Golden wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2017 10:10 pm I don't think your kill choices helped either, although that's less within your control. I baited a kill by throwing your name out there once I suspected it was you, believing that nutella was John and DF was Pamela by that point, and that it kept at least one of the power roles alive another day (I wasn't sure if LoRab was the other one).

One thing that also gets lost in games like this is the utility you can get from the right civilian lynch (although you can never plan it intentionally). Jack's lynch ended up working in the towns favour, we couldn't have narrowed so many things down without knowing timmer was the glow cloud.
To be fair, I'd been wanting you dead for a while. :P Figured you were too smart to be fooled by my civvy act for long.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [ENDGAME]

I lost because of (in my estimation) 4 things.

1. The way I play scum is to legitimately scumhunt, by townfirming people. If I can find just a little bit of misinformation (TSP's surprise false Eloh flip) then I can form a town net. It's chancy, but looks a lot like my town play because scum wouldn't want to make townreads/townfirms. Didn't work out this game.
This cornered me by POE, because...

2. Boomslang killed TSP. If it wasn't for the Tan Man basically claiming, I would have been anti-aligned with Eloh, TSP would be the Tan man, and we would sail through the endgame.

3. Last ditch effort didn't look good on me. I baited the lie detector, betting that he had used his three LDs. I lost that bet. Didn't help that Dom had used his tracking well. We kept too many info roles alive, because...

4. Our scumhunting might have been too earnest. I was legitimately scumhunting as best as I could all game, helping tremendously with nailing LC and narrowing down toward Epi. I wanted to make sure we could pin down the other scum team. Unfortunately, we did too well at that. I'll keep that in mind if I'm scum in a multiple scum team game again. This was my first time doing that.

And for the record Dom, I completely forgot about my pressure on TSP. I'm sure there are other pushes I forgot this game too. :P I don't keep notes.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [ENDGAME]

About the curses!

I'm in mafia games to have fun, and if I can have fun by throwing people around with WIFOM then I'm likely to do that. Sometimes. WIFOM.

When I saw Rico doing his post gimmick, I decided to mess him up. I liked his previous gimmick better, and I wanted some revenge for it, so I forced him to speak in Poppy verse day 2. I know it's not ideal, but this was more fun than pseudo-silencing someone, and I didn't have any reason to limit anyone's speech. This was never supposed to be a thing. But then people started suspecting Blue Velvet folks. Time to blow smoke screens!

With research.

Googling site:mafiathesyndicate.com post gimmick or post limitation or roleplaying helped a lot. That's how I found the games, and I used them to throw people off my trail until they were buried in wine. I hope everyone had fun!

D2: Rico - POPPY verse - Blue Velvet
D3: Dom - Trump, limited to 140 characters - Romance of the Three Kingdoms
D4: Wilgy - Kills self in first post, communicates as diary, ghost, or zombie - Downtown Abbey Mafia
D5: Rico - Rico was being annoying toward TSP, so I disallowed all but pictures he'd already posted. Mean, I know.
D6: Wilgy - Scruffy from Futurama, not allowed to use official syndicate names in posts - Futurama Mafia

I think that's all correct. Let me know what your thoughts were. If anything, I hope I fostered a good time. I don't think it was the reason we lost.

Golden wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2017 5:22 pm My meaningless vote goes on Speedchuck.

Speedchuck was legitimately concerned that a tracker could have seen him targeting Wilgy, in my book. He's trying to explain it away, and the only legitimate explanation is that he's the sheriff targeting Wilgy for protection... which holds a little merit, but not a lot (would anyone really target Wilgy for the kill? Maybe, but he seems one of the least invested at this point, so I'm sceptical.)
No. I was concerned that Dom had tracked Sprit, thus rendering my suspicion of him moot.

But I am assured that Sprit is a town role because of *cage-y reasons*. I have to assuming that we're talking about role related stuff.

Where I come from, talking about a role without being straightforward will often get you lynched or killed. It's called magic bagging. "Hey, I have this role/information, but I'm totally not absolutely claiming it, so nobody can contradict me." In other words "I've got something cool in my magic bag, don't lynch me."

But here, talking about your role will get the mod to kill you, so... yeah.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [DAY 6]

Since I'm probably out of the game, I'll tell you why I was lower effort and not super-hard scumhunting this game, Sprit.

I spend a decent amount of time on my breaks at work looking at the game. During my lunch break, and so on. But one of the guys on my team, a real annoyance, decided without prompting to help me automate a 1 minute process. For convenience.

