Re: Monopoly Mafia [GAME OVER]

Turnip Head wrote:Lame! The BTSC that Bass and MP got really swung the game since they hooked up with the killer. Oh well. I'm happy with how I played this game, I always seem to come up just short.

Thanks a bunch for setting this up boo. This was a very fun game and was hosted flawlessly.
Ya, that isn't how it was going to work originally.

"Resurrect:

Two players will be returning to the game.

How it will work:
Any dead player interested in returning to the game will be able to participate.
During Day 10, all players who have expressed interest in coming back will move around the board, as it is at the start of the event.

The movements will go as follows:
The order of movements will be randomized. All players will start with $500. If you run out of money, you do not get to continue.
The first player gets randomly rolled, and it is their turn. They may make any actions they want at this time. Once they are done it goes to the second, then third, etc, all the way back up to the first, and the whole thing starts again.

Board changes: Chance and Community chest are just free spaces. All money any player has to pay out to another player is collected from the person landing on the space, BUT the player owed money may choose not to charge.

The first 2 players to make it successfully around the board will come back.

Getting ahead: Any player involved may buy add a die or remove a die during their turn (adding a die, if being used on themself, can be used when bought, but not until the next turn since a turn begins with rolling and then goes actions. buying remove a die to use on another player will take effect on that player's next turn). They both cost $100, and there is no cap on the number that may be purchased.

Helping out: All living players may choose which (if any) dead players they want to help. Help can be offered by giving dead players money, not charging them for landing on some or all of their properties if they land on them, and for $150 (each time) moving ahead or back 3 spaces any player of your choice to a maximum of 3 times during the event.

BTSC: Any living player may send a short message to any dead player during the event, through the host, at $50 a message. Dead players cannot initiate messages, but can reply to any message they receive for free.

What the two ressed players will do: The returning players will start with however much money they had left once they got around the board (and possibly more). Any other player can choose whether or not they will charge the returned player if they land on their property. The returned players can send out messages through the host 3 times during the day (and get a reply) and twice during the night (no replies) to any other player they want. The returned players will be able to win with anyone, if (and only if) there is at least 1 trade between the two players before the game ends. These conditions will not be subject to change (meaning they cannot get BTSC, so they will not be searching, searching them will be a waste of a search, and powers allowing for BTSC will be wasted on them). The two players who return to the game must make at least 1 successful trade during every day and every night, or they die. They can be lynched and nightkilled like anyone else."

Is a draft I had for how it was going to work (at the start of the game, there would have been no properties given to the 2 or 3 people who came back in, they would have had to get them from other people who they were working with, and the messages probably wouldn't have happened or been fairly costly). For a while I considered not doing it at all, but once it came down to SD and DP being the two inactives left, them being the same colour group, and their teammate being dead, I set it up. Had more deadies expressed an interested in coming back (it was just MP and bass who did, although giving them all more time to decide and send in a PM probably would have changed things) when it did happen, the dealing that occurred before the two who got around the board first probably would have changed things. So none of that was ideal or went how I would have liked it.

The baddies-proper really got hammered throughout the game. BWT and MM probably would have done well if BWT had been luckier. And then MM did have the first Captain Planet, and could have gotten BTSC with DF and SVS (both of the remaining RRs, they each had NKed a red, and so had MM, which while it would have done away with the NKs, would have created a powerhouse team in terms of properties, and prevented DF targeting MM with a NK which pretty much got them both killed. Unfortunately for MM, I think he had thought if he let DF die (he was taking heat when MM played captain planet and picked the reds) and the red property he had got moved along to someone else, he could get BTSC with that person instead (it was with the holders at the time of the power being player you could get BTSC with).

I was generally pleased with how the money and buying of stuff worked out. The lack of death by bankruptcy kind of surprises me, but once all the anonymous house buying was done, there was a lack of interest in the public ones for a fear of getting killed over buying them I think. I think in retrospect I would have made more of it anonymous, and probably had any powers a dead person had at the time of their death re-available for purchase since grabbing stuff before dying became a favourite.

