I really enjoy this community, y'all are great and I'm sorry I have to go absent so soon.
I thank you, Sloonei. :) My other game will be playing at least after that, so I hope to see you then! Can't wait to actually play with you, as you were a joy to host.

This was easily the hardest question. I ended up accepting two answers here. My intended answer was Merrily We Roll Along (if you view Frank has the current president for whatever year the show is currently in, it's quite interesting). Foreign Policy might have been a bit too restrictive of wording, but the show constantly reminds you of Vietnam, Cuba, and Kennedy.
Rob linked me to a scholarly article about The Frogs being an allegory for US foreign policy, so I allowed it.
I was so sure it was Pacific Overtures that I didn't even consider changing that answer. :keys:
Pacific Overtures takes place in the 1800s. :p
Yeah, but I assumed it was also meant to thematically evoke East-West relations since then with the whole American imperialism thing, which is still an issue.
Not the answer I was looking for, but that's kind of true. :)

You can say that again. If there's one thing I can't understand it's why I didn't kill Golden several times over in this game. :p

And I was right, I tried to kill SVS because I thought she was the last Wildhorn. I just didn't expect her to have a protect, without that Team Weber could have won.

Dom, will you post a list of the correct answers to the trivia? I want to know which one I missed. :noble:
#1) How many Tony Awards has Bernadette Peters won?
Two. I accepted Three if people counted her lifetime achievement award.
#2) How many Broadway shows did Hal Prince and Stephen Sondheim work on (produce) together before 1985?
Five.
#3) In which year did the first Tonys take place?
1947
#4) Who was the first actor to win a Tony Award for each acting category of their respective gender?
Audra Mcdonald
#5) Who has the most Tony Awards?
Hal Prince
#6) Stephen Sondheim writes politically. Which of his musicals is often looked at as a mirroring of American Foreign policy in the post-war era?

#7) Which musical did Sondheim write first? A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum or Saturday Night?
#8) What rhymes with subtler? (This might be tricky)
Butler. From the lyric in Sweeney Todd
#9) How many Tony Awards does Stephen Sondheim have?
Eight. I accepted variants based on if you counted his lifetime achievement awards.
#10) How many Tony Awards did The Bridges of Madison County win in 2014?
Two.

Golden wrote:What I want to know is how all the survivals came about?
Scotty was pretty spot on with his protects. Timmer also blocked the killers pretty often.
Metalmarsh89 wrote:
Golden wrote:And....

Who was responsible for the attemp on scotty on night 8... was it team wildhorn all along? MM was so obsessed with an unknown force, but I think it was just wildhorn.
I went to the trouble of researching the different musicals to see who was killing who. I just wanted to be right. :pout:

One thing that no one else noticed that I did. Starlight Express nightkilled on Night 3 even though Starlight Express (sig) was lynched Day 3. My reasoning wasn't perfect, but that was still more consistent than the Night 8 kill.
Night 8 was Wildhorn.
Scotty wrote:Argh. What an agonizing loss. This game pulled at my heart strings. I have the answers to trivia on a doc at home because I love this shit.

I love musical theater, which is most of the reason I even came here. So it pains me that I died right before trivia, where I would have won something most likely. Ah well.

I think I matured in my mafia-life a lot through this game. Thank you Dom for hosting- I had a blast.
Golden wrote:I don't know why I survived the night 2 attempted kill. But I'm glad I did.
You're welcome.

I also saved Sloonei Day 3. And then, I got really pissed off because I started saving people in the order they were killed, but the day before they were killed. And I couldn't save the same person in a row.

Here's my save list:
N1- no one
N2- Golden (saved)
N3- Sloonei (saved)
N4- Golden
N5- Sloonei (It was 50/50 with FZ. FZ dies)
N6- timmer (wanted Sloonei, but can't protect 2 in a row, Sloonei dies)
N7- Golden (wanted timmer, but can't protect 2 in a tow, timmer dies)
N8- JJJ (my first pass)
N9- Epi (I dead)

Golden had me fooled. Thought he was civ early game for sure. Got me really curious why no one was killing him as we went on after Day 7 though.

The 2 times Dom had to correct a mistake and make people miraculously come back to life? He forgot about my save n2 on Golden, and forgot about my ability to survive a lynch on n9.

I thought I was doing a great doctor role early game, and then backed up and screwed it up after night 4.

