My epic challenge was to last four days writing wacky Old Spice-themed posts. :P Actually, I never found out. I was told that my epic challenge would be sent to me once I was recruited. I totally forgot to ask our hosts what my epic challenge was after being recruited to Epi's team.
We discussed your epic challenge like this... "Oh shit! We forgot to give him that." "He's dying tonight anyways, meh"
:P

No harm, no foul. I completely forgot about it as well.

N/A- you'll have to get answers out of the other two for these days.
Ricochet wrote: -- What item did you give and to whom on D/N10 (if you did)?
The Mace of Justice. On Position #2, my item gives were negative items. It had a temporary positive power but a negative side-effect. I gave it to aapje because I thought it was curious that he hadn't died yet. The Mace of Justice would have allowed him to erase up to 15 lynch poll votes against him. The negative side-effect is that any votes erased with the Mace of Justice would be applied as secret votes the next day. Aapje would have thought it merely a vote eraser but it was really just a vote shifter.

Ricochet wrote:-- Who did you power corrupt on D/N11 (and what was the corruption) (if you did)?
I attempted to corrupt Nutella's power but I was blocked.
Ricochet wrote:-- What item did you give and to whom on D/N12 (if you did)?
I believe this was Position 3, a positive item give. I attempted to send Epi an invisibility cloak that would have protected him from NK's. The thing about items is that they aren't automatically used. Epi would have needed to receive it and could have used it N13. But we were both killed that night, so it didn't really matter.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (End Game)

Well done you sneaky, sneaky winners.

Fun fact: In my initial role, the Jilted Lover, I selected DFaraday to be my lover. My Epic Challenge was that if my lover and I both survived past Night 7, we could have won with each other's team and we would have had permanent BTSC. I picked DFaraday because he's got a decent history of flying under the radar and making it deep into games. I was freaking out when people started eyeing him up Day 1 and Day 2 for this very reason.

Even more fun fact: I chose DFaraday as my lover. When I subbed back in, I replaced Bass 2.0, who subbed in for DFaraday. I ended up being my former role's lover! On Night 3, I would have had temporary BTSC with my lover but I got killed before that came to be. Oh well.

Fun game, you hosty hosts. Sorry my participation was limited. With the baby due in almost exactly a month, I must step away from playing for a while. Don't worry though...

Be serious, man. All Old Spice fragrances make you feel and smell like a man but they don't make your arms super-long. That's just a cheeky TV special effect designed to appeal to immature young men who aren't yet confident enough in their masculinity to use traditional and exotic Old Spice fragrances.

Image
Why do you have to ruin my fun?
Image
Because I have more important things to do with my time than argue with you. For instance, my to-do list for today includes hand-carving a gazebo out of a single redwood tree, perfecting a French braid, obtaining the rarest cacao beans from the indigenous Tapirapé people of the Amazon rainforest to make a romantic chocolate fondu, and making my mind up between Nutella and reywaS. Don't you have other things to do?

Hello players. As well as hosts, non-players, bots, and the mighty sequoias of the redwood forests. As you can see, I have returned. And it's not because I forgot my hat. Actually, my wildly exaggerated ego and its ability to create cheeky ways to post in mafia games makes creating such a garment an impossibility. As when all hatmakers see the correct fabric pattern that would fit my inflated head, they cry both tears of joy and total confusion until they pass out but are delicately caught by their own memories of my memorably unmatched posts.

No, the real reason that I'm back is I have been on a campaign to catch up on what happened after my tragic and premature first death while also infomring the people of this dual-color-scheme-optioned forum that we call The Syndicate how they or the men in their life can use Old Spice to smell as fresh as the freshest smelling places on the internet. Along with being educational, this reading/information campaign carries an entertainment value that is second to none. I know because I write them and have a strong memory of them in my brain. If you'd like a sneak peek, try staring through my striking brown eyes and looking at them as I currently remember them in my brain.
Image
While you're helplessly lost in my seas of brown warmth and satisfaction, let me take this time to tell you that I see why people are suspicious of both Birdwithteeth and Tranq. I'd go into more detail but I am still something like 15 pages behind and need to keep reading.

