Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (End Game)

Well I forgot this game was still going on. Congrats to the winners, and holy hell great job keeping up with everything, hosts! I can't imagine the clusterfuck that was occurring on a daily basis.

I had no idea who my Ahriman teammates were. I figured Sorsha was later on, but it also pisses me off that I, IMO, led the lynches for both Wilgy and Synonym. I mean, just of course. I'm sorry guys.

I was recruited on Day 3 sending in to that random story contest. I tried to hint at my rezzing ability in the story, so I guess that maybe helped. But then when I was recruited by Ahriman I don't know what to do. I actually felt even more alone, and felt like I had more of a target on my back. When Synonym was lynched I felt horrible. But how the hell am I supposed to know in a game with 20-odd neutrals. That was the hardest part of baddie hunting, is people were laying low, or being vague as shit about things and I was operating under the mindset that this was a baddie trait. Honestly, I became so intoxicated and exhausted with the game that it was getting unhealthy. I'm kind of glad I got killed when I did, since it got me back on track, which is real life. Real life is more important. Mafia is fun and all, but this was like anti-therapy for me.

One thing I was proud of was how close I got to making my epic challenge. Oh man. I was rolling with the punches.

My epic challenge was: If i auto rezz then i can auto rezz into a different role of a night killed player.
Which meant that I had to die in position 3. I almost had it on night 7.
I was hungered on day 4 which made me work to kill JJJ in 3 days or I would die. I didn't want to do so since I didn't think he was bad. So I worked around it to push for position 3 on day 7, and got it, so I was set as long as JJJ didn't die before then. :disappoint:

Deathmask Shaman - Scotty
-- What was your epic challenge?
See above
-- No dead role check on N1, I assume
Nope. No lynch on day 1, so nothing to do.
-- No rezz on D/N2, I see.
Had no reads on anyone. Plus I was u recruited still, so no need.
-- What dead power did you use D/N4?
Pretty much only able to use Golden's power, so I tried to meddle with the votes, but it didn't matter because lynch switch.
-- Who did you have BTSC with D/N5?
I picked MP because I didn't read him as bad. Unrecruited, he was. Nice talking with him, but the only thing I learned was that he killed unfurl, when Ubzergan wanted Mp dead.
-- Thanks for the rezz again!
Lol you're welcome. I had no info on anyone at the time and wanted to get a rezz in on someone I thought was civ before I died. Turns out you were, even if you didn't know it :p
-- Who did you role check on D/N8?
Tried to check SVS, but was blocked.
-- Who did you BTSC with D/N9?
Wilgy.
I got some good info from him, learned that Caelia was already dead, and that Dom was the last remaining person on his BTSC team. That was discouraging. Also I misread which team he was on originally and thought he was on Ahriman. That was a boneheaded thing lol. Was planning on rezzing him or Epi the the day after I died. But I died, so didn't get to it. Sorry Wilgy! And thanks for chatting with me!
-- Did you use any dead power before dying D/N10?
I only used the 2 I mentioned. Not enough times in position 2.

No. Do you think lorab was?
Interesting thought. If LR was bad I can see her wanting to keep Rico around in case the TH stuff doesn't work out. If their earlier back and forth is anything to go by people wouldn't touch their discussion with a 10 ft pole. Therefore I am leaning no.
Keep in mind LoRab was on Rico's ass the day before he died, and when he was rezz'd, I seem to remember LoRab held back a bit. Besides you, aapje, I would equate LoRab as the biggest detractor of Rico in the game as a whole.

