You know, Mafia always makes me think of Henry Fonda in Twelve Angry Men. This made me feel doubly so.

Only instead of proving innocence, we were trying to show that Juror #3 should be strung up by his shoelaces. :mafia:

Thanks! I totally get the 12 Angry Men element. Have you seen the Russian remake "12"? It's quite good. It's very long and very awesome.

Anyway, hopefully you will come check out Film Director mafia, which will be a full game midway through the year or so.

Night 6: Sorry, Wrong Number
Image

"Bea!? what are you doing on the phone?"

"Sorry, wrong number," bea replied, and abruptly hung up the phone.

"This is getting ridiculous," said Nev.

"Where's Mattmatt?" asked Vompatti.

"I think he is in that back room, petting the owners' cat, Franz Lizst," Nev stated.

"I wouldn't mind petting the cat, if you know what I mean," winked Vompatti.

"I never know what you mean," stated Nevinera.

"Well, let's go reunite Team VAL," said Lizzy.

Nev stared awkwardly at his shoes.

"And Nev too, I suppose," Lizzy said. "Team VLAN doesn't have the same ring to it though, does it?"

Vompatti opened the door to the diner's storage room. A Person had sizeable claw marks all over his face, and his throat had been ripped out.

"Bad kitty!" shouted Team VAN.

Strangeness on a Train

"Hey, I hear a train a'comin' in the distance!" shouted Vompatti.

"Let's jump it!" Bea declared.

Running pace with the train, they jumped aboard one by one. SVS reached out her arm to A Person, pulling him aboard.

"That was a close call!" Nevinera said.

"Too close," Timmer said.

"Hey, I think I have granola bars in my bag," Lizzy said, sitting down against the wall of the train car, opening her bag.

A shriek was heard. The detectives turned to see Bea plummeting from the train.

"I'll have a double!" Vompatti roared.

"Child's play," said A Person.

The bartender poured a round of drinks.

"Ugh, there's blood on the hem of my dress," Kate moaned.

"I think I have some on my face," stated Nev.

S~V~S turned to look at him. "Yep, ya sure do," handing him her initial-embossed handkerchief.

"This smells like absinthe," Hedgeowl mused.

Epignosis said nothing because he was dead.

"Well, bottoms up, guys!" said MetalMarsh.

TurnipHead started to shudder. Blackened blood came out of his nose and dripped down his throat. Collapsing in a heap, his eyes looked anything but peaceful.

"That's a poisoning death if I ever saw one!" said Roxy.

Re: [Day 2]: Film Noir.

Lights Out for All

The group was still visibly shaken from the deaths of Gleam and Flyin' High, but still they soldiered on. There was much booze and laughter to have, in fact! Asta smelled something fishy and it wasn't cod.

The detectives took turns investigating the room. S~V~S, an intrepid explorer, told everyone to start pounding on the walls.

"I wouldn't mind pounding on the walls, if you know what I mean," said Vompatti.

"I do know what you mean, Vomps," said A Person.

"Hey, wait a minute guys," Epignosis said. "I think I found something."

The detectives crowded around. timmer pulled out his engraved lighter and flicked it on.

"It's a secret passage!" Turnip Head stated.

The detectives started down the hallway. They could hear the rocks under their feet (or at least they prayed they were rocks and not bones).

"Ugh, I think I got a spiderweb on my face," HedgeOwl spat.

"I wouldn't mind a spiderweb on my face, if you know what you mean," said Vompatti.

"No. No, I actually don't," said boo.

The group finally arrived at a door. Metalmarsh and Lizzy pried it open and everyone streamed through, one at a time. Once inside the new room, timmer flicked his lighter on again.

"I know what this is, guys!" Roxy stated. "It's a speakeasy."

"I could use a drink," stated Epignosis.

"Me too," muttered HedgeOwl.

"I'm going to check this out to make sure it's safe before we all start running around like chickens with our heads cut off. Kneel4Justice, will you come with me?" Dom asked.

K4J agreed and the two were off.

While the remaining group loitered in the lobby, the lights went out.

Thunder crackled in the distance. When the lights came back on, there was a horrifying scene.

There was nothing witty about the tableau before them. Dom was dead, swinging from a noose.

Dom has been killed. He was Preacher Harry Powell.

It is now Night 2. You have 24 hours to send in your PMs.

Re: [Day 2]: Film Noir.

