I concur. I'm really excited to see how they handle the later books in the series, as I think books 11, 12, and 13 are all stone-cold classics. If they can maintain the level of quality, while gradually becoming more dark and complicated, I'll be happy.

I'm not kidding about the dark and complicated part too, the last few books are basically Thomas Pynchon for kids.

We've had some disagreements in the past over the POE strategy, so Golden (inadvertently) killing me via Mr. Poe seemed sort of poetic in a way.

Re: A Mafia of Unfortunate Events [END GAME]

This game had me doing the most out of thread analysis I've ever done. I knew that I was near the top of the hitlist on any mafia team, and that they knew that I knew who they were. So, I attempted to find scum by simply examining how people treated the two confirmed baddies that I knew about- Nacho and Zebra. Most of my efforts in this game went towards filling out a spreadsheet and noting any interaction anyone ever had with either two confirmed bad guys. Just by cross-analyzing, I was pretty sure DDL was civ, so naturally, I found LC a tad bit suspicious. I went after him hard even though I was only 75% convinced, with the logic that if I'm completely wrong, the baddies will rule me out for being Klaus, which would help me stay alive longer. My entire goal was to not get NK'd. I would've even welcomed being lynched, to be honest. Then I could drop some obvious-in-hindsight hints.

I went through so much reverse-psychology mental gymnastics with my approach. It was all WIFOM central. Aaaand then I got NK'd N3 by a redirected vigilante. Such is mafia.

Elo, did you have an inkling that I was Klaus, and Golden was Mr. Poe, (still laughing at that name-based irony) or was that luck?

Meaning Soneji, Epi, and Eloh are all cleared of being GHASTLY GUARDIANS, I'd include LC in that as well since he was the counter wagon to Sprit's, myself as well as DDL appeared to be counterwagons also, so I don't think we should be lynched this phase either. :nicenod:
Stop me if I'm reading this wrong, but doesn't it mean that me, DDL, and JoH are cleared from being a part of the Troupe?
The Powder-Faced Women – Their vote counts for two as long as at least one other member of the Troupe votes the same way.
LC and Sprityo were tied, and Sprityo got lynched. This means that his vote against LC counted as one, and not two.

Not sure why you're clearing Soneji, Epi, Elo, LC, DDL, and yourself.

@ INH: I think your interactions with LC have had the reverse effect on me as they have had on Wilgy. I have found my belief in LC being town grow, slightly. There is still suspicion of him there, but his responses to you seem more in line with the kind of responses I would expect from a civ LC. Previously I did not feel like this was the case. Additionally, your characterization of Epi's position and vote have not been clearly thought through. No one needs to fabricate reads in this game, there are two baddie teams. Both teams will be hunting for the other baddies. I doubt either LC or Epi are being disingenuous, because there is no benefit to the mafia to do that kind of thing in a set up with two opposing baddie teams.

@ LC: Same thing applies to DDL. You make this huge case that he is somehow intentionally trying to lie about you and make you look bad. But the reality is that if he is mafia, it would make a lot more sense to be actively searching for baddies rather than making shit up. Making shit up is way riskier and offers far less benefit to the baddies. It's much more likely that DDL's explanations to you in response to your objections (he wasn't paying close enough attention, or what not) is probably true. I doubt you have found some big baddie tell in his case against you.

@ Epi: You are an ass when you play this game, you know that? Civs need to converse, share thoughts and express their cases so that they can route out the baddies, as a team. And I have zero belief that you have any kind of info role, I think you just like being obtuse. INH is right that you don't get any right to be smug, but you will be anyway. And no one will give a shit because we all know your choice to act the way you have in this situation has not helped the civs at all. So if you are civ, which I would bet you are, you're useless to us when you play this way. But I know that won't stop you, so whatever. I'm done engaging with you just to be treated like a dimwitted child.

GTH reads atm:

Wilgy strong civ
INH strong civ
Epi moderate civ
MM moderate scum
LC slight scum

Sidenote: If two people are baddies in this scenario I find it more likely to be sprityo and LC than LC and Epi. But that is a pretty big if imo.

Well, you only disproved it, like, 15 minutes ago (and I haven't read it yet :haha: )... and does your "disproval" also contain any reason to think he is town? I imagine it, at best, leaves it at neutral... and a read of Glorf for other reasons.
The only reason people thought Glorfindel/sprityo 2.0 were scummy is because of the circumstances where Glorfindel replaced out of another game as a scum member.

The post that you don't want to read is Glorfindel stating that he would never replace out of a game due to his alignment contrary to what others think. He posted this earlier today. It's hard not to see proof there.

