Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Endgame]

Oh, well that was totally not needing dead red.

LT, you suck majorly. That is all. :noble:

Congrats to SVS, Mongoose, and Roxy (even though you are absent). Mongoose, you did an especially fantastic job with getting us to the end there. Major props to you!

Before the Bullz vote, I had come to the conclusion that you were probably civ. So I was going to go for Bullz and LT until I died or they died. And I knew you'd make the right decision SVS!

Now time for you all to celebrate. The drinks are on me! :martini:

Linki: Thanks! It sucks I was that close to winning. Blame LT for everything. :srsnod: :p

Linki2: You're not sorry at all!!!!

;)

And yeah, definitely enjoyed the game, Rob! Your games are always very entertaining. I feel like you and Alex both try to add some dimension to your games that I've never seen in mafia before. It's always very refreshing.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Night 9]

SVS, all I can say is that if Bullz comes up civvie, then Mongoose needs to go next. If you feel that strongly about lynching me if Bullz is civvie, then that's fine. I won't be a big loss to the civ cause. But it will be another civvie down, and I would prefer that we keep our numbers where they are. I would just ask that if I get lynched soon, that you all need to get rid of Bullz and Mongoose. If you can do that, I'm pretty sure the game will be over.

At this point I am planning a Bullz, then LT vote. Bullz voted for Russti. But there was still a goomba vote out there, so wouldnt have made a difference. Plus with the way Vomps was lynched I think both Russ and Bullz had to be the 4+ vote water roles.

Thats my current thought plan.
I'm pretty sure that Bullz would have to be one of his teammates. LT I'm still unsure about. So I would prefer to go after Bullz next as well.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Day 8]

Also, I'm voting now because I'm leaving in a few minutes to go to a minor league baseball game with some friends tonight. So I won't be back until after the lynch.

The other thing I forgot to address was the questions I had asked the 3 players who voted for me. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to devote to this game that I would have wanted. And I certainly was blindsided with pushing against Elo as hard as I did. But for the most part, I've been trying my best to ensure a civvie victory. I've been trying to horde up coins in hopes that I could buy a 1-Up for either gleam or Snowy, but I don't have enough yet to be able to afford that. :( And while I would be sad to get lynched at this point, there are more important civvies out there than me so I could deal with it. I do think me getting lynched would shed a lot of light on who the remaining baddies are for the rest of the civvies though.

It's really not that bad, espeically considering Day 1 was a lot of OT. I think it's inconsiderate to ask us to rehash our positions because of your absence and threaten us with your vote if we don't comply, and I'm not going to do it. Vote me if you must, but I'd prefer you do your own readthrough and make an educated decision.

And Bullz, no idea about MP. I mean, he is our foe, so technically we'd all we right in voting him, but since he still seems dead t might not be very productive.

Linki: Never mind.
I agree, I think my exhaustive account yesterday of what I've done for the civ cause, why I voted for you, and I why I won't be voting for you today was adequate.

And all, we shouldn't assume that out of Bullz and BirdwithTeeth only one is bad. I've not suspected Bullz as much as some of you but many have seen the case.

Also, I think something is screwy with what BWT said happened to him. So were you Goomba'd (which would be by the Grass King) or Frozen (Frozen would be duplicative in parts to the Grass King's abilities, but it would alert us that there were at least two kings voting for BWT yesterday. This doesn't prove BWT's guilt certainly, but definitely demonstrates that at least two civs think he is suspicious).

That said, I know what it's like to be as busy as BWT, and that's definitely a position I empathize with. Anyway, I want to give him some time. Time to hear from him on what he has done for the civ cause, as well as answering all the questions he asked from Russti, Bullz and myself. What's good for the (Mon)goose is good for the Gander.
I wasn't both Goomba'd and frozen. I was Goomba'd, yes. But someone else also used a Music Box on me, which seems very similar to what the Ice King can do. I couldn't post or vote because of that box.

