I see we already have votes, not even halfway through the Day. Good thing we don't have any lockdown, ey? :p

I'm gonna to try to catch up for this evening, but I'm fairly tired. Also, for the record, I'm almost certain I'll adopt a more freestyle play for Recruitement. With the load of RL work I'll have the following weeks and this game being so large and complex, my "analysis machine", as MP once put it, will most certainly malfunction.

Did anyone answer my questions about Typhoony?
I can, if you like. I was not sure than many of them were not rhetorical.

Any member of any clan can be recruited to any team, so knowledge of his clan only does not mean much. His posts read pretty civvie to me, or unrecruited, and I think I read Typh rather well. I would like to see people rezzed on the basis of what they say, if their recruiting status is unknown, than by their assigned clan. But there may be more confirmed people able to be rezzed, so i don't want to see anyone rezzed just yet.

I think the odds of anyone being Azura is 1 in 32 (or is it 34?). Based on his posts I don't think he was. He made posts longer than just a few words, and they were all pretty sensible and straight to the point. For me this is the mark of a non bad Typhoony. Plus I doubt he would kill a very vocal player who was part of a thread distraction as Epi was.

And I think a smart player can use any power to the advantage of any team. Regardless if he was a more powerful or less powerful sorcerer, he would have found the way to extract the most value from his role.

I've already addressed this, in quite thorough detail...
I would imagine quite a few people are going to ask for an explanation of this seeming dichotomy. You might want to have your original explanation in cut & paste. I would not mind hearing it again.

Scary or not, I have to agree with MPs list to a large extent becasue this is the first game he's played in a while. I would add DP to that list due to RM3.

And probably the former, we all have a clan. Just not a team.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 2)

Yes, although the story sounds like baddies killed Epi. But he said he was baiting them to kill him. He thought Epi was on a baddie team. So he had to be baiting the baddie team that he thought Epi was NOT on. If it was the Night 2 team, the baiting would be pointless.

I just never heard anyone say anything like that, I guess.

Yeah, but if he was baiting them to kill Epi ASAP, how did he know that the team Epi wasn't on was the one who killed night one? I was one of the people who thought Golden sounded genuine, but that post was messed up.

Please do. I'm confident in my checks through everyone's posts (those I needed to check), but the results weren't what I expected. There was so much chatter about BWT, I thought he would have had the most votes, not unfurl.
One thing I noticed when following along was how long it took for the remainder of the bet votes to pile on. I'm not surprised at all that mine was the only one to go through if the day ended at 5: something.
What do you mean by "bet votes" and what do you mean by your being the "only one to go through"?
My guess is that "bet" means "bwt" (w & e next to each other, and autocorrect for the lose) which was how I read it. The rest of it, I have no clue.

Ricochet wrote:So my theory so far is shaping up like this:

if the stats are correct that a 1-vote 11-player tie took place and a player gets lynched through randomization, then it must mean the player who got lynched survived the lynch, according to his position 1

ergo any of the following players (BWT, Canuck, Epignosis, Golden, MP, Russ, SVS, Tranq, Unfurl, Wilgy - I'm not, but feel free to throw me in as well; I would have super dead and super pissed if I would have been lynched or if the Day would have ended with me having two votes) can be:

Ubzargan the Ruthless - Immune to NK/Lynch
Jilted Lover - Can’t die as long as ? alive

I don't believe that Lord of Thunder's +/-3 votes would have changed this situation, if he already manipulated something by the time the Day ended. either he added votes and then there is definitely a specific survivor, which Lordy may now choose to try to hint at; either he substracted votes and it's still a large pool of tied players and the theory above still applies, but with vague chances of pinpointing at anyone in particular

same with Windscout, we don't know how many votes he can take down, but I doubt it's up to 10

I'm not sure if The Immortal's random power can activate during the Day, but even if it can, it's really a stretch to imagine that he protected someone that early and the stars aligned so that the one person he randomly protected was the one person that randomly got lynched; plus, we haven't seen a second death

same with Terras. can he protect during the Day? if so, same stretch of the imagination