Glorfindel wrote:I acknowledge this is a rather extraordinary thing to do but this Star Wars game was my very first game here at The Syndicate and my actions in this game have (by some players) been misinterpreted and manipulated to the detriment of performance in games I've played since. I feel it is important then that I be given the opportunity to address this matter so that players in this game understand my side of this story and can make an informed decision on my historical actions.

It has been alleged that I left this game as a direct consequence of my (Mafia) alignment. I reject this assertion totally. I withdrew from this game at the beginning of Day 6 and other than voting for MacDougall, did not post at all from the beginning of that Day phase. What wasn't apparent to the general player population was that I had received a PM from our game Host at the end of Night 5 to the effect:
Epignosis wrote:You have been spit on and afflicted by madness by crumb. You may not mention the madness and you must vote for Mac for the duration of tomorrow. You may also not mention or quote any player that isn't mac or you will die.
At the time of my departure from this game, I was under heavy suspicion from a number of players and together with the responsibility I felt to my team in that game and other external, non-game related matters, I felt (at the time) that this direction placed me in an intolerable position where I could no longer adequately defend myself and I departed from the game immediately after fulfilling the requirements of that Host direction. I accept that my actions in that regard were wrong, it was immature and that it was not responsible. Under the circumstances that prevailed at that time however, fueled by intense frustration, I felt as though I had little option than to do what I did. The TRUTH of this matter IS that I was motivated by frustration and would (regrettably) very likely have left the game at that point IRRESPECTIVE OF MY ALIGNMENT.

Looking back I do regret my actions on that occasion (as described above) and I trust anyone who reads this will not judge me harshly for them.

It's up to you, spirityo.

Only you can control your own destiny. I read that on a bathroom wall once.

I'm not asking who's good. Thank you for giving me a decent reason to think you are bad though.
Do you agree that a LC lynch would be illuminative about Epi's alignment?
No, but an Epi lynch would be illuminative of LC's. As I don't believe LC's interactions with Epi are fair to judge him for, Epi's interactions with LC would be.
I don't think there is any illumination to be had either way. Epi is as much a mystery to me as he is to the rest of you. If he's a Civ cop-type, then he's being blatant and will get killed for it (which is why I don't think he is one). If he's bad, then he's buddying me. If he's Indy... maybe he's eyeing me for Ishmael's team! More excitement!
Why would a baddie buddy up to you? Why would Ishmael buddy up to you if he wanted to covertly recruit you? Why would Ishmael want to covertly recruit you, of all people, in the first place?
A baddie would buddy up to a Civvie in order to make that Civ trust them in a "we are so on the same page, we must both be Civ" kind of way.

Um, the Ishmael thing was not serious, dude. :|
why would a baddie buddy up to a civilian who is taking a bunch of in-thread heat?

I guess to maybe seem blameless once he flips civ?

Heh.

If LC flips bad, people will say Epi is his teammate.

If LC flips civ, people will say Epi just tried to keep his hands blood free in order to get people to listen to him.

He's stuck between a rock and hard place here.

I'm more worried about accuracy than conviction. Completely agree that LC's focus has been on discrediting DDL in general than addressing accusations of noncommitalness/blending, which I think was the most important point brought up. (I do agree with LC on the specifics of the Glor statement. But that goes back to attacking the accuser, not the accusation.)
I just don't understand how a person could, three separate times, twist the truth to make me look worse... and it's completely innocent. Maybe once, it could be a mistake. A misread. But THREE TIMES? That indicates that his primary intention is to make people believe I'm bad, and that he's looking for ways to use thread stuff to push that, accuracy be damned.

He took the fact that I had a weak and noncommittal Day 1, and decided I was a weak member of the pack, and moved to capitalize on that.
Ooh, are we restating cases?

LC had a weak and noncommital D1 and DDL wrote a case against him calling him on it. LC then seized upon "three mistakes" DDL ostensibly made when writing the case that are utterly irrelevant to the actual point of the case itself. LC took these three bloopers, and used them to try and lynch DDL, who was the biggest target going into D2 anyway.

He didn't try to baddie hunt after DDL called him out, choosing to only rant and rave about how obviously bad DDL is, as you can see in the quoted section above.

It ain't genuine, and it ain't baddie hunting.

I'm pestering him for things I think make him mafia.

I also townread DDL and Spirityo, so this is more like the best possible scenario for me, RE: catching a baddie.

would you vote Long Con to save yourself?
in the current situation? no

if it was just the two of us with no chance of anyone else, yes.
what about the situation now?
well we have time, and time will tell who isnt lucky

Epi still hasnt voted correct? and he also thinks LC is town
Y'know how this is going to go, right?

Epi is gonna vote for you to save LC.

You're the only other option.

If you want to stay in this game, you're probably gonna have to vote for LC. Luckily, he's a baddie, so it's a win-win.