Hello players. How are you? Fantastic. Does your role look like me? No. Can it smell like me? Yes. Should you vote for position 5? I don't know. Do you like Children of Serenity who are unkillable or capable of restarting days and corrupting powers? Do you want Brothers of the Inner Eye with triple votes, handing out powers, punishing people, learning targets and protecting people? Of course you do.

Swan dive!

Hello players. Indeed, in a past life I was a jilted lover. But now I am filled with a new kind of love especially for the ladies but bromances are okay too for the G-Man because men appreciate the smell of Old Spice on other men too. Man-friends don't let man-friends use lady-scented body wash. No, you see man-friends encourage man-friends to smell like the man they were born to smell like. And that smell is Old Spice. While you're being honest, please tell me where I can find Day 2 and Day 9 lynch poll data. If you're not too flushed with intimidation or excitement after doing so, please kindly direct me to position poll data for Night 9. Doing so will help me help you just like Old Spice helps you smell like a man and not lady-scented body wash. Now please excuse me while I continue to catch up. Without my towel.

Hello, players, look at your role, now back to me, now back at your role, now back to me. Sadly, your role isn’t mine, but if your role stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, it could smell like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a forum with the role your role could smell like. What’s in your signature, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with a winner's badge for that game you're in. Look again, the winners badge is now diamonds. Anything is possible when your role smells like Old Spice and not a lady. I’m on a horse.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Night 5)

Fun fact- I just found the post where I blew up on ObscureAllure back on the boarded-up STV forums; the one I referenced in my Joker post. Turns out I was wrong- it was Gameshow Mafia and I was a civvie. That explains why I was so fired up at her. I thought it was X-Men Mafia when I was a baddie. Oh well. I was wrong.

I saved the monster post in a Notepad file. Still had it on my flashdrive. Oh the things that we keep!

Reading it, I fear I weaved back and forth across the line between righteous indignation and butt-hurt. There was a legitimate problem rotting out the STV mafia community from the inside but that post reminded me why I exiled myself.

That was almost six years ago. Time flies. :sigh:

I feel like Golden is playing similar to how he started out in HSK actually, sparring with Epignosis and all. He just took it... a little further this time. I've only seen Golden bad in one game, when he subbed back into Economics, and he played nothing like he is here. He was calm and collected and attracted no attention.

I still have nightmares of that game, between G-Man masquerading as The Joker and Golden the super secret most bad of all the baddies, lurking in the shadows. :scared:
What was wrong with my Joker posts? I loved making those.
Lol, I loved them, I was just making a joke, since The Joker appearing in nightmares saying some of the stuff you posted in that game in his voice would be kinda creepy. :P

Okay but know that my vote switch has very little to do with any suspicion of Bass and I am in no way "flicking the booger" on you either. I'll vote to spread the vote out a little for science and to help keep Golden around for at least one more day.

Didn't think I'd be back but I made it back. I see this was said about me:

Ricochet wrote:G-Man's vote for TH seems a bit weak sauce for me, especially given that it's relatively fixed for the day, since he might have return. I get the "he's on my no-read list from which I intended to vote someone" more than the "let's test out if Speaker is genuine or ignorable". I've mentioned that it's highly unlikely the Speaker got to check and inform on his check in the same first Night of the game. When do we really test out what a messenger suspects? If he's spot on about TH being, let's say, a recruited baddie (aka the purest form of baddie at this point), he passes the test and receive eternal cred, and if he's wrong about TH being anything, we discret him, after just one night, for the rest of the game? This is even more interesting coming from G-Man who was Messenger in his last game.

All of the votes so far for him have pretty weak reasonings. Bubbles said nothing whatosever on the matter. MM also acts like the Speaker was sent from Heavens. Also @linki: aapje just came in fact with way better reads for suspecting TH, nevertheless all those were not reasons any of TH's voters brought up so far for voting him.
This pretty much sums up how I feel about the TH votes. I find that remark he made to be brow raising, but not enough to merit a vote, gossip or not. TH is a strong player, and I am not ready to experiment on him just yet. I have not seen anything from my day one vote, Bullz, to alarm me so i doubt I will vote for him again today, although i plan to keep an eye on him. He plays a pretty seamless recruited game in my experience.

