Alex can attest that I was worried we were handicapping the civilians quite a bit because there was a lot of opportunity for vote manipulation in there. So we tried to balance that with the limitations of the Crooked Cops kills, and with Yin and Yang having the possibility of the kill getting stopped by Shawn each day. We also revealed all the roles for that reason. In the end the vote manipulation did not end up being as large a factor as we anticipated. Yet the fact that we came down to the intense end game that we did, with it really being anyone's game up until the item actions were submitted reassured me about the balance. At first we really thought Epi and Timmer were going to run away with the game. Then INH played masterfully using items like the priceless coin and the pineapple. I thought for sure the Crooked Cops were going to snatch victory in the end game. But then BDH came through like a champ for the civs and pulled out the win. I mean, how insane?! You guys were awesome, you made this a great game to host and were an awesome bunch of players. I think this is the most fun I have had hosting in a very long time!

Day 8 - What Took You So Long?

"Look, these Yin & Yang yahoos are going to be the death of us if we don't act," Jack banged his fist on the counter.

He and Jerry had met up at the gun range. They were getting concerned that they might be caught. Or worse yet, that the serial killing duo might take them out.

"We have to be careful how we do this. I mean we have to be smarter than the current young bucks at the SBPD if we're going to figure out who it is. Plus we have to be careful not to give ourselves away in the process," Jerry remarked thoughtfully.

Jack grinned a bit, "I think I've got it figured out already. I say we strike tonight."

A short while later, a woman was in her kitchen cooking a nice roast for herself. She pulled it out of the oven and took a deep sniff, savoring the scent. She set it on the counter and sliced some up, putting it on a plate next to a pile of delicious mashed potatoes. She set it on the table and poured herself a nice glass of wine. Settling down at the table she spread a white linen napkin over her lap and then scooted her chair up to the table. Just as she stuck her fork in a piece of the meat, she felt the cold barrel of a gun pressed into the back of her head.

"What took you so long?" Those were her last words before someone put a bullet in her brain.

All around him, Shawn's friends were dropping like flies and with each death he became more and more erratic. He had less to be cautious for with all the people he loved dying. Only his father was left and it wasn't enough. Shawn stormed the gun range owned by Jerry Carp late last night, in attempt to find some evidence connecting him to the murders. But all he found was his own grisly end. Shawn was discovered dead this morning, and with him went the funny. Who will stop these evil criminals?

Night 6 - Parent Teacher Conferences

Abigail hummed to herself as she sat behind her desk, looking over the homework handed in by her students. She was just a kindergarten teacher so it's not like she was grading ten page essays, it was pretty much just seeing if they could identify colors and the like. There was a banging on her classroom door and she looked up in surprise as a small group of very angry looking people burst in. "It's time for a parent teacher conference, you evil baddie you," declared birdwithteeth11. They quickly bludgeoned her to death with her own three hole punch. It was bloody. The janitor was displeased later when he had to clean up the mess, especially given the fact that she wasn't even bad to begin with. Now Shawn had managed to lose two girlfriends in one game. What a shame.

I have locked this thread to prevent further discussion while I write this post to address this issue...

There has been a clear violation of the rules here. I find myself in a position where I have to decide do I mod kill someone for this infraction (which in turn is essentially helping the baddies and unduly influencing the game) or do I allow this player to continue playing I have decided I am going to allow this player to continue playing, with the understanding that info dumping is against the rules and I will not allow this to occur a second time. I believe that outing their role will balance itself out by nature of the game itself.

However, BWT is now in a position where the the only way he can defend himself against an infodump would be to allow him to respond in kind. He has not done so because he is not violating the rules. I am sending him a message now allowing him to talk about this particular situation only, and I want it to be clear that this in no way means anyone can just reveal info on their roles or items as they please.

Additionally, the host posts are written for flavor, i would discourage you from reading into them too much.

I will now unlock the thread again.

I apologize guys, I'm going to have to extend the day for another 24 hours. I'm in Waco until tomorrow morning helping my sister get moved into her new apartment so there is no way I can do the post tonight but tomorrow night I can handle it no problem.

Shawn held his emotions in check and just thanked him. They hugged and parted ways. As Shawn headed to the Blueberry (left to him by Gus), a gun shot rang out. Shawn turned to see Frank crumpled on the ground, a gunshot wound to the head. There was no sign of his shooter.

Night 5 - Not a Good Day for Santa Barbara

Shawn pushed his food around his plate instead of eating it, lost in his own thoughts.

"Shawn, you're wasting a perfectly good steak, don't play with your food."

There was a knock on the door and Henry went to get it. He came back in carrying a box, delivered by courier. "Were you expecting anything?" he asked his son.

Shawn shook his head and watched as Henry opened the box. Packing material filled it to the brim so Henry turned the box to dump the contents out. Styrofoam peanuts spilled across the table and then small objects began to fall out. The last object fell to the table with a heavy thud and Shawn looked at his dad in surprise, "Chief Vick!"

On the table was her nameplate from her desk at the SBPD, and painted on it was a Yin Yang symbol.

