Really the whole process is draining, but you have the right attitude. It took me significantly longer than I thought it should have when I was readying those myself a few years back, as well as assistant professor job applications over the holidays a couple weeks ago. Doesn't help that universities all want pretty much the same general information but in as many different and confusing ways as possible.

Yeah. Securing letters of recommendation was an unbelievable headache at first. It's a good thing I started that process months in advance, or I'd probably be dead from stress right now. Then writing the statements of intent proved to be one of the most challenging (but fulfilling) experiences of my life. I figured I could be done with them in a couple of days each, but no. The process of writing a draft only took about an hour each time, but I wrote about 15 drafts for both applications before I finally felt satisfied with what I had to say. That's been my primary headache this week. There was also a brief technical scare when I couldn't log into my account on the school's website two days ago.

My schedule since 2018 began has been: wake up, work on applications, go to work, play mafia, work on applications, sleep, wake up, work on applications...

i'm a bit mentally fatigued.
