I'm a lady that can't resist a sale Dom. I spent everything and maybe had 50 coins left. ;) Having that dagger made me feel like this:

That said, I was shocked, SHOCKED, when you NK'd me, because of all the suspicion on me at the time. I thought for sure it would be a waste to kill me. This was probably my greatest civvie contribution in any game ever and shall never be so good again. Too bad we didn't win, but major congrats to juliets for such an awesome win!!

As for voting, total luck picking MP as top voter to start and from there I blocked FZ first night, no death, and then followed my instincts for the next few votes. Not sure if the blocks made any difference though. Thank you Russti for what was an amazingly awesome and complex game. I have no idea how you stayed on top of half of it.
I carried the kill though. ;) And we killed on even nights, so I don't think your block of FZ stopped anyone from dying. However, I killed you because I knew I would never be able to lynch you. I knew that other people would be far easier to lynch. While you had a decent amount of suspicion, I thought you'd be too hard to take out.

Re: The Hobbit Mafia: Day 12

And I didn't say it before, but I'll say it now:

Thank you so much, Russ, for a wonderful game. I had so much fun playing even though I had no team after day three. I tried so hard to win the game, and I regret that Hedgowl NK more than anything. You put so much work into the game, and I appreciate it so so much. I don't care that I lost, and had very little chance of winning. A good enough game makes up for that!

Juliets, I cannot believe how masterfully you played. Well done! I, when I died (didn't follow much afterwards), thought Epig was Smaug. A hundred congrats are in order on your part. Brava!

I have been meaning to reread him. From memory his posts have struck me as infrequent, but generally reasonable. But I also feel he has been flying below the radar a little bit.
And the time he didn't fly under the radar was when he was insanified. Lol
I was required to post a certain number of times when I was insanified, or else I would be penalized. So yeah, that was the main reason I posted more often then.

Linki: I've seen games before where the posting curse changes slightly every time it's used. So it doesn't surprise me too much that it might have been different for you than Dom and myself.
Oh, okay.
Thanks, that makes a difference because it was a big part of why I suspected you. I was not aware that the powers could change nightly.
Sometimes an insanifier might be able to make up their own curses, etc. :)

I have two things to say:

1) If you don't want someone to "personally insult" you, don't be mean to people. Don't deal what you can't take. Someone said they had a hard time reading the color you were posting in and you mocked them by responding to the complaint in that color. If that is not intentionally off-putting, I don't know what is.
2) You don't even address anything. I am saying that you don't have suspicions, you don't have thoughts, and you just continue to prove my own point.

INH, I am not angry with you. I do not take personal offense in the way you play. I have played this game for five or six years. I have dealt with drama and personal attacks that most could not imagine to happen over an internet game.
It think you are baddie. I think you are hiding behind smoke screens of anger and over defensiveness to hide your intentions.

He is fishy.
That's precisely my point: INH, since the beginning of the game, has had plenty of time to say that everyone suspecting him is wrong. He, however, claims that he doesn't have the time to truly contribute other material. He made a few splashes in the wake of MP/FZ and continued with a few posts on Mongoose. However, other than that, I am unsure of what INH is thinking/doing this game.
thellama73 wrote:
I don't think this is quite accurate. Wile my suspicion of MetalMarsh and you were originally concurrent, they weren't dependent on each other. My second suspicion of you did not come hand in hand with one of MetalMarsh (although I have certainly not ruled him out).

INH's behavior since being accused does not make me feel better about him. I want to say this as delicately as possible, because I don't want to offend anyone and I realize that people have lives, but the "I have real life issues" excuse is starting to wear thin for me. It is too easy of a "get out of jail free" card these days, with every single person brought up for inactivity instantly falling back on it and expecting to get a pass. Some people do have real life issues, but I don't like setting the precedent that baddies can use it without any question at all.