And to settle one thing:

LC (+7): Metalmarsh89 (3) worth 14, Turnip Head (9) worth 0, Bass_the_Clever (11) worth 2 = 23 total

MM (+10): Long Con (2) worth 3, LoRab (4) worth 7, HannaK (5) worth 4, MovingPictures07 (7) worth 1, fingersplints (8) worth 13, Black Rock (10) worth 3 = 41

there's the day 11 vote. Fingersplints pretty much decided the outcome there, that lynch could have gone very differently (at the time, LR and hannas votes were also pretty solidly in the 'not their own best interest' category along with FS, since there's a good chance if LC had died that lynch instead, BR still probably kills TH the next night, then who knows for the D12 lynch since MM would probably have taken himself off it but then been out of luck if the game made it to a D13). Votes were worth 1 per $250 a person had (rounding went down, you had to have $250 to get it to 1, $500 to 2, etc).

With the successful merger of Black Rock, Long Con, Lorab, and bea, and the help of their silent partners MovingPictures07 and Bass_the_Clever, fingersplints was out of options, sold off everything she owned, and after seriously considering just flipping over the board, instead decided to run away before being murdered like the other twenty-one people before her.

Night 11 End/Day 12 Start: Turnip Is Gross

Vermont Avenue does not like turnip. Vermont decided to make their distaste plain with murder.

TH has been killed by Vermont Avenue. Thanks for playing TH!
It is now Day 12. You have 48 hours to lynch someone.

Captain Planet: Allows the player who uses this power to choose for any other set in the game (meaning not their starting property set) that they or someone they BTSC with has a property of. Once chosen they can then search each night for and get BTSC with (any BTSC either the searcher has or the person they search and find has is also part of this BTSC, and they can all win together). Anyone who holds one of the properties at the time the power is used (even if that card wasn’t their starter) is considered to be part of the set (if traded after the power is used, the person who had the property at the time of use is still the person who if searched would result in getting BTSC with the searcher). Bids for this power are made privately via PM. If BTSC is gained as a result of using this card, any NK anyone in the BTSC has is lost. - Starts at $500

Own The Block: This power allows you to take control the side of the board of your starting property. In order to use it, you must have BTSC or the cards of your could-have-been teammates of your starting property, and at least 1 card from every other set on that side (meaning 1 of each colour at least, the railroad, and the utility if applicable). Once used, any money that would go to the bank from people landing on such spaces, instead goes to you. - Starts at $300

Oh, and 9 houses at $100 each (do not need to be used right away).

I'm pretty sure that's all of them, I'll let you know if any of that's wrong or there are more to add as it comes up.

Well it wasn't a straight out replace, SD and DP just left since they weren't actually playing so MP and bass would have a property to start with. I just put them both back in where they were for my SS and changed the necessary stuff.

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Day 10]

In the actual game, as far as I know (it's how I've always played at least) mortgaging just works as flipping over the card, getting the value on the back from the bank (half of what you pay for it), and keeping it. Then if you ever have enough money, you pay back the bank, and flip it back over. While mortgaged, you don't get to collect money for it. And before mortgaging, any houses or hotels have to be sold off.

It works pretty much the same way here (the even build rule applies to downgrading as well as building).

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Day 10]

Spacedaisy and DisgruntledPorcupine have both been removed from the game.

Bass_the_Clever and MovingPictures07 have both been ressed and are back in the game. They won't be able to be lynched today.

Here's what I told them:

You can win with anyone in the game, you won't be able to get any BTSC at all, so that condition cannot change.

However, in order to actually be able to win with a person, you must successfully make a trade with them at least once before the game ends.

In order to stay alive, you both must make at least 1 trade with another player during every day and every night period from now until the game ends. You can trade anything you want (including the property you each start with), it just can't be money for money.

During days, you may both send up to 3 PMs to any player you want (through me) and those players will be able to respond. During nights, you may send out 2 PMs, without getting a response (once again, through me). The trading you do can be discussed in these PMs, but you just need to PM me what you want to trade and who (you don't have to specify that part) you want to trade with, and those PMs won't count (the 3/2 you get are meant as limited BTSC to make alliances with anyone you want more than it is to organize trading).

You can still be lynched and nightkilled.

Other players will be able to decide whether or not you get charged if you land on their property (if it has a hotel, it gets paid from the bank until then just like everyone else).

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Day 9]

Turnip Head wrote:First of all, I'm confused, because I should have won Baltic and Mediterranean but I got neither. After the official bidding period closed with no bids placed, I placed $1 bids on the properties at 4:22pm PST, and no one outbid me within 30 minutes of that post. The next bid was MM at 5:05pm PST. So... I should have those properties. If I had, I would have placed my three little houses on them now.