Btw @Dom, why did no one kill on n4?
I effed up. The kill would have failed, so I wrote it into N5's post.

Re: [ENDGAME] Bullets Over Broadway Mafia

Role List:

Sondheim vs. Lloyd Weber Mafia
Hosted by: Dom
Total Roles: 28

Sondheim and Brown – The Civilians (17 Roles)
Stephen Sondheim – Composer and lyricist, an actor favorite. Sondheim is the king of Broadway. His shows are masterpieces. Sondheim writes a song for every night post. These songs come from love, because if they don’t, there’s no point.
West Side Story – There’s a place for us, somewhere a place for us. Star-crossed lovers, and all that. West Side Story can implement a time of peace, where no death will take place for one full phase. This will not be announced to the thread. However, upon the violence resuming, a massacre occurs. One random player will die, however West Side Story can select 5 players to protect from this.
Gypsy – Everything’s coming up Roses. Mama Rose is a dominant woman who may or may not have destroyed her children, who knows? Gypsy can stop one lynch.
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum – Tragedy tomorrow, Comedy tonight! Sondheim’s first solo venture received rave reviews. Targets one player each night who will be insanified using a device at the choosing of the owner of this role.
Company – Somebody hold me too close, Somebody hurt me too deep. Bobby has commitment issues. On night 3, Company can establish anonymous BTSC with a player of their choosing.
A Little Night Music – And I shall marry the miller’s son. Don’t you dare mention Send In the Clowns. Aristocrats get privileges—will survive the first attempt on their life. Additionally can protect one player each night. Cannot protect themselves.
Merrily We Roll Along – We’re opening doors! Sondheim’s flop, but one of my favorite musicals of all time, Merrily We Roll Along is about friendships that disintegrate—targets one player every night, if they have BTSC it will be disbanded for the next day period.
Anyone Can Whistle – Everybody says don’t, everybody says don’t, everybody says don’t walk on the grass. Anyone Can Whistle has its obvious political commentaries. Did not do very well commercially, but is considered a classic Sondheim piece in terms of its musical stylings. Vote is worth 2.
Sweeney Todd – It’s priest. Try a little priest. Have you seen Cannibalism THE MUSICAL, yet? You should. Sweeney Todd has one night kill to use throughout the entire game.
Sunday In the Park With George – Bit by bit, putting it together! One of a select few musicals with a Pulitzer Prize, Sunday in the Park With George is considered one of Sondheim’s greatest works. Sunday in the Park With George can read Marie’s diary every even night, providing him with the role of a player who has passed.
Into The Woods – Into the Woods to get the thing that makes it worth the journeying. A musical about consequences, responsibility, adulthood, and the human condition, this show may be my favorite Sondheim piece. Into the Woods will break any tie that may exist in a lynch poll. Upon this role’s death, all ties will result in a no-lynch. Into the Woods also may pardon one lynch.
Evening Primrose – I remember sky. Sondheim’s television musical, Evening Primrose is an oft overlooked piece. Evening Primrose can make 1 person’s vote worth 0 in the next day.
Jason Robert Brown – Jason Robert Brown is a contemporary analogue of Stephen Sondheim. Musical and lyrical genius, his scores sway Tony voters consistently. Jason Robert Brown can target one person each night and redirect their target to another player.
Songs for a New World – Jenny’s afraid of water, I mean she swims and all, but still: she’s afraid of water. A song cycle about so much more than what you’d think. Songs for a New World can stop time. Upon their death, there will be a second day. If they are night killed, there will be two days in a row. If they are lynched, two nights will follow.
Parade – Well, hey, sunshine! Sunshine? Looks like rain to me. A tragic story of injustice, Parade will definitely make you cry. Because of the injustice it has already suffered, Parade can switch one lynch to a player of their choosing.
The Last Five Years – I stand on a precipice, I struggle to keep my balance, I open myself, I open myself one stitch at a time. What might be my favorite musical, The Last Five Years is Divorce! The Musical! The Last Five Years can break a person’s heart each night, thus blocking them.
The Bridges of Madison County – And love is always better. A steamy, four day love affair about a woman’s agency. Due to the affair’s secret nature, it must be kept quiet. Secrets are essential-- they get a snippet of BTSC each night.
Lloyd Weber – Baddie Team 1 (4 Roles)
Andrew Lloyd Weber – A true monster. A true, true monster. Andrew is nothing short of despicable and is only capable of creating mediocre art during his early period. Later, his ‘art’ turned to utter garbage. Sir Andrew kills on odd nights.
The Phantom of the Opera – The Phantom of the Opera is there, inside my mind. Sir Andrew’s Magnus Opus, the Phantom kidnaps a player each night and silences them. It’s unbreakable run also makes it immune from night powers.
Starlight Express – Starlight express, answer me yes. This has to be one of the stupidest musicals ever conceived. Starlight Express is so bad that it blocks one player each night.
Cats – Memory, all alone in the moonlight. Also known as one of the single most overrated musicals in the music-theatre-canon, Cats was on Broadway for a long time and for some reason is being revived in London. Cats can suffer in its own memory and role check a dead player every night.
Wildhorn – Baddie Team 2 (3 Roles)
Frank Wildhorn – A mediocre composer at best, Frank has been ostracized in the community because he’s kind of, reportedly, rude. Frank kills on even nights. On odd nights, Frank targets a player-- something might happen.
Wildhorn can corrupt one of Sondheim’s flops (Anyone Can Whistle, Merrily We Roll Along, or Evening Primrose.