If I missed anything, let me know, but so far I believe this to be the conclusion: our non-lynched player today is Uzbargan or the Jilted Lover. unfortunately we have 11 candidates for this spot
You left out Master of Shadows:
Master of Shadows - Warrior of the Shadows

Position 1: Choose your own position
Position 2: You may post in the thread as your role
Position 3: Follow a player in the shadows and see who that player targets, affect the outcome.
Position 4: Cast a shadow on a player, all votes for that player will be cut in half
Position 5: Become a shadow, you can’t be night targeted and all votes for you will not count

I have a slight gut read that SVS has some power in this game, and I don't like it. So nothing against you, SVS, but you got my vote day 1.
Scotty has never played a RM before. Scotty assumed everyone is vanilla like in previous games. Scotty would not know about this. Scotty must have been told about this.
Unless I am misinterpreting the highlighted line...

Additionally, this is a huge contradiction. "Random vote"-->I think SVS is bad???
Ah, I see Dom was needling in on me. Fair enough, it was a little contradictory. Here's the longer explanation now that I'm not as rushed.

Because I don't see the use in complete random, my randomization was not so much random on the scale of the entire list of players, but a list of players that had more content-filled posts. Unlike the Day 0/1's from previous games, I didn't feel like looking at MIAs for the first lynch. It was theorized by numerous people throughout the day who had a better chance to recruit and who would be recruited. I don't think a recruiter would pick someone with a very low post count. Maybe someone with a slightly low count to remain hidden, sure. But someone like, say, DFaraday I don't see as Recruiter or Recruitee.

I looked at the big talkers that had recruiting strategies- Epi and Golden and their spat didn't stand out to me as recruiters/recruitees. MP, SVS, JJJ, birdwithteeth, Rico, etc were in the mix. But I had no real inclination between those, though I figured one of them maybe had some sort of overarching, suspicious recruiting method. SVS stood out to me early on for her recruiting strategy of someone that was smarter than her, works well as a team player and could swim under the radar. She seemed to really know what she was talking about, and that would scare me if she were the recruiter. But I really could have voted any of them. So I guess it was random in the sense that I just picked one that didn't seem to be causing too much of a ruckus or on anyone's radar. In the end, it's a day 1 vote.

Also I don't have any idea what you're talking about with me "clearly in BTSC". I think you've got that aluminum foil hat on a little too tight. When I say "power" of course I don't mean abilities. I'm stupid, but not that stupid. (Though I did watch the rain with my head tilted up and my mouth open as a child.)
I guess power wasnt the best word choice in hindsight, but I was rushing off to work. Think of it more as "regard" or "esteem".

"Scotty assumed everyone is vanilla like in previous game"
wtf? When did I say that? Oh, I didn't. Please don't put words in my mouth, Dom. I'm only a child at heart, not by intelligence or temperament.

It's true that I'm not used to this type of game, but I'm learning as I go.

Now I sleep. Good night, and most likely see you all for day 2 tomorrow when I get off work at 11p est
Thank you for this, Scotty. This I can get behind. I have done similar things myself, eliminated people i did not suspect, and randomized between those that pinged me. So it's random, but it's not.

And I DO know alot about recruiting in Mafia, and have thought about it alot. I have played all four of BR & LCs Recruitment games (including this one), and was a recruiter in two of them. I have played in maybe a dozen games where recruiting was a major element. Every game I have hosted has involved recruiting, although not like THIS game. I have also had amazing teams; teams where the BTS itself was so much fun, and so close to perfect, that I know EXACTLY what I want in a team, and I hope to get it every game. It's the main reason I tend to prefer baddie roles, becasue they come with BTSC, and this next team might be the one. Although, tbh, nothing is better than civvie BTS. My favorite game ever was Sword of Truth on The Piano; I was a civvie, Kahlan, and I recruited a player, Typhoony, and what he brought to the table totally changed the dynamic of the game. We lost, but it still was my best game, and I always am trying to recreate that atmosphere if I can. So yeah, I know what I am looking for in a recruit, and like Bea said, it should ALWAYS be people you think are smarter than you, lol.

