Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 14]

Well I'm voting now before I forget yet again. I believe at least that Mac is civ, if not necessarily that he's right about everything. So since he and Wilgy are the only ones with votes and I don't wanna spread it too much, my vote goes to Wilgy.

Happy new year (soon) everyone!

Well, they were both right.

Mac, I'm down to try to help you out, here. Why Matt today, specifically, of the 3? My understanding is you think he, Dom, and Wilgy are all bad, and that he's one of 2 Empire. I guess I don't see how killing him today helps you out.

I think Mac is in need of a calming down. Any reason why he can't be bad that I can't remember? I'm just trying to get my numbers straight and wondering if I'm making a false assumption.
Yeah no, he could totally be bad as well. I was making a temporary simplifying assumption of honesty. This post doesn't make me feel like you're good, though, and if you're not then his chances of being increase dramatically.
Why?
What team do you suppose I am?
What??

Haha I've confessed to having read up to about 3 pages by now. How on Earth would I have an inkling of what team you're on? Tying my guess of your team to the idea that your previous post looked bad is a weak attempt to invalidate my first point by giving me an impossible task.

Your original post when I was discussing with Mac said nothing about your own alignment, despite the fact that Mac very clearly accused you of a specific one. Instead of going after the point itself, you tried to undermine the credibility of the point-maker. To make matters worse, you held off on actually accusing Mac of anything, which makes me think you didn't expect something like that to go over well. You couched your whole statement with this "well I may be missing an assumption" thing. My bullshit detector is screaming right now.
What?

I had a reason to believe he was a certain role. I no longer have reason to believe that and was wondering if anyone else had something I had missed.

I'm not tying your newfound suspicion of me to anything but logic. Am I Empire? No. I went after MP very hard and only missed the SD vote because I got drunk. I expressed interest in lynching Hutts a lot, and only missed the Jabba vote because I work retail and it was black Friday. That's not perfect, but I think my voting record speaks for itself.

Not expecting something to go well does not make someone bad. I have had mutliple clashes with Mac this game which have upset me in a very real way. So, yes, I'm reluctant to ever express doubt in him because when I do, I get told to eat dick or that I'm an asshole.
Hmm. I am a fan of logic, but beyond that I see your points.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 13]

MacDougall wrote:Russ - Jawa
Niju - Jawa
Wilgy - Tuskan

Russ and Niju are both basically cross claiming by not disputing the read. This coupled with the dead Jawa's legacy makes me sure of them. Wilgy could be just a bad guy sending fake messages I guess... but Faraday seemed to be okay with him towards the end so yeah. I am pretty happy that all three of these are sorted.

Dom - Possible Hutt partner. I had a few pings around that ages ago but preferred other candidates that were proven wrong. His vote was absent on the day that Zebra, Brian and Enrique (all dead confirmed Hutt) were the candidates. That's not alignment indicative but it's strange as it was the only day he no voted. He could have also been silenced. If there are any of the four remaining who Zebra's last movements made look civilian it would be Dom and myself.

Matt - I believe he is Lando Calrissian based on the fact that he believes I am lying about my forced vote. He's done similar things before where he mistakes things for role claims. I think he thinks I am claiming his role. When in actuality (and I'm sure most agree) there are actually other quite obvious instances of force voting in this game. Matt seems to believe I am lying about being force voted, but he hasn't voted for me much (if at all), because I think he puts his vote up for sale so he can't actually choose who he is voting for hence voting for people like Niju and Bass randomly.

Daisy - Glorfindel and Daisy have been suspects all game. MP is evidently notorious for distancing so his insistent voting of Glorfindel and Daisy is (apparently) reflective of scum MP. Aside from that I sensed the sort of mafia panic in Spacedaisy when she was close to being lynched, the day she started personally insulting me (no hard feelings haha) didn't feel to me like a civilian (especially a replace in civilian) desperate to survive. Look at every other non Mafia lynch. Rarely did our civilians buck much. Spacedaisy reacted very angry. Like the last of a scum team would.

