Re: Fargo Mafia [DAY 1]
I view Sloonei as a civilian. I am less sure of him than I am of falcon or Strawhenge, but I still think he is fine. I've had no gripes with the directions he has taken his hunt. We seem to be viewing the game in general through similar eyes. Despite being Work Boy he is still sustaining a high clip of activity, currently over 200 posts. I wouldn't call him a perfect expression of his town self, but right now I hardly care. There's no way in hell I am voting for Sloonei today. He's close enough.

I think his obstinate view of The Hierarchy in general looks authentic. I make that read very cautiously, in that he probably stays POE but with less conviction.

Re: Fargo Mafia [DAY 1]
I think even asking that question is already digging too deep into human nature to be reliable for anything, if I am honest with you. It's just too specific a context to warrant the WIFOM questions, and it presumes too much about what's happening in his brain.tedxtr wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 2:37 pm thanks x2 ; i believe the strongest reason is the showing zero concern with a PoE that's upside down from thread consensus
do you think wolf!marmot is likely to go for the "post the weakest reasons in order to go at people that are active and considered town"?
i know it seems like a loaded question, but realistically, that's what I feel like he's done
do you think it's a fake approach designed...to get town read on derpiness?
SPF, for example, has been the subject of some degree of suspicion -- she isn't in a completely comfortable or untouchable position. So she makes for a generic target for someone looking for someone to gripe about, especially someone not on one's own mafia team. Marmot has known Epignosis, Lord of the Adverbs, for many years. SPF tends to write a lot of adverbs. Boom, there's poop to hurl.
It doesn't have to be mafia stuff, but I have no trouble seeing it that way.

Re: Fargo Mafia [DAY 1]
Rationale external to Marmot --> a pile of people have seemed town, removing them from candidacy
Rationale relating directly to Marmot --> degree of seriousness of his play parallels amount of suspicion presently heaped upon him; currently showing zero concern for the game state despite reading a bunch of POE'd players as town; griping with my generic cheerleader post as if it's remarkable; contributed to an environment of chaos with one of his goofy self-votes (i.e. eagerly participating in a state that I view as anti-town while not eagerly participating so much when the thread is healthier); beefing with SPF over adverbs as if Marmot is an adverb person
Probably not comprehensive

I'm playing a game of mafia where I'm surrounded by players of a higher skill level than I. If enough players conclude something that I don't see eye-to-eye with and they're right, then no I'm not concerned.

It isn't lazy to chop "slankers" when a wealth of rationale has been provided to support the choice by various different people.
It is lazy to decline to chop "slankers" merely because they are "slankers".

It's hard to see game solving happening in his decent load of posts. Most people seem to think this is a confident town pile: MacDougall, Strawhenge, falcon, Jay
Most people seem to think this is a town pile, albeit not as certain: Alison, Sloonei, fingersplints, SPF, Esooa, Nanook, Michelle, Oddmerta
This player's slot just arrived: Dom
These reads are a mixed bag across the roster and fall into some POE pools: tutuu/Hally, BoKnows, JPIC, KZA
These people are rarely trusted: AL_sama, Long Con, Marmot, tedxtr, TSP

Looking at the posts of some of those lower names might help you find your way.

Hi Hally. Thanks for joining 3,000 posts of Mafia. I wish to help you integrate, but I am only sporadically present right now. I think you might do well to investigate the ISOs of some consensus POE players, and that might help you find some footing and/or make some waves:

Marmot

Re: Fargo Mafia [DAY 1]
I expect to have a busy afternoon today and probably won't be around much until an hour or two pre-deadline. I think it has been a good Day 0/1, and I trust everyone to keep our heads on straight. I think right now we're in that natural stage of the process where a general POE pool has developed, and we explore the various people in it to figure out 1) if one is the clear best choice for a vote and 2) if there's cause to wonder about the validity of that POE pool. I think there have been a number of small points that have been or could be made in defense of consensus suspects, and it's healthy to have those dialogues. I am not yet at a point though where I feel like there's a need to overhaul my view of the game.
This feels to me like a situation where emotion-driven reads should be reigned in and controlled. Someone has to be mafia, and the bar should be higher than tiny singular moments of "could be town" for someone to earn staunch defense.

Re: Fargo Mafia [DAY 1]
For what it's worth to Long Con: I think the frequency with which he receives suspicion is a product of two things above all else:
1) lower activity level -- it may be lame that this happens, but it's not surprising. When more and more players adopt a POE-styled approach, players who offer less material to interpret are going to be read with less confidence by default. It's inescapable. That's why some people seem to find themselves in POE pools every game. I'm sorry that happens, but I don't know what can be done about it on the part of the hunters.
2) Long Con has a way of inviting it as a self-fulfilling prophecy and causing snowball effects. I might as well not even try, because I'll just get read as mafia -- this is an anecdotal view based on some frustrating incidents where trying did result in suspicion. But in general, trying harder is going to result in greater trust. It's also inescapable.

Like someone timid in the face of a harsh assessment. I think someone (maybe you?) suggested it looked mafia/mafia -- I don't think I agree with that. If AL_sama is mafia, I think that looks like them shrinking visibly from the pressure presented by someone outside their comfort zone. AL's reaction doesn't have to be a mafia one. It doesn't tell me much in general about them on its own power. It at least fits within the broader image of what I think a mafia AL would be in this game.BoKnows wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:30 amWhat are you thoughts on his reaction to the read list when Falcon added a little bit of pressure?JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:29 am One thing that I thought ought to be stated with regard to AL_sama: a number of folks have noted that they produced a reads list "out of nowhere". In my experience, Long Con has displayed irritation when suspected either way, but the form of the irritation may be distinct. When he's mafia, the irritation is a more overt kind of rage, like someone railing against an offensive that truly threatens him. When's he's town, the irritation is a more sarcastic dismissal of everyone else, like they and the entire game of Mafia itself are all nonsense that should be treated like nonsense.
I don't know that I see much irritation at this point though.
