I definitely recall talk of "meta" back at LP, but not as much as it's occurred since TS's inception.

Bullsuit and pedantic pink were the best things to come out of this game.

I have made some pretty epic spreadsheets to track crazy game mechanics, with Bioshock perhaps being the most elaborate (tough call), but I'm sure BR and LC topped me here easily.

I really don't know how they did it.

aapje, I'm curious: was your lack of aggressivve baddie hunting the first 5 or so cycles entirely intentional due to your role, or was it at least partially sincere (being busy making it difficult to suss out baddies, etc.)?

I tried playing this game as civilian-friendly as possible, so I could then have the cred if I flipped and because I didn't feel the neutral approach to the early part of the game. Obviously in addition to a stressful start to the PhD semester, I struggled with baddie hunting this game due to the large amount of neutrals.

I'm taking non-monetary bets on whether this game (currently 5960 posts) will pass Death Note (7840 posts) as the mafia game on The Syndicate with the most posts. Who wants in?

I thought this game would win the title for sure from the get go, but part of me is wondering now.

My overall life satisfaction is not reflected by the rough times I've been having in mafia; that's 100% PhD stresses seeping in. Married life with Daisy is truly great. The wedding and honeymoon were absolutely amazing. I realize somehow we still haven't posted a ton of pictures here (though they are on Facebook), so that will happen -- for anyone who's interested.

Thanks for the game, BR and LC. It really is an awesome game. I'm sorry that it didn't come at a better time for me. I hope all of you have tons of fun. I look forward to the day when I can come back to playing mafia and it's not such an emotional burden for me; until then, I'll be around.

I just wanted to say that I've changed my mind and asked to be replaced, despite how amazing this game really is, and how long I've been looking forward to it. I will continue playing if LC and BR don't have a replacement or there's someone else who actually needs the replacement (I'd rather give it to someone else before myself), but otherwise it's clearly best if I deal with my own stress outside of the thread and find a new less emotionally stressful hobby for the current duration and for the foreseeable future while I juggle teaching for the first time, my PhD class workload, and trying to figure out my dissertation, among other things. I hope all of you will understand. I apologize again for my behavior not only in this game that was distinctly un-fun, but for anything I've done to make anyone else's game un-fun in previous games.

I'm really sorry for making this game un-fun for any of you, and for causing drama. I'm not a drama kind of guy at all, so I don't understand why I have such a hard time here, and I thought I would be able to control myself better to not explode on players, especially after I already did it once. Apparently I overestimated myself. I feel terrible about it. I don't want to affect anyone else's fun negatively this game, so I'm: (1) not sure when I'll be back to the thread, (2) going to not respond directly to any accusations unless a player has a specific inquiry for me they really want addressed, and (3) just going to take it easy for a while and force myself to re-focus on my studies, so I'll not be around as much.

In all honesty I just don't have the time to play mafia games anymore... but I love the game so much, you guys are literally almost the entirety of my social interactions, and you all are a really solid group of wonderful people (wow, this sounds like one of those "I'm drunk and did something terrible last night and I'm sorry" things, doesn't it?)

. And when I do play, I have a hard time playing half-assed, so I end up spending way more time on playing than I have available especially with all this work, and then I get mad easily when all my mafiaing is easily denounced, and feel like I wasted my time, since I spend almost literally all of my free time posting. I'm also realizing that I cannot emotionally handle any "you're lying!" accusations right now, they really are cutting me deep.

It's clear that I just need to finally follow through on a long mafia break. I thought the same thing multiple times before, especially after I subbed out of a game here early in the summer, but I keep getting sucked back in (and rightfully so), originally by playing games at RYM with those folks and loving it, and then later again due to Watchmen because of the awesome setup, etc. I just can't do it anymore though. I guess I should have subbed out here, but I just couldn't sub out of such an amazing game. Props to LC and BR.

What I'm really going to do is just calm down and take a different approach. Be back whenever.

Well, I'm leaving for the night. I don't know when I'll be back.

Why are you trying to "legitimize suspicions"? This is what I felt you were doing on Devin. Not spotting suspicious behavior and pointing it out, but rather justifying an existing desire to see him lynched, the motivations of which remain unknown.

What? That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying it's easier to legitimize a suspicion of someone who goes out of their way to commit to reads and opinions, i.e., high contributors.

Alex, your play is hypocritical. You are only suspicious of MM and brought this much attention to him because he suspects you. You don't give a damn about how he's playing the game, because if you did, you would have suspected him long ago. You are being an opportunist on an easy-to-lynch person.

I won't admit to even being remotely good at this game. I try my best. I realize everything I say isn't always logically sound or devoid of logical fallacy or even hypocrisy, so I'm glad you pointed this out. I apologize to MM for getting upset. I'm just not cut out to play this game and be a completely rational robot that makes the best arguments and never fails to react more heavily to suspicion against me than against others.

I do have a problem with people not playing, but I can't very well lynch people not playing, legitimate suspects that I do have all in one Day period. I also can't possibly have every single player in a game this size on my radar all from the getgo. Should I have called MM out earlier? Sure, probably.

You called him out and told him to play the game right. Because, according to you, there's a right way to play this game.
So when he played the game incorrectly for the past three day/night cycles, why did you sit quietly by?

I don't know what you expect from me; I can't pursue literally every player in the game at once. I thought he was trying to pull some BS on me, and I was here, so I called him out.

I still am not campaigning for his lynch over everyone else's, but it's frustrating to be called out for an unsubstantiated accusation on D4 after your accuser has gone the entire game without doing much of anything. That's all.

I've been trying to improve it, but apparently I still suck at it. For that, I apologize. I can take suspicion. I just get pissed off when someone comes in and accuses me of deception with incredibly weak/unsubstantiated reasoning after I've spent a lot of time posting/analyzing/whatever. I obviously need to take a step away and realize that it's just part of the game and not to get so worked up.
Don't sidestep this issue by making it about how you are "bad at walking away". That is an issue, but not the issue that is relevant to this game.
The real issue here is that you just attacked MM only for suspecting you. Yet, you give TinyBubbles and Dharmahelper and DFaraday free passes on this. Why the attention on MM?

No, I hadn't, fair enough. I've probably not directly commented on everyone's gameplay this game. I was responding to a question by Rox where she asked me about high posters, and you were the one of the top five lowest on my list, so yeah, I was explaining to her that I thought you were most likely to be bad based on a certain group. What's your point? I don't understand.

Your play isn't the only one I have qualms with -- DP, TinyBubbles, etc. have contributed the same amount. I don't know what you expect of me. I haven't really commented on you or gone after you aggressively because you haven't been one of my biggest suspects. I thought that was clear by my placement of you in my rainbow list.