Linki, ah charts.

I have a bunch of things to do today, then I have a D & D game this after noon, so I won't be around much. Toodles.

Also, the recruiter still has control...

@JJ - I think he perceives a logical inconsistency in my posts where there is none, whereas I actually found a logical inconsistency in his posts which actually exists. I think any indicator that someone can't keep their thoughts straight is an indicator that their thoughts may not be genuine, and I see it as inherently negative.

@rey - having a dialogue with JJ regularly helps me interpret my own thoughts.
Are you serious? It's one specific recruitment, yes..but it sets a precedent. It tells us that the recruiters will not have 100% control over who they recruit every time. Therefore, you cannot be so sure that you will never end up on a team with Epig. FFS man. Are you really going to play this dumb on this?
Golden I have played all of them & Rey is 100% correct. We had control the first one or two recruits, but most of them were "submit a poem" or "submit a picture". Or " Write a paragraph telling us why you would be an amazing member of our team". And we picked blindly based on that kind of thing. When I was a civ recruiter, after the first 2 ( a group of 3) we did not know who we recruited, although we figured it out in some cases. When it was Rey & I recruiting in the third game, we had no idea who we were getting until we got the PM.

Re: Recruitment Mafia IV: Dawn of the Clans (Day 1)

When the arguments in favor of lynching a specific person include picayune semantics like the use of but or because; or if they turn around fine points such as , did a person actually say something or was he just appearing to actually say something, sorry buckaroos, but I am not going there.

Unless Golden started out on someones short list, or is a recruiter himself, I don't see him applying for baddie positions in the various contests that the host is likely to have, based on prior experience with their games. I also think that, based on odds, he is as unlikley to have started out as a baddie recruiter as anyone else, 2 people out of 30ish? I know that if i was a baddie recruiter, I would not put Golden on an initial 3 person list because he has often said he strongly prefers being a civ, and I would not recruit someone who would be unhappy to be recruited, someone who would have preferred to be on another team. I know not everyone thinks like me, but I will assume that some do. So I think that the odds of Golden finishing the game as a civ or a neutral are somewhat higher than for most people. There are a lot of "ifs" in what I just said, and any of then could be wrong. The weakest link, imo, is the supposition that baddies would be less likley to recruit him. Perhaps if they were not as familiar with him as I am, or if they did not care about his preferences.

But for me, it is enough, and based on this I do not want to vote for Golden at this time.

Work calls even though we have an official flash flood warning where I live, so i am leaving a bit early. I hope not to see updates about DHs poop when I get back tonight :stare:

When I was Jelly King Earl, Supreme Lord of Purpleosity (I think that was my role...but maybe I was just an early recruit to the jelly team? My memory is fucked..) my entire game plan was about fun maximization. I recruited solely based on how funny people's posts were. I don't think my in-thread play differed much (I'm always kind of a sarcastic/goofy asshole)...but I think I was definitely more engaged in the thread than was typical for me at the time
I don't know Typh. You were on my team. Do you think I played differently? I try to play the same from game to game. I do remember that Epi called out what happened with my role (I died early and was rezzed into a secret role.) And for awhlle I was able to brush it off but as more and more civ recruits were rezzed, it was more and more difficult to defend against the truth of Epi's argument. Killing him didn't help anything even though you and Tranq both though it was the right thing to do at the time (if I am remembering correctly). Eventually, I became as close to an outed baddie as I've ever been. So yea, my play was prolly pretty different when I realized there was nothing I could do to hide anymore.

still on like page 16...
:noble:

I called out Roxy and S~V~S too.
Not before Nutella had called me out first
And I am fairly sure DH called me out first.

I can play the guitar, kill roaches, and say "Have Mercy" like the best of them.
I think you're missing one very important piece of the John Stamos pie, there buddy-o. :p

It's worth it. Especially the part about the fuzzy apricots.

