sad to see TP go. He would probably like to have that data.
Too bad you're lying :p
You're also talking about games that some of us played 4-6 years ago. My first game was 4 years ago. I was 15 years old. Do you really think that I am the same person as I was 4 years ago?
I see many flaws, and I see many inaccuracies. As a math major, I don't see how this could be considered reliable. I also don't really believe you on it because I doubt you have the entirety of the piano saved to your hard drive, plus RM, plus Prog, plus LP (that would be a doozy), plus TS, etc.
INH, what is your motivator here?

Nevinera wrote:Don't you see? It's a *proprietary trade secret*. If he revealed his code, well then *anybody* would be able to tell who's bad.

That would be tragic for the civ team of course. Clearly he's being civic-minded.
No, then the baddies could remake it, find out what their tells are, and avoid those words or phrases, making the Program irrelevant.

Hedge, do you think spreading the votes is a long term strategy for the civvies to win the game?
This is exactly what I was going to say but you beat me to it. If INH is lying, what would be the purpose? This whole thing is fucknutty (haha Rey!)... INH any chance you could show us a screencap of an old Piano game. A game that we pick?

Re: [DAY 1] The Syndicate's 2013 Game of Champions

Wow you all are a talkative bunch!

INH, your program sounds interesting. I think I have to think about it more before I decide my opinion on it and its use in the games. My first thought was about my son who plays Words with Friends. He went from playing 3 letter words to 30 point words overnight. So I asked him, how did you make such a drastic improvement?? He said, Mom - there's cheat apps all over the place! So I'm not sure if 1) your program will really work or 2) if I actually equate it to a cheat app. Thus, I'm pensive :p I do wonder why you would announce that you have it in a game, which would likely make you the target of a NK.

I think the reason is that the set up of the game was vastly different so we were (me at least) trying to figure things out and play accordingly. Playing in a new fashion like that would be difficult to be considered one's best.

juliets wrote:Hi everyone!

I don't know how ya'll remember so much detail about your roles! For example, in Masters of the Universe all I can remember is having a link through bf to the civv bts was a blast and how MP drove me crazy as an outed baddie. I can't for the life of me remember what I did! I remember one game where I was bad - Kate was one of the people bad with me - and we all had extra bts occasionally with a random group of people to decide who to vote for i think. I can remember I had to fool people into thinking I was good and it seemed hard everytime i had to do it, and felt especially bad about some people like Rusti. That game, whatever it was, is the one I remember doing the best in. Now what game was that guys? I cant remember to save my life.

Ok, I'll do some thinking and maybe some perusing those past games to see if i remember which one that was.
That was McGyver!

I haven't played in a while other than a short time in the LOST game on rev. Glad to be back and with this most awesome line up!
