I don't know him to be an inactive mafia member. I would expect less concerted effort than I saw from him though with Internet problems hampering him if he didn't have a vested interest in figuring out the game.
And if his vested interest was on winning the game via not beinf lynched day 1 as mafia?

Three times, maybe. My impression from those games is that he doesn't care about his process as long as he catches scum. I've never seen a scum game he's lived more than one day in, though I'd guess it's the same thing.

I would expect less concerted effort than I saw from him though with Internet problems hampering him if he didn't have a vested interest in figuring out the game. I think his posts bear that appearance too, even without necessarily being great and insightful. Granted, if this Internet issue was the only thing I liked about Quin I probably wouldn't have found the same inspiration to change my mind about him. It was one point among a few.

If you want to hang out in the tunnel for a while, be my guest. I've moved on for the time being.
I'm not tunneling Jimmy. That's unfair and for someone who influences most of the play to say that is not appropriate. I have made reads on a lot of players and I have given quin lots of time to change my mind too.

No I read your entire iso before I arrived at the conclusion that you are suspicious. I see you finally have a potential scum read though so that's good. A shame that it's the world's most blatant no u.

It is a very easy way to move the dialogue away from the topic at hand and you have given me no reason for why you chose those four names. we don't have to change the subject but I still want an answer from you

knowing your current reads on those four players helps me assess your motivation
I question you are genuinely trying to solve anything given you have asked me to provide reads on two players that if anyone was genuinely paying attention would know my position on. Given that I question your motives for asking I will refrain. I hope you understand.

In a vacuum, absolutely yes. Mafia members slank off more in general, and when the universe hands them an excuse to do it free of judgment, many of them are going to be very pleased -- even those who've been under some pressure. Also consider the character of Quin's involvement in this period of connectivity issues: is he merely fending off accusations and assure survival, or is he attempting to solve the game?
And do you know Quin to be an inactive mafia member? I consider him one of the finer and more confident mafia members I have ever had the pleasure of teaming with.

I would say that the value is limited. It might serve as a baseline in the absence of any known personality or play style (like if I am playing on a new site or judging a newcomer from another site). I don't hold other players to my own standards if I already know they don't play the way I do, because other players generally aren't hopelessly competitive and obsessive like I can be. That's to their credit.

One of the reasons I was screaming was Quin's handling of his other accuser, Golden. I thought it looked terrible and I lynched him and he was a civilian. Looking back now at Day 0 of this game, I was screaming at him at least in part for his handling of an accuser (me) and his general obstinate reception of that felt familiar.
A good argument against your own logic. Says nothing about his alignment. I would say his response to our assault in the early game is just how he would respond either way.

Has anyone actually made this point? 3J considered the effort in finding alternative ways to access the game thread, not my level of participation as a result of my lack of internet.
How is that not the same thing? Would you not seek out said alternatives in order to maintain participation?
3J did not say "wow quin looks good because even though his internet sucks he's posting a lot". 3J said "wow quin looks good because he went through the effort of getting internet access so he could participate whereas a mafia might not be as motivated to do that. also he's just such a cool person i could never seriously scumread him"

That is how they are different.
Okay so you are arguing what?

Jimmy said it how you said it. I believe implying what I stated. I disagree either way. I believe the average player would be more inclined to do that as a mafia player under pressure than a civ.

On a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is mafia and 10 is civ that post is a 3.

nutella wrote: Sat Jan 13, 2018 8:19 pm I'm fairly occupied today (and will be tomorrow as well) so I'm keeping up with the thread but not putting a lot of time into analysis or anything. I feel better about Quin every time he posts so I don't think I'll be voting there. I haven't gotten the most stellar vibes from LC, speedchuck, or Tony, so I might go with one of those, though the votes are already pretty spread out. Looking at the player list I get the feeling we've only been talking about a subset of players, mostly those who have had more presence in the thread, and naturally most of the higher posters look more townie... idk, day 1 always feels like this and I wish I had more confident thoughts on anyone but I really don't. If I have more time later tonight I might try a rainbow but it'll be mostly yellow.
This one fyi.

I just read her iso thought and high level she reads distracted town so I will look for someone else.

three questions first:
1. Thoughts on Nutella
2. Why did you vote Dave
3. Why are you now voting Nutella
Nutella pinged me with a recent post. Jimmy is voting for him and I don't feel strongly about anyone else. I voted Dave because he pinged me and I was hoping my voting him would provoke him into showing something.

