Hello, members of The Syndicate!

The Mafia Championship on MafiaUniverse is underway, and Game 4 starts very soon! This is important because Game 4 is the game in which our representative, Golden, will be playing and representing our site.

Here is the link to Game 4 on MafiaUniverse. The game starts at 8:00AM Eastern time tomorrow, Monday, May 16th. Day/Night cycles are 36/12 during the week and 60/12 on weekends.

Be sure to cheer him on in the Mafia Championship Season 3 discussion thread, but otherwise please do NOT talk about the game in any way there other than cheering him on. We don't want to break the integrity of the game.

Rather, if you wish to talk about the game with your fellow Syndicateers, respond to this PM requesting access to the hidden Game 4 Spectator Chat, and I'll make sure you're added ASAP.

Also, if you wish to talk about the game with members from all communities, log onto MafiaUniverse and PM Thingyman if you want to be added to the official Mafia Championship Skype chat, where members from various mafia sites will be spectating and discussing the game and other off-topic matters. It should be a good time as well.

Make it subscription only, I think. For instance, I should not be able to see it, and neither should zexy. And Thingyman should be able to see it so that he can monitor if he wants.

I don't even use skype ever except for this spectator chat; it was definitely fun last year, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping to keep more in touch with what happens in the games other than just the one our rep is playing too, as last year I paid incredible attention to Game 3, somewhat to Games 1 and 2, and none to the others, until the Finale.

I hope this doesn't seem too strict to you guys, but the game can become very uncomfortable (and unfair) if there is discussion about it outside of the game thread. If you want to have your own private spectator chat, that is of course also totally fine and I even encourage it (I'd love to be added if you make one of these)

Here is the game schedule for the Championship!

Golden is in Game 4, which starts May 16.

Sloonei is in Game 6, which starts June 6.

And we have other champions who have recently joined our mafia community because they were awesome enough to volunteer for the Mafia Championship Scrimmage game (currently in progress):

Marco from Naruto Forums is in Game 1, which starts April 25.

Dyslexicon from PersonalityCafe is in Game 2, which starts May 2.

Let's wish them all good luck! And be sure to add Thingyman on Skype to join the official spectator chat at any time (it's a lot of fun!), and/or visit Mafia Universe to watch the games progress starting April 25th.

Also, I said it on RYM already, but congratulations to Sloonei as well! Definitely well deserved. I'll be cheering you and Golden on for sure.

As of this morning, it seems the Championship is up to 105 participating communities, and 21 of those have selected a representative.

Also, I can't wait to see how the Matrix format plays out. I think that was a real good move on Thingyman's behalf; the cop format, while very balanced and pretty cool, became a bit formulaic towards the end of last season.

I can't express the magnitude of my excitement about this. Last season was awesome, but I have a feeling this season will be even better.

I can't possibly agree more! As much as I would like to win, I am very excited at the prospect of sending any of the other nominees over there; they're all fantastic additions to our community and bring something unique to every game. I can't wait to either participate myself or cheer one of them on!

On another note, although the championship is still almost a month from starting, I recommend to anyone who has an interest in getting involved on the ground floor with talking to folks to go ahead and register at Mafia Universe now and introduce yourself. I've been registered there since close to its inception but finally made an introduction post this morning. Even if you hardly end up posting over there, it wouldn't hurt to have a solid presence of Syndicate folks. I know a few of you are already signed up there, sig for example. Now might be a good way to develop contacts and MU would likely serve as a good crossover site to keep in touch with them in the future since many other mafia sites will be more present on MU during this time than otherwise.

Okay, so... against my better judgment, I've actually also been considering throwing my hat in the ring, but I'm not sure what to do.

The only way I could do it, and I already cleared this potentially with Thingyman and he said he could make it happen, is if my game were to occur in the May-ish range of the timeframe, otherwise I just couldn't justify it with everything going on IRL. But I do have a few week transition phase between spring and summer semesters -- May 7 through May 28 being the absolute maximum I can expand my window of availability, despite the middle part of that range probably being most optimal. During that time all I'll be doing is prepping a class that starts right at the end of May, and it's Principles of Accounting I which I just taught last fall semester, so it's not like prepping a totally new class, and working on writing and running empirics for my 2nd year paper. So it's possible that I'd actually have the time, and I'd definitely have way more time than I do now (or until November and December for that matter) and be much less stressed out than I have been since the semester began.

On the flipside, I have been enjoying my newly enacted playing break so far, and I thoroughly enjoyed spectating last season so I'd be fine with that again... but too large of a part of me really wants to participate in this and go in as 100% as possible.

Not sure I want to subject the mafia universe to a patented MP meltdown though. :P Especially if I fake one like I did in Roger Rabbit.

Just kidding, I'd probably not do that. Or would I...

Indeed, various folks spectated last year, both informally (by watching the game unfold on 2+2, though it'll be at Mafia Universe this year) and formally (Thingyman sets up a Skype chat for people to speculate and talk about the game and off-topic).

The spectator Skype chat was a TON of fun, I wish I could have participated in it even more than I did last time. I think there were about 100-150 usernames in there throughout the season, though not all simultaneously of course. It was a really great way to get the site's name out there and connect with folks from other sites too; I couldn't recommend it more highly.

What about you, Ricochet? You had an excellent first year of mafia last year (understatement) and consistently have shown yourself able to keep up with and mega-analyze high volumes of content.

As I said last year, I'm pretty sure a Vompatti nomination would get us banned from subsequent consideration. Not sure I want that. :P

I can appreciate the sentiment of unconventionality though.

Not the Vompatti campaign again.

With that said, we have a lot of very high quality players around here, and Turnip Head represented us well last year for sure. I'm confident we'll send someone that can deal with the posting volume and hopefully kick some other mafia community ass.

It does seem to depend on the game whether the activity will be intense or extremely intense, since Game 3 last year (the one Soneji and Turnip Head were in) was like at least 4 times as posty as Games 1 and 2. The best assumption is to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

So who would you all want to send this year? Feel free to discuss over the next two days before I make the potential player list public. We can apply some pressure that way.

And also just talk general tournament questions, comments, thoughts on how last year progressed if you have them, etc.
