We both have cyclical spells of insomnia. It sucks. Many years ago I went through a really long period where I didn't fall asleep before 4 or 5 am for at least a good 6 months. That is not good for your body! Seeing a sleep specialist helped, but I think you just can't always cure insomnia completely.
I do much better now, but still have issues from time to time. I thrive on like 8-9 hours of sleep, but I think I usually settle for 7, and don't complain if I get them all. Sleep sucks. Well, that's not true. Sleep is wonderful. It's just such a hassle sometimes. Speaking of which, I believe it's time for me to take my evening cocktail of pills. They help immensely! Sleep tight you mafia goons!