Why did you follow my vote to Dave and then my vote to nutella? And why do you have me bottom of your reads and why have you not explained yourself.

most of the people who have posted so far look civ so far, but then most of them are the people who always look civ to me. Sloonei's alternate interpretation of Quin is interesting though and Quin is someone I'm always waffly on. :ponder:

Made is zany as usual. Not sure what he's on about but I think he's just being Made.

Out of the so-far-civ-reads I think my strongest 3 are Sloonei, Kyle, and Jack. They're safe from my D1 vote at this point unless something changes.

oh and welcome new people! I'm getting tired of reading posts from the same 6-7 people so let's see some thoughts k
Interesting that you hen picked who to make reads on/comment on after starting the post like you were about to skim read everybody.
Not sure what you mean by this? I read the whole thread before writing this post. This was just a summary of my thoughts on people as I was reading. What did I say that made you think I was "about to skim read everybody"?
The start of your post made me feel like you were going to comment on everybody but then you just commented on a few. Seemed to restrain yourself.

You selected that list of players because you are familiar with all the other players?
yes. I chose you and the other 6 because I've never played with you before. I'd like to know your mafia background and some basic facts that might explain your behavior in general.

for an example of why this is important.... I'd expect a player who's never played with Dr. Wilgy to find different behaviors of his suspicious than a player who's never met him.

Alternately if a player I assumed didn't know anyone here suddenly had a strong read on another player it would be important to know that those two players both came from the same discussion forum and have played multiple games together.
So you've played with everybody else?
Kylemii wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2018 9:11 pm could you each briefly summarize your past mafia playing history? How long have you been playing for? What site are you from? Have you played on the syndicate before? If no, are there any players in this game you have prior experience playing with?
I have been playing since 2011. I've played primarily on RYM but also a bit of Mafiascum and Somethingawful.com and over the last couple of years exclusively here. Haven't played since May.

birdwithteeth11 - Played a few games here, have very little recollection of meta.
Dave - Never played with.
Dom - Played several games here with Dom and have had significant interactions with him.
DrWilgy - Played several games here with Wilgy and have had significant interactions with him.
Elohcin - Played several games here with Elo and have had a bit of interaction.
Glorfindel - Played a few here with Glorf and have had a bit of interaction.
Gumshoe - I may have played one game with Gumshoe but relatively unfamiliar.
Jackofhearts2005 - Played a few games together with not much significant meta.
JaggedJimmyJay - Have played dozens of games with Jimmy as we were both from RYMafia. I taught him everything he knows. :haha:
Kylemii - Limited exposure.
lapluie - Might have played a game but not sure.
Long Con - Played quite a bit with Long Con. I think Long Con has a stronger feel for me than I do for him though.
Made - Played a little bit with Made but not a lot of meta to go by.
Marmot - Played heaps with Marmot and have had several significant interactions.
novaselinenever - Never played with.
nutella - Played quite a few games with nutella.
Quin - Played a shitload with Quin.
sig - Played heaps with sig.
Simon - Relatively unfamiliar with Simon but have played a couple games.
Sloonei - Sloonei is RYMFam from way back. We called him Darth Sloonei.
speedchuck - One or two games together.
TonyStarkPrime - Very limited exposure.

I'm going to prove to you that Sloonei is bad this game. I have a real good feeling about that. He is bad an I'm a doctor!
Also Made has wilgy as his second strongest town read on the strength of this post and nothing else (wilgy's only other contribution at the time of made's rainbow was an OT comment about jack's avatar). I guess I overlooked this post when I was discussing Made's observation about heat on me, but I don't really take this seriously since it doesn't seem like wilgy's expressing an actual suspicion of me, rather he's just shaking his fist at me for having close to 50 posts on Day 0. I'd shake my fist at me too. That's ridiculous.
I don't understand any of Made's reads, I guess, but that doesn't stop me from liking that they exist at this point.
Why did it take you so long to comment on this? Why did you provide a reason other than suspicion when I said I was suspicious of you?
Considering that speed to comment on direct accusations is an issue for you I would ask why you completely ignored this post...

Wow you're really going to tunnel him straight out the gate aren't you... uninterested in genuinely finding bad guys and instead more interested in just getting Sloonei lynched? The question is whether you were genuinely pinged by him and now just want to feel great about your bad guy hunting skill or whether you are just fake hunting as a scum guy. Could be possible hard distancing as scum teammates... I would totally expect that of you two so that's gotta be on the table.