I'm also confused as to why I stopped rolling after getting doubles, as has been happening all game. I landed on a hotel and stopped there for some reason, when I should have had another roll.

Anyway,I guess it looks pretty bad for me. I bought some houses, and then the pinks upgraded to hotels. Interesting that this warrants me being lynched, since it's the first evidence that clears me of being WW or a RR. And as LC astutely pointed out, all but one of you is in an LMS group yourself. So why do we continue to play this little game when we all know it has moved to the next stage?

Image

But go ahead, vote me for being LMS just like you! :)

I'm still interested in finding baddies, and I think I found one. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe SVS is Water Works.

My suspicions started when she out-of-the-blue called me out as being LMS when accusations were flying that I was Water Works or Railroad. She cited my being upset at splintsy's accusation of me being a railroad as indication that I was LMS, which is a connection that doesn't really make sense. For what it's worth, SVS began calling me out as being LMS on Day 7. The houses on the pinks showed up on Night 7, which means the pinks probably gained full BTSC on Night 6 and into Day 7, right before SVS's accusations of me started. Also keep in mind that Water Works has known my role since Day 1. Also keep in mind that SVS had actually DEFENDED me and my behavior right up until Day 7 when she started saying I was LMS. Then she cited my reaction to the railroad accusations as reason to think I'm LMS, which again, is a very tenuous connection and perhaps one a baddie would try to make to justify the knowledge they gained behind the scenes.

So WW has known my role since Day 1. You know who else Water Works knew the role of? Bass_the_Clever.
Board Movements wrote:From Night 6 To Day 7
12. Bass_the_Clever: Started on Free Parking. Moved 8 (3+5) to Water Works (1+4*4=$20 to WW from bank, learn role).
Here's SVS's reaction to Bass' death:
S~V~S wrote:That's interesting; I was getting the feel that bass had a team, so shrug:.
That's a guilty looking post, IMO. One a killer would make to justify her choice.

As my last piece of evidence, SVS only made ONE post on the subject of BWT on the day he was lynched. It was a big post, she brought up multiple people (the kind of thing baddies do to bury the suspicion on their own teammate)... and when she got down to the BWT section of her post, she cited suspicion of him but also defended him in the same breath. It's the kind of doublespeak you tend to see from baddie partners. In her next post, 4 minutes later, she votes for MM over BWT.

So there's my case. You're almost all in LMS groups right now, so if you want to vote me out because you think I'm in an LMS group when almost everyone in the game is guaranteed to be in one, go for it. People have wanted me dead all game for a variety of reasons so I wouldn't be surprised or angry. But if you'd rather vote for a baddie today, and get rid of the one person who can learn your role and then kill you to take all your cards, I think we're much better off lynching SVS today. Let the baddies kill me at night, they will have to at some point anyways. And I still have my protect, so maybe I can get them to waste an NK in the process ;)
Not moving again after doubles was a mistake (I think it's the first time I've made that one... hopefully), apologies, I will correct it in a few minutes and post the update.

I acknowledge the possibility that they could have a lot of money, I'm just saying they could have survived without so much. They could be sitting on the position where the next time a payment is required of them for something they could go bankrupt.

I'm unsure about Turnip Head being a baddie. Part of my problem is I can't remember all the evidence against him for being WW and I never did understand the theory that he's a railroad. Night 7 End/Day 8 Start: Double the Killing

With a terrible odour, B. & O. Railroad murdered MP.
MovingPictures has been killed by B. & O. Railroad. Thanks for playing MP!

It is now Day 8. You have 48 hours to lynch TWO people. In addition, votes in this lynch won’t be moveable.

Powers:
1st) Nest Egg (When played, allows the user to hide however much of their money they wish on the space they are currently on. On their next time around the board, they will get $150+their money back if they pass the space, and their money back+$250 and a random power if they land on it. Hiding more money increases the chances of a better power, by allowing the player to choose powers they do not want to get). - Starts at $75
2nd) Windfall (Makes the next amount of money the player who uses this card gets be at least double what it would be, with the possibility of being as high as x5. If used on a hotel payment, the payer pays the normal amount, but the receiver gets 2-5x the listed amount). - Starts at $200
3rd) Own The Block: This power allows you to take control the side of the board of your starting property. - Starts at $200

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Night 7]

Long Con wrote:How can the reds put up their nine houses for sale AND still build hotels?