Jekyll & Hyde – If I could reach you, if I could guide and teach you. It’s the classic tale—musicalized! Targets one player a night who must attempt to lynch another player. If that player is not lynched in three days, the targeted player will receive one extra vote in every lynch against them. Will show up as civilian upon lynching.
Bonnie and Clyde – I’d rather breathe in life than dusty air. Should it have run longer? Probably. Is it as good as people want it to be? Not particularly. Bonnie and Clyde protects one player each night phase. Bonnie and Clyde can also complete ‘jobs’ on odd nights, which will allow them to 1) role check a player and 2) use their power the following night, if applicable. Because of their ability to run from the police, B&C also can stop one lynch.
Independents (2 Roles)
Andrew Lippa – And we were having a wild, wild party! Andrew Lippa probably needs a lyricist, thus, he searches for someone every night. Lippa searches for the lyricists (Sondheim, Brown, Schwartz, and Hammerstein) and if he finds ¾ before he dies, he only has to survive to the end to win.
Stephen Schwartz – I’ve gotta be someone who lives all of his life in superlatives. Schwartz writes some interesting material. He eavesdrops on his neighbors to see what they are saying and receives a snippet of BTSC every night. Wins if he is alive at the end of the game.
Serial Killers (2 Roles)
Oscar Hammerstein II – Some enchanted evening, you may find a stranger.. Looks for his longtime partner, Richard Rodgers each night. If they find each other, they gain BTSC, kill even nights, can win together, and have one lynch save.
Richard Rodgers – If I loved you, time and again I would try to say all I’d want you to know. Looks for his longtime partner, Oscar Hammerstein II each night. If they find each other, they gain BTSC, kill even nights, can win together, and have one lynch save.

Act Two, Scene One
ENTER SINGER AND METALMARSH, ROLLING ON STAGE KISSING

THE SINGER GETS UP AND SPOT ON HER.

SINGER: I shall vote out Team Wildhorn
Pin my vote on a nice piece of mafia
Days and nights we’ve been feeling worn
We'll go lynching, meanwhile

It's a thought and a vote and a hanging from the sky
And I'll tie the rope from the rafters, a hunch and a feeling
In the sealing of a trickster’s fate

It's a very short road from the kills and the death
To the case and the lynch and the civ win
It's a very short road ‘til we can take a breath
And relief and reveals and the sigh

In the meanwhile there are baddies to be lynched
Before civs to accuse and a lot in between
In the meanwhile
And a civ ought to concentrate on who lies and lies.

EXIT SINGER

METALMARSH: What was that?

ENTER BONNIE AND CLYDE
B/C: Bang Bang! You're dead.

Metalmarsh dies from gunshot wounds.

EXIT.