Russ, the reason I asked for those summaries is because I actually don't have time to go back and read through the majority of 28 pages right now. I wish I did, but I don't have the luxury of that time. Hence why I asked for brief answers to a few questions. I wasn't expecting a novel back from any of you, just some information. And idk why you didn't want to give that to me. Afraid to self-incriminate maybe? :eye:

As for lynching LT, it's something I've gone back and forth on. On one hand, I can understand her not having a lot of time for this game. But at times, I feel like she alternates between posting a few thoughts and vanishing off the face of the earth. Not to mention the fact that I'm pretty sure you're bad doesn't help my decision any.

I'm willing to go along with an LT vote today. If she comes up baddie, you're probably off the hook for now. However, if she comes up civvie, Mongoose, then you're definitely getting my vote on Day 9.

First off, I had mentioned earlier how busy I was going to be with work this week. That and the fact that the grass king turned me into a goomba meant I couldn't post or vote at all yesterday. Hence why none of you heard anything from me.

As for today's vote, I know for a fact at least 1 of the people who voted for me is bad. Because when I saw Bullz and I were tied for the vote yesterday, I tried to PM Epig to buy some mushrooms. I found out that as a goomba, I was unable to buy or use items. So unless something else happened that I was unaware of, I don't see how at least 1 baddie didn't vote for me. Therefore, my vote for Day 8 will be going to either Russ, Mongoose, or Bullz.

I know you all have posted about this to some degree (or at times, lack thereof), but before the next lynch is up, I would like to hear from all 3 of you who some of your top suspects are, and reasons why in this game, you have tried to help the civvie cause.
There's a lot wrong with this post. BWT, if you were Goomba'd yesterday you'd still have been able to post and vote, your vote just wouldn't have counted. I believe you meant you were frozen.

Explain the logic of how at least one baddie must have voted for you, given the tie? It's by no means logically guaranteed, from what I can see.

I'm still a bit worried you're bad, honestly. Others seem to have thrown out that suspicion because 'Goose and I, who are also under suspicion, voted for you. But the logic that doesn't connect and the disregard for previous thread activity (Really? We should each make a case for why you won't lynch us at this point?) in this post do nothing to make me think you're civ.

Linki: Thanks for your input, Hedge. My somewhat snide comment was, in part, meant to point out that we could've used S~V~S or LT's help last lynch. S~V~S is right that there was still a very slight chance I'd die when she voted (and LT about 'Goose, although the chance was even smaller), but I think at this point we need all the coordinatioon we can get to make sure we do get baddies.

Fair point about BWT, Hedge. I think it is noteworthy that 2 Roxy voters went for BWT yesterday and 2 did not.

And chin up about Water World! I agree that it could be very bad, but with coordination and a little good guessing by the Grass or Ice King we may still be ok.
I think he was possibly frozen and grass'd.
I was frozen and had a Music Box used against me. The second one put me to sleep, hence why I couldn't post or vote.

The reason I want to hear a bit from each of you is because I'm on the fence with a lot of people at this point. But I think I have the remaining baddies narrowed down to 4 or 5 people. And given that 3 of them voted for me yesterday (the 3 I'm more worried about tbh), and I finished technically tied with Bullz for that lynch, I think there has to be 1 or 2 baddies in my voters. From a mathematical standpoint, I don't see any other possible way that works out. Unless you can think of some BTS event that prevented a lynch from occurring.

Sorry if that seems a bit uppity on my part in asking you 3 in particular to do this, but it is going to affect who I pursue for the rest of the game.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Day 7]

After the last lynch, I'm not entirely sure about Roxy anymore, which means some of my concerns with LT and SVS have gone away (not all, but slightly). I would still consider voting one of those two as my main focus, but I could be persuaded to look at Mongoose or Russ as well. I think among those 4, we will find at least 2 of the remaining baddies.

Also, I know we are quickly approaching endgame, but work this week might keep me from participating as much as I'd like. Today was a 10-hour day, the next three will be 10+ (plus the Swans concert tomorrow night with MP), and I will probably be working Saturday. I will try and post a bit when I can, but don't expect a bunch of very lengthy responses from me.