Don't you exchange the four houses back to the bank when you upgrade them to hotels?

So, if I had a property group with four houses on each, then I could build hotels and then put those houses on another property group (assuming I somehow had two) for FREE?

These questions are for boo.
There were still houses left when they made the switch, so they paid $300 to go from 3 to a hotel on each, skipping over the 4th since they could have bought them but would have just had that turn around and included them in the 9 being sold in thread, which wasn't necessary at that time.

When houses are returned for any reason (which is the case with the 9 reds, that money isn't going to them, they upgraded to hotels which lost them control of the 9 houses they did have) they get sold in thread at the price the person who bought them paid ($50/$100/$150/$200).

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Day 7]

Day 7 End/Night 7 Start: On the Boardwalk

keys tried to hold a union meeting on his boardwalk. So the mob framed him as a killer to justify killing him.

keys56abunchof0s has been lynched. He was Boardwalk. Thanks for playing keys!
It is now Night 7. You have 24 hours to get PMs in.

Boardwalk is up for auction. Bidding starts at $1, all bids must increase by at least $1 from the previous bid.

Mutually Assured Survival/Destruction and Roleblock are now both for sale. They start at their starting amount, you bid for it in thread, if no one raises you within 30 minutes it’s yours.

Heads up: Only the 9 $150 houses that you buy in thread (post that you want it, if no one increases the bid within 30 minutes of you buying it specifying that they want to outbid you) are left. You do not have to use these ones right away (meaning anyone can buy them).

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Night 6]

One thing I would like to get out there: It takes a while to get the rolls for board movements done, and once they're done any house or hotel building that gets done doesn't go through until the following board movement. So, it's best to get any building you may want to do sent in earlier in the night rather than later.

There's still some stuff that's being sold (you can find that on the first page a few posts down), that's 2 properties offers are being taken on, the powers that did not sell today, and the 9 houses at $150 each that you do not need to use right away. For the properties, you can PM me your offer (that isn't Penn Ave which just went up), and for the powers and houses, it's post your offer in thread, everyone else gets 30 minutes to raise your offer by at least $1 or you get it (for the houses, if someone makes and offer on one, and you make an offer within 30 minutes of them, you may specify if you want to raise them or just make an offer on a different house instead).

Remove a die and Money is Power did not receive bids. You may buy them now (make an offer at or above the starting bid, if no one raises your offer within 30 minutes of you making it, by at least $1, you win it. If they do, you or anyone else has 30 minutes to raise their offer, and so on until no one raises the offer).

Long Con wrote:Let's lynch MovingPictues07, because zeek is clearly his partner. And - get this - I'm not one of the reds, so that makes it more likely that MP and zeek ARE the reds.

If you're really not interested in lynching baddies anymore, then you need to go after the reds, because they are going to have literally thousands and thousands of dollars very soon. They will be unstoppable because they will buy every property up for grabs, every prize, and more than likely are already making private offers of cash for loose properties.

I don't know what they're trying to pull with the house sale thing, but maybe it's something like this: sell the houses every day after the night post, and use that money to win any stuff they want, and then buy whatever houses they can reasonably afford before the next night is up.

So first of all, don't buy the houses. Not that anyone would, I can't see a situation where someone would buy those houses instead of going to the bank.

@boo: can players sell houses back to the bank? If so, what does the bank pay for used houses?

Also, when someone upgrades from 4 houses to a hotel, do the houses go back on the market?
Yes. Half of what was spent to build it. All houses that get returned go up for auction, starting at the amount they were paid for.

Turnip Head wrote:Rest in peace Epi :( Sorry to see you go.

I agree LC, I think an inactive player is in charge of the utilities' kill now that BWT is gone. But how are we going to question the inactives? How are we going to get a feel for them individually? There's like 4 different players who haven't posted in 2 weeks.
Turnip Head wrote:On another note, we really need to start ferreting out the LMS groups, especially the reds. I wouldn't be surprised if they won the bid for the Beatdown power, which would let them take over Water Works' kill if WW is eliminated. Might be better to leave that NK in the hands of a comatose player...
So from these two posts I get the feel that you would prefer to forget the second Util, and let them pile up names/$$ and concentrate on the LMS? While I would rather get baddies, boo saying (very very vaguely) that the kill may not die with clearly baddie teams makes it a bit more murky, and I am a move or two from Red Ville.