Mac - Golden had a scum read on me. He based it on the fact that he thought I was leading the town down wrong paths incorrectly, which since his demise has only made me look worse tbh haha. Aside from Matt saying I'm lying when I wasn't I haven't seen much else accusational towards me. I guess me being alive still is weird.

If we lynch Daisy today and we don't land a bad guy, it'll be terribly unfortunate. Dom is pretty likely to be the last Hutt at this point. Especially when you factor in his choice of kills. Me going around him day after day is a reason to leave me alive, whereas DFaraday I believe is someone who Dom has played with and considers quite capable so taking him out is a tactical move for a guy like Dom. Matt would almost have surely taken me out by now if he was bad.

Spacedaisy + Dom are all that's left I think, with a small chance of DrWilgy's poison PMs being Empire trickery.
Cool analysis. I do want to say that I have never claimed and will never claim a role. Glad we got Daisy though - guess MP was right after all. Sorry I missed (yet another) vote. I should've voted earlier but didn't know which way things would go and didn't want to mess anything up. Then the Bengals game distracted me, as I predicted.

Also, if there are still 3 baddies alive, more than likely that at least one of them is playing hard (i.e. not a low poster).

Mind you, she also had Eloh down and I think that read was wrong. But maybe that was more just because they were clashing.

I will say - I've been offered a sum of credits to vote MP today, so if the case is convincing enough (or, if MP is clearly not going to be lynched), then that is the way I intend to vote today. On the other hand, it seems kind of horrid, even if the case is good, to force MP to defend too much today. It's just not going to be viable for him, so I'm conflicted about it.
That's the thing, all of the other players Roxy listed as scum were well-documented, and all of them besides MP were more likely than not because she was clashing with them, myself included.

Just like Simon, you've already made up your minds about me and let's face the facts - because you're unwilling to seriously consider a vote on anyone inside your little clique, I'd pretty much be wasting my time as will you while you blissfully skip down the path to oblivion next day phase on another fanciful quest while the Mafia sit back and laugh at you all...
So Glorfindel, I'm taking from this that you don't think any of the people you mentioned (MP, Golden, Mac, Zeb, and possibly others) are bad, despite you accusing them of all wanting to vote you and not consider other viewpoints. In theory he's still alive, though, because sarlaacs digest their prey in an agonizing process over 1,000 or 10,000 years (I forget which). The scuttlebutt at the cantina is that if you listen closely when the wind blows from the east, you can still hear his screams....

He always does this, and no, his wonkiness knows no bounds. If he finds one he promptly breaks it. It's actually working out really well for him, although probably less so for his teammates in games where he's civ.

I agree. Now how do you suppose we go about doing that?
We should ask them. Russ, are you Boba Fett?
I'm interested in why you picked Russ first to ask.
No.

It looks to me like you are scum and you are day 1 distancing a scum teammate. Your case on him has all the hallmarks of it. You have confirmation bias when it comes to his posts.

His (Enrique's) response to bcornett's Russtifinko suspicion looks genuine and should Russ be scum, he would not be in my opinion.
Mac, c'mon, man. You can't say twice that I look really civ to you and then give two examples where you'll be sure of someone's alignment if I flip bad. You're setting me up for one of your "I don't think he's bad but we should kill him anyway" lynches.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 0]

OMG, you guys are already posting at TH levels. Kill me now....
a2thezebra wrote:Why only that planet? You agree with DDL's logic and he himself said that they are viable to imitate the actions of everyone else by avoiding voting last every day.

First of all, "so quick"? Second, how is partial agreement a ping for you?
Not necessarily only that planet. But IF only that planet then I think it would've been a super good indicator.
Golden wrote:My experience of DDL is that he always seems suspicious early on. I thought he was bad day one in economics and he wasn't.
Thanks for pointing this out, I haven't played with him much.

Dragon D. Luffy wrote: Okay I'll admit I kind of made a mistake there. I said what was on my mind, then I realized saying it might have ruined it, so I tried to find a silver lining by talking about the metagame thing, which admitelly I still think might work.
Thanks. Not sure i 100% buy this, because the post where you fully explained the idea and the one where you said fully explaining it might not be the best idea were the same post. However, you had at least given the major point in the previous post, so I suppose the cat was out of the bag anyway at that point.

