Pennsylvania is notoriously stingy and whatever little refund I might get in a good year gets mostly or completely eaten up by the e-file fee. This year I ended up owing PA $18 so I mailed my return in.

So yeah, I don't know what I'd have to do to get Alabama off my back, but I've never gotten a good state return.
