yEs I would move back to Japan

I don't have a top 5 books, but I love the Assassin books by Robin Hobb, Belgariad by David Eddings. A wrinkle in time by L'engle. Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury. Enchantment by orson scott card

I dont know about a controversial opinion tbh. Probably that I support capital punishment

I think the vet I shadowed in middle school had the biggest impact on me. Her and Paula Danziger (children's author who helped me with bullying issues). I turned my life around in the 7th grade. Was having issues evreywhere, battling depression, etc. By 8th grade I was a straight A student and wasnt bullied anymore. Part of it was taking a Johns Hopkins CAA course over the summer. Some of it was my older brother finally moving away.
A Wrinkle in Time was the most impactful book I read as a child, I was mesmerized by it. Imagine my delight when I started work for a company in Tampa where the HR database was named Tesseract! Ray Bradbury was also an important influence.

Thank you for sharing your story about how you turned your life around. So glad the vet and author were there for you and you took the JH CAA course, and got rid of the bro.

>Favorite books:
Honestly, I haven’t been on a reading binge very recently, but my favorite series I’ve been involved with is The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. Epic fantasy, he’s currently on book 4 of 5, 5th will come out in a couple years. Would highly recommend. fantastic world building, and what he lacks in realistic dialogue (I was reading and no lie I was like ‘is this guy Mormon or something? His dialogue is a little stilted when writing romance. Looked it up, he is Mormon. No offense if anyone is Mormon, just made me chuckle). Again, highly recommend.

I remember reading Executive Orders, written in 1998 talking of hijacking planes and an Ebola scare. When I read it, there was that worldwide Ebola scare and I was tripping out. Nice little political drama in the Jack Reacher series I think.

>favorite movies
This is one of those questions that I know the answer to until you ask me.
In no particular order as I remember them:
-Whiplash- EXCELLENT movie
-Ex Machina
-LOTR all of ‘em
-Children of Men
-Ocean’s Eleven
-Being John Malkovich
-That was 8 I’m sorry

>Favorite shows
-Lost
-Survivor
-Dexter (haven’t started the new season)
-I’ve been liking The Boys.
-‘You’ was pretty good in an uncomfortable way
There are a lot of fantasy readers at this site so I'm sure people will like your recommendation in that category. I've read a lot of Jack Reacher novels but had to quit because I just read too many and they all started to sound alike lol!!

Whiplash is on my "must see" list, I don't know why I haven't seen it yet.

I forgot you were a Lost fan!! I wish you'd been on Lostpedia with us, it's where many of us old timers met. And I should have known Survivor duh because of that oh-so-much-fun Survivor Mafia you ran here, one of my favorites of all time. Survivor is a guilty pleasure for me, when I can fit a season in I watch it but don't tell anyone lol!!

Wow thanks juliets!

Not particularly. IRL I’m more self deprecating in public, which seems to brighten up the spirits of those around me. When I was younger I would often go out with my uncle to public places and we’d just feed off of each other and create banter in a running improv skit of sorts, which has helped me in todayland, and has kept me from turning into a frog.

More importantly tho, I’m in the performing arts and I like creating. My mind is always whirring..which is a blessing and a curse. This means I’m never bored because in the downtime I’m always crafting something in my head. But lately I’m also less grounded and up in the clouds in day to day life.

I have several friends that I think of as the funniest people I know. And they never show it, but they’re tormented inside based on BTSC. I think this is overgeneralizing but I feel those that constantly use humor in their everyday life are distracting from deep seated issues they’ve chosen to ignore. I’d like to think I don’t have those sort of issues IRL and have the awareness of not hiding behind the yuckyucks. Online I can have a degree of obscurity so I do tend to have more of a bizarro or biting humor all the time, if that makes sense?
Yes Scotty, that makes a ton of sense. In fact, I have had close relationships with a few people who are incredibly funny, the keep-you-in-tears kind of funny, and brilliant as well and all of them have been deeply tormented inside. It doesn't mean all funny people are tormented of course but I think your observation has merit. And yeah, online obscurity grants a lot of freedom and I'm so happy you use yours to be humorous!!!

- What book has made the biggest impact on you? It can be one you read as a child that really turned you on to reading or one that you read as an adult that made some other impact.
Movies huh... again, best by genre asked, but I'll take a stab from the top of my head.

The Thing 1985
Halloween 1984
Scream 1996
Alien 1979
The Princess Bride 1987

I like Horror, is what you are getting from this. Lol
-------------------------------------
Favourite books

His Dark Materials Trilogy
Kushiel's Dart, and that whole series
The Dark is Rising series
I loved Animorphs as a kid, and they're still very good when I go back and read them now.
Basically everything Christie has ever written ignoring her Marple stories... well most of her Marple stories. But like, Orient Express, And Then There Were None, Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Three Act Tragedy, The Big Four....
Same for Holmes novels. Hounds of the Baskervilles, Study in Scarlet, The Final Problem.... etc
Anything that is Murder Mystery really suits me, honestly.
Catch-22, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World
Frankenstein
Count of Monte Cristo
Wrinkle in Time/Swiftly Tilting Planet etc
Dorian Grey
A bunch of Steven King stuff, but not Dark Tower fuck the Gunslinger series so bad
Neuromancer
Ysabel (and the whole Fionavar Tapestry series but Ysabel was so fucking good)
Black Company
There are more but honestly I could be here and while and I'm not even including series that I read and was like ""this is okay" but not great.
-----------------

What book made the biggest impact on me, huh?

