I think most people dont care. Or maybe they root for sone European team, or some weak team. Theres even a city where people painted the walls with the Argentina colors out of spite for the Brazil team.

The problem is that the team has become associated with corruption. The 2014 cup had loads of corruption associated with it the hosting. We had mass protests in 2013 where people protested against us hosting the WC, and those protests kickstarted the political crisis we are having. Also the Brazilian federation is the ultimate symbol of corruption, with its lasts three presidents either imprisoned in USA, or wanted by Interpol. Then there is the fact those yellow shirts were used for protesting in the 2016 coup, which put even more corrupt politicans in power. And then there is the fact the team is a symbol of Globo, the huge media conglomerate which supports coups.

Rooting for Brazil feels like rooting for the Empire.

I'm probably staying neutral because I dont feel like rooting against it but I don't feel the other way either.

That said, my country is having record levels of apathy this year. A lot less people are rooting for Brazil and many are even rooting against. The 7-1 didnt help, the political situation of the country doesn't either, and nobody wants to wear the yellow t-shirt because it was appropriated by the extreme right-wing movements. Nowadays if you see someone with a Brazil shirt they are probably protesting for a military coup.

Well this betting thing is helping. And World Cup is World Cup. I think I've joined the ranks of the casuals who only watch football every four years.