@Dom, I think you make a good point about Bullz. I will read back.
SVS, what do you make of Golden's recent behavior-- especially his NO U on Rob?
The part where he said he wanted Epi dead or God help him felt fairly sincere to me, Golden being a lay preacher and all. As I said initially, Goldens original line of questioning to me did not feel that odd, although I did not love him mentioning specific people as examples.

I think that sometimes when you are frustrated it is easy to turn on your persecutor, especially if YOU perceive their argument to be ridiculous. But I really disliked him bringing up specific people as examples of what baddies might find desirable in a recruit.

And yeah, it's the hair.

unfurl? I look forward to hearing why.

No sir. This is the entire backbone of my case. It's not about what you asked, or S~V~S, or any of that. It's not about questions. It's that green and brown colored shit up there.

People can poo-poo it if they like. I think you are a recruiter based on THAT right there alone.

But do you have reason to believe he is a BADDIE recruiter specifically? Becasue two of the four are benign at worst, good at best.

I have been lucky in my BTS partners in the past, that's for sure. I would recruit any of those guys for both game related and personal reasons. Super competitive, smart, detail oriented and somewhat patient with me asking the same question for the 88th time, lol. Plus just fun guys to hang out with; I have never really had regualr BTS with aapje, but he has basically held my mostly stupid & uncomprehending hand throughout Aces D & D game patiently telling me week after week what my roll should be. I don't think I have ever won with Typh, and I only won with Tranq in Jurassic Park (where we used our lynch switch to save Nutella, a baddie on the other team, and got ALL of those guys lynched, lol, good times). But winning isn't everything.

I play Mafia to have fun playing hard. That said, if any of them are recruiting, they did not recruit me :pout:

@Golden, in the past, the recruit passed down. That's how I got it in the first game, the original recruited was NKed.
I have always counted Lost as a win even though the game never made it to the intended endpoint. :)
OMG, such a fun team :D I was about to get boned there, so  but we were close. I think we talked more about ASOIAF than the game ha ha.And all of those ridiculous chatrooms & Room 23.

I will have to go back & reread DH. He seems to be the ironic, detached persona he has been for some time now. What am I missing?

Got em! JJJ is obviously a baddie tracker

I do hope I am color coding everything appropriately. A question for anyone, on average how long does it take before players start putting in their votes? Is the fact that I voted first when I did unsettling to anybody? If so, then why?
Generally, until recently, we could not change votes, so holding votes till closer to the end was more common. We do both styles now, unchangeable votes, and votes that can be changed. We still tend, overall, though, not to vote early & change often. It is still kind of suspicious, but with the influx of people from other communities, like yours, that perception is changing a bit. You don't know Unfurl, and our community is a bit differnt in that not all of us are as concerned with "solving the game" or playing the same way as each other. I think Unfurl has been acting pretty much like herself~ but you don't know that, so meh.

Day one often turns into a last minute clusterfuck.

Walking into a thread with lots of people talking about you often does not bode well in my experience :p

Still looking for grasping straws, I see. Give up on Tiny Bubbles?
I'd like to know your precise stance on llama ASAP.
My precise stance on llama is pretty much the same as it always is. He can tell you, I am sure, but I don't recall the last time I voted for him when i was a civ. I think Llama plays Mafia for his own amusement, and I am not sure that even he believes that all of the silly, nitpicky reasons he suspects people are true. TBH, I am fairly sure that much of the time he does not. I visualize him saying some of the things he posts out loud, as he drinks his picture perfect scotch on the rocks, and giggling at us silly plebians.

I think that this makes Llama a hard read, but I also think that when he is civ, a bit more of an indignant tone creeps into his defenses (because Llama is always having to defend himself). When he's bad, he sounds a touch more ironic. His suspicions are somewhat more serious when he's bad as well. I have seen a tad more indignant here than irony; I do not think that at the time he said any of that Tiny Bubbles stuff that he was bad, and after him asking to be recruited by the baddies, I don't think he was recruited by the baddies, lol.

Is that specific enough? I am not sure I like to talk as much as you do, but I can go on when I try :D

I have just done a skim catch up, this is the furthest back I have gone. I will do more in depth after dinner.