INH seems to have had plenty of time to respond to the accusations against him, but no time to say anything about anyone else. As has been pointed out, his game ended a while ago, so that excuse is gone. The little time he does have has not been used wisely or productively. The indignation and anger seems calculated to get people to back off. I am more distrustful of him by the hour.
Llama, I apologize, that was not the way I meant that post. I believe you brought up metal marsh during the time we all discussed alternatives to the boogs lynch. I meant that MM and I were brought up together and dropped, and both of us have been twice-- so why is it suspicious if t happens to me, but not him? Does that make sense?
I do think that INH's anger/indignation is faked/calculated in order to make people not want to deal with it.

Epig, I have thought about the data you brought up, and I am not sure I think it is relevant to my thoughts of INH. My point is not that he is merely a low poster. My point is that INH is being a low poster when his name isn't being thrown around and suddenly is a high poster with fervor when his name is brought up.

OK, a joke is something I can make on my phone, on the bus, at work. A suspicion is something I can spend hours analyzing and judging. I simply don't have as much time as I would like to do that.
You can't name anyone you're suspicious of without a huge post/analysis?
You can only link to GIFS, write backwards, post extensively in a color reserved for sarcasm in order to mock others?
Metalmarsh89 wrote:
The INH discussion has generated input from several parties. You, llama, and Epi have all made rather simultaneous cases, and even BWT offered a controversial suspicion. I think this is the second time that llama has wanted to vote for you this game, but you've 'changed' his mind. And you're not the only one it has happened to. Does llama always waffle this much? Or is it his poor track record in this game?
What you seem to forget is that Llama's suspicion of me has always been compounded with a suspicion of you (based on MP, if I am not mistaken). He has dropped it twice. Therefore he has dropped BOTH of us twice. In addition, I do not think this is indicative of a baddie Llama. I think we are seeing a civvie llama who is unsure of his actions.

However, your post is unsettling to me, tbh. Why are you prodding ME on what LLAMA has done?

You deliberately do things that you know piss people off; you are purposefully avoiding actual discussion by being unnecessarily hostile, evasive, and off-putting.

Snow Dog, you don't find it strange that INH always has the time to address the points made against him, to overreact, to yell bloody murder that he's being ganged up on... but he never seems to have the time to post other things of value? When he isn't being discussed he goes right back to jokes and lolz. He doesn't contribute.
He says he does, but a Nikki Minaj GIF and a vague post about who you agree with/voting for yourself in a baddie lynch is not exactly what I would call contribution.

I usually post and vote in a thread a few hours before the poll ends. See any game I have ever played for proof. So, me checking in on the thread before a lynch, seeing that people have suspicions of me, and then responding to those suspicions, is suspicious to you?
You checked in last night too, but never posted. ;) There were people talking about you too, primarily llama and Dom.

INH, you have offered zero thoughts since you were discussed. You have consistently gotten by on the fact that you don't say anything of importance.
In addition, your post on Epig caught my eye because NO ONE had jumped onto a case about Epig. It wasn't gaining much traction. That wasn't how you were treating it at all.

Furthermore, "I WAS HOTSING A GAMEMMEEEE THOOO"
Okay.
Fine.
Yes.
I know.
I talked about that.
Why haven't you been posting since about Day 7? Why do you refuse to participate when your name isn't being brought up? Why do you seem to be looking for the easy way out of everything in this game?

Why do you treat every point against you like an unfair attack? Why do you act like people are ganging up on you when they aren't? Why do you act as if the points against you are moot rather than addressing them?

Snow Dog, I would still like to know who the shady people actually were. To me, it seems you used that language as rhetoric. You have also yet to have a suspicion since your non-lynch, nor did you really have one during your non-lynch.
I don't think you are paying attention to my posts. I said it was just a comeback about shady people amongst the boogs voters. As a boogs voter myself i just said it back about the AP voters with no one in mind in particular.

@ BWT I had an early feeling about INH and I might go with that. Prrobably will hold off to try and save myself it if comes to it.
No, I am reading your posts, but I am asking you to confirm that it was rhetoric to sway people from voting AP and into voting Boogs.
Because a "comeback" with "no one in particular in mind" would qualify as just that. You also conveniently are returning to a suspicion that I just outlined the hell out of.

