Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

I received my goodies today! Thank you Lunalee for the tasty peppermint patties and the cute ornament. My girls are napping right now, but I'm sure they will love it. Interestingly enough, I consider myself more of a cat person than a dog person, and I am a Pisces, so the cat and fish fit me perfectly.

IMPORTANT:

If you are signing up for the exchange, please list any allergies and/or food and drink that you do not consume. This will help prevent us from killing anyone in real life. Also, if there's anything that you strongly dislike and do not want to receive, please list that too.

I will ask for allergy info and dislikes when collecting your addresses via PM.

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Posting this straight from the PM I just sent out:
Here's how it works:

1) Go to the Holiday Goodie Exchange thread and tell us that you're in. For now, we'll set a deadline of Sunday, December 1st for signing up. As of the sending of this PM, we already have six people participating!

2) On Monday, December 2nd, I will send a PM to everyone who signed up and ask them to provide a mailing address for their Secret Santa to send their goodies to. Please send me your addresses within 48 hours so we can keep things rolling along. If you've already signed up and want to send me your address in advance, that works too!

3) By Friday, December 6th, my goal is to have randomized the participant list, assign Secret Santas, and send you all the name of the person you are sending goodies to.

4) Once you have the name and address of the person you're sending to, you can figure out what you want to send them. In the past, we've suggested a $10-20 limit. We understand that this is fun and should not be a financial burden on anyone participating (and shipping rates aren't always cheap!). You can send something that you know they are interested in (the Interrogation Room is a great place for researching some folks), or you can send something with local flavor. If you're really stumped, you can always reach out to me and I can ask questions for you so you don't blow your cover.

5) Purchase and send your goodies.

6) Wait. This is always the most anguishing part.

7) Check the Holiday Goodie Exchange thread to see what other people get from their Secret Santas. We usually try to post a picture of the goodies we receive but a words-only post works fine too!

8) When you receive goodies from your Secret Santa, please share a pic or explain what you got in the Holiday Goodie Exchange thread.

9) Come back and do it again the following year!

There is no pressure to participate, so if this just isn't your year, that's okay. We still love you because you're part of this community. If you have any questions, send them my way!

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Do you have a tracking number for it or does that not work when crossing international borders? Epi has the list of who sent to whom but I’ve been trying to track it based on the posts in this thread so I could try to guess who I might receive from, POE style.

The bummer is really on your side, seeing as you spent time and money on something that vanished. I don’t think anyone will be too bent out of shape to not receive something. Better to give anyway, right?

Image

Tasty snacks (I'm currently eating the pretzels, because pretzel chunks), a card game I'm sure @Boomslang and I will play and get mad at each other for winning at and keep playing, a Pennsylvania Dutch cookbook with old-timey recipes that I'm super stoked about, and a lovely handwritten letter explaining it all, as well as some fun historical and etymological information about G-Man's neck of the woods.

Thank you so much!
Woo hoo! I’m glad they finally got there. I almost have my USPS tracking number memorized now. I sent that stuff on Saturday. Maybe I should have just hand-delivered it!

Dutch Blitz can turn into a nasty game, so have fun! I was hoping to put something more personal in your gift but, unlike last year, the Interrogation Room wasn’t much help. All anyone seemed to ask you about was your favorite Zelda characters.

It must be karma that I kept you waiting so long and I, in turn, am still waiting for my care package to arrive. Is anyone else still waiting? Seems like most of them are accounted for.

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Image

So this all came three weeks ago but I've been either too busy or shamefully lazy to post this picture. Epignosis sent me an assortment of goodies. It includes:

-Dark chocolate cream-filled wafer sticks
-German chocolate
-A book about science and the Bible
-Some fancy-sounding pasta (which I may need some tips on preparing)
-Mint-chocolate jelly

He also included a very lovely, personal note. Epi's penmanship is exquisite. :nicenod:

I haven't tried any of the goodies yet. Any recommendations on what to eat the mint-chocolate jelly with?

Thank you, Epi!

Yay! Glad you got the goods Sig!

In case anyone is wondering, I didn't send Sig any treats because we're both from PA and all the stuff I would have thought of already has distribution across the east coast. Thankfully, Sig's time in the Interrogation Room provided me with some ideas to work with.

Merry Christmas!

The package I sent vis the postal service reached a distribution center in the same city as the delivery address. Instead of routing it from there to its destination, it got sent to another distribution center two states away.

This is why the US postal service is failing, folks. :disappoint:

Re: Holiday Goodie Exchange

Coming up with food to include is going to be tough. Some of PA's most recognizable brand names are already distributed nationally (Hershey's, Peeps, Tastykake, Heinz) and others are even distributed to just about half of the country (Utz, Herr's, Snyder's). I'm not sure how well shoofly pie, scrapple, Lebanon bologna, or apple butter travel.
