Someone who read the scoring rules and realised that hair and makeup and costume isn’t going to do crap for me.

dunya wrote: Sun Jul 29, 2018 6:17 pm looking at his roster, i wouldn't bet on Golden winning, tbh. but that's just me.
I'd bet on me doing better with what I've got than any of the undrafted stuff though. If I'm betting on who wins I'm betting on timmer.

It really depends on who goes out early. For example, I'm feeling reasonably confident that I'll do well at the Globes. I'm feeling far less confident that I'll do well at some of the latter awards shows, but what if someone who would goes out at something like the Globes? This is what's really intriguing here to me.

I have a similar strategy to DH - I'm going for technical categories - hair, makeup, song, sound editing, special effects. Really the only acting category I'm competing for the win in is best actress.

I wish I could drop Julian Dennison at this point but c'est la vie. Before the Deadpool reviews came out I thought he had a wildcard shot at Best supporting actor. With a Taika Waititi script he would have.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread

The funny thing is... in Fantasy Football I think the key isn't the draft, it's the transactions. That's what determines whether you win.

Here, I'm thinking maybe it's the opposite. The exception would have been if you could drop or trade something already open.. .for example, now that I know I have the most box office, would I risk dropping or trading some of that box office knowing someone else could pick it up? (Not advocating for this btw, just an interesting parallel to fantasy football in my mind).

And of course, I could be completely wrong and Jay, DH, dunya and timmer could be the last 4 standing :p

Hey Golden, drop that Movie
I think not. Movies like that don’t have to be amazing to get a tonne of makeup, costume etc nominations or wins, and i still think it’s a good bet for best actress. The trailer looked basically exactly how I expected.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread

If I had my time over I might have picked up BlackKklansman, but at the time I felt like a Spike Lee joint can't really win with the big awards. I'm beginning to feel like I was wrong, and this might be Jay's to win.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread

Yeah, I picked oceans 8 because I figured it for a solid 80-100m even if it flopped.

I considered mindy kaling but only if she makes it into wreck it Ralph, which appears uncertain.

Blanchett still has 17 other movies though.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread

I have a suggestion.

If any person who is playing is concerned that anything is against the rules, just PM timmer. Timmer will either straighten you out about the rules or straighten the thread out and fix any errors, and it will avoid any hurt feelings. I'm quite confident no one intends to break any rules. In fact:
dunya wrote: Thu Jun 07, 2018 3:12 pmI thought it was released before May and had no idea Rico had chosen it before.
This is what I assumed had happened, and I'm sure anything done against the rules would be similarly a mistake.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread

To me it doesn't matter what the rule is, but it is what it is - we should not lobby for it to change midflight.

Re: Fantasy Movie League - Transactions Thread

I think that would be equivalent to claiming an award for a movie released in April, which has been ruled out. So probably no.

no. actors and actresses are locked into YOUR roster if you have picked them and their first movie of the May-December season rolls in. meaning you can't drop them if they didn't score well (same with movies). I don't believe they are ineligible to be chosen, only that I can't claim points for any movie that was released before I picked them.
Wow, would be rough if annette bening won an award for the Seagull, huh.

I had thought it was the same way as Rico, good to know.

OOF, a little quicker on the draw here and you'dve gotten some of that hotly contested Deadpool 2 money. She's great as Cable.
Is it possible to pick someone up who is already in a movie, just miss out on the cut and awards for that movie?

I assumed once they are in something it's over.