Unfortunately, I need to go ahead and vote. I'm going to squeeze in a few holes of frisbee golf with my dad and brother before the sun sets. I think there are several things worth throwing a vote Roxy's way at this point, so she will be getting my vote. Sorry you aren't feeling well enough to defend yourself, Roxy! But I think there's a good chance you are bad at this point. If she flips bad, I could see looking at SVS as a potential teammate.

Thanks, Russ! I knew there was a quote from you that I couldn't remember fully. And it was definitely the second one. It pinged me certainly when Roxy said she was fine with Vomps stating she was civvie. But I think I was far more focused on Elo being bad at the time and didn't put enough stock into it.

I'm going to read over some of the stuff on Roxy a bit more, but I know my vote will probably be going to either SVS, Roxy, or LT (with LT being the least likely one for now).

Or more discussion about anyone else, for that matter.
That's kind of where I'm leaning right now as well. Except I'm still leaning toward LT as the most likely of the 3 to be civvie (although I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more from her if she gets the opportunity) Her continued silence without even a "sorry, I've been incredibly busy/forgotten about this game" could be enough for me to vote for her later. But probably not today.

I understand the case on SVS fairly well, but could someone re-explain some of the thoughts behind why Roxy could be bad? That's the one case I don't feel I have as strong of an understanding on.

Well at least I was honest. Not much more I can say on the matter for now.

Bowser does indeed have only 1 kill in the game, so the baddies will only kill 1 person tonight.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Night 5]

Responses here will be in blue:
Russtifinko wrote:Ok, I read over BWT, since MP and 'Goose brought him up. Starting with votes: he missed the Day 1 poll. He was very uncertain about who to vote on Day 1, and his last post before the poll ended was that it "seems a bit early for a vote". His next post, on Night 1, said that he had been busy with work and a cold and needed to catch up. From that point on he's voted twice for Lizzy and in the two most recent polls for Elo.

I still have an eye on Lizzy, but given how sure I was about Elo when I voted for her the last 2 times (and given how wrong I was), I feel like I need to have an eye on everyone else who is still alive. Because my train of thought so far has been wrong and clearly I need to re-examine where I'm looking because of my tunnel vision.

His World Poll behavior is a bit strange. I and others called LT out for voting Desert World when the Desert King, agleam, was dead. Turns out BWT did the same thing, on Day 2. I don't know how I missed that.

My main reason is that I have been trying to go in order of the worlds in Super Mario Bros. 3 (while avoiding Water and Dark until the very end). So that's my justification for that.

Another interesting point: in the Coin Poll, he gave coins to me, Elo, and our two dead confirmed civs, Snowie and agleam. He got coins from Snowie and Roxy. Elo has now flipped civ as well. That could be him having good instincts, or knowing who is civ and voting their way to get civvie cred. I just thought it was strange that on Day 2 he wanted to give Elo coins for civvieness, but on Day 4 and 5 he was convinced she was bad. I know opinions change in mafia, and he posted that he was convinced in part by MP pulling Elo's quotes about being civ and happy to be seen as civ.

The reason my opinion changed was because I felt Elo was relying too much on the "I'm a civvie everyone, believe me" defense and the way she started going after LT hard. Even when I felt LT had justifiable reasons for her behavior and absence at the time. That was what made me feel okay with voting for her the last 2 days.

I really couldn't find anything in his posts to use as evidence that he's either good or bad. You can all read yourselves, but besides what I put in quotation marks above there doesn't seem to be anything worth pulling. You could call that blendy, but the general tone to me seems to be that he's asking questions and trying to generate discussion.

I hate the fact that I seem to appear bad to a lot of people in every game I play (I know MP says he gets pinged by me at least once in every game we're in together). I don't know if it's because I say or do odd things or if it's just my general playstyle. But I've tried a bit harder by asking more questions and trying to generate discussion because I feel a baddie would not be interested in doing those things. And I have refrained from doing them as a baddie many times.