Also, is the LoRab/TH thing still going on? Those 2 sort of stopped looking at each other like a disgruntled couple after 25 years of loveless marriage. She hasn't been pushing either Rico or TH of late. Why is that?
I still suspect both of them (although I'm clearly not going to be pushing Rico anymore). I haven't been pushing anyone of late--mainlybecause game time has been limited and I haven't had time to make big posts--Jewish holidays, start of school year, spent today in DC at a rally and lobbying on capitol hill...not excuses, and I've still been paying close attention, but my posting has been limited in general.
That's fair. I'm in the same boat- except for the whole Jewish holidays, start of school year, and rallying and lobbying in DC. Pretty much the same boat tho

But I agree with apples that even the most neutral of neutrals need to essentially play as civvies now, because all the kills floating around are not great for the neutral win con, and helping the Cubs find the killers means we're less likely to be both nk'd and lynched....
But since I've been neutrality grand central for the game thus far, I'm a bit hooped for actually forming opinions on who's bad......damn my laziness-disguised-as-neutrality!

All that to say, I want to look at bea. She just has not been Civ bea this game AT ALL, and I think that the guilty conscience she's feeling and all her apologies stem from feeling like she's letting her teammates down. I haven't done a read-through of her yet, so no idea if I suspect her of one team more than the other yet....but my gut says baddie bea is afoot, and I need to follow my gut (if only as an attempt to get my head actually into the game....)
Did you mean to say that your laziness is disguised as neutral? Because that's what you just said. Makes it sound like you've been playing neutral, but not actually neutral.

Also, I would argue that you have looked opinionated all game. I don't know why you seem to think you haven't been.
Yes, I meant to say that I have been using the fact of my neutrality to disguise what, in any other game, would have looked like sheer laziness. This does not "make it sound like I've been playing neutral, but not actually neutral".... it makes it sound as if I've been using my neutrality opportunistically to not have to actually stick my head too deeply into the game.

Also, as regards my opinionatedness or lack thereof, I would argue that my impression of my own mindset at any given time is likely more accurate than your impression of my mindset, especially since I think you've played with me once before.....But hey, you do you, bae. ;)

What are your thoughts on bea, since you completely ignored that part of my post? :keys:
I just learned what bae was yesterday. I feel old.

The phrasing was important to me in understanding. For example, a sheep wearing wolf's clothing is different than a wolf wearing sheep's clothing. Neutrality disguised as laziness ≠ Laziness disguised as neutrality. To me anyway.

But like, I get your point. That was just my impression.

You have been pushing that neutral card for a while. And I think you have stuck out your neck a bit at times. Your reads haven't been often, but they have been thorough and reasoned. I daresay that's pretty opinionated, madam.

As for your bea suspicions, I saw them. I have had bea on my radar for days now, but don't know how to commit to giving any kind of read to her. It's mostly been "I'm busy" or "I'm making pizza lol" or "The store just burned down" and various and sundry excuses. I don't know if I buy her excuses as a means of apologizing to her teammates. Aren't we feeling that civ numbers are down? What do the baddies have to complain about? We haven't even lynched an Azura team member!

looking at Wilgy and Synonym interactions and voting patterns might be a good way to start weeding through who might be bad. Especially considering Wilgy's pattern. On phone right now, but he mentioned in one of his last posts to "lynch SVS, llama, possibly Tranq and bea"

3 different positions, by 4 different sources. lol What in the fuck are you? Jesus?

So let's look at the Immortal for a sec. He has been recruited. We knew that Day 2. This means he can't be killed until he is the last of his group.

IF DH is The Immortal, it would be insane, and I mean INSANE odds that of the randomly chosen players to either protect, kill or block, that he was chosen as his own target.

Who are you agreeing with? Other than the restart, the Judge's actions point toward being a Caelia recruit. How is the restart not civ-like? For all we know, the Judge was made aware of how Night 9 would play out, and hit the reset button in order to make changes on his/her end hoping for a better result. I don't think that's indicative of civ or baddie action in and of itself.
I missed this point- I think that is also a possibility. Though I'm not sure how this would make the Judge necessarily a Caelia recruit.