In the streets chaos was building. With the loss of Chief Vick, the police were having a hard time controlling the panicking population of Santa Barbara. A crowd drug Sokoth from his home and through the streets. Outside the police department they protested, demanding justice because they "knew" it was Sokoth who was behind all the recent deaths. He tried to convince them they had it wrong, but it didn't make a difference. When the police refused to punish Sokoth for a crime without a trial, the crowd decided to take matters into their own hands and strung him up in front of the police department. Shawn and Henry arrived too late and were left distraught to find the enraged crowd had killed Madeleine. Things were now looking very dire for the good people of Santa Barbara.

Carlton had not been quite on his game since the untimely death of his beloved Marlowe. He had made a series of wild and baseless accusations, leading to the press attacking and ridiculing him mercilessly. His photo was splashed across the front page, declaring him Detective Dipstick.

Shawn patted Carlton on the shoulder, "Cheer up Lassie, when the press is making fun of you the bad guys won't see you coming."

Night 4 - Shanked!

Alarms clanged and prison guards rushed around. Something ugly was going down at the prison.

In the SBPD things were quieter though. Carlton was going over some crime scene photos from the most recent murder, none other than Matt. But the photos were confusing to him. It felt different than the other murders. Shawn came in and plopped down in the chair next to Carlton's desk, "How's it going Lassie?"

Carlton sighed, "It would be going a lot better if you were somewhere else."

"Let me work on this with you, we can solve it together. We both want to bring an end to the murders. We have to do this for Gus and Jules."

Carlton looked at him for a moment and then slid the photos across to him, "Take a look at these and tell me what you see."

Shawn eyed them for a moment and then got an intense look that Carlton recognized as the look that meant he was onto something. Shawn said, "These scenes are totally different, even the weapon is off... they're different killers."

Carlton nodded, "That was what I saw too. We've got double the job in front of us I think."

A lackey from the front desk called back to Carlton, "Detective Lassiter, phone call for you on line two."

He picked up the phone, "Lassiter."

He sat listening and Shawn could tell from his look that something was wrong. He hung up the phone and grabbed his coat, "I've got to go to the prison, it's Marlowe!"

He arrived too late, the inmates had suspected her of being a murderer and shanked her. They had gone through her things and found she was innocent of the accusations, and now poor Carlton had lost his one true love.

Meanwhile at Henry's house the phone rang and he answered, "Hello?"

"Henry? This is Chief Vick, I need your help."

"What can I do for you Karen?"

"Carlton is tied up at the prison. Marlowe was killed. I got a call about another Yin Yang body, can you and Shawn check it out for me?"

"Yeah, you got it."

An hour later Henry and Shawn stood over a mutilated body. Henry looked genuinely shook up; he recognized this victim.

Shawn stared down in disbelief too, it was none other than his dad's old partner, Lou Gamble.

Shawn's demeanor lacked his usual boyish charm and his actions were missing their normal shenanigans. Juliet was worried about him. "He's really taking Gus' death hard," she commented to Henry.

"I know, Gus was his best friend for his whole life, I'm not sure how he is going to make it without him. I mean, who's going to pay his bills?"

Shawn burst into Chief Vick's office, "Chief, I want put on the case, I need to work this case!"

"I'm afraid that is out of the question Mr. Spencer, you are too close to this case to be assigned to it. Go home, grieve your loss and let the police do their job."

Shawn stormed out of the SBPD in frustration, he had no intention of sitting this one out...

Night 2 - Did You Hear About Pluto?

Shawn and Gus strolled into the Santa Barbara Police Station and over to where Juliet was sitting at her desk. She smiled at them as they approached, "Hey guys, what's up?"

"We heard you had a suspect in for questioning and wanted to come watch you work," Shawn responded.

"Why do you always show up uninvited Spencer?" Lassiter said as he brushed past them, heading toward the interrogation room.

Shawn followed him, saying, "Come on Lassie, we're on this case too."

Gus leaned against the wall next to a bench where a pretty girl was sitting. "Hey," Gus tried his cool guy look and went on, "You hear about Pluto? That's messed up."

She gave him an odd look and Juliet interrupted, "Uh Gus? She's a prostitute." The woman lifted her hands to show the cuffs she was wearing. "You coming?" Juliet motioned to the interrogation room and Gus hurried after her, leaving the awkward situation behind.

Juliet, Shawn and Gus watched from behind the glass as Lassiter sat down across the table from Scotty. He looked over the file in front him for a moment, trying to make Scotty sweat.

Scotty broke, "Look man, why am I here?"

Lassiter smiled, it was a disconcerting thing to see, "Well Mr. Scotty. You are here because you've got motive and opportunity to kill MP. What do you have to say for yourself?"

Scotty looked bewildered, "But it wasn't me!"

"Well I've got a pretty angry group of people who seem damn sure it was you."

Chief Vick came in and knocked on the glass and Lassiter looked irritated as he came out of the interrogation room, "Why did you pull me out of there, he was about to break!"

