Golden wrote:I was talking to my niece about the game and was thinking I would try to put a real life Survivor player against each player who played in this game, but it will take a bit of work.

Here's a start

Opt_Outside. She set herself up as a loyal ally to many, and had the ability to get people onside even after she hurt their allies. She took out the one ally she felt she had to take out in order to win, but otherwise played a remarkably loyal game. No-one ever truly came after her or wanted her out. Opt_Outside is Earl Cole.

Quin. He made big moves, and he was willing to antagonise people to make them. He stayed loyal, but primarily because he believed he could beat everyone. His game will be disputed among the Survivor Mafia fandom for eons, asking whether or not he was robbed. Quin is, quite legitimately, Russell Hantz.

Sorsha. She was at her social best, connecting with the right people at the right times and not letting the other people left at the end realise just how socially well connected she was. She was probably a couple of unlucky breaks away from winning (if Quin had gone down at 5 and she had a clear shot at opt at 4, I think she was odds on favourite). She wasn't able to answer as many questions at final tribal council and lost some votes there. Sorsha is Amanda Kimmel.
I like this a lot.

Sig would be Francesca.

Half the game knew and you let me on my merry way, so in the end, it's mainly on the players heads that I got to the end.
In fact, it would have been even more overpowered had you never told anyone.

But then all the players were available in the first post, so by PoE, people would have known the idol hobbit was hanging around disturbing the peace.

I'm still surprised people didn't look to want to vote you out upon learning your role. It must be a testament to how well liked you are as a guy

Re: Final Tribal Council [END]

And just like in the show, Russell makes it to the final 3 and doesn't win :scared:

I totally thought every person sitting in the end had a solid chance of staking a case for themselves and could win it.

Other things:
Dat Survivor Auction was a bit of a mess, and the only reason I didn't do character is because chatzy has a reading limit for free rooms and I wanted to make sure I and anyone else could read back as to what was won. Linki was a bitch though, and I apologize.

Oh, and the mechanics of the hunger and thirst level drop: if no one went to the well, everyone would lose thirst. The only other way to gain thirst was reward

Opt_Outside wrote:Scotty- this was rad. When you first told me that you were planning this game forever ago I had no idea it would be this cool! Most of those challenges were so well done- that memory one and the idol in the sand and all the puzzles you created... good stuff, man.

Poor speedchuck though- the part of his role that was like "can learn who had btsc" :pout:
I'm so glad you signed up! You really were a challenge beast.

Oh, which reminds me-

When Opt went on that immunity run (Boggle, Plate Smash, Pole, Captain, Memory), she only had an advantage (Strength) in the Captain one. And the tribe voted her as the captain (unknowing of its benefits of course), so she set herself up to be in a good spot to win that one.

The challenge advantages were never meant to be a huge advantage. If anything, they were supposed to be slight improvements- so that even without an advantage it was possible to win.

The most unbalanced advantage I think looking back was speedchuck's (puzzle) advantage in the 'X Marks the Spot', which told him the immunity idol was buried in the water...which, after people revealed their clues in thread, made it glaringly obvious exactly where the idol was.

Otherwise, most advantages were hardly noticeable

Golden wrote:Hey, scotty...

Hosting is damn hard, and it certainly sucks massive amounts of time. But you did absolutely amazingly. Seriously, like you are going to get theme and hosting nominations for the sockys this year no doubt. It was an amazing, living the real thing experience. I cannot state that enough.

I'm sure DF will agree, however, that we've built enough shelters to last a while :p
Thanks man!

hahahaha those damn shelters.