I have no idea what this means :derp: Are you saying you still agree with Roxy's post?
Look at it this way- we technically are repeating the same night, but theoretically could be experiencing two different nights, with double targeting. I mean, it's possible, right? I'm very unsure about what purpose the restarting day/night cycle does that benefits anyone if used before the Night results aside from additional time and/or extra targeting opportunities. So in that sense, yes I agree with Roxy's questioning about the night.

Like, is there a power that is a one-time use in the night, received before the night post?

He actually reads genuine to me, which has me scratching my head if he really is unrecruited what the rezzer had in mind.
to big fat eyeballing.

Again, if anyone feels there's no way a rezz could have happened in lack of any affiliation between the rezzer and the rezz'd, you and aapje and anyone else reading it that will have a big surprise at the end of all this (whether I'm lynched or at endgame). On the bright side, you'll have this result as future reference that not all meta is one-dimensional.

I don't have what to defend when people rely on such empirical meta or rhetorical questions. I've said all I know about my rezz and status and I am truthful about it. Not trusting that is fine and natural for the gameplay. But from there on, players should use the proper tools to determine that I'm lying or that I'm bad. Determine if I've been recruited before the rezz. Determine the Shaman is bad-aligned. Determine if I've been recruited by the baddies.

As for the fooling, yes, I am aware that my meta will probably come to bite me back and compromise at least a few of my games purely because players will bring the "wait a minute. what if Rico is fooling us again" argument as soon as I'll keep progressing deep into a game and have little suspicion on me (which frankly isn't exactly the case here; I've had LoRab drumming on me for six Days now and aapje for roughly two; I wasn't sussed in Watchmen at all, except for "what ifs"). You want to test that and ruin my current game, because of retribution? Can't stop you there, but that'll be the outcome this time around.

I've been handed out more mafia/indy roles than civ so far and I've only won as mafia/indy thus far, so yeah, sucky legacy whenever I have to play civ for realz, what can I say. But that's just reality, there's nothing I can do about that. The thing is, the "civviest" I've been under a facade is also the "civviest" I can be, period. I can't play "civvier" than that. I can't push myself beyond this much baddie hunting and reading.

As for right now, I'll say it again, my status is that of an unrecruited, which means I have to survive the game, but I don't need to fool any side for any purpose. My mindset is that I desire to be recruited by the civs, to shed a survivor win con which I'm not optimistic one bit I'll achieve, and in that I'm baddie hunting. I believe I've proven the latter, even though I've had a huge failure recently. Team Azura killed me and I've been attacking Uzbekistan head on. How can that inspire any real belief that I'm involved with either?
Rico, I haven't put a hat on what you are yet. I said previously that I was scratching my head on the impetus to rezz someone if he wasn't on the same team. I know you've talked at lengths to figure it out yourself, since you are still claiming unrecruited. I haven't changed my view that your writing has felt genuine to me, but even a recruited would be stupid to come out and say "yes I'm recruited". What other reason could the rezzer have in rezzing you? I just don't get it.

I thought maybe you were the SK for a bit, but that wouldn't make sense to be rezzed.

I feel that you could be either good or bad, which is why I'm wholly trepidatious about the whole thing. You are baddie hunting, but I would expect the bad teams to be baddie hunting too. And I am still unconsciously seething over the bamboozlement last game. I actually haven't seen your mafia game- only your indie game- but even then I would say this is as a close a game as any to be playing as an indie-minded.

All of this is predicated on the Rezzer not being a random nutjob, and just rezzing for the sake of rezzing. Which brings me to:

Who are you agreeing with? Other than the restart, the Judge's actions point toward being a Caelia recruit. How is the restart not civ-like? For all we know, the Judge was made aware of how Night 9 would play out, and hit the reset button in order to make changes on his/her end hoping for a better result. I don't think that's indicative of civ or baddie action in and of itself.

You're also mischaracterizing my point about Ubola using his thread lock and lynch switch (why wouldn't a baddie use those?) and applying it across all roles and alignments, a point I've never made.