I think I will reread some of these peoples posts, but I am still really highly disturbed by Golden, tbh. It is like he's a pod person Golden, lol.

Linki @BWT, I did not vote for you, or particularly think you were bad Day One; why do you think I did?

VOTES TURNIP HEAD

This is a valid example of someone flicking the booger of responsibility onto the Speaker of Serenity. G-Man, the TH vote is yours -- either own it or drop it. Moreover, this logic disregards the very real possibility that the Speaker is merely hunching on Turnip and doesn't actually know anything. If the call for his lynch turns out ill-advised, that would say nothing about the Speaker other than "he/she called for the lynch of the wrong person".

Unless you think that player might have privileged information and is allowed by the hosts to exploit it in such an obvious manner as this. I don't think that.
So, yeah. I cast a mostly meaningless and lazy vote. I don't give much credence to any gossip role ever until they turn out to be consistently right. Gossip roles should be taken with a grain of salt. Really, I voted for Turnip Head because a) he was on my list of people for whom I have no feel yet and b) it created a three-way tie. I had to vote and clean up for the day at the office so I could make it to a doctor's appointment after work. Playing from 30,000 feet like I presently am, I'm keeping up with the thread but really only noting the big things. Kudos to those of you who can hit the micro-analysis but I have to play the macro-game this time around. That leaves me to be intentionally blendy by posting just enough to show I care but still mostly resigning myself to being a spectator.

If you prefer, I'd happily move my vote to someone else, so long as that someone else is not Golden the Coward ;) because his ballsy play on getting Epi killed gets him a free pass from me this day. There are probably a few other people I don't want to see lynched and most of them aren't even in the cross-hairs here.

Maybe they think they don't have to speak to that issue since the day was ended before most of those votes were even cast? :ponder:

Thoughts:

I'm not interested in either Bass or MP right now. Maybe I'm still a little hung up on getting a read on people. I still have no read on 13 different players. I'll probably vote for one of them.

The game quieted down substantially over the weekend. While I liked less content sitting there when catching up, it does hamper progress on the game. It still feels like a lot of people just aren't participating.

Not sure what to make of Dr. Wilgy. It's cute and all but it could also be a distraction. He's one of my 13.

Yay for 3-J sticking around. :)
Right - so since the day ended early (even though they had no idea it was happening at the time of their votes) they hold no responsilbility for them?

Ofc I disagree with your assessment.
Heh. Maybe I should have put that in sarcastic orange for effect? They obviously have to answer for their votes even if they don't count. I was providing a philosophical line of BS that might be attempted. I was not suggesting they are exempt from speaking their votes. Even though their votes didn't count, they are still on record. :nicenod:

You know what these recruitment games need? A theme song! I've been on a punk rock kick lately (real punk rock, none of this newfangled pop-punk nonsense) and when I heard this song driving to the grocery store, lyrics just started flowing. Hope you like it!

"I Wanna Be Recruited"

Pretty-pretty-pretty please someone pick me
I wanna be recruited
Joinin' a team sounds really good to me
I wanna be recruited

I might be very awesome, could be very skilled
Hurry hurry hurry before my role is killed
Just put me on your roster, you know I will be thrilled
Let's go oh oh oh oh

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 2)

My general thoughts:

It's a shame to lose Typh so soon. I hope he comes back for more games (especially when Secret Mafia 3 rolls around). I'm surprised how many people posted before anyone mentioned that Typhoony was one of the Sorcerer roles. Makes me wonder if some people aren't doing their homework after a night post. Seeing as Typh was of the Sorcerer clan, I hope he was the Windscout (death to all seemer powers!). It would be cool if he were none other than Azura or the Magnetarch as well.

Has anyone considered if all the shock and disbelief at Typh's early exit was the point in killing him? I mean, think like a baddie folks! I thought MP's list of people who wouldn't kill Typh Night 1 was garbage and should be ignored. He even came back later and admitted that that list uses flimsy logic. Well then why even post such a list in the first place? Had anyone but MP made such a list and gotten called out on it, MP probably would have been all Dog-Pee Factor 3 on it. He is, indeed, a master back-tracker.

