Re: 2016 Game of Champions - Beach [Night 2]

While I'm inclined to agree llama, I'm not as much in agreement with the claim that cheerleader voted to save Bea. It easily could of just been done to fuck with us, assuming it was a civvie vs civvie lynch.
That said, I'm not gonna say it makes Bea look bad, but it definitely doesn't make her look good.

I would rather bea have been lynched than Soneji. I thought Boomslang made a good point on her. Did nobody care that Soneji suspected sig?
I do agree that sig is suspicious
I do agree that Soneji was not a good lynch
why is this connected?

The only reason I could think for them not to do that would be the WIFOM factor, which we can never rule out.
well, this implies baddies knew that half were going to hatch and half were going to the beach. I know personally, i didn't put that together and figured it'd be like felt were the one that gets the most votes picks were we as a group goes.
It does. There was a bit of discussion about what the poll meant (I had no idea until others mentioned it), so I would guess that there was some level of awareness on the part of the baddies.
you know, that's actually really interesting... wish I had access to the other thread so i could compare if there were any weird location switches when that was brought up.

The flaw in the logic imo is the following:
if everyone has 20 candies and of those 20, ten of them are are sour, if you pick ten out of the bag and none of them are sour, you can't conclude the bag has no sour candy.
To conclude that I'm bad because I pulled 2 sour candies but other people pulled 4 out of a random bag doesn't say anything about how many candies are in either my bag nor everyone else's.
for the record, I love sour candy, I don't, however, love when sour candies start killing people.

There's a little more to it. I initially noticed Soneji for his avoidance of mentioning Macdougall, even when he was the central topic of discussion. The meta comment combined with that observation to form my suspicion, as I think baddies often forget to talk about one another.
Mac didn't really talk about anyone except the players who voted for him.

Soneji didn't post all that much in the Day 1 thread either.

I don't find it that surprising that one quiet player did not mention another quiet player.
before I forgot, this isn't true. Surprised llama didn't point this out actually because he's the one i'm quoting.
According to a post from night one he made,
the players who mac talked to that day or quoted by name that day were Golden, priz, Wilgy, DH, Boom, Quin, Sig, Epi, MM, llama, juliets, me, LC, BR, John Coltrane, and Sorsha. The players who talked about or quoted mac by name were Priz, Quin, Epi, Mm, llama, juliets, Professor, BR, LC, Myself, Wilgy, Golden, Scotty, Sig, DH, Boom, John Colltrane, Sorsha, and Lorab

The players who neither talked about nor talk to him bea. bwt, Soneji, Floyd, and timmer

Made, I have two things for you in looking over your posts. First, can you explain what you meant in the underlined portion?
Made wrote:Ok, so I do not know SVS's meta but she's reading really lowkey to me. Like from the games i remember she's been very much at the forefront of baddie hunting and theory making and stuff and things, but day 1 and so far during beach day, she seems to be throwing ideas in thread with relatively isolated back and forth. I didn't look at her day 1 post ISO but she did have the same number of post as me during day 1 (31) which i felt i was personally lacking relative to my typical standard. Given it's probably has been like 2 years since I've played with her, I wanted to point this out.
Also, you said in another post that you didn't vote for Mac based on the meta analysis, that you had another case on him. Since you voted at the same time as the meta analysis was going on I assumed thats why you had voted him. What was that case or reason you voted for him if it wasn't that?

Finally, I mentioned it before but just a reminder, could you explain why you wanted us to look at people in the other thread?
Keyboard numbers don't all work so bear with me
[one]. I didn't see a lot of conversation with svs during day one, i just saw a lot of larger post with no real back and forth
2. he was reading funny to me, he said something along the lines of " voting priz ;} " and with that and a lack of content in other post I voted him.
3. I kinda responded to a variation of this question, but it's not that I'm like super interested in the other thread, It was 5 hours in essentially another day one and I wanted more discussion. To my credit, it worked, and most people answers the question. to quote svs
S~V~S wrote:
And I asked you because I wanted to hear your answer.
And further, I'd argue as a few other have that wanting to talk about the other thread isn't a sign of alignment. Infact, a baddie has no reason to talk about the other thread because they basically have access to it?
Actually, I'm gonna take this a step further: Excuse my tone, but i feel like the cases against me are kinda bull.

If you suspect of me having a weridly good memory and thing that points to my alignment, that's on you.
My question stims from information i can't know, so I asked. tbh, specific answers to that question could of even provided pretty good information because if you know what's going on in the other thread, you answer to the question has to be given with more discression that someone doesn't know.
Warning more memory incoming: the votes for Mac switched fast. It went from 5 votes on Wilgy to 5 votes on Mac in the time it took me to type my reason for voting Mac. This means that it wasn't a lost cause by the time Juliets, Myself, or LC voted. Does that clear any of us? no. But It doesn't provide a bad read of us. like Juliets said it's created a null read.