In short, I'm undecided on him for now. Nothing sticks out as insanely suspicious. As with LT, I think the Desert vote alone is a somewhat weak ping, but I'll be keeping it in mind. I always have a general sense that BWT is probably bad, which may not be fair to him, but in most games we've played together that feeling has been right. However, he does seem to be keeping up with the game more than usual (since Day 1, anyway).

Anyone else care to read back and supplement my opinion? He's kind of got me at a loss.
Hopefully some of my explanations clear up your opinion on me. And I will gladly field any other concerns or questions the rest of you may have about me.

Linki: Hopefully this addresses some points for you too, Hedgeowl.

I agree that the baddies are clearly running the show. Hence why I'm trying to start over at square one and have a clear idea on most or all of you by the time the next lynch comes around.

Also, I'm surprised I missed those quotes MP had pulled on Elo. I went back and checked on that, and they were only a few posts apart from each other. That kind of makes me regret voting for you to have some coins when you're trying really hard to drum up the "I like being a civvie" banner.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Day 2]

Now that I got that in time, here are a few other thoughts.

After some of Nev's further explanations, I feel like I have a better grasp on where he's coming from. And I can understand why he voted the way he did. As Russ pointed out The all-caps posting is great! :haha::
Russtifinko wrote: I FINALLY UNDERSTAND NEV'S VOTE AFTER READING HIS 3RD MOST RECENT POST, AND I THINK HIS LOGIC DOES MAKE SENSE. IT'S TRUE THAT MP HAD PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED THAT HE HAD SOMEWHERE TO BE AND NEEDED TO VOTE EARLY, WHEREAS AGLEAM VOTED EARLY EVEN THOUGH HE WAS OSTENSIBLY AVAILABLE LATER. SO I WON'T BE VOTING NEV SOON BASED ON S~V~S'S ARGUMENT. AS SOME OTHERS MENTIONED THOUGH, SHE SEEMS TO BE TENACIOUS MOST OF THE TIME, AND THE FACT THAT I DISAGREE WITH HER DOESN'T MEAN SHE IS BAD.
I wouldn't mind more of an explanation on why Bullz is bad. Is it just because he voted for gleam, accusing him of being a bandwagoner, and is being viewed as a bandwagoner himself? Or is there more to it than that?

I'm reading llama as civ too. I think any accusations against him about him "steering the thread" might be valid, but he's done it to an extent in every game he's played, so that alone doesn't make him bad IMO.

Nothing else has changed for me, so that's pretty much it for now.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Day 2]

Alright. I just caught up really quickly and will be voting now. I'm going for one of the top two vote-getters at this point because I don't see anyone else getting lynched. I'm not totally convinced on Snow Dog yet, so I'm going with Lizzy. Her refusal to not contribute anything worthwhile to game discussion is never something that seems very civvie to me. Sorry dear! That being said, it has been quite entertaining to read through some of your comments. :D

Votes Lizzy

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Night 1]

Alright. Here's what I have gotten since I last posted.

I can understand MP's defense about civs lynching civs. I've definitely been on the receiving end of that a few too many times. I remember my first few games of mafia well. I was a civ in the first 3 or 4, and in each of them, MP went and got me lynched thinking I was a baddie. It can be easy for him to get blinders on sometimes. The doesn't necessarily make him bad or good however.

This post is sticking out to me quite a bit:
MovingPictures07 wrote:
S~V~S wrote:I considered a vote for you due to behavior of what i considered to be a potential teammate. Yes.

My main reason for suspecting him is his voting reason paired with the fact that he did NOT vote for the earliest voter (you). Should he come up bad, we can talk. Until then, it is academic.
I agree, but I still don't get this at all. How does someone else's behavior even incriminate me as a potential teammate when there is a reason for him to act in such a way in possibly any scenario (him being bad, me being bad; him being bad, me being civ; him being civ, me being civ)? Isn't that a clear logical fallacy and can you not understand how I feel that's unfair to me?

