Re: TSARS [Week 1 - "Beneath the Brine"]
I agree completely with this. Obviously we are all different people here with I'm sure extremely varied musical tastes. I think it's best to be honest with each other but also open-minded.Golden wrote:Hey, this is the place for analysis. It's ok not to like things (some of you aren't going to like my tastes, and I'm not sure I'm going to like some of yours). But, I think the idea is to put your finger on why.

Yes, that's right. Still not a problem I think.
I forgot for a minute there that we were taking a week to listen to each album.

Re: TSARS [Week 1 - "Beneath the Brine"]
This is an understandable and agreeable perspective.G-Man wrote:See I like the idea of having the folks behind our first batch not submitting for the next poll. Those left in the mix could change their offerings or keep them the same. Yeah, it creates a queue-like system but it also helps ensure that each of us gets to share. Otherwise it might become a case of trying to cater to what we think peope might want to listen to rather than offering up something we'd like you to try out, for better or for worse. It won't take long to lose interest if your options continually get passed over.Golden wrote:It's probably a bad idea. I just meant that people who get selected one week take a week off from nominating, so they aren't on the poll next week. Would mean the same five people don't get picked week after week.MovingPictures07 wrote:I must be being dense right now; what is meant by a "one poll stand down after your album is selected"?Golden wrote:A one poll stand down after your album is selected? Simply put: If I'm going to listen to your weird music, I want you to eventually listen to my weird music.
As someone whose album got picked this first week, I personally wouldn't mind having to wait until Week 3 to submit a new one. Waiting just one week isn't bothersome or anything.

Sweet, looking forward to hearing it!nutella wrote:Sweet! I'm excited that you all get to hear what has been my favorite band for the past year If this strikes your fancy I also heartily recommend their other album The Village as well as their two EPs. I love every bit of music they've ever made all of it is amazing and I never get tired of it I'm obsessed and should shut up now and let you form your own opinions
PSA for anyone using youtube, the video linked is missing the last track which you can find here. Also, the times listed for the tracks in the description are messed up, but there's a comment with the correct ones.
Can't say I'm a fan of "SARS" either lol. What about "Album Sharing Shenanigans" or ASS for short?
And thanks for the info, since I'm a loser who doesn't have a subscription to Spotify (yet) and will be using Youtube.

Another random suggestion (sorry for trying to assert dominance over the thread):JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Week 1: The Family Crest - Beneath the BrineSubmitted by nutellaAccessible on Spotify and via the link in the OP
Perhaps this information / the album cover could be in the OP each week as well, that way it's easily identifiable what album/artist we're listening to? Plus album covers are cool, and it'd be neat to have that in the OP.

I don't really care, I just find it simultaneously weird and amusing.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:It makes me chuckle because I'm 8 years old. Different ideas are welcome.
You could just add a "The", for "The Syndicate", thus making it TSARS.

Re: Syndicate Album Ranking and Sharing [First Poll]
Yeah, I'd be alright with a coin flip too; though it's not ideal, I'm not sure what a better alternative would be.Golden wrote:I'm fine with a coin flip, even if it goes against my submission. The thing will still be there next time.JaggedJimmyJay wrote:I guess if there's a tie I'll just include everything within the tie. That might look shady since my submission is currently tied for 5th, but a coin flip wouldn't really be fair (this ain't no lynch). So whatever.
A question - what to do with the submissions that aren't in the top 5? Just roll them over to the next poll? Does that mean people who are successful get to nominate another, the others don't?

Re: Syndicate Album Ranking and Sharing [First Poll]
You should be able to edit the wording of an option in the poll as long as you don't add or subtract any options without resetting the votes.

Re: New activity maybe
That would be cool in theory, but yeah, I think it would clutter the forum up pretty quickly, especially if we keep this thing going for a while (and I'd really like that personally).JaggedJimmyJay wrote:Works for me. I was considering a separate thread for each album, but that wouldn't take long to become spam city.MovingPictures07 wrote:Sounds good. Let me get the details for Fishmans for you too.
Should we just keep the discussion / poll in this thread and change the thread title?
Alternatively you could come up with a generic title for the thread at large, but then always edit in [WEEK 1] and/or a brief abbreviation of the band and album in the title, like we do with mafia games ala [DAY 1] and such.

Seriously?!? Man, if true, that's super awesome; wish I knew about that previously!nutella wrote:I'm fine with just going through all the nominations as a queue, or voting for order or whatever.
Also, I do recommend Spotify, but ads are very annoying for listening through albums, so if you're ok with paying a subscription it's worth it for that reason. I've also heard (though haven't personally confirmed) that if you use the web player with adblock enabled it skips the ads, so that might be a good option.

This sounds good to me.thellama73 wrote:I don't have a problem with a poll, but it should not last longer than a day to keep things moving. I don't object to weekly listens, because people are busy. Mayb poll goes up on Monday, listening begins on Tuesday, discussion and Wrap-up on Friday, weekends off.
But it's up to you all, I'm flexible. I have time to listen to tons of music currently, so I can do this or a more quickly paced version.

Re: New activity maybe
I have to listen to an album in one sitting and in order; I'm one of those weirdos that views the album as the ultimate vehicle by which to deliver music. But that's alright with me, depends on what everyone else thinks.G-Man wrote:What would the verdict be on finding an incomplete playlist on YouTube and then linking to a separate video of the missing song if that missing song belongs in the middle of the playlist? Are we trying to listen to the album in song list order? If so, the idea I have in mind would require listening to five songs, pausing the playlist, listening to an individual video, then resuming the playlist. I have a back-up album in mind but it's not quite as good as my preferred choice. I don't want to create too much work for people.
The album I recommended is not standard either in that it's live and just over two hours long, but I couldn't not recommend it. I still think that's doable for a week, but by all means, I can pick a different one if you all think that's too much. I think we can get into specific grievances or preferences when it comes time to vote though, right? Maybe Jay can advise there as to what he was envisioning.