Snow Dog probably thinks he's off the hook. And I've noticed here on this site that sometimes players don't post much if they don't have to defend themselves.
That's why it is good to make cases that people have to defend against, like I did with Dom, and like you refused to do with Epig.

Dom. Who has missed four. (although he was temporarily dead for one of those.) What follows is a summary of Dom's contributions since his resurrection.

Dom wrote:Epig, are you more suspicious of TH or Snow Dog? I think you answered this, but I feel like it got lost.
Dom wrote: Why Llama?

What do you think of INH, Epig?
Dom wrote:K4J, who do you think should go?
Dom wrote:So, K4J, which would you advocate?
He sure is interested in soliciting opinions. Much less interested in contributing original thoughts.

I am also suspicious of him for defending me so vocally from Epig's assault. It's the exact same thing MP did. Buddy-buddy-llama. Why should that be? I have a terrible record this game. Why would anyone go out of their way to defend me unless they knew I was civ and wanted to earn my trust? I am returing to my original suspicion of you, Dom.

:eye:
I'm sorry you feel that way, and this indicates the reason why I was defending you was wrong. I will explain the things you bring up, if you'll listen.
Llama, I thought you to be a certain role based on something that happened to me right around the time we lynched vompatti. Clearly, since you are perturbed by my assumption, I was wrong-- which is certainly interesting to me. It certainly does not make you bad, but it does make me wrong about your role.
However, my less than vocal appearances in the thread have reasons behind them that are multi-faceted. However, there are two large influencers in this silence: choice and time. Let me speak to both.
Time-- before my trip this weekend, I had an incredibly busy week at work. I had very little time or energy to be an active participant in games. I also was spending time with family. That is a shitty excuse, but it is a fact. Since Friday, I have also been in NYC. I drove to my friend's house and then took a drive to the city on Friday. I spent the entire day in the city on Saturday. Today? I drove home.
More importantly, choice:
I have not enjoyed reading a lot of the responses from some players. I have found many players to be rude, harsh... downright mean. I even spoke to our lovely mod about it because I needed a sounding board-- just someone to listen to me. I have grown increasingly frustrated with the thread. I am thoroughly enjoying this GAME, but not so much some of the posts by a few players. I believe Russti has crafted a wonderful game that has been dampened (and continues to be dampened) by people being, to be frank, inappropriate. It has, honestly, made me not want to post. Add that to a lack of time and energy, and it leads to me being less active than before.

In addiiton, Mr. Llama, I would like to point out that all of those posts you pointed out were questions. That is a very common posting method I use. Especially when I am afraid of night kills, I will post in questions in order to play my cards close to my chest. I understand the connection you are trying to draw here, but you're simply wrong. I don't know the answer to this question, but do my periods of inactivity match with the missing kills from the Moria team? Is that the correlation you're trying to draw?
I also refute that that has been my entire contribution. I definitely feel like I discussed Snow Dog a bit as well.
I have not seen anything that would indicate to me that you are bad. I will continue to not think you are bad, but with much less fervor than before. I obviously misinterpreted something that happened. I apologize.

Indeed. This is why we get bandwagons, and why, as you pointed out, the first person to vote has an outside influence. It is indeed unfortunate.

I've tried to do a lot of vote analysis (and have maintained a careful spreadsheet to aid in doing so) but as we know, I have been just as ineffectual as the people who just show up and pile on. I am second guessing myself a lot. I am now worried that my original suspicions of Dom and MetalMarsh might have been right and that they are laughing at me in their btsc, but I just don't know.

I will also give K4J another reread before voting. I'm not eager to start another bandwagon for others to pile onto.[/quote]
Llama, how are me AND metal marsh on the same team according to your logic?
I'm intrigued.