Chief Vick pointed to the television which had live news coverage of Russtifinko's death by mob. He had tried to intercede to save his fiance Scotty from their bloodlust. Scotty saw it too and burst into wailing and mourning, "NooOooOOooo! I thought the new Star Trek movie was the worst thing to happen to me this month but I was wrong! Why my love, Russtifinko?"

Juliet looked apologetic and suggested letting Scotty go for now, everyone agreed it might be the senstive thing to do.

As they left the station, Shawn hung back to talk with Juliet about their date they had planned for later and Gus went on ahead to climb into the Blueberry and turn it on. Only seconds later it burst into a giant fireball. Shawn and Juliet stared in shocked disbelief as people ran around in chaos trying to figure out what had happened. Once the smoldering wreckage of the car could be investigated, they found a clue left behind for them. It was the work of none other than Yin and Yang.

Just to let everyone know, we have two requests for replacements at the moment. From Dom and Blooper. I will be looking to replace them hopefully in the next 24 hours here. Blooper is going to try to play in the mean time but she is quite busy, so no guarantees. Dom is not able to participate so he will be my first priority replacement. Bear with me guys. Thanks!

The arresting function should be clarified. Since Matt is arrested, he cannot vote, post or use his power. He gains BTSC with Marlowe until he is released. He cannot be lynched or killed while in Juliet's custody either. This is why he is off the poll.

It says "most" used items are put in the safe...does that mean some items have a finite use? If so, will we be made aware if an item (identified or not) is no longer in play?

All item descriptions have their particular use instructions included in their description with the exception of one item which has no instructions whatsoever. Unless told otherwise an item is used at night and then once the person holding it has used it once, it will be returned to the safe. If the safe combination is cracked, the items will come out of the safe and return into play in Gus' possession. If Gus holds more than three items he will have to give away any excess items since no one can hold more than three items at a time. The items that are not used in this way will specify how and when they are used within their description given to the player who receives them.

Buzz confiscates any items held in the possession of a player who is arrested. They are his, to either use or gift as he sees fit. He may only hold three items though, so if he confiscates items and it pushes him over three he must immediately gift them to someone else.

Night 1 - Respect the Process

"Shawn, will you quit wasting time? I'm supposed to be at work today, but you drug me out here to investigate with you instead. Don't make me regret it."

"Gus, don't be Hillary after the DNC emails were leaked. You know I have to have my churros before I do any serious investigative work! Respect the process man!"

Gus shook his head, "Somebody has to make some money around here, how else do we pay the electric bill..."

Shawn looked puzzled for a minute, "We pay an electric bill?"

Gus looked worried now, "Shawn, I gave you the check to put in the mail, don't tell me you didn't send it!"

"Oops."

"Come on, son!" Gus exclaimed in aggravation, "now we have to go down to the electric company instead of trying to find MP's killer. Thanks a lot Shawn!"

Day 1 - Gloomy Gus

Shawn groaned. He was curled up in the fetal position on the couch in the Psych office. "Gus, I don't think that was a good idea. Next time I suggest Mash and Grab, slap me."

"You know that's right," Gus grunted and took a swig of Pepto Bismol.

The phone rang and Gus reached over slowly and picked it up, "Psych, Burton Guster speaking."

"Gus?" Juliet responded, "You don't sound so good, is everything ok?"

Gus choked back a gag and only said, "Mmhmm,"

"Well, we've got a body. Lassiter didn't want me to tell you, but I think you might be able to help. I'll text you the address. Just don't tell Lassiter I called you!"

Lassiter stood over the body in thoughtful silence for a moment then said, "I'm calling it, this was an accidental death."

"How do you know that?" asked Buzz.

"Well McNab, this guy, " Carlton checks his notebook, "Movingpictures07, is not the most graceful person according to his close friends. Judging from the position of the body, he probably tripped over that laptop cord and smashed his head on the corner of the desk. Open and shut." He flipped his notebook closed decisively.

"Not so fast there Lassie!" Shawn's voice called out from the doorway.

Carlton rolled his eyes, "Alright, who invited the side show? Spencer, your parlor tricks are not needed here, I've already closed the case. It was clearly an accidental death."

"Wrong again Lassie." Shawn's right hand started shaking, small tremors at first. This increased until his whole arm was flailing and then grabbing it with his left hand he moved as though pulled by an unseen force toward the back door. Then putting a finger to his temple he asked, "If it was an accidental death, why does the back door lock appear to have been jimmied?"

Juliet stepped close and inspected the lock before saying, "He's right."

"No! NO! It could be from some other time, there is no reason to suspect he was murdered," Carlton's voice rose in frustration.

"I'm sensing something else, the body, something is wrong with the body."

They walked back over and looked at the body and Carlton sighed, "Damn it. The position of the body is wrong, if he hit his head he would be facing the other direction. It's murder."

Shawn smiled, "Chin up Lassie, now we get to work together again."

Carlton glared at Shawn and stormed out without another word.

Gus looked at Shawn, "I think he's going to shoot you someday."

"Gus, don't be a gloomy you, Lassiter loves working with me!"
