Re: Mountain Mafia [END]
I got to climb to the highest peak in Massachusetts earlier this year. It was neat. Not impressively high (3491 feet/1064 m), but a cool experience. This was my view:
I've also peaked Mt. washington, the highest point in New England (6148 feet/1917 m), three times now. That's a bigger hike. Mountains are cool.

I hope we didn't scare you off with the volume. This game was a bit extreme even by our standards. we're always a little intense, but not usually like this.Mesk514 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2017 8:10 am Thank you for the chance to participate, unfortunately the post volume was way too overwhelming and I was under the impression I would be subbed out as I asked twice to be. I guess that didn't happen! However, I am pleased to see town was still able to get through it. Congrats

Re: Mountain Mafia [END]
I think what epi's point is is that there were more opportunities for town roles to make a play like the one I did on Day 2 than there perhaps should have been. I faced some pressure on Day 2 and had no reason to worry about the consequences, then I was relatively unquestioned as town for the rest of the game. Essentially the same thing happened with nutella on Day 1.Kylemii wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2017 12:33 am i agree day 1's no lynch tie ruling was a safety net we probably didn't need, but the day 2 lynch was a calculated risk taken by the mayor role, i think that one was fair.
I think in general, roles whose only purpose is to be guaranteed to be harder to kill at night should be limited to like... maybe 1 per game, depending on how many other roles can fuck with the kills.

I prefer this approach when I host too. I tend to be a silent host. Just the crucial updates and end-of-phase posts, and maybe a few off-topic shenanigans per game. But everyone who runs a game should run it in their own way.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2017 2:44 pm That's why as a host I generally ask that questions be delivered privately. Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 4]
I don't want this to sound critical of Marmot in any way becauase it's not. Just an observation I made this game and a note about personal preference. The reason I felt confident Malakim was town was actually this post:It wasn't just that he was confused about the nightkill mechanics, but also that he got a response from the host in the thread. It suggested to me that malakim's ignorance of the nightkill mechanics was genuine and that he had no hand in carrying them out, or else Marmot wouldn't have been compelled to respond here. It's a tiny thing, but any host interaction has the potential to reveal information. This one gave me a hint about a player's role that I should not have had.

the hardcore bussing strategy kept us off the scent for a while. it would have been effective if any of us died at any point.JaggedJimmyJay wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2017 4:12 am Really though good game, gang. The civilians put more collective effort into this game than I have ever seen in 24-hour days. 9 out of 10 mafias lose to that effort.
We were incredibly unlucky on top of that. We had the thread primed to start with two mislynches. They both failed, and the victims became confirmed townies instead. We killed both Sloonei and Epignosis before they could lead my destruction -- they both lived. We killed dunya before she could carry out her slaughter -- she lived.

that was probably my favorite thing about this game tbhKylemii wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2017 4:11 am I set out from the beginning to use my role as a means to advise the thread and direct people's attention without tipping the mafia off to who I was, and I pretty much did the opposite of that.
The Scooby Doo script message was because I kinda..... stopped caring at that point. It seemed like we were going to win no matter what happened and Marmot told me at the beginning of the game that my messages could be as long as I wanted as long as they don't hit post limits. I wasn't sure a full length movie script would fit.
In a way I didn't really have a choice but to post the entirety of the dialogue from Scooby Doo: Where Are You season 2 episode 7 on Night 8; it was out of my hands.

I was stopping the lynch no matter what if Jack and I were within a single vote of each other. I wasn't messing around with all the vote shenanigans in play when I had that card in my back pocket. As a result, that was one of the most fun EoDs I've ever experienced.

Re: Mountain Mafia [END]
I'm relieved. Kyle and dunya were about to surpass my post count. This was an awesome town team. Scum played an admirable game too, but there's not much to do when town is as vigilant as they were here. 14 players topped 100 posts, 9 topped 300, and 3 topped 700, including a mid-game replacement. This game surpassed the previous high post total for a speed game by more than 1000. Everyone who was here was on the ball.
Thank you Marmot.