Hard to pick just one....

As a kid, I would say The Subtle Knife (book 2) from His Dark Materials? I remember giving a book presentation on it in 3rd grade 4th grade something like that, because I was so taken in by the story.

Though the Dark is Rising(book 2 in the series) is another one that really got me around the same time. Concepts of fantasy and magic in localized settings, urban/low fantasy still to this day my favourite series (Dresden is fun for this, but not great.) They did shape me as a person, I mean my bed time stories were ones about faeries and not the kind that flew and spread dust, the kind that sewd eyes and mouths shut.

Oh and a Wrinkle in Time was about the same time frame for me. I like, read Animorphs and Goosebumps when I was like 3-6 and then Wrinkle in Time, Dark is Rising and His Dark Materials around 7-10. So yeah that kind of works.

as an adult, lots of books shaped who I am over the years at different times. Ysabel was great, Kushiel's Dart... fantastic....

I dunno, they all kind of shaped how I thought, and my parents loved pouring new books into me to see how I'd react, so it really did shape me.

Let's say for biggest, Kushiel's Dart.
Great list!

The book that stands out to me from my childhood was A Wrinkle in Time, opened up the whole world of science fiction to me. And murder mysteries is also my thing. I took a course in college (a long time ago) in Murder Mystery where we read the classics. I had already read most of Agatha Christie by then and I agree with you on the non-Marple mysteries.

Horror movies aren't my thing but the people in discord are real horror fans.

Thank you for answering!

Also Fayt are you from the USA or another country? If US, what part (if you don't mind revealing)?

Re: Dyslexicon - Interrogation Room

Dizzy! One of my all-time favorite players!

Love your poop emoji in discord but does it always mean you don't like something someone has said?

What has been your favorite game so far on the syndicate?

Do you work or go to school or what when you're not playing mafia?

What is your favorite TV show or do you watch TV?

We all want you as a fellow player in our games. Can you play more with us?

Re: lapluie - Interrogation Room

Hi lapluie! Welcome to The Syndicate!

1. So the underlined below really caught my eye - I loved Italy for exactly the same reason: the art, the museums, the galleries. What was your favorite piece of art and where was it? What city did you like best? Where all did you go?
lapluie wrote: Fri May 25, 2018 1:55 pm
~I am actually from canada, I grew up in the french regions of canada ~ traveled quite a few places, most memorable trip as Italy, I love a lot of art museums & galleries.
2. dunya said in the intro you have good taste in books. What are some of your favorite? Do you like fiction or non-fiction?

3. This isn't a question but you should come to discord. You just jump right in and talk about whatever you want. It's a great way to get to know people on the site. Please join us!

Thanks Aeris, very interesting and I hope you are able to make inroads with respect to reformative justice. If anyone will you will.

Re: Aeris - Interrogation Room

Aeris I'm so impressed with your choice of a career. How and when did you become interested in restorative and reformative justice? And are there certain law schools you are interested in? What are they? Finally, the $64,000 question: when are you going to mafia with us?

gwilikers6 You say you are not using your English degree at work so what do you do for a living? Have you completely given up on teaching? (If not, be sure to talk with Epignosis, he teaches high school English.)

Re: Lunalee - Interrogation Room

Lunalee,

Are you from Alabama? Did you go to college there and if yes, which one (I was born and raised in Huntsville).
Does your family live nearby?
Do you have brothers and sisters?
What church do you go to in Huntsville (I went to First Christian on Whitesburg) or do you go to a church outside of Huntsville?
Do you work at the same place as speed?

I hope you stay and play with us for a long time!

Two of my bestest online friends are from the Netherlands - they are tall (as opposed to Kites friends)
What do you do for a living?
Instead of just listing your favorite movie please your top 5.
What movie that was popular or critically acclaimed did you think was lame?
Are you a better mafia or civilian? Why?
What are your interests outside mafia and movies?
Whats the best thing about being Dutch?

And welcome to the syndicate!
I work in financial services both parttime and as a freelancer. And at the side I'm a writer.

I can go on and on about favorite film lists, here is my top 50 which I compile at the end of each year:
https://rateyourmusic.com/list/Iron_Dwa ... mber-2017/

But for your convenience, the top 5 is:
1. A Woman Under the Influence
2. Eyes Wide Shut
3. Sunrise, A Song of Two Humans
4. Tokyo Story
5. City Lights

Quite a few, but the most recent one is Call Me By Your Name.

Not sure, but I think mafia, because people never really know how to read me. On the other hand, this means I often get read as scum.

Music (I'm from the site rateyourmusic after all), philosophy and Dungeons & Dragons.

The one thing I really like about the Dutch is our directness.
Thank you Iron_Dwarf and I LOVE the Dutch directness too. It took me a bit of getting used to but its my favorite train in my Dutch friends so I like you already!

Not all of us are JJJ, Golden,MP or Sloonei. With that said, if you see all four of them in a game, watch out cause you're gonna want cliff notes.