I can't decide what to make of your intentions, but if they are civvie-minded (and I have no reason to think you are civvie or a baddie at this point), I think it's a bit dangerous to be following that kind of lead.
I'm curious about other's opinions on it. Assuming I'm read that correctly, SVS thinks it is odd that, given Nev's logic, he did not vote for MP. But where did SVS make the logical jump from Nev to MP? I feel like I'm missing something here, so I wouldn't mind an explanation from someone else.

I also can understand why MP might be coming off as overly-defensive. I think it was odd that SVS refused to address any suspicions of other suspects that MP had brought up. But that also doesn't surprise me. SVS can be very focused and aggressive when she nails on a certain suspicion and decides to run with it. I think when you're a baddie in that situation (believe me, I've been there), it can be very frustrating and hard to get away from.

All that being said though, I'm still leaning toward both of them being civ. Thoughts?

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Night 1]

Sorry I've been so quiet lately! I've been really busy with work lately, plus I'm getting over a cold that's been making me really lethargic. I will catch up some this afternoon/evening and post more of my thoughts.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Day 1]

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Seems a bit early for a vote, but then again I don't know where to go in this game yet. I don't think it's worthy of a vote for either though.

And no, I'm still not any closer to figuring out who I'm voting for. I might have to randomize since I don't have much time left.

Mongoose wrote:Yeah Snowy isn't really on my radar. I think we are all grasping at straws today. I'm in with you guys to freeze out Waterworld (apologies to Kevin Costner).
If you think we have enough of a chance to get the baddies before we get to that point, then okay. Although the more I think about it, it also means we will have had a greater chance of acquiring more coins by then too. So maybe there is some logic in putting it off.

Personally, I would prefer to get it over with (simply because I'm a bit more risk-averse when it comes to mafia), but I am willing to go along with whatever the group decides.

Russtifinko wrote:I suppose the risk depends on how confident we are that we'll be able to find them. Maybe if things are going well and we're lynching baddies we can delay while we hope to get more of them, and if we're off track we try to get it over with so we have a fighting chance later on.
Given that this is a speed game, and that day periods are shorter, I might be for just trying to get it over with. If we had longer day periods, I would feel more confident about putting it off and trying to find the baddies. But in this case, I think the less risky strategy would be to get water world over with ASAP.

Also I went with desert world. I'm just going based on the order for Super Mario Bros. 3 at this point. There might be something valid to the water world stuff though. Need to go back and look at the roles.

Re: Classic Super Mario Bros. [Day 1]

I read back over the Roxy/Hedgeowl/MP/'whoever else that was' discussion and honestly, I'm not sure what to make of it yet. I haven't really seen anything that makes me think any of them could be bad yet. I'd need more time and evidence to make or start supporting a case against one of them.

As for Lizzy and Vomps, I think I agree with Russ here. I think they're just loving and goofy with each other, so I think their alignment is irrelevant to that discussion.

The problem here being that I still don't know who to vote for. I still have a little more time to decide though so I will think on it.

I also hope others have any other observations to bring to the table... because I still need to most likely vote tonight. I'll try to wait as long as possible.
I almost missed this. I know Vomps and Lizzy like to joke a lot back and forth with each other, so they might not be taking the whole "civvie vibes" thing too seriously right now. But on the other hand, I could see one or both of them using it as a cover. So to answer your question, I honestly don't know. I'd have to have more to go on.

I'm caught up, but I will need a bit more time to absorb my thoughts so far. I have a cold I'm suffering through and it doesn't help in that regard. I will be back in awhile and will vote then.

Is there something wrong with Water? I didn't really know what to choose, so I went with my astrological sign - plus, I like water....
i didnt know what to choose either so inread the roles and noticed sev eral baddies votes will count as 4 if we are in a water area/land. so hence my wondering about water voters. :ponder:
Do we know what's even going on with the baddie roles? There seem to be far too many, and most have a price by them.
I think the way it works is that there are baddies. Whoever is Bowser may use their coins to make their teammates certain baddies (assuming they have enough coins to do so). At least I think that's how it works.