If you want to vote me for thinking the majority of the baddies are in the other thread, well fine. I think that's silly, frankly, but do you what you gotta do.
I'm not claiming that I shouldn't be questioned or taking heat, I just think the things i'm taking heat in unproportional amounts for silly reasons.

Going to reread everyone with vote records in mind and see where that leads me.

For our purposes here though I wouldn't vote for someone silenced so he's off the plate for me. (Why would a civ silence Golden? Makes me think the silencing power is a baddie).

Scotty - feeling good about Scotty and since I don't have his posts to go back to all I can do is say it's vibes. I did like his points about Quin, whether Quin is bad or not the points were insightful.

llama - I feel like I'm seeing the llama I saw in Felt, good llama. His early instincts were good there too which makes me pay attention to what he has to say about Soneji. He linked us to the baddie Mac game which showed Mac making the same kind of short choppy posts he was making in this game, thus solidifying my read. I won't be voting for llama unless something pretty radical happens here.

Metalmarsh - I was initially unsure about MM because he posted a lot at the beginning of the game that said nothing. I didn't consider him for a lynch because it seems like he often gets lynched early for this very thing. I feel like he has blossomed though starting with his posts about Mac's past games going through to when we split the thread.

S~V~S - I can't read S~V~S with a toot, she is too good at this for my meager powers. I haven't seen anything thats caused me any concern though. Her observation about Wilgy asking Golden about Monkey Island was right on point until we discovered the mafia had games on their role card at which point she conceded.

Prisoner - I wish I knew who Prisoner is to help me with my read. I haven't agreed with her on everything but that doesn't mean she is bad. She has been very involved and doesn't seem tentative about giving her opinion no matter whether they match the group or not. I tend to agree with llama who observed that Prisoner wouldn't have changed her opinion about Mac at the last minute if she were Mac's teammate. For now I have a positive reaction to Prisoner.

Made - Epi said he felt Made was working hard to not seem bad after having been bad in Felt. I don't know what he saw that led him to this conclusion (maybe if he's cheerleader he can tell us) though and just because Epi was good it doesn't mean Made is bad. I had an initial bad gut reaction when he wouldn't tell us the game he was from but I don't play in many closed games so maybe keeping what you know close to the vest is important. I wish S~V~S could remember more of why her feel for Made was bad. Right now he's a null read for me.

bea - only a few posts and aside from what S~V~S said the only thing I remember about bea is she was busy and is sick. Not much help here. Wish she had voted. Null read for me.

cheerleader - if this is really Epi's spirit, maybe he can put his two cents in to the discussion. I'm not sure how this entity worked in transistor but I'm probably going to go back to the game and see what I can glean. Given that it's not a person, if I have to default to someone because no one is striking me as particularly bad I could see voting for cheerleader. It really depends on how helpful s/he is.

Sonja, Boomslang, Coltrane - I'm lumping all of these guys together because I see them much the same way. Low posters, not offering much. I already talked about Booms and my observation that his posts so far don't seem engaged with the game compared to past games he's been in and I wasn't wild about his randomized vote on a day when there was plenty to look at and vote on. Soneji from my memory also has few posts and has that one post about meta being a crutch in the heat of the Mac lynch - not a good look. And Coltrane also hasn't participated much and was the last voter for Mac, potentially piling on as a teammate. I could vote for any of these three at the moment and may place a pressure vote on one of them today depending on how things go.

Hope I didn't forget anyone, if I did I'll catch them in a later post.
this one Juliets. Don't intend to vote here yet, but It just reads funny :/
Well, I don't really know what to say about this post. It's just my reads as of this morning of everyone in our beach side except Donna who we can't vote for. Was there something specific that struck you?

I won't fault a player for being attentive to these details, but I am noting it as curious that Made was so on top of this.

Another little detail that I am mildly pinged by is that Made has gone out of his way to invite questions in a few posts:

anyhow still catching up ama. [Ask Me Anything]

Linki- nvm lol... I agree SVS, I'll actually place my vote on bea for now.
Sometimes a baddie will want to overcompensate by appearing to be super open and welcoming, as a way to suggest they are ready to provide lots of content without actually doing it.
I was between classes so I wanted to get as much out of my time playing as possible through discussion
Prisoner 27385 wrote:The working theory in these GTH exercises is that baddies tend to name more good/civ reads, perhaps because they are nervous about calling out players who they know are town. This makes me look at Made more questioningly.
I feel like there is a flaw in this logic. As a counter question, if there's four baddies in this group, and everyone feels like the other group is badder, then how many baddies are in that group, and how many baddies are there over all?
Now I don't really need/particularly want an answer to that last question, but I do want to point to this post i made a bit ago:
Made wrote:But yeah, re my last message, basically the entirety of my attention (for the most part anyways) was focused on the people in the other group.

