Thanks to you both. That means a lot and I really appreciate it  .

Now I can go back into semi-retirement for a bit with a good feeling. Don't expect me to play any big games for a while, work doesn't allow me to keep up in the early stages of the game.
Semi-retirement is acceptable. No one needs to retire and never come back, that's silly and a little too dramatic for my taste. I lost my job and moved back in 2012 and my life totally changed, and I had no room in it for Mafia... so I took a break. No big goodbyes, just "no time right now" and I was gone for a bit. Then, when my life had stabilized, I came back.

Never goodbye... just "smell ya later". :)

Re: Arkham Mafia [Night 8]

Holy Vengeance

Image
Jean-Paul Valley was a man who lived without doubt. Since conception, he had been subjected to The System, a rigorous regimen of mental and physical brainwashing, training, and enhancement by the Order of St Dumas. Now, he was Azrael, a vengeful angel against the baser aspects of the world. When he donned his red and gold armour, and wore the red mask and cloak, he wrought God's will upon criminals as the Angel of Death.

Tonight, his target was DFaraday. Azrael had been following him for twenty minutes through the streets of Gotham, and DFaraday was getting more and more nervous, sensing that something was wrong. Azrael smirked under his mask when he saw DFaraday's distress, knowing it was more than well-founded.

He decided to end the game, leaping down from a second-storey rooftop and landing with a pavement-cracking crash that knocked DFaraday from his feet. When he saw Azrael standing over him, his eyes widened. "Please, I have money, I'll pay you TRIPLE what your employer is paying!"

Azrael laughed, drawing a flaming sword from his belt. "God is my employer, scum, and his payment is the everlasting bliss of my soul in His presence! Can you match the price?"

"Valley!" Batman's voice echoed down the alley as the Caped Crusader landed silently from a nearby rooftop. "This is not the way! He needs to go to prison!"

"This one is beyond mortal judgment, Batman!" cried Azrael, his eyes flashing with religious frenzy as he raised his sword. "The Devil will decide his fate now!"

Batman rushed forward, throwing batarangs which simply skipped off Azrael's thick armour, and he was unable to stop the Sword of Sin from executing DFaraday where he lay in the filthy alley.
DFaraday has been lynched. He was Maroni. It is now Night 9. You have 23 hours to get your PMs in. If they are all in early, the Night may be shortened.

Re: Arkham Mafia [Day 7]

Last Laugh

Image
sprityo held his gun tightly as he leaned around the corner in the condemned community centre. After hours of poring over the reams of evidence surrounding the Joker's death, he had come to the disturbing conclusion that the psychopath's sick games weren't over. The clues had led him here, where several rare chemicals had been delivered to the name 'Joe Kerr'... the Joker had been building something.

He froze when he heard chuckling echoing down the dark hallway. Carefully, he crept forward, and saw a dim light shining from underneath a door. He eased forward, listening, and wrinkling his nose at the odd smell coming out from underneath. Taking a deep breath, he shouldered his way through the door, and was shocked to see a large group of regular-looking folks, at least twenty, staring at him with twisted grins on their faces, and a greenish haze hung in the air.

"GCPD!" he shouted. "Nobody move!"

Then the laughter started. Howling like insane hyenas, the crowd rushed at him as one. He was able to fire off a couple of bullets before they overcame him, tearing him to pieces and roaring with uncontrolled laughter the whole time.
sprityo has been lynched. He was Cop #1, a true blue member of the GCPD. It is now Night 7, you have 23 hours to send in your PMs.

Re: Arkham Mafia [Day 5]

Bat, Interrupted
Image
Batman crouched on a third-floor ledge across from the Tadashi Building, eyes trained through a heat-detecting scanner at the second floor. He could see several people moving around inside, their bodies glowing red against the neutral blue backdrop. One body lay unmoving on the ground, a much cooler temperature than the rest. Batman narrowed his eyes. Murderers... he thought in disgust, and leapt out into the air, easily tossing a grappling rope and swinging across above the quiet street.

Stealthily sliding in through an ajar window, he turned on his sonic radar and began listening to the men on the floor below.

"Ha! He wasn't so tough after all!"

"Yeah, I thought this guy was s'posed to be some sorta supervillain or somethin'!"

"Nah, he was just a psycho 'sall. Nothin' super goin' on here, unless his power is super-bleedin'!"

"Creepy bastard. At least we can let Falcone know he can breathe a little easier..."

A scuffling noise behind Batman surprised him, and he spun to see two thugs, guns trained on him. His hand went for his batarangs, but one thug started to squeeze the trigger, and he relaxed his hand. "Well well well, what do we have here? The Bat himself!" Without looking behind him, he called out to a third thug. "Vinnie! Go tell the boss what we got here!" Vinnie took another frightened look at Batman, and nodded and scampered away.