Some secrets about the day polls:

-attempt to start a fire (needs 1 success from each team to succeed. If fail, team is fireless, can't cook meat. One person has 25% chance to succeed. With each successive vote for fire, it will add 25% chance to succeed. 4 votes is 100%. If no fire burning, fish will have a harder time cooking, and will be penalized -1. A completed fire only need 1 person to be stoked the next day and continue the flame)

-attempt to build a shelter (needs 5 from each team to build good shelter that will last permanently. If only 3-4 people attempt, the shelter will be built, but will fall apart in 3 days’ time. If only 2 people attempt, the shelter will be built, but will fall apart in 2 days’ time. If 0-1 persons attempt, the shelter will not be built. If a team has no shelter, they will lose 1 energy in a cycle, on top of weather effects)

-go to water well (starts BTSC with each other for the night phase. Only 1 person needed. Water lasts 1 cycle. If no water, players will lose 1 thirst in a cycle, on top of other effects)

-attempt to fish (For each person that fishes, supplies 0-1 food for the person that fishes, provided there is a fire. With fishing gear, supplies 1-2 extra food, provided there is a fire.)

-walk along the felled palm tree (find the hidden immunity idol. If multiple look here, the recipient is randomized, and the other one will receive a message saying there is only a displacement as if something used to be there.)

-take a nap (+d3 energy at end of phase)

-starting on day 2, the natural footbridge contained a chicken. If both teams had found the chicken, there would maybe be 2 chicken through merge.

Merge added 2-3 more locations. The ridge beyond the hill had a fake idol that could be reburied for someone else to find. Golden found it, reburied it, and Quin found it.

The idol was reburied in random locations outside of camp after being used.

On Day 9-Night 9, there was already a built in rain monsoon that was to block BTSC.

Re: Final Tribal Council [END]

I learned a lot in this game- not only about hosting, but about balance.
One big mistake I made before the game even started was including the character list/breakdown before the roles were even sent out. That's what the alibis were originally for, but...ya know...that was basically useless with the list of player in the public domain from initial drafting of the game a few years ago.

In my testing, I tried to do my best of testing most of the challenge on people beforehand. There were some challenges that didn't get tested enough....like that Mud Wrestling challenge. That one fell flat IMO. You had a preordained moveset (8 total) and could either block or attack, and either way, it would balance itself out in the end. So it most literally relied on dice rolling.
As for dice rolling, I have to speak to the challenges- I did have a good handful of challenges that relied on luck, and would have liked to limit that considerably more. It's hard to design challenges that can take place over an entire day period and still be fair. I still err on the side of people making their own choices, with a fair amount of luck thrown in...just like real Survivor.
Then of course I had a small amount of typos in the challenges...and if they were there, LoRab would find them :sigh:

I also learned I need to be clearer on many fronts when it comes to instructions.

Oh, and god help me I aint running two threads at once on my own any more. That shit is exhausting. And time consuming. I really lost some time to this little game this month.

All in all, I just hope everyone had as much fun as they could, and I'll say that my job was accomplished. I'm sorry that some of you may have felt ganged up on or uncomfortable with the cutthroat nature of this type of game, but I appreciate you giving it a shot and doing your best anyway. It means a lot.

Your starting wellness levels are as follows:
20 Energy, 10 Thirst, and 10 Hunger.

Additionally,
Every day, all players may PM the host the names of 2 other players on their tribe. If 2 players select each other, they will receive BTSC during that night phase. Double targeting does not apply with this action- this is the only time double targeting does not apply

Your starting wellness levels are as follows:
20 Energy, 10 Thirst, and 10 Hunger.

I'm proud to cast this vote for you, and hopefully, I'll kick your ass in Syndicate Survivor 2: Australian Outback. *Votes OptOut*

Re: Final Tribal Council [END]

I'm not even sure where to start with transcribing the monster of charts I have for this game. I have all separate tabs of Attributes/BTSC/Actions/Day Polls/Night Polls/Votes/Camp Conditions that are quite expansive. Dunno when I'll get to posting all of them, but in the mean time if you have any questions of the comings and goings of the game and why something happened when, I'll try and fill you in.

This was a strange game with the bevy of BTSC, which made it increasingly hard as a potential viewer and for the jury to understand what was going on. Thank you for staying with it, guys. I'm especially grateful for Marmot for handling that BTSC communication after I almost lost my mind in Day 2.

