Generally yes, I think. It was typical, so it didn't seem long. Open nights have also been typical. I definitely understand that it would seem super long though, especially to folks accustomed to smaller scale games of like <18 players ending by Night 7.

I once wrote War and Peace playing in a game that ended on Day 15. The site record is 22 cycles in one game.

Game length perspectives seem to vary heavily by culture. There was a time (and it still may be now) when Syndicate full games were always 10 cycles long or longer. We've had our share hit 13+.

There is a time and a place to be authoritarian and dig your heels in the dirt with a read, but I understand that Hally is rarely going to be the authoritarian sort. I don't blame you for that. I knew this game was lost the moment Michelle had a red check on Esooa. There's just nothing you can do with that. It invalidated the red check on Strawhenge.

If there's anything town derped on here, it's letting him get away with a post-check miller claim. But shit happens. After so much play time and mechanical nonsense, anything starts to seem believable.

@Strawhenge I'm afraid I have some bad news. Congratulations for your glorious victory, but it comes with a price. I hope you read the terms and services when you registered? If not, be aware that you're now legally obligated to continue playing Mafia games on The Syndicate with at least sporadic frequency. Had you lost, this wouldn't be the case. Tough luck, man.

I hope no town players in this game come in with salt and gripes. Each and every one of us did at least one thing to guide this game toward an L. I helped plenty by reading Strawhenge the opposite of correctly, ensuring my legacy would drag for a month and keep him afloat.

There has been a lot of townclearing and such that does get in my head, and he's someone that I have had suspicion of in the past that I thought I'd be allowed to publicly suspect. Seems like he's getting taken off the list, although players who have responded so far seem to be dialing back the praise ever-so-slightly. We'll probably have to wait to see what Alison says.

I, for one, am quite excited about pie charts.

Some general sentiments I wish to promote in case I drop dead:

This game has been chugging along nicely in a pro-civilian direction, and that's a credit to the efforts of many people. However, I do feel as though this thread has often been one or two steps away from derailing, perhaps sometimes due to deliberate efforts by wrongdoers but not necessarily in every instance. It has been my charge to keep the ship afloat and to keep the atmosphere of this thread appropriate for level heads and productive hunting. If I am dead, the primary agent behind that effort will be gone.

With that in mind: @MacDougall, @Alison, @falcon45ca, and @Esooa -- for the civilians among you that outlive me, please consider how your own behavior can influence that climate. Some players may wish to incite madness, innocently or not, but each of you has a role to play in ensuring that cannot be successful. The most obvious means toward achieving that is to reign in the instincts you may feel to present yourself as authoritarian or as a military commander. This can foster resentment in others which then itself leads to inordinate paranoia and unwillingness to cooperate. This doesn't mean you must be democratic, but it does mean you must treat everyone in the game, in spirit, the way that you would treat them outside the game -- including your suspects. I do not intend this as a lecture, and I have no doubt y'all can be effective in this way. I am saying it anyway because I will not be able to say it when I am dead, and it would be frustrating to watch things devolve to a less promising state for no good reason when I am a corpse. I choose each of you because I think these notions apply more directly to you.

@Sloonei, @staypositivefriend, and @Hally -- for the civilians among you that outlive me, I see you as the next line of defense of sanity and rationality. By that I mean that you will carry yourselves with aplomb, but you will also remain vigilantly skeptical when it is reasonable to be vigilantly skeptical. Each of you plays your own way, and you do so very well. I do think though that if I am dead, there will still be a solving void left where I stood. I think each of you could easily fill that void straightaway, especially if you work together to do so. Sloonei, this is especially important for you, because if I am to die any time soon, I will have done so without leaving a clear, irrefutable strong town read on you. That will not put you in a position you would prefer. You'll have to cover that ground on your own with accelerated solving.

@Strawhenge and @fingersplints -- for the civilians among you that outlive me, you are in decent shape for the time being. Strawhenge especially enjoys a position of broad trust, and fingersplints is at least given decent space to work without constant suspicions. Be aware though that under the circumstances, there's a very good chance each of you will outlive most or all of the people most dedicated to promoting your innocence. And if/when that happens, you will be magnets for b/s. You'll need to be ready for that, and also ready to engage your engines with the most reasonably assertive hunt you can manage. Because you'd be in charge, in a worst- or bad-case scenario, with no shortage of enemies trying to capitalize on your rustiness.

