I would estimate fewer than 1 of 5 games I've played or observed have not had participation issues of some sort. It's just part of the game.

I agree, DDL. Those three being modkilled would have been pro-civilian. Hell, even if just the two civilians had been modkilled it would have been pro-civilian. They don't bolster the civ numbers while alive if they never vote, and their absence allows someone else to be lynched who played the game.

I wouldn't care for it. I think posting is a proper measure of activity and voting isn't -- unless you require voting in the rules.
It is only the lack of the civ vote that results in inactives potentially breaking the game though?
In a game-deciding scenario, an actively-posting player is going to vote. A player who cannot be judged by anything other than a random number generator (by virtue of not posting) is already screwing up the game.

I don't think the civilians were expressly terrible but in a game where the Mafia are good you still want to think that the civs can possibly win no? I am just trying to help people understand how we beat you. It's educational. If you'd rather me not then I'll happily keep it to myself.
Oh I don't mind, by all means share your thoughts. I'm just expressing why I don't despair over this thing.

If I am being honest here, I think this game was more about great mafia play than terrible civilian play. I don't look back at any of these lynches we made and say "what were we thinking?".

We didn't ignore the active players. We lynched Jack. We didn't give people a break who did things we thought were suspicious. We lynched lapluie and sprityo. The Dom and Pennywise lynches were pretty much required by the numbers anyway, so crying about those is pointless.

It started frustrating, but a certain point of futility the frustration turns into comedy. Sometimes it's just not in the cards, and doing anything but laugh is not healthy.

Also, late in the game it was clear that nobody should trust me and that it was a cause for suspicion when people still did. Unfortunately though, I couldn't genuinely trust anyone. I have never felt so untrusting of so many players (and that is no criticism since I was horrible in this game). The only person I was sure was a civilian when it ended was wolbre04 -- and he wasn't. :goofp:

Playing this way got me an 8-1 record in 2017 and it's sucking in 2018. I think it can work, but any playstyle needs to be molded with the times. The site seems to have caught up with it.

Seriously, great game folks. Obviously some of my reads were shite, but that is a testament to the excellent play of the mafia team in this game. Y'all earned it. Even as I attempted to forge a last-minute POE, it ended up almost exactly wrong. :clap:

Between Fire Emblem and this game, I am slumping horribly. What can ya do.

Also good game Kyle -- I don't know what you did to win, but you got there so nice.

Nah, this is just the worst game I've ever played. I'm over it though. We did everything we could in the 24 hours of Day 6 and it didn't go our way.

If there's a Day 7 I will do things. I have work I should be doing.

I scoured over LC's posts, and I am getting more of his resigned-effort civilian vibe of recent memory than something more sinister.

I think we made the best decision I was able to come up with. That's all we can ask for in any lynch. :)

One point barely in Penny's favor:

If the killing role is absent, the probability that none of the kills so far would have landed on the independent or a mafioso is .237 / 23.7% (.75 ^5).

Still, that's not a staggering number and it's only one of three lynchable mafia roles.

Lynch a mafioso today? Sure. Even without the considerable effort we've given here we'd have just under a 50/50 shot at random. I think we've done everything we can do. I certainly feel better about the present lynch than I did about Dom.

Quin requires the mafia to completely outnumber the civilians, so it wouldn't end the game. Either a civilian dies netting a tie with the indy vote in tow, or the indy is "killed", revealed, and a 5-4 advantage is sustained.
so what exactly happens if we hit the indie by mistake? is that not a game over?
it would likely leave the civilian fate at the whims of an independent though with an unknown win condition.
so then it's not the end of the world if we find the unlynchable mafia today.
I can't answer with certainty given the number of variables in motion. It may not be the end of the world. It wouldn't be ideal.

Potentially. He was silenced early when everyone was still here. Even Pennywise was active at one point.