Thank you for dealing with my constant shifting of time zone changes and ending day at this god awful time of day; it wasn't ideal, but it is what it is.

I'll work on posting everyone's full roles soon.

Re: Final Tribal Council

Episode 14: "Winner and Reunion Show"
Image
It was Final Tribal Council, and not a creature was stirring, not even a chicken- it was dead.

On 3 tiny stumps sat the final three contestants. Scotty Probst cleared his throat.

"It's been a long journey, and now it ends here, with only one of you clearing the way to victory. None of you chose to come here- hell, we pushed you out of the helicopter, and killed half of you. But you did not get here alone, and you will not win alone.. So it's time to bring in the Jury. They will decide which of you will make it out of here as a winner."

After a momentarily delay, the last nine players previously voted out were led in one-by-one into the Jury box.

OptOut waved to LoRab, but LoRab pulled out a pretend phone and pretended to have a loud pretend conversation with her mother.

Sorsha waved to INH, but INH smooshed his hands together as if crushing a miniature bug.

Quin waved to Scotty, but Scotty was busy hosting and shit.

"It is now in the jury's court. Prove to them why each of you deserve their vote."

Each contestant laid out in so many words why they thought they boasted the resume of a worthwhile player.
In turn, [most] jury members addressed the players and the players responded to them in kind. This took 24 hours for some reason. After many a nods and walltexts, each jury member then went up to vote.

"I'll go get the votes for one last time," stated Probst. He waltzed over and retrieved the jar.

"But I'll have to read the votes when I go back to my headquarters in Studio City, California!

"Ohhhhh mannnn," groaned the jury.

So Probst snapped his fingers and everyone was instantly transported to California.

"Wow! That was amazing!" shouted Sorsha.

"But wait, you could have just done that this entire time and we could have escaped this fucking island? We've been doing challenges and shit and this wizard of a man could have just teleported us to safety? What is this sick game?" decried Golden.

"It's like mafia, only not," shrugged Scotty.

"I’ll read the votes. Remember, you're looking for your name to be here."

Re: Final Tribal Council

Someone just brought up a good idea:

If you want to submit a vote with a confessional (meaning, a reasoning behind your vote), I can post those after all the votes are revealed too. This is entirely optional, of course

Final Tribal Council [END]

FINAL TRIBAL COUNCIL
Image
Hello players, jury, and viewers. Welcome to the Final Tribal Council!

In this thread, the final three contestants will plead their case to the jury as to why they deserve to be the sole Survivor in Survivor: Mafia, and the Jury members will address the players in their first chance since being voted out.

The final three players are:

Opt_Outside
Quin
Sorsha

The Jury is as follows:
notsawyer540
Epignosis
insertnamehere
speedchuck
DFaraday
S~V~S
Golden
Elohcin
LoRab

Here's how this will work:
The final three may speak as much as they want in this thread: as little or as much as they find appropriate in explaining themselves and their game. Every player had a different game. Show the jury why yours is unique and worthy of their vote.

The Jury is limited to addressing each player (Opt_Outside, Quin or Sorsha) once. This can be all in one post, or in a maximum of three (one person per post). As previously instructed, you may ask a question, make a comment, or do neither to a player. Hell, you may have already made up your mind, and that's fine. But this is your chance to get clarity from players you may be unsure about.

The final 3 players may respond to any and all questions directed at them, but the jury members may not follow up to address the same player. If an answer from one player influences the question the jury would have for another player, then that is fine, provided he or she hasn't already asked that other player a question. It is probably in the best interest of the Final 3 to answer questions from the jury.

In this final tribal council,
the jury will be voting for who they want to WIN the game.

As usual I ask that non/dead players do not post, and that jury members adhere to their posting limits.

Game will conclude by either Midnight PST (in 24 hours) today or as soon as I have received all jury votes, whichever comes first. Either way, a winner will be decided by the end of the day.

Good luck players!
