I was the one who hit the reset button, right? :D
Were there two versions of this game? On The Piano, I definitely remember holding onto the red button until late in the HHGTTG game that I played. Upon resetting the game, I became the Royally Screwed Guy. :sigh:
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Dom held it for a while without pushing the button and then passed it off to Gman, who hit the button late in the game and randomized everyone's roles again and made himself Royalky Screwed Guy. It was something else.

I feel like I learned a lot about a bunch of players in this game, but as the people behind the sock. Like, you play insanity games with 50 people on other sites and you get to know them as players and their special quirks and stylings, but it's only a facade. I feel like the games here are personable to a fault- yes we lie and have to create an image to advance our particular win goal, but I feel like a human being's personality and character shine through on this site more than any other.

I'm glad to get to know everyone and find it an honor that for the majority of people, this game is an extension of ourselves and at the end of the day we're a community that supports each other.
This made me happier than any mafia win or successful hosting experience I could ever have! :hugs:

Re: [END] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

Also Epi, you list the four civ ninjas as a handicap for the baddies, but it made it much, much harder for the civ ninjas to land a kill. The fact you only saw one Hitman land a kill the whole game should speak to the fact it was balanced, or even possibly imbalanced in the favor of the cops. I don't mean to diminish your win, you guys deserved it. However, the reason it felt so imbalanced to you is because the civs played it as if it were a standard setup rather than strategically balancing going after people they suspect were bad and people who they believed were on the other team. You guys won despite that so it makes your win that much more significant.

Re: [END] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

I apologize that the prison breakout mechanic felt cheap, but you weren't aware of the fact that they were competing for a rez. They basically had to act in such a way to convince you all of their value to you, so it would never have been in their best interest to just do what they wanted and rule the thread for a day. One of the prisoners suggested it a couple times but everyone else dismissed it out of hand because they knew it would undermine what they were trying to do. Anyway, the whole independent prisoners mechanic got added like two weeks before game start. Sorry if any of you hated it, but I was really enjoying seeing it play out. There are things I would adjust should I ever use this kind of mechanic again though. But overall I was happy with it.

Re: [END] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

It was those two challenges that made us realize we needed to recognize some outstanding performances in the prison yard. So the Thug banners were born! The prisoners who carried those challenges were tenacious. There was one point where they went 28 minutes without posting and I thought they were going to miss it, but they didn't. I think the closest they came in the ten minute one was 8 minutes. I was the one who had the honor of patrolling to ensure they met the criteria. That's why I was also cheering them on, lol.

Good question! You all failed; it was the Warden's death that got you in here. We realized we made it ridiculously difficult though, so it worked out.

Here were the results:

Cell 1 - S~V~S and Typhoony - 21
Cell 2 - G-Man and Metalmarsh - 7
Cell 3 - bea and DharmaHelper - 3
Cell 4 - juliets and timmer - 19
Cell 5 - a2thezebra and Scotty - 5
Cell 7 - Black Rock and Quin - 15
Cell 9 - ika and Silverwolf - 21
Cell 10 - indiglo and thellama - 0

Cell 6 was vacant and Cell 8 didn't apply because Sorsha's shanking that previous day meant Boomslang was by himself.
NIce, we rocked this one, LOL.

Re: [END] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

for those of you questioning the Don's choices as far as challenges for his Capo and Crew, they did not know what the challenges were. They were choosing the reward and then picking a random number to assign their challenge with no knowledge of the actual mission itself. If they had known it would have outed who the capo and crew were. To both Dons. It would have hugely imbalanced the game for basically two groups of five civs to all know who each other are, it also would have made it impossible for a team to off their own Don by accident, which was an intended mechanic. Anyone who plays my games should know, there will always be a kind of role or mechanic that may require self sacrifice or strategic risk/loss.i am a huge fan of making players make tough decisions. And also of unique role interactions. The cops were pretty pessimistic at the idea of two civs each with their own BTSC partner that they could not arrest, but it was intentional. In order for one of the civ teams to win they had to take out the other Don. The game was built to pit civ against civ. You guys just never got there. Who knows, it might have changed the whole outcome if you hadn't put it off.

Re: [END] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

I actually almost mixed up Quin and Sig. Since Sig was searching for the rookie cop and Quin was searching for his lover (Nero) I got them mixed up and we sent Sig and Nero a message saying they were lovers and found each other. Luckily, I realized my mistake before either of them opened it and we deleted the message. Oh, and Quin, I felt so bad for you. Your lover was alive all that time and you just couldn't find each other!

Lol, Epi's reaction, was "Fuck, Jay is a prisoner!"

That CFD was amazing but it kinda doomed me personally in this game. It caused me to shake up so many of my reads from earlier in the game, and it turned out all of my new ideas were wrong and my old ones were much more on the right track.