I agree that it might still work, but I think you've severely decreased our chances.

I want everyone to discuss this.

How are these two statements compatible?
Yeah, I don't see your point. To me those two statements say almost exactly the same thing. I basically reworded it the at the end because "I can't decide" sounds waffly.

Well I got someone to start baddie hunting, so I guess it was successful in that sense at least.

Well I like to discuss tactics. Not the first game I've done that. In any case, I have no intention of using such methods as failproof evidence of anyone being mafia, while ignoring other evidence. I just want to have them in mind in case we need to use them later, or maybe help people have their own ideas on how we can use the game mechanics to find mafia.
I get what you're saying DDL, and I appreciate your efforts to look for certain strategies (assuming these efforts are genuine, but I'll get to that in a bit), but I don't think I fully understand your logic here.

DFaraday wrote:I'm sure there would be plenty of civs as well as baddies who would avoid voting rather than risk being the last vote, so I'm not sure how that would make a player suspicious. Placing their own interests ahead of the town, sure, but not baddie per se.
Well I'm assuming the empire mafia knows what the planet is going to be destroyed is, so that means they wouldn't have to worry about being the last ones to vote in the other phases, but would have to worry in that specific phase where the planet explodes. I'm speculating that we could try to find that pattern. Of course there would be other players avoiding voting last, so it wouldn't be a conclusive evidence.

Of course, now that I've said that, they could also worry about it in every single phase just to attempt to mask the pattrn. Then again, if I get mafiosos to play in a non-optimal way just to avoid being found, that's a profit.

I love metagaming. :p
I agree with DFaraday. But more importantly, how would we able to find a pattern? What pattern? Assuming you're right and the empire knows which planet will be destroyed (which I wouldn't be too sure that that assumption is correct) that only means, as you said, they would only have to be cautious with that particular planet. One planet. So where's the pattern we're looking for? And you seem to be tip-toeing a bit here with your reasoning. Proposing a method of finding baddies only to follow it up with "so it wouldn't be conclusive evidence" makes me wonder why bring up that potential tactic in the first place? It seems like you're just saying things like this to appear as if you're contributing. And you make it worse by excusing that this imaginary pattern could be copied for each phase, so again, what's the point? And finally, how would you, and you mention you specifically rather than town as a whole, (why?) be able to get mafiosos to play in an unorthodox way to be spotted? Or am I simply misunderstanding your reasoning here? Please help me out here. Finally, to return to the original post:
Dragon D. Luffy wrote:Not the first game I've done that.
I'm not a fan of players hiding behind their meta especially in response to slight pings. Consider me slightly pinged as well.

zebra, I'm actually NOT pinged by DDL's logic here. He's right - if Tarkin chose one planet that gets blown up, the baddies know which one it is, so you can be damned sure they'll avoid voting last at that planet and only that planet. The rest of us will try not to vote last on EVERY planet. So if DDL hadn't said anything, we could've looked hindsight to see if anyone who normally votes late voted early on the day the planet blew up.

What pinged me was that he blew this angle by explaining it, and then went hyper-meta with it. And I'm also slightly pinged that you were so quick to join me here, but with a different point.

Re: STAR WARS Mafia [Day 0]

Ok, so for the srs bsns I promised:

1) Voting Tatooine. Less for movie reasons and more because if we want info about Jabba's plans and our operatives found his plans in his palace, it makes sense to think his palace is a good place to start the search.

2) DDL, I can't decide whether it's civ-ish or a baddie move to run through all the possible ways you'd catch a baddie based on the planet mechanic before we get a chance to actually use any of the methods. Consider me slightly pinged, there.

NF doesn't have lynch polls, that's probably why he's confused.
Oh, gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. Yeah as Golden said, non-players and the hosts usually vote in the polls. Traditionally at The Syndicate no one dies on Day 0 anyway, so even if you had been last I'd be shocked if there were anything to worry about.
