The idol is adjacent to 3 palm trees and 5 water sources.

I think this is what we are currently dealing with, unless I misunderstood. So far, I see no reason that the idol couldn't be literally anywhere, but maybe this helps some people.

The river between e3 and b6 is ambiguous enough that the river doesn't has to be in a straight line

Any other clues?
