The Syndicate

It was a very strange endgame scenario where having a member of our team get caught by a watcher was beneficial to us.

This game marks the 11th straight year in which Epignosis has hosted at least one Syndicate game.

I can't remember the last time I was a civilian on The Syndicate. I played two games in 2022 and I was mafia in both. This was my first game of 2023.

This was one of the weirdest games I have ever played from the standpoint of strategy. Our team took the road less traveled in this one. My teammates were spectacular.

I've been handed an impossible task, and sometimes that's just the game. Credit to the mafia for working mechanics brilliantly to their advantage. We can only hope this isn't the end. Maybe some third party wrinkles still exist to save the day. We can hope. We can pray. I forgive all my dear townies. How could you know?

Second counterpoint would be that Epignosis is within reason a game host who can modify, alter etc. traditional roles.

I’ve played 150 games or so, and I don’t believe I have ever faked a red check for a 1-1 trade. It’s bad Mafia. Oh well, this will have to be cleared up when the game is over and folks are willing to listen.

First thought is not to be enamoured with you playing the "shenanigans" card on your read.

Why did you not, for the whole duration of Day 3, contemplate or made caveats that your read can be limited?

There’s no reason to do that. I have a role and a night result. Any closed setup can potentially have redirection abilities, but meatbaby literally didn’t even deny it. Game is baked.

The most likely pair might just be falcon/motobot. I have absolutely zero reason to call either of them town, and they're compatible with the field. Otherwise, I think there are a few more tinfoil appropriate slots that probably make sense as mafia just because I am still alive in this game -- but not as mafia together (particularly Lime, Rico, and Zenon). Among them I might be willing to say Zenon is the most problematic, just as a general product of 1) the gamestate feeling weird and aimless for most of the proceedings and 2) the fact that her town credit is largely driven by wifom and not by content (severity of emotion, today's silence, etc). Martin has made good observations on this front too.

The above is only from Zenon's side, though plenty of LC posts are in there by connection. The two of them are very chummy throughout the ISO, though I think Zenon seems to be the "chumminess instigator" (this is not meant as a personality gripe, because it is good to instigate being chums with your chums). It might reflect pocketing if Zenon is mafia (or vice-versa I suppose).

If one is pocketing the other it's not quite as overt from the LC direction. This side makes things seem a little more compatible and coordinated.

I'd say on balance they "fit" together in a technical sense, but I don't think it'd be my first pick for a pair after meatbaby. Obviously this material is only meaningful if one or the other proves to be mafia, but put it in your mental bank for later.

Okay so I don't think Zenon and Rico are mafia together. I am not going to expand on that, but anyone can review for themselves for a refresher.

I just sat down to work on my chart, and realized I brought the wrong computer. I don't think I am going to be able to get back home in time, so that might be a wash unfortunately.

It may not be a gigantic loss anyway, because I'd mostly managed to review lower-volume players and revealed very few dissociations. The priorities remain with meatbaby. I can at least glance over some higher-volume associations and see what I find worth sharing, but it likely won't come in a pretty beautiful chart like I had intended. We weep.

I really appreciate the effort, folks. I think we’ve used the day well, and that often doesn’t happen with red checks.

I think Martin’s POE grouping is pretty sound. I’m less clear on the order, but the names are sensible. And some of this game’s difficulty makes sense if Zenon is mafia.

@Seanzie you asked me about meatbaby/Martin. I couldn’t really say why meatbaby has stayed stuck on that mafia read, but if I had to guess — they chose Martin as their token punching bag early in the game. They’re not sure how to pivot or “develop” that read and have stuck to it for the sake of having something to say.

I appreciate your perspectives Martin. I can’t say much at the moment, but I will continue thinking things over.

Rondo never fails to have a good time.

A summary of all my meatbaby reviews will be packaged with my chart when I get it finished. For some very basic cliff notes: I think most people are at least vaguely compatible with meatbaby outside Martin and Rondo, who don't really fit at all. I also tend to doubt Seanzie fits.

Porscha is a polorized noob. Meatbaby is an actual newcomer and has shown clear signs of townie aggression that I think someone on their 3rd game would be very unlikely to be able to pull off as scum.

I saw something about Tutuu claiming something, but didn't actually see what the claim was, so my Tutuu read isn't based on that.

All the rest are because I'm good at this game.

Rondo, Moto and Creature have all been pretty meh today. Meatbaby has as well, but I felt good enough about them D1 that they're still north of null.

I should probably ISO Zenon. I know Belzy was scumreading them, so doing so might help me sort both of them. However... that will have to wait until later because I have plans tonight.

Idk, it is hard to find a world that makes a lot of sense if Rico isn't scum. People who are townreading Rico, I'd love to hear your opinions on this. @tutuu @JaggedJimmyJay @Zenon

This provides a decently comprehensive view of Seanzie's progresson on meatbaby. Initially, after meatbaby's charged responses to tutuu, Seanzie had her quite high on the town list. To Seanzie's credit, he didn't rest on that read lazily, as it developed (and dropped) as the game continued and meatbaby remained generally absent. There's a continued initiative visible here to sort meatbaby even after the strong initial town read that I appreciate. That initial read was wrong and can be validly questioned, but gun to my head Seanzie is not a teammate.

Scotty looks like strong gamer. We could lose strong Town or bad mafia. I still see him more as townie than mafia

I gave a little impression of the last post in this spoiler earlier, but it was kind of smoke and mirrors before my reveal (dependent upon Rico being mafia instead of meatbaby). Rico definitely wasn't TMI-reading meatbaby town, so that point would have to be repurposed or discarded. My general impression for real is that this stuff is ~whatever~. None of it screams trouble to me, but I can't say it's conclusively dissociated either. If I try hard enough I can see the last post again as too on-the-nose for a teammate. Or perhaps that very first exchange bears the proper sort of emotional pull to split them. Kinda like Lime Coke, I would like to hear alternative impressions about this pair.

This might be the most conclusively dissociated pair on the board. I don't get a distancing impression at all from the first Martin vote, and credit to him for having a good initial instinct for meatbaby. meatbaby's reception of Martin in general strikes me as pure return-fire defensiveness, and not the sort of thing that suggests an unseen agenda. I doubt Martin is meatbaby's teammate.