"So, Batman," the thug taunted. "Any last words?"

Just then, a small red light began to flash on Batman's wrist, and he gritted his teeth. "No..." He looked up to the ceiling. "Not him. Not now."

"Who-" the thug began to speak, but a red and blue blur crashed through the ceiling and swept up the two thugs before they could react. Batman turned and ran through the door and out over a railing, leaping down the the second floor, but by the time he had landed, all the thugs were tied up in some loose cable, struggling in confusion. Floating above them, almost godlike, was Superman.

"I was just passing by," he said, his voice strong and virtuous. "Looked like you could use a hand."

"I had it handled," snapped Batman angrily.

Superman raised his eyebrows. "Are you sure? Those two guys-"

"I had the situation under control!" Batman cut him off. "I could have used them, tracked them back to the man in charge - this could have been a huge break in the case!" He glared at Superman through the holes in his cowl.

Superman shook his head in mild exasperation. "You never thank me." With that, he flew off in a streak into the night, leaving Batman standing over a dead sabie12 and some struggling thugs, police sirens drawing near.
sabie12 has been lynched. She was Victor Zsasz. It is now Night 5. You have 24 hours to submit your PMs.

Drive-by Execution
Image
bea left the Concert Hall, and looked to the sky. The moon was hidden behind thick grey clouds, and she could feel the rain drizzling down her cheeks. Typical Gotham weather, she thought, putting up an umbrella and beginning her trek down the street. She paused on a street corner, and picked up a newspaper from the covered stand. The headline had caught her eye: Black Mask evades police dragnet!

Her eyes tracked down to a smaller headline on the lower half of the page. Three more gunned down in Mob violence - Maroni named as suspect! She shook her head, frowning, and the newsie spoke up. "Hey, this ain't the Gotham Public Library - ya gotta pay to read!"

Just then, squealing tires caught their attention. bea turned, expecting to see a traffic accident, but instead she saw a man leaning out the car window with a Tommy gun pointed her way. She tried to turn and run, but the man opened fire, riddling her and the newsie with bullets, and leaving them bleeding into the muddy street as the car drove away.

bea has been killed by the Maroni family. It is now Day 5.

Re: Arkham Mafia [Day 2]

ROOK TAKES PAWN
Image

Nerolunar was jolted awake roughly when he was thrown to the dusty wooden floor. For a moment, he thought he had fallen out of bed, but the cold and goopy hands that picked him up like a rag doll jolted him back to reality. Clayface! Nero's eyes went wide as the horrifying mud monstrosity brought him close to its rough caricature of a face.

"Your boss has what I need, and you're gonna give it up, capiche?" Muddy droplets spattered on Nero's face as Clayface went on angrily. "I don't wanna do this the hard way, I just need that formula! And you're gonna give it to me, one way or another!" He carried Nero over to a gaping hole in the wooden floor, and grabbed a wire that hung down from the abandoned warehouse's ceiling, chuckling as he wrapped it around Nero's neck.

"Please!" cried Nerolunar. "Maroni don't tell me nuthin'! I'm just," he gasped as he looked back over the edge of the broken floor. "I'm just a hired gun, for Pete's sake!"

"That's really too bad for you, then, isn't it?" laughed Clayface sadistically. "Maybe you should have been more of a go-getter!"

"Clayface!" An unmistakable voice from the shadows across the room rang out, as Batman leapt in, in battle-stance. "Let him go!"

"Whaddya think I was gonna do, Bats?" Clayface chuckled as he nudged Nerolunar off the edge. Batman's arm shot out, releasing a sharp batarang that severed the makeshift noose around Nero's neck before it could go taut. The batarang flew out and wide, before veering back and burying itself in Clayface's eye. Clayface roared and stumbled backward, and Batman rushed forward, grappling gun in hand to try to save Nerolunar, but it was too late. Nero plummeted down two storeys and was impaled, flayed, and shredded when he landed in a large bin of scrap metal and broken panes of glass.

Batman landed in a crouch at the edge of the hole and cursed, pounding a gloved fist on the floor. He turned his head with gritted teeth and glared at Clayface.

"Aw, don't be upset, Bats, the guy was scum!" Clayface backed up a few steps. "Maroni's hired gun, you heard it as well as I did!" With that, he grinned and fell backward out the window. Batman rushed forward, but he could see no sign of Clayface in the mud several storeys below, and the rain that continued to pound Gotham quickly erased all trace of him.

Nerolunar has been lynched. He was Tony Zucco, a member of the Maroni family.