I find the case on K4J to be strong, but I find his defense to be sincere. That's clashing to me. Maybe it's because I do not like the tactics being used against him. Maybe it's because I feel like he is being bullied to an extent, I don't know. I find K4J's response to be enough to give me pause.

However, there are two people that I am wondering about more than K4J. They are insertnamehere and Snow Dog. I am not sure that just because Turnip Head was bad that means that Snow Dog is good.

In addition, I feel that INH has created this false equivalency between the case on him and the case on Boogs. INH instantly flew off the handle for being "hounded". However, the facts are not on his side. INH has not received nearly as many votes, he has not been discussed nearly as much, there has not been nearly as much attention, and his name has been brought up while he falls to the shadows. I am, of course, referring to this post.
Llama, his participation has also dropped off significantly. INH has not posted a remotely on topic response since Day 7 (when Boogs has brought him up and he made that erroneous post I talked about). He also grossly exaggerated a 'case' on Epig here. I found that to be fear mongering.
Before his name was thrown back into the ring on Day 6/7? Before the Mongoose lynch on Day 5?
INH had a habit of not posting anything of importance at all:

http://mafiathesyndicate.com/viewtopic. ... 823#p68823
http://mafiathesyndicate.com/viewtopic. ... 655#p68655
Those are all of his posts between his first burst of activity (where he created that spreadsheet) and the second burst (where he said he wasn't bad, and said he was being ganged up on for being talked about at all).
You'll notice the only thing of any, remote import is that he trusts Epig.
He also voted HIMSELF during the TH lynch.

I've been asked before why Mafia win so often here at The Syndicate. Sometimes it's overpowered Mafia, but the more I play, the more I realize it's because civilians adopt the mindset that "as long as I'm not lynched, it's cool." And then these players just show up at the end of the phase, many of them having not studied- yes studied the nuances of the arguments, that they are ineffectual players.

Does anybody else have anything to say?

My theory of k4j was primarily predicated on TH's behavior, not k4j's. He gunned for him as TH1 but said nothing about him TH2.
That's not why I give it the evil eye.

DON'T DO IT!!!
Bump.

Guys, (and by "guys", I mean everyone, so no, I'm not trying to single anybody out) I have some growing concerns about the tone the game is taking. Maybe I'm partly to blame: I just realized "respect each other" is not in the rules anywhere. Major oversight on my part, which is being corrected now. I also think my host posts could be contributing: I meant to keep a more Hobbit-like, kid-friendly tone from the beginning, but I've found that mafia lends itself to dark writing, with all the killing and such.

That said, in my experience, you're all very smart and generally kind people. You sometimes read the room wrong, but generally, you know when something you're thinking of typing is likely to offend someone. If you think that's the case, do not type it. That simple. Talk to S~V~S, or take a break, or find a way to say what you mean without making it personal to the player, just to the role you believe they are.

I know S~V~S has been handling a lot of issues behind the scenes, and doing a hell of a job at it, though in most cases I do not know specifics. She's the Mod and that's her job, but it's best if we don't make her work too hard at it. And too much of this stuff is obvious enough that it's bothering me as well.

You'll notice "respect each other" is listed under the rule violations that merit the death penalty. It will stay that way the rest of the game, and I will consider drastic action against any player who breaks it from here on out.

This is all being said partly for my own sake, partly for the sake of people trying to enjoy the game, and partly for the long-term health of are community. If you are a jerk to someone here, whether they're new or have been around a while, it ruins the game for them. (And, in my experience, it makes it less fun for the one being the jerk too - yes, I have been on occasion, though I'm not proud of it.) If people aren't having fun, they won't keep playing, and filling up huge, awesome games like this will be impossible. I worked really hard trying to get 31 players for this, and I didn't even actually succeed -- and it was one of the most anticipated games of the year. Put bluntly, if we want to keep mafia-ing, we have to keep people around. To do that, we have to make sure they're having fun, and being respectful is one of the most important ways to do that.

Asshattery of any type, by anyone, will not be tolerated in my game any longer. This is your final warning.