One could say you've been playing a particularly careful game compared to your usual meta as well. :ponder:
I was agreeing with Roxy's post:
Roxy wrote:Hrm is the judge recruited now? Wanting 2 nights does not feel very civvie.
As far as misinterpreting you, I apologize. I had it in my head that you were qualifying that point about every role using powers willy-nilly, which I think was during one of my barrages into you a few days ago.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Night 9 2.0)

Dejavu Night aside, this game has gone on for quite some time. It will have been a month come Friday, and not even half of us have died!

DH, do you really want to die, or do you really want to not die? You couldn't be more ambiguous if you wore trousers, a bowl cut and your name was Pat.

As far as Rico is concerned, I've been cautiously optimistic, but his rez is a definite cause for concern, because why else would he be rezz'd unless he was on someone's team? And someone like Rico, who has fooled me once *QUITE HANDILY MIGHT I ADD* in Watchmen, I would be naive to assume he would be in the civ camp. I agree that the Judge does not seem very civ-like. Ignoring TH's potential argument again of just using a power for the sake of using a power, the only reason I can see for doing so is if the Judge was busy today and wanted another day to catch up. (Llama, is that you?)

I'm also looking more through Wilgy's and Syn's interactions to see if I can draw any better conclusions, since they are our main civ reference point.

Dammit. Not Ubztoucan.

I knew we were probably at a loss there with such a huge bandwagon. I mean, of course he isn't recruited. Of course :suspish:

Also, being insane is annoying. I can only imagine Canuck's ire.

I placed my vote on LoRab because over the course of this game, she hasn't ever addressed me directly as far as I know. Yes, she seemed to have a knack for translation, but why did she feel the need to do so at that point? Like, I've been pretty wrong all game, so why now is she so interested in what I have to say, considering she's never backed me up or tried to reason with me at all thus far?

Notable moodswings:
-- picks on Canuck, but nut Nutella
-- activity gone cold

Meta notes: would recruit in balanced way

Really unsure about her, her activity has gone real cold, with only moments of jumping on a case or stance and keeping pressure on that for the entire Day. Neither this, nor her previous "big posts", make me comfortable, because she really has an unlucky meta this past year of doing that as a blendy, but focused baddie (Death Note, Guess Who). Overall, if people are looking into under-the-radar players, I think they should read and make up their mind about SD in particular.

I think both her and LoRab's "playing for the civ cause" angle and demands are a bit twitchy, I think her big stance to treat this as a "civ vs bad" only refers to how the view will look in the end of the game, yet she eyeballed (and even voted) players like Canuck or timmer for their neutrality credo. Later on, she understands, instead, nutella's choice of keeping the distance. She wobbled re: Sorsha as well, from calling her "civ vigi killed Epi" ideas far-fetched to taking her off the hook for a one-liner rebuttal to SVS sounding genuine. Similarly, she never criticises Bubbles for her indecisiveness, but the next Day I think she was among the first to call her lynch reaction off. There is a part of that that makes me wonder if Bubbles wasn't her teammate and she had to readjust real quick to the lynch switch and to buss TB.

D8, considers voting SVS why? Voted Syn why? Mirrored Wilgy reluctance why?

Idk, these are kinda real pinges and not being able to give a verdict on her gameplay sort of unsettles me. Her sink in activity could be a recruited moodswing or a desire to stay low as unrecruited.
First of all, my gameplay is pretty much the same regardless, people just remember me fooling them in Death Note. In Guess Who I died like Day 2 or 3 when I was lynched. oh yeah, I really flew under the radar then. I did not find bubbles indecisiveness weird, I did find her reaction after her lynch save to be very weird. That is all there is to that, I'm not her teammate and I wasn't bussing her. I truly found her suspicious. I have reasons for not explaining my suspicions about Scotty. I think anyone with a civ minded outlook would understand why without me explaining what he said that was so suspicious. my activity has gone quieter because I have had a busier schedule of late, that's all. Working more second shifts which is when most of the rest of you guys are at home, playing mafia.