That automation has taken the last week and a half of him sitting at my desk, over my shoulder, guiding me to recreate the entire effing system for the smallest amount of convenience. I got only the smallest of breaks to catch up on the game, because this guy doesn't eat lunch. I have basically had a coworker over the shoulder for almost two weeks, one that will absolutely call me out for slacking on my unclassified computer.

If I seem frustrated, that's part of the reason. Anyone picking me apart for not keeping notes and following up on everything perfectly is just piss in the wind. The worst part is that we're testing his automated system when we get back to work, and if it doesn't work, this whole thing starts over again.

I can answer that if you like.

...

I, uh, forgot.

On another note, Dom's insistence about Sprit makes me think he's the tracker. No way he would lie. Not at this phase. For all Quin's talk about being careful, I'm pretty sure that there's only one politician left, and no strex. With Jack's assurance on timmer, and TSP's lies. Which means, any liar must be willing to take the blame once wrong, and possibly die tomorrow.

So Dom is the tracker. Sprit probably didn't visit anyone last night. He's not the curse-giver. Wilgy is cecil, wouldn't fake it. All three of those are clear.

Down to Rico, INH, and uhhhh Quin. And me.
I don't know what to say to that. INH is the better choice, since he hasn't been cursed and isn't quin/Neverhere. Should I get lynched today, INH needs to go tomorrow probably. Dom can track one of them and see if a kill/curse happens. That will narrow it down.

Does this all sound right?

Between TSP and INH... I've been more consistently bad-feely about INH, but the TSP case has merit. Not lynching Dom today. Wilgy is a possibility that I need to ISO, perhaps tomorrow.

Wait, are Jack and Golden voting for TSP for completely different reasons? Golden thinks he's a politician, Jack thinks he's Marcus. And there's a legit argument for both.

Sure, Vote TSP.
Speed reads supatown to me. I can't help it! But there's little in there for me to rule him out of being politician.

He did theorise Tony could be Strex. He also correctly guessed timmer could be on politicians. Would he have done either of those if pol with them?
:ponder:

But the above vote post for TSP is perhaps... odd. Speed, why is Tony more palatable for a vote simply because Jack's reasons and my reasons were different? (My reason for voting him - he was too concerned about proving he wasn't Marcus rather than proving he wasn't bad - seem to be correct. Should trust my instincts more.)
You had legitimate reason to think TSP was politician, and Jack had reason to think he's Marcus. If a person has a chance of being on both teams, there's a better chance he's on one.
Just some weird statistical thinking, is all. I'd rather vote for a person who has scummy behavior that can fit on either team than a guy who might be politician because of meta-curse reasons.

Please ask any questions you need to ask. I'm out of town till midafternoon tomorrow, but I'll answer before the poll ends.

D2 Sprit stayed outside of the Dom/Golden spat and said he saw the lynch as a choice between them. Possibly a way to narrow the lynch to two non-teammates. Does suggest moving away from it in the same post, though.

Did vote LC, and decently early. Almost impossible that Sprit is a Strex

Is pro-INH on day 3. Seems to legitimately be a conclusion he came to. Doubt he would go pretend to ISOread INH as a teammate unless prompted.

Anti-epi around the same time

Soft defense of TSP. Votes for Eloh. Expresses distaste for the TSP lynch, blames it on a gut feeling.

While I don't know Sprit's stance on post gimmicks and cursing people to use them, I do know him. The emotional outburst at Jack on D1, and the vote for Rico... I suspect those are 100% genuine.
I've seen more than one Spritsplosion in my time.

Upon ISO, I cannot condone a vote on Sprit. He's not strex, and if Eloh is the dragon, he's probably not politicians. I doubt w/w with INH.

If he's doing weird thing with the Eloh vote, I guess Boomslang could be politician with him, but I find it very unlikely.

Moderate townread.
Sprit looks worse now. Voted for Eloh. Complained about the TSP lynch. Possible he knew what the plan was for the Tan Man claim.
That removes my biggest barrier to him being politician.
I mean, you still don't suddenly look horrible tone-wise, but the alignments I was relying on to read you have changed. You were always more likely to be TSP's scummate than Eloh's.

Haaate being vanilla town.

Willing to protect Rico after blue velvet. Doesn't like votes for Sprit. States WIFOM on Made train, but follows anyway.

Throws some WIFOM on Golden's assessment of his own innocent playstyle.

Guesses that whoever cursed Rico with POPPY would state something publicly against it to distance from the curse.

When asked for reads, INH reiterated in good detail what he thinks of Golden, and also disagrees strongly with Rico's reasons for suspecting INH.

INH makes a rainbow list of people with votes.
INH
Dom
TSP
LC
Golden

Golden is surprisingly low, but he put LC low as well. Then again, I don't think anybody thinks INH is strex.