Re: [Day 14] Bullets Over Broadway Mafia

Act One, Scene Fourteen
ENTER SINGER

SINGER:Bit by bit, getting it together
Case by case, only way to make a working lynch
Every civvie makes a contribution
Every little suspect, make it clinch
Having tunnel vision's no solution
All our lives depend on execution
Putting it together (That's what wins)

Vote by vote, getting it together
Quotations, adding up to make a perfect case.
First of all you need a good foundation
Otherwise it's risky in this race
Takes a lot of earnest conversation
But without the proper preparation
Having tunnel vision's no solution
All our lives depend on execution
The art of lynching baddies, is getting it together
Bit by bit

Lynching isn't easy
Every minor detail
Is a major decision
Have to keep votes in check
Have to check on your suspicion

Even though we're feeling apprehensive
That we're looking blind and quite defensive
And you wish civs’ thoughts were more extensive
Don't forget that we’re all being pensive

Bit by bit, getting it together
Case by case, working out decisions Night and Days
What it takes is time and perseverance
Dealing with behavior along the way
Dealing with the baddies’ interference
Working through all the aggravation
Hoping for an endgame ovation
The art of lynching baddies is getting it together
Bit by bit
Case by case
Fight by fight
Standing side by side by side by side by side by side.
And that is the state of the lynch!

EXIT

ENTER SVS

SVS: Art is dead, isn't it?

SHE EXITS AS A CHANDELIER FALLS FROM THE CIELING, MISSING HER.

Re: [Day 12] Bullets Over Broadway Mafia

Act One, Scene Thirteen
ENTER JAGGEDJIMMYJAY. HE SITS ON THE APRON CS.

A CAR FLIES FROM ABOVE AND SMASHES HIM INTO BITS.

AN APARTMENT SET DROPS DOWN FROM ABOVE. TWO SEPARATE APARTMENTS. ENTER SINGERS 1 AND 2 INTO APARTMENT 1 AND SINGER 3 INTO APARTMENT 2.

SINGER 1: How's it going?
SINGER 2: Bad. You?
SINGER 1: Not so great.
SINGER 2: Yeah, tell me.
SINGER 1: (answering phone) Bullets Over Broadway.
SINGER 3: (into phone) I think I found a baddie.
SINGER 1: Where?
SINGER 3: In the mafia.

ALL: We'll all vote together someday!
We're hanging up civs, singing, "They're so bad!"
We're losin' 'em days and it's a crime.
That faraway win could be not too far.
We're following every suspect —
There's not enough time!

SINGER 1: I voted for Neverwhere.
SINGER 2: I voted for Neverwhere.
SINGER 3: I voted for Neverwhere.
SINGER 1: We can’t ALL vote for Neverwhere!

ALL: We're hanging up civs, singing, "Crap, we’re wrong!"
Beginning to fail all the time.
That faraway win's not getting very near!
We haven't a thing to fear, we haven't got time!

They're murdering civs, laughing, "Got ‘em now!"
It's less of a sail than a climb.
That faraway win's farther every day.
We're going to vote today
We still have a lot to say!

SINGER 1: You know what we'll do?
SINGER 2: What?
SINGER 1: We'll do a review.
SINGER 3: What?
SINGER 1: We'll do a review of all the baddies!
SINGER 2: What? How?
SINGER 1: Not just who everyone goes for, but something to make them panic. Someone they’re hesitant to vote for.
SINGER 2: We do have changeable votes. We can gauge reactions!
SINGER 3: Yeah!

ALL
We'll worry about it on Day 13!

We'll be voting baddies, singing, "Here we are!"
We'll fill up days without a crime.
That faraway win's looking not too far.
We're following every suspect —
But there's not enough time!

We're hanging up baddies, shouting, "Gotcha now!"
We're risking it all in the grime.
That faraway win's looking near again,
The only thing left is when,
We know we should count to ten —
We haven't got time!
We haven't got time!

ALL EXIT.

Re: [Day 11] Bullets Over Broadway Mafia

Act One, Scene Twelve

EPIG ENTERS FROM THE HOUSE AND SITS IN AN EMPTY SEAT IN THE FRONT ROW.

ENTER SINGER CS.

SINGER:
Sloonei's afraid of water
I mean he tunnels well, but still
He's afraid of water
And so he won't go near the sea
Not me.

MM's afraid of Daisy
I mean he’s spaced and all, but still
He's afraid of Daisy
So when the lights are out he has to vote her out
I have no doubt.