For everyone else, keep the pedal to the metal and we'll be just fine. Half or maybe even most of you ought to be civilians in a multiple-mafia-teams world, and in the end the game may fall to you. That encourages me, because I know the civilians among you will play to win.

in all of the games I've played with Marmot recently where he was town, he took the position of a high posting contrarian. in fallout he got into a big fight with sloonei etc.. In this game, on the other hand, he's posted rather little (that can be explained by other factors) and while in the thread largely followed the town leaders as far as I can tell. This strikes me as off.

You may or may not have also noticed, but I've made a habit of participating very little in most of Day 0 and early Day 1 before really engaging games, mainly for my own sanity and ability to keep up with a game over multiple days.

Am I really that much of a contrarian? I wouldn't have described myself as such.

Sure. I'm about to go to bed, but here's where I'm at.

I think some of the players who are steering the thread and maintaining a cohesive, team-oriented approach are town. This includes JJJ and Sloonei. There are probably other such active players that I haven't had the chance to interact with, but these two are standouts.

Tutuu has been high activity, but low commitment to her reads, I don't think there's much sincerity behind it. I can dig into it tomorrow to see if I still feel that way.

I've already explained my read of you. Some good posts. One icky post.

Nanook is in a slightly similar boat, one post that I didn't care for, but overall has been fine. I expressed suspicion of him earlier, but when I think about it, I'd expect more slanking from him as mafia.

TSP and Bo I think are town due to volume and content. Bo in particular seems extremely comfortable and fluid here to an extent that I've never seen from himn, and he's been the Day 1 yeet in multiple recent games.

These are the players that have stood out to me thus far. Thanks for asking, this was a useful exercise for me too

It is both.

I've seen reasons for both Ted and TSP to be town. Al on the other hand posted an awkward readlist yesterday and not much since then.

If this game happens to be multi-ball, Nanook and spf should be given another look. They were both suspicions I had earlier on before they claimed mason.

Your theory about multiball is correct.

A lot of this is rather bland, but I highlight one thing that stands out (actually the entire exchange ending with the orange bits). Tony rendered an accusation upon Marmot that's pretty nuanced and Tony-like, and Marmot's answer has a tone of acquiescence that doesn't strike me as the stuff of teammates. It reads like someone treading carefully in the face of suspicion from a source they may not have anticipated.

The very last post there could just tell the whole story on its own too for those willing to brave the wifom. I probably am willing.

This post and the next few fit into my preconceived notion of what town Marmot should be like. If Marmot were a wolf, why would he post something like this? It could be to defend SPF or something, or to defend himself from a perceived shot, but no. Marmot is a high poster who doesn't often face accusations of slanking. It appears to be a general feeling and not one that a wolf would find necessary to share with the class.

Well this is a hot mess.

It's almost humorous how this progresses from "sure, whatever" to "okay cool" to "oh. well? uh" to "OH my." to "YIKES"

Tony could not have made himself look worse at EOD. Ironically it's kinda similar to Strawhenge in that one can argue "why defend Marmot when he's going over", and that's valid to a point. I do think Tony is strictly worse here than Straw was, and he is going to have to contend with that. Now it needs to be made clear that this isn't all of Tony's Marmot-related posts. Many of them are contained in the previous spoiler, and those generally work to Tony's credit.

So with the rest of this it's a classic case of "Is Tony a blatant-ass teammate, or did he engage in severe derping at a very unfortunate time?"

I want to answer with the latter. That he went after Strawhenge as a pro-Marmot motion makes that harder for me. It is just such a bad take in my view. Aaaaaauuuuugggggggghhhhhhhh

My tactic in large games has been to largely ignore everything that happens until halfway through Day 1 for my own sanity. That said, town has lost every such game. I'll start with SPF and KZA isos.

Why are you voting me and why do you have 100+ posts already?

If my memory of Early Day 1 holds, SPF and KZA were chosen because they had the most early votes. This is an uninspired hunt that tells me nothing about those two players. In a vacuum I can say they're probably not both partnered with Marmot, but that is not a thing I was worried about to begin with.

Gut reaction is this is not a teammate interaction with Bo. Bo's recommendation looks like a real one, and Marmot's response uses a cutesy euphemism that makes it feel strained a bit, like he's trying to cozy up to Bo by being warm and friendly. As marmots are wont to do.