Re: 2016 Game of Champions - Beach

also, wanted to throw this in, the thing that put me furhter on the Juliet on the edge for me is her tone in the most recent post that went through after SVS's post. It seems very like her meta yeah, but it just reads off to me.

k bye for real this time. If you see me reading thread tell me to go away

Bea- Baddie
Boom- Slight Baddie (but i'm betting on quiet meta atm)
Cheerleader- Epignosis
Golden- Civvie
John Coltrane- I really don't have a read on this person... like i don't think i remember a single post from him all game....and they haven't posted today. So Civvie. maybe baddie team mate would be like yo wtf are you doing
Juliets- Civvie but nearest baddie of all civvie reads
MM- Civvie
Priz- Civvie
Llama- Civvie
Scotty- Slight Civvie
Soneji- Civvie whose I have a gut baddie read on

Re: 2016 Game of Champions - Beach

But yeah, re my last message, basically the entirety of my attention (for the most part anyways) was focused on the people in the other group. Like even ones that hadn't gotten heat yet, like Sorsha I kind wanted to discuss today. Needless to say, the beach has definitely thrown me off balance. The only people even on my radar N1 here were SVS and Soneji.
But enough whining, we're here. Let's get a baddie out of it.

[warning subjectivity incoming]
TImmer went in and no one really vocally disagreed...uhh....Wilgy was kinda backing himself into a corner and I think tried to implicate me in said corner. Quin had strong opinions on someone. Sig was posting more, but I can't really recall the content.
OH But i do remember another number that entertained me. Upon death, Mac had 33 post, more than myself, Svs, sig, bea donna, Prof, etcetc.

Marmot, are you totally impressed by Mades memory?
For context I'm a math major. Numbers are fun and stuff. Sadly, I do not remember how many post MM had, but pretty sure it was above both of us....maybe next to Llamas? don't quote me on that one tho. Pretty sure Quin was above me. And the list was alphabetical for ties so I listed me over you even tho we had the same post number :noble:

I want to say this check was after timmer showed up because he was at like 22 when i checked, the next after both of us. Hearsay, yeah, but i'm pretty sure i'm right. Llama and juliet were some where between myself/you and Dh/Priz

Also I have been on break for months and am still somewhat ambivalent about Mafia, lol. so there is that re post count.
I don't, I just checked it right after the lynch and noticed we had similar count with a giant drop off after us and Dh/Priz already at like 100 each

Re: 2016 Game of Champions - Beach

And re: Soneji, I feel like if Soneji were bad, he wouldn't of made the argument he made when he made it. Like if i remember correctly, Soneji commented on Mac like late in day 1 after the giant vote switch happened, where a lynch of Mac seemed inevitable. It'd be a damn ballzy move to take such a strong stance on a teammate at that point imo. Bit of Wifom, yes, but I regardless feel like the average baddie wouldn't do this.

That said, i did also get a gut read on Soneji as a bit scummy when he originally made the comment, as an attempt of a baddie trying to gain brownie points off a civvie lynch. I feel better about that now.

Re: 2016 Game of Champions - Beach

Ok, so I do not know SVS's meta but she's reading really lowkey to me. Given it's probably has been like 2 years since I've played with her, I wanted to point this out.

anyhow still catching up ama.

Linki- nvm lol... I agree SVS, I'll actually place my vote on bea for now.

You would agree that it was successful in this instance though, yes?
Since Mac flipped mafia then yes. You didn't see me defend Mac did you? That was due to me recognizing it as a tool those people felt like using and not being familiar enough with Mac, I had no basis to agree or disagree with their assessments on his meta.
I didn't see you mention Mac at all, and I didn't see him mention you. Given the amount of discussion around him, that alone has me worried.
Why would I talk about a case based on meta, when I don't have familiarity with said persons meta? I only mention those that stand out to me personally and respond sometimes to general mafia discussion, nothing Mac said pinged me enough to talk about.
Well there were other cases on Mac. My own didn't stem from the meta discussion. Not to diminish the role of meta determining alignment of Mac, there was other things there.

I'm gonna piggy back on this: As a fun thought experiment, who do you think is going to be lynched in Hatch? Not who would you lynch, but who do you think would be?

In case you forgot:
DharmaHelper (1), Black Rock (3), Quin (8), Long Con (13), timmer (14), DrWilgy (16), sig (22), Professor Farnsworth (23), Sorsha (24), TheFloyd73 (26), LoRab (27) 39%

Personally I'd guess Sig but would deffo put LoRab in there as a toss up.
Who do you think is going to be lynched at the beach?
I feel like our group is more of a crap shoot of who comes up with a theory that sticks. I could see me, I could see you, but i feel like scotty is most vulnerable atm.