INH makes good arguments for not being the person who cursed Rico.

INH proposes Boomslang, Sprit, or Eloh instead of the other D2 lynches. Given our suspicion of Eloh, not bad looking.

INH votes for LC for self-defense. Clearly he wasn't really expecting a hit.

INH says he'll look at Epi, TSP, Eloh, and Boomslang.
[?], [Tan Man?], [Politician?], and [scum?] respectively, at least for me.

Continues asking for an actual case on him that doesn't have to do with POPPY or a lack of townreads.

INH mistakes Faceless Lady and LC as being on the same team. Genuine?
He doubles down when Epi gives a cage-y response.

INH gets frustrated with people scumreading him for the stupid curse thing.

INH considers several other people as possible FOLs. Including the people that have been cursed (Which I've been considering as well)

INH talks strategy behind the curses, possibly meant to mislead town.

Rainbow list at that point
INH
Boomslang
JOH
Dom
Sprityo
Timmer
Neverwhere
Wilgy
Lorab
Golden
Speedchuck
TonyStarkPrime
Epignosis
Ricochet
Elochin

INH's read on Rico has changed for the worse. Probably due to the tunnelling Rico has been doing.

Votes Eloh. Do people think INH and Eloh are w/w? Makes good arguments there too

Reacts well to the Eloh lynch IMO.

Readlist:
INH
Boomslang
Sprityo
Quin
Speedchuck
JOH
Dom
Wilgy
Golden
TonyStarkPrime
Epignosis
Ricochet
Proceeds to answer questions about the readlist in a reasonable manner.

Votes Rico

More of the same for D4.
Guys I think INH is town.

Also screw it I'm not ISOing Rico.
Some good stuff and bad stuff here.
We still need someone who was around to curse people, and INH is technically still in the pool of dwindling suspects for that.
He voted Eloh rather than TSP on the TSP lynch.
He's consistently put TSP low on his readlist, but never made a case against him.
The thinking that LC and Faceless Old Lady are on the same team would require faking ignorance. Not sure, again, if that's the meta.
I forget what the really good arguments were for him not being FOL, but that's what I wrote.

High effort analysis of the werid TSP/Eloh lynch. Quin misunderstands how the Glow cloud works.

Asks if Rico is cursed. Beginning to doubt that Quin could be a politician. :P I don't think he'd go for this much wine. Could be wrong.

Golden, how is Quin outed as confirmed town?

Quin makes excellent points about Jack and Epi not targeting themselves. Rules Epi off of one scumteam, Jack off the other.

*reads through the rest*

Quin seems supatown to me.
Ruling out Epi for Strex and Jack for politicians is less excellent if Quin is pol.

Quin being pol would require copious amounts of pretending not to know how pol works. Is Quin likely to do this?
Moreso, was Neverwhere likely to use the curses like pol has? Timmer wasn't here, and TSP has been around about as long as I have.

Unlikely pol

Updating ISOs
speedchuck wrote: Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:42 am Sprit was not that useful D1.

Possible w/w with Boomslang on D1 interactions.

I mean, I'm fine with catching the politician today, but from what I can tell, it looks like the Tan Man inherited the Strex kill. So even if we don't have the politicians all eliminated by tomorrow, we should probably do something about it

Why did you answer for sprit?
Because I like answering questions.

Especially if the answer is obvious, and it seems like people are thinking about getting into a kerfuffle over nothing.

If Jack was scum, this might make sense.

He wasn't. It doesn't.
It makes sense if, like me, you assume Rico was civ. Then, as TSP said, you would've the tiebreaking vote in a civ lynch. And if, as baddie, you had a strong sense that both were civ, you wouldn't want to implicate yourself with either lynch.
Read my later reply to... TSP? Sprit? Someone already followed up.

Re: Welcome to Night Vale Mafia [DAY 5]

Rico is either cursed or fake-cursed today, with something actually limiting. Examining both of those options:

1. Rico has been legit cursed. That would mean that the Politicians have a reason to curse him. Rico has some knowledge that he just got recently. No idea how that's possible, or whether Rico could actually get it across to us even without the curse.

2. Rico is faking it. He is a politician, and has faked two curses while using two other in a weird theme-y way. Pros: Rico is clearly all about the post gimmicks. He's also been blaming INH for being FOL all game, and INH is... not that? I forget why we confirmed that, but I have a good town read on INH. Rico is not being harassed over his use of smilies today.
Con: 2 self-targets with a decently powerful role is bonkers. Then again, politician's whole play is bonkers. Also Golden's argument, which I'm not looking back up right now.