Re: Mountain Mafia [NIGHT 7]
I don't understand your mindset regarding the town read exercise (or Operation Trust Fall, as it's better known). How am I drawing a target on anyone when the object of the mini-game is to name everybody as town? By that logic, any speculation whatsoever is painting a target on the backs of any town reads.Elohcin wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2017 10:56 pmNothing. I just said I though your "let's name the reasons why people arw civ" idea was silly. We're just saying, hey mafia...night kill this one! I thought your exercise would hinder, instead of help, civs. So...I called you out on it. I don't care who you are...if I feel I see something that isn't helping the civs find scum... I'm going to say something
I also thought you telling bloop not to qorry about reading the thread was a hindrance as well. How can ahw help hunt if ahw doesn't know what's going on.
Also, I never totally confirmed you as town, btw. I said that the thread has pretty much confirmed you town. You're the most trusted player, I think. Why would a mafia player attack a vocal player who isn't going to get lynched and had supported her in the game?
How is niju supposed to help if she bothers herself to sit down to read 5000+ posts in the short window she has available to her? She's a school teacher. Let's not torture her. I think players in general are perfectly capable of making reads and having an impact if they just thrust themselves into the thread blind. I think that strategy would be better for a player in her shoes right now. You seemed to make the same encouragement ("I don't expect her to read ALL the pages..."), so I again am left wondering what exactly the nature of your objection is.
Lastly, you seem to be playing it off in this post as if you did not express suspicion of me for these things yesterday, but...:
This is a completely different objection than the one you just raised a moment ago.Elohcin wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 9:35 amI think if I were to propose an idea like this I would be jumped on and lynched. However, with the way things are going, maybe ruling out those we trust will help us lynch scum. I just don't know. Gut tells me this approach is coming FROM scum to distract us from looking at clues in posts from those who have died recently.
nutella wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 4:41 pm Man I woke up this morning thinking "hmm..... actually.... Sloonei is totally bad and has been playing us and I'm totally gonna vote for him" but apparently you guys think there's decent hints that cbob cop-checked him. Meh. Idk if I'm totally sold on that, but I'm also kinda tinfoiling hard rn and occam's razor is that Sloonei is town as town can be. Kyle is probably my next likely vote, but I haven't really figured out why I'm leaning that way either. Mostly I just feel way more lost as to who could be bad after the cbob flip than I have been for most of the game and I'm reconsidering some possibilities.
Sloonei, I don't really feel like doing your exercise and I honestly don't see how it's helpful. I don't think it's a helpful way of thinking about players or trying to solve the game. I'll just convince myself that everyone has some reason to be good and I'll never find scum that way. I'm not sure what you're getting out of this exercise but IMO people's answers so far have been total fluff and devoid of constructive gameplay. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe you're figuring out which players show a pattern of weakest/least reason to look civ, but I personally don't view this little game you set up as a particularly town way of solving the game. If anything it feels eerily similar to Jay urging everyone to do the GTHs, and he was bad.
What's your reasoning for looking at why people look town and figuring out which of those are weakest, instead of the other way around, looking at reasons everyone could look bad and seeing which are strongest?
Not necessarily a declaration of suspicion, but given your previously established suspicion, and nutella's framing of her skepticism as basis for suspicious in the comment which you express agreement with here, I feel comfortable inferring here. Then, after all these dialogues that day:
Elohcin wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:16 pm Wow, I was gone a few hours and there hasn't been much talk. I said this already. I think we need to go back to where we were before all the CFD (I think that's what you would call what has happened in just about all, if not all our lynches). Its like we have our mind made up and and then it gets changed at the end. I'm up for voting sig, kyle, or quin. I think those were the ones who had cases against them which were forgotten in the CFDs. But most of all, I'm up for sloonei. I think he took us down a rabbit trail today and wasted our time as I thought would happen. I cannot stay up late. I will be voting within the next hour.
So you can't honestly tell me that "nothing" has changed, and your claims that your objections to my play were only philosophical, because it's impossible to read these posts as anything other than suspicion, and now that's completely vanished with you telling me it was never there in the first place. But I'm staring right at it.Elohcin wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 11:35 pm Even though I would rather vote sloon, I went with quin because he already has a vote. I hate to do that, but as y'all can see... I have two votes. I cannot stay up any longer to help save myself, so I'll do what I can. I'm telling y'all... I think we are doing these bad lynches to ourselves. We have all these suspects and all of a sudden today you are going to decide to leave that behind and vote for me. This is not helping.

Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 3]
Jay spent a great deal of time arguing that low posters had an increased chance of being scum in this game and thus should be considered as lynch candidates. He said plenty of things about sprit, sig, and dom/malakim individually. This is the extent of his individual mentions of Glorf/INH/Niju:
And this is everything Wilgy had to say about the player slot formerly known as Glorf:
So we have one scum player completely ignoring the empty slot except when mechanically obligated to give it a nod, and another straining hard to present a hypothetical defense of it unprompted.
If wilgy is attempting to defend a teammate here, his effort is a little sloppy, but I do not entirely rule it out. I don't think this was wilgy's most focused game of all time. He bailed on the thread last night when pressure was mounting on him. That tells me he was not entirely confident in his ability to defend himself.

Re: Mountain Mafia [NIGHT 7]
Alright yeah I've been trying to find an explanation for nutella's day 1 survival that doesn't involve her being Everest and the best I come up with is that she's actually Olympus Mons and Everest is one of the inactives. But this still means she's not scum, so I guess I'm back to ruling her out.
I have serious doubts that any of LC, speedchuck, and kyle could be bad. dunya is town on volume alone. The DDL ISO I just attempted yielded nothing alarming. Quin has felt abundantly town for most of the game and I do not love any of the arguments I've seen against him this game.
Elohcin almost has to be bad by process of elimination. And then I am back to primarily suspecting sig and niju. Of the two, I think there is actual evidence for niju being bad, and actual evidence for sig being good. I've been trying to kick up any argument that would incriminate somebody other than the two inactives after Elohcin, but I can come up with nothing that I believe in at this time.

Re: Mountain Mafia [DAY 3]
Reading through DDL's posts and this was a funny little moment:
Otherwise this ISO is not setting off any alarms thus far.

Man.
Who were my town and bad reads again?
Start of Day 3, after we'd had a long lull in play. So it's believable. But... funny. I wanted to bring it up.Dragon D. Luffy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 7:52 am Ok just ISO'd myself. I have a better understanding of where my reads were.

Re: Mountain Mafia [NIGHT 4]
Long Con is the easiest suspect to name after Elohcin, but one of the standout interactions from Wilgy's ISO is this chain of posts:
These posts came within ~10 minutes of each other. That means in those 10 minutes, wilgy went from naming LC as a suspect, to being refuted and totally backing off the suspicion. I get strong anti-teammate vibes from this. If scum wilgy wants to bus his teammate, he's going to do so with actual evidence and he's not going to throw in the towel immediately. This looks like a sincere effort by wilgy to smear Long Con, and when it was revealed that his line of suspicion was false, he had to abandon the plan.DrWilgy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2017 12:47 pmYou right. Idk what made me think you agreed with it. Bad feeling about LC absolved.

Who's bad?Dragon D. Luffy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2017 8:26 pmWell that's not unsportsman like and I've done a similar thing myself once.
My role was a jester who turned into a serial killer if he didn't get lynched day 1. I got lynched day 1 and won the game but another player used a revive on me with made me "unwin" the game so now I had to be a serial killer. I proceeded to spend the whole game without killing anyone so people would think I was still a jester. It was fun because I acted as scummy as possible for a full game. And then I won it again.