And I see MP broke out the old bully pulpit too. Stay classy, Sockman! :sigh: I must say that I thought Llama's shade-lob at MP was justified. Then the eruption that ensued made MP v. Llama the new Epi v. Golden, only much more one-sided and ordeal, which quickly made me...
Image

Hey MP- what appeals to you about Position 4? You've voted for it twice now. A few of us are in agreement that it looks the scariest for the civvie cause.

I pondered following the Speaker of Serenity's request to vote for TH but then I remembered that we have no reason to trust the Speaker of Serenity.

JJJ subbing out perhaps? :( Won't miss your post volume if you do, but I will miss your personality.

I hate, hate, HATE changeable votes!

I honestly give Golden the Coward ;) some brownie points for his ploy against Epi. That's badass yo. I'm still not sure one way or the other on you though.

Boy, there's some frightful stuff in both 3 and 5. I initially said Position 2 looked very positive for civvies but that's only from the view of civvies landing those powers. This game is like the opposite of the Star Trek movies- here the odd-numbered choices are the way to go (though I seriously enjoyed ST3: The Search for Spock and ST5 could make for a great film if there wasn't so much TV-grade suck in it). Between Position 3 and 5, coin flip says 5.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Night 1)

Here's what Rico had to say, nicely quantified:
Ricochet wrote:OK, here's my silly breakdown of the positions

Abilities with positive effects on a player or the field
Abilities that only serve the carrier's interest or gain
Abilities with negative effects on a player or the field
Abilities with ambivalent effects, that will probably depend on the alignment of the carrier

I am aware this is far from perfect, because recruitement might ultimately influence itself the positive or negative charge of most abilities. A protection can be generally positive, but switch to serving the player's or team's interest (if, for instance, the player gets recruited in a baddie camp). Some abilities like the kills or the ones that sound nasty have been unconditionally slotted into negative, despite their own nuances depending on alignment (like civ kills). The "ambivalent" section is for abilities I couldn't grasp or couldn't project into any of the three main slots (Stuff like "Picks Player". Ok, what am I supposed to believe will happen to the picked player or how can I tell if the pick is for goood or bad?)

So, to the best of my understanding and probably with a lot of mistakes in counting/assessing them:
Position 1 10 10 10 3
Position 2 7 12 10 3
Position 3 5 11 14 3 (+1 Unknown)
Position 4 4 14 11 3 (+1 Unknown)
Position 5 7 13 10 3
(wow, those are some weak ass color contrasts, but I'm not redoing the entire scheme code)

So overall positions 3 and 4 seems the most unpleasant, with 3 potentially creating the most amount of nasty. But of course, I haven't nuanced this breakdown at all, as in weighing which abilities are more pos/neg than others; so for instance, this doesn't really make the other positions look any better, considering they have stuff like Cremation, Mind Control, Hunger, Parasite, Immolation etc.

My conclusion is that, indeed, there is no safe choosing in this matter and we'll have to go through most of these positions anyway. It's clear that the Hosts have made this pretty balanced and it's more like a crazy mix, as if we jump from one entire game setup to another each Day (wait, this isn't Inception...), each with its virtues and nightmares, so we'll just have to navigate and suffer through them. However, my impulse right now is not to get rid of the worst-looking, because I think the amount of nasty effects and chaos would be different on D1 (with most of us unrecruited yet/unaligned) rather than later, when we have a better chance to look for patterns and such.

But this is overanalyzing, so tl;dr version is: right I feel like going for 1 or 2, out of which I think I prefer 1, even though it has cremation and mind control, because I'm not in the mood for Hunger and shit like that from Day freaking 1 already.

Here's what I had to say, with a vague and barely explained methodology:
G-Man wrote:Alright, so I went through each role's positions and did my best to determine which position for each role was the most beneficial to the civvies. Here's what I came up with:

Position 1 = 7
Position 2 = 15
Position 3 = 9
Position 4 = 6
Position 5 = 10

Even though there's some scary stuff in Position 2, it looks to me like that bad stuff is countered by some strong potential civvie stuff. The numbers don't equal the number of roles because some roles are equally bad or good across all their positions.

Thoughts?
I guess mine also comes from the standpoint of which roles cause the least harm to civvies. I'll have to go back and see if my initial calculations still stand.