The Hays Code is Coming

The Motion Picture Production Code of 1930 (Hays Code)

Image

If motion pictures present stories that will affect lives for the better, they can become the most powerful force for the improvement of mankind

A Code to Govern the Making of Talking, Synchronized and Silent Motion Pictures. Formulated and formally adopted by The Association of Motion Picture Producers, Inc. and The Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, Inc. in March 1930.
Motion picture producers recognize the high trust and confidence which have been placed in them by the people of the world and which have made motion pictures a universal form of entertainment.

They recognize their responsibility to the public because of this trust and because entertainment and art are important influences in the life of a nation.

Hence, though regarding motion pictures primarily as entertainment without any explicit purpose of teaching or propaganda, they know that the motion picture within its own field of entertainment may be directly responsible for spiritual or moral progress, for higher types of social life, and for much correct thinking.

During the rapid transition from silent to talking pictures they have realized the necessity and the opportunity of subscribing to a Code to govern the production of talking pictures and of re-acknowledging this responsibility.

On their part, they ask from the public and from public leaders a sympathetic understanding of their purposes and problems and a spirit of cooperation that will allow them the freedom and opportunity necessary to bring the motion picture to a still higher level of wholesome entertainment for all the people.

General Principles

1. No picture shall be produced that will lower the moral standards of those who see it. Hence the sympathy of the audience should never be thrown to the side of crime, wrongdoing, evil or sin.

2. Correct standards of life, subject only to the requirements of drama and entertainment, shall be presented.

3. Law, natural or human, shall not be ridiculed, nor shall sympathy be created for its violation.

Particular Applications

I. Crimes Against the Law
These shall never be presented in such a way as to throw sympathy with the crime as against law and justice or to inspire others with a desire for imitation.

1. Murder

a. The technique of murder must be presented in a way that will not inspire imitation.

b. Brutal killings are not to be presented in detail.

c. Revenge in modern times shall not be justified.

2. Methods of Crime should not be explicitly presented.

a. Theft, robbery, safe-cracking, and dynamiting of trains, mines, buildings, etc., should not be detailed in method.

b. Arson must subject to the same safeguards.

c. The use of firearms should be restricted to the essentials.

d. Methods of smuggling should not be presented.

3. Illegal drug traffic must never be presented.

4. The use of liquor in American life, when not required by the plot or for proper characterization, will not be shown.

II. Sex
The sanctity of the institution of marriage and the home shall be upheld. Pictures shall not infer that low forms of sex relationship are the accepted or common thing.

1. Adultery, sometimes necessary plot material, must not be explicitly treated, or justified, or presented attractively.

2. Scenes of Passion

a. They should not be introduced when not essential to the plot.

b. Excessive and lustful kissing, lustful embraces, suggestive postures and gestures, are not to be shown.

c. In general passion should so be treated that these scenes do not stimulate the lower and baser element.

3. Seduction or Rape

a. They should never be more than suggested, and only when essential for the plot, and even then never shown by explicit method.

b. They are never the proper subject for comedy.

4. Sex perversion or any inference to it is forbidden.

5. White slavery shall not be treated.

6. Miscegenation (sex relationships between the white and black races) is forbidden.

7. Sex hygiene and venereal diseases are not subjects for motion pictures.

8. Scenes of actual child birth, in fact or in silhouette, are never to be presented.

9. Children's sex organs are never to be exposed.

III. Vulgarity
The treatment of low, disgusting, unpleasant, though not necessarily evil, subjects should always be subject to the dictates of good taste and a regard for the sensibilities of the audience.

IV. Obscenity
Obscenity in word, gesture, reference, song, joke, or by suggestion (even when likely to be understood only by part of the audience) is forbidden.

V. Profanity
Pointed profanity (this includes the words, God, Lord, Jesus, Christ - unless used reverently - Hell, S.O.B., damn, Gawd), or every other profane or vulgar expression however used, is forbidden.

VI. Costume
1. Complete nudity is never permitted. This includes nudity in fact or in silhouette, or any lecherous or licentious notice thereof by other characters in the picture.

2. Undressing scenes should be avoided, and never used save where essential to the plot.

3. Indecent or undue exposure is forbidden.

4. Dancing or costumes intended to permit undue exposure or indecent movements in the dance are forbidden.

VII. Dances
1. Dances suggesting or representing sexual actions or indecent passions are forbidden.

2. Dances which emphasize indecent movements are to be regarded as obscene.

VIII. Religion
1. No film or episode may throw ridicule on any religious faith.

2. Ministers of religion in their character as ministers of religion should not be used as comic characters or as villains.