I'm not afraid of mafia
Be they splintsy, Daisy, silence, or corruption
I'm not afraid of indies
Tell me, where's the challenge if you never try?
So watch me fly
I'm not afraid

And I feel the calling of a lynching
And I see the hanging in my eye
The lights are glaring
Civvies blaring
I'm right here
And I hear the calling of tomorrow
And I feel the stirring in my bones
And someone trusts me
He's afraid to show me

Listen to the calling of accusation
Can you hear the plea in what I wrote?
The ropes are ready
Gallows are steady
I can vote.

Never stop the lynching of a baddie
Blessing on the gallows and the ropes
And someone loves me
He's afraid to show me
Someone loves me
He's afraid to show me
They’re afraid to trust me
And they'll always be
They’re afraid of me

But I'm not afraid of anyone
I am sure to win with civvies as my guide
I'm not afraid of anyone
Not a baddie alive can get me on their side
So let them call
And watch them fall
‘Cause after all

Re: [Day 11] Bullets Over Broadway Mafia

Act One, Scene Eleven
ENTER SINGER
SINGER: Everybody says vote
Everybody says vote
Everybody says vote when it isn't right
Vote, but it isn't nice

Everybody says vote
Everybody says vote
Everybody says vote the obvious
Don't disturb the peace, don't skate on the ice

Well I say vote, I say
Vote for the ladies, they are meant to hang
I say vote. Tilt towards the ladies
And when you’re right you’ll sing

Everybody says rezz
Everybody says rezz
Everybody says resurrect a civ
When they say that, then civvies, that's a sign

Right at this moment
Civvies, we aren’t doing so fine
Make just a rezzie, you say, be brave
This time a Scotty, next time Sloonei.

Sometimes you have to give chase
Making the tiniest case
Maybe you're going to fall
But it's better than not suspecting at all

Everybody says can't fight the mafia
Can't upset the civs
Can't laugh at the baddies
Well I say, try!

I say
Laugh at the baddies or they'll make you cry
Lose your credit
Fall if you have to, but civvies, make a noise

Yes
Everybody says don't
Everybody says can't
Everybody says wait around for rezzies

That's the way the game is played
But I insist on cases if you do them
Rezzies might come true
But I say don't
Don't be afraid!

EXIT SINGER
ENTER CANUCK. SHE SITS CS. ENTER HOODED FIGURE. CANUCK HIDES FROM HOODED FIGURE.

HOODED FIGURE TOUCHES THE GROUND, TRAP DOOR OPENS, AND SLOONEI RISES.

BOTH EXIT.

Trivia
The first few (intentionally ambiguous) people to submit the correct answers to ALL of the following questions will win a prize... they're worth it.

#1) How many Tony Awards has Bernadette Peters won?
#2) How many Broadway shows did Hal Prince and Stephen Sondheim work on (produce) together before 1985?
#3) In which year did the first Tonys take place?
#4) Who was the first actor to win a Tony Award for each acting category of their respective gender?
#5) Who has the most Tony Awards?
#6) Stephen Sondheim writes politically. Which of his musicals is often looked at as a mirroring of American Foreign policy in the post-war era?
#7) Which musical did Sondheim write first? A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum or Saturday Night?
#8) What rhymes with subtler? (This might be tricky)
#9) How many Tony Awards does Stephen Sondheim have?
#10) How many Tony Awards did The Bridges of Madison County win in 2014?

Someone to clear the air,
To ruin their sleep.

I’m someone you need so much.
Someone you know too well.
Someone to call you out,
And take you outta hell,

I’m someone you have to believe,
Someone who can stay alive,
Someone who, like it or not,
Really wants to survive
A little, a lot.

I’m someone that crowds you with doubts.
Someone to force you to feel.
Someone to make you think votes through,
Who's always been here,
As frightened as you,
Of being lynched,
Being lynched.
Being lynched.
Being lynched!

Civvies, keep me real close.
Civvies, hurt baddies deep.
Civvies, clear the air,
And ruin their sleep,
And make them aware
That you’re still alive.
Keep me alive.

Civvies need me too much.
Baddies know me too well.
Both of them pull me up short,
And put me through hell,
And give me support,
For being alive.
Keep me alive.
Keep me alive.

You make me confused.
You mock me with cases.
Don’t let me be used.
Keep me for days.

I’m alone,
And alone,
Is not alive.

Somebody crowd me with trust.
Somebody force civs to care.
Somebody let me come through,

To help civs survive,
Staying alive.