Leaving the last util be could be both a good and a bad strategy. Personally, i would rather wait for two missed kills before declaring it a low poster, rather than someone trying to set up low posters. But if 2 kills are missed... There are still 2 rails left as well, though, unless the 3 remaining after Made died all found each other night one and BR 1.0, the only Util kill, was a rail. Which is impossible, as she would not have replaced back in from a BTSC role, as well as very unlikely even had she not replaced back in.

I am still very leery of zeeks quiet~ I know he says otherwise but I am not sure I believe him to be on the level. I am also I am not a fan of Llama changing course on LC since we are going into the "turning on each other" phase of the game a bit earlier than I had expected it to happen, it seems. I don't think they are original baddies, but that sudden change is worrisome if we are looking to LMS teams.

I have been afraid of bidding for stuff after being NKed night one, but I will continue to bid for the protection, and am considering Captain Planet, pending a question:

@boo~ If one bids on Captain Planet, and has no current partners or cards other than the original one, I presume it can be held in reserve?

If I get the answer I hope for, I might be willing to risk a big chunk of my stash on that. A bigger BTS group has a better chance, and the more civs banded together the more "civ" we remain.

Linki~ other than LC, do you have any other suspicions?
Yes.

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Day 6]

Long Con wrote:Boo, can you please explain Captain Planet differently? I think it links two LMS groups, but the details are not clear to me.
More or less, but it doesn't have to be LMS groups (a civvie, railroad, or utility can also use it). It essentially adds a group to yours, that you get to choose, and then search for (so you choose any colour group, the utilities, or the railroads, and then you'd get a search each night looking for anyone held a property that is in the group you chose when you chose it, so for example, if you chose the railroads, anyone who had a railroad property when you made that selection, you would be searching for and get BTSC and be able to win with once you found them).

It is now Day 6. You have 48 hours to lynch someone.

Board movements
Updated board

Powers:
1st) Money is Power (When played, it changes the value of all votes in the present or next lynch. Players with more money have votes worth more, and players with less money have votes worth less). - Starts at $100
2nd) Protect (Can be used to protect a person of your choice at night if you pick during a day, and remove a person of your choice from being on the lynch poll if used at night) - Starts at $50
3rd) Rob the bank (Allows the player who uses it to attempt to rob the bank. They will either get an amount of $100+, or be sent to jail) - Starts at $25
4th) Captain Planet: Allows the player who uses this power to choose for any other set in the game (meaning not their starting property set) that they or someone they BTSC with has a property of. Once chosen they can then search each night for and get BTSC with (any BTSC either the searcher has or the person they search and find has is also part of this BTSC, and they can all win together). Anyone who holds one of the properties at the time the power is used (even if that card wasn’t their starter) is considered to be part of the set (if traded after the power is used, the person who the property at the time of use is still the person who if searched would result in getting BTSC with the searcher). Bids for this power are made privately via PM. If BTSC is gained as a result of using this card, any NK anyone in the BTSC has is lost. - Starts at $500
5th) Remove a die (Allows the player who uses it to remove a dice roll from anyone they want) - Starts at $50

Re: Monopoly Mafia [Day 5]

Day 5 End/Night 5 Start: NoU2

As Boogs and his U2 coverband NoU2 did a show, everyone else, hating U2 for forcefully giving them free music they couldn’t get rid of, decided to take it out by killing Boogs.

Boogs has been lynched. He was St James Place. Thanks for playing Boogs!
It is now Night 5. You have 24 hours to get PMs in.

St James Place and Pennsylvania Railroad are now both up for auction. The bidding for both starts at $1, and bids must increase from previous bids by at least $1. If you voted for Boogs, you get +200 to any bid you make. Bidding will end at 10pm EST.

To return to the replacement discussion:
I’ve decided not to kill off people who have requested one. While some teammates of these people are disadvantaged by that, I’m just not confident that they would be any better off if the situation were to change. I’m willing to have new people to replace in (please let me know if you’re interested), but because I do want to possibly see the res event occur, I’m not going to bring back players who get killed any more than I have. To respond to some questions about that: you won’t being coming back in the role you had, but having BTSC prior to death and returning is an issue I’ve also dealt with. As for the when of it, my original plan was around the halfway point in terms of number of people left with 2-3 people brought back. My new plan is probably when about 11-13 people are left alive, with 1 or 2 coming back. Although I’m split on whether or not it will happen, but that will get sorted out as we move further along.