If I read this as a genuine inquiry, it probably means that Marmot's team was not discussing the multiball discussion behind the scenes. What that means for us at this moment, idk. It seems likely that Marmot had already assumed/been aware that we're in a multiball game, so this question is being asked so that he can know how to modify his behavior. It may just mean that his team did not consider this an urgent topic of discussion behind the scenes. Does this interaction exist if Marmot/KZA are teammates? Marmot misreads KZA's read on me, KZA points it out, Marmot walks it back. My gut tells me this is a good look for KZA: it doesn't look like a staged interaction, and I don't think a misunderstanding of this nature is likely to happen between teammates. I guess it could if the suggestion is that Marmot misunderstood KZA's read on me because he just wasn't paying enough attention, and wanted to butt heads with a partner. I guess that could be an explanation. But I think it looks more like a mafioso (Marmot) who wanted to push a civilian, but misfired a bit.

His early case on Alison seemed like a reasonable Sloonei thought even if I didn't really agree with it

This is a reasonable KZA thought.
This post is weak and Marmot was rightly called out for it. But what does it say about KZA? I'm probably inclined to say it's another good look for him. There is still an argument for them to be teammates in this exchange though: the whole thing is designed to put distance between them. But I think it looks too soft for that. Marmot prods KZA with a misrepresentative question. KZA corrects him. Marmot bows and sings the praises of KZA as soon as he gets an answer. If they're partners, they'll probably be more theatrical about this whole thing. Instead, Marmot tries to kick it off and it just falls completely flat.

I have null reads on Marmot, LC and Dom, and slight town reads on SPF and Fingersplints. I am interested in investigating them because...

- LC/Marmot's alignment sheds light on the alignment of other players. For example if LC is scum then you look great and the people that called LC town for no reason look really bad. Same with Marmot, SPF's pressure on him is telling if Marmot is scum.

- I find Dom to be a passionate and high energy player. While I don't think his absence from the thread is super AI, I would like to resolve him ASAP because I think I would work well with him if we're both town.

- Fingersplints is doing all the townie stuff that she usually does in other games, but she isn't as obvious town to me as she has been in both other games I've seen her town. I would like to understand why. This is the primary reason for reading her only lightly town and why I have her as a slot to look into.

- Out of all the players in my game, my read on SPF has varied/jumped around the most. I find half her content to be extremely townie and the other half to be insipid or misguided.

Has someone called me town for no reason?
I can't do much with this, but I don't think Alison is Marmot's partner just looking at this thread as a whole.

I was ISOing KZA and I noticed instances of stating a townread of Sloonei but not explanation for it.

I think it drew my attention a little more because the three of us had a lot of interactions in Fallout Mafia, and in particular, Sloonei voiced strong scumreads of each of us at one point in the game, and I was concerned that KZA was attempting to pocket him early in this game after that happened there.

i'm not at a point where i can confidently point to one player and say "this person is a wolf", but i am at a point where i can point to a pool of people and say "this pool probably has wolves", and vice versa for town. the more specific wolfreads tend to come later in the game when i've had more time to interrogate people and feel things out

there's nothing particularly holding me back from making a vote right now, either. i just don't feel particularly inspired to do it at the moment. it'll happen

in all of the games I've played with Marmot recently where he was town, he took the position of a high posting contrarian. in fallout he got into a big fight with sloonei etc.. In this game, on the other hand, he's posted rather little (that can be explained by other factors) and while in the thread largely followed the town leaders as far as I can tell. This strikes me as off.

You may or may not have also noticed, but I've made a habit of participating very little in most of Day 0 and early Day 1 before really engaging games, mainly for my own sanity and ability to keep up with a game over multiple days.

Am I really that much of a contrarian? I wouldn't have described myself as such.
This does not feel like a teammate interaction. Marmot feels like he's flinching a bit here. Decent look for TSP.

I did? I didn't ever really present a case, I just kinda fell onto Marmot because it felt right.

I don't think Marmot was destroyed by a case, really. He was constricted by a collective POE effort into one of the premier wagons. Then at EOD when matters were close, you made it quite clear that Marmot was your choice and AL_sama was not your choice. Only Esooa was similarly adamant (and probably more adamant). Whatever credit others wish to take for the chop, I think you two were most responsible.