3. Ceremonies of any definite religion should be carefully and respectfully handled.

IX. Locations
The treatment of bedrooms must be governed by good taste and delicacy.

X. National Feelings

1. The use of the Flag shall be consistently respectful.

2. The history, institutions, prominent people and citizenry of other nations shall be represented fairly.

XI. Titles
Salacious, indecent, or obscene titles shall not be used.

XII. Repellent Subjects
The following subjects must be treated within the careful limits of good taste:
1. Actual hangings or electrocutions as legal punishments for crime.
2. Third degree methods.
3. Brutality and possible gruesomeness.
4. Branding of people or animals.
5. Apparent cruelty to children or animals.
6. The sale of women, or a woman selling her virtue.
7. Surgical operations.

Re: [Night 1]: Film Noir.

Image
Searching the office for clues, the investigators found some old case files in a desk drawer next to an empty bottle of scotch. Maybe that could explain the rambling incoherence of the tale they presented. This is what they said:

She looked so sad, sittin' in that chair and realizing all her hopes and dreams were quickly being turned into sadness and regrets. That's a hard thing to watch anyone go through, much less her, this bright and beautiful young woman. Her future, her possibilities, she was watching it all disappear as I told her we couldn't get those diamonds back. Sitting there with her, I thought my heart was going to melt and fall right out of my chest. “They were my mother's jewels. They were all I had.”

I tried calmin' her down, something I ain't really known for. “Look Miss Bolin, you know I'd love to help ya out here. But you ain't seen the faces of these crooks, you've given me no suspects, and you just told me those jewels are probably halfway to Switzerland by now. There just isn't much I can do.” Like I said, I ain't really known for my reassuring personality.

She caught her breath suddenly between sniffles, and a new life passed through her eyes. “What if I told you, these aren't just any diamonds. I've got a one-of-a-kind jewel, ain't nothing else like it in the whole world, and I've got a few pictures of it right here.”

I reclined back in my chair, my stonefaced impression slowly giving way to a sly grin. “Then I'd say that's something we can work with, Miss.”

The suspect didn’t leave much of a trail.

What he did do was leave his hat.

It sat in a mud puddle, mud ebbing and flowing over the brim like a little tide. It would need Tide, whenever the laundry people got ahold of it.

“That’s his hat,” she said, but I thought this too convenient. Without saying anything, I bent down and picked it up. When the rain washed away the mess on the tag, I found the inscription smudged.

“It was somebody’s all right,” I said. “Let’s go.”

We sought shelter in Skinny Pete’s, a place known for loud music and loud informants. I found Alison. She knew something, I was sure.

“This hat,” I said, “does it remind you of anyone?”

She didn’t say anything. She just raised an eye toward a man in the corner.

Logan.

I remembered that mustache. And he was wet.

I made my move.

And then the zombie-ninja-dinosaurs (who were also the worlds greatest detectives. because FUCK YOU BATMAN!) took over the world, and it became a zone of danger.

Or even a... DANGER ZONE, if you will.

Day 1: The Naked City.

Image

"Where should we go?" Enygma Eve asked.

"The offices!" everyone shouted.

The detectives raced to their automobiles. Vomps hopped into the sidecar of Matt's motorcycle. Metalmarsh enjoyed her hovercraft. Roxy was speedy in her classic coupe. But all were rushing. The first one to the PI's office might get an advantage.

Arriving at the appropriate building, the detectives raced to park. However, several men carrying a sheet of window glass slowed their efforts.

Pushing and shoving, they made it up the stairs and burst forth into the office, spilling onto one another.

The furniture had all been removed. Not one detail remained in the entire office room.

"Wait a minute," Hedgeowl sniffed. "I smell something weird."

"Now that you mention it," Kate agreed.

Spacedaisy threw open the door to the coat closet. A body slumped out. The body of Jules Dassin.

Who killed the famed Film Noir director? Why was his body in the office of a Private Investigator?

The detectives received the missive. They stood around it, reading and digesting the information. Alliances would be formed. Friendships would be tested. Bonds (and bones) would be broken. Cigarettes would be smoked. Booze would be imbibed. And then imbibed. And then imbibed. And then...

Hedgeowl grabbed her trusty magnifying glass. Lizzy made sure she had her briefcase full of gadgets. Vomps grabbed a pizza. Kate pocketed a fountain pen. S~V~S considered a notepad before opting for a camera. All the detectives were ready.