Soneji had me fooled the whole time though. If it weren't for those last day shenanigans I was never going to vote for him. Very well played Soneji and the rest of you cops.

This is so very true for pretty much everyone but Silverwolf. Silverwolf has incredible instincts. However, I have never seen so many civs be so absolutely wrong and yet 100% certain that they were right as I did in this game. People who usually have outstanding instincts as well. It was almost painful to watch at times.

Also, I have to share my own Slooneji story. Sloonei, you were originally supposed to be the Chief and soneji was supposed to be my Don, but because I flubbed and got Sloonei and soneji mixed up, I had to flip flop your roles because one of the role card messages was read as soon as I sent it. I felt like an idiot.

Re: [END] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

There were prisoners that started the game in the prison. These were independents. They had their own win condition to fulfill. They had to get rezzed in order to win. One thing we did not anticipate is that until Silverwolf, ika, Indi and llama, the arrested civilians seemed completely uninterested in even trying to get back into the main thread.

To explain our strict adherence to the no outing the fact you started in the main game, it could have made it nearly impossible for the indies to fulfill their win con. All it would take is someone outing the self and then all the civs file in and vote for the obvious formerly civ player. They had to be given an equal chance, which is why we set it up like that. The goal was for the prisoners to be released and prove their worth to the civilians during that day phase, without reveals they may have previously been in the game. I know that the two who were mod killed had not intended anything by the infraction, but we had to mod kill to preserve the balance of the mechanic. I'm very sorry to have upset you both with this.

Re: [NIGHT 7] Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

Alex and I are going to Austin for a much needed three day trip. We can either end the night in the early evening in Austin tomorrow (which requires us setting aside time) or we can put up a post whenever we get back to our hotel on Saturday night, which will probably be the wee small hours of the morning. If we do the second option we will still end the following day around five PM, so the day will be a bit shorter than normal as a result. Let us know what you prefer. If you have no preference vote for whatever is easier for us. But if you have a preference, please let us know what it is. It won't inconvenience us to consider everyone's input.

HOST ANNOUNCEMENT

I see there have been questions in game regarding whether or not you can discuss the votes you borrowed or the terms of repayment. Here is the answer: going forward you cannot discuss the votes you borrowed, how you used them or what the terms of repayment on the loan were until those terms been completely fulfilled. So guys, I get that mafia is a game we get emotionally invested in and I get that sometimes things happen that bug you to the point it carries into other games. However, if you have a personal issue with what someone did in another game, then act like the grown ups that you all are and deal with it. Either deal with it person to person by PM, or get over it. But if I see all this pissy whining about personal grudges from previous games, I'll shut you up myself. We will have fun this game, or else!

Re: Turf Wars: Battle of the Hosts

Prologue

A burly man steps through the doorway of a small bar. His eyes quickly survey the room. It's dark and smokey, but he sees the party he's looking for and steps aside to allow the man behind him to enter. MP doesn't look around for trouble, that's why he pays the big goon to protect him. He just walks with confidence toward the table in the back. Daisy and her two thugs are already there. She sits calmly in the corner, waiting for him.

"You're late," she comments as he pulls out a chair and sits down.

"I'm just making an entrance."

Daisy looks at his guard who is still standing behind MP, "doesn't he sit?"

"You left me the seat with my back exposed, he's just being cautious. After everything that's gone down, we won't take any chances."

"You think I'd hurt you? After we called this meeting? That would be a breach of the code."

He just gave a small shrug in response to her offended tone. Leaning in she went on, "You know we've got a problem. The Syndicate isn't big enough for two crime families. You've moved in on two of my drug corners in Tin Pan Alley and I heard a rumor you had a pimp working Apollo Square."

"Hey! You've been running some rackets around the Casino, so you're not blameless either. You've stepped into my territory too."

"Look, it's pointless to argue who is more to blame. We need to settle this once and for all."

That kind of talk made him nervous about what she had planned, but he was intrigued so he asked, "What did you have in mind?"

"A battle. One turf war to settle them all."

"I'm listening," he still thought she had some sort of trick up her sleeve.

"We have a common enemy."

"JaggedJimmyJay?"

"No! The police! No matter how many losses we take from each other, they keep snagging our men. We've got to get them to fall into line, show them who really runs this town. I say we work together to take them out."

"We'll probably lose more guys to them if we take them on."

"Exactly, and the family that comes out with the least losses takes over all of The Syndicate. The losing family will be absorbed into the other."

He nodded thoughtfully, "That could work. You sure you won't mind being an underboss for me?"

She laughed derisively, "As if that would ever happen, your family better be ready to become Daisy Crime Syndicate goons, because that is how this is going to shake out."

The phone rings and the bartender picks it up and after a brief conversation he approaches their table. He leans over and whispers something to Blooper, Daisy's guard on her left.

Blooper stands up, "We've got to move, the cops found out about this meeting, they're on their way now. There's a connecting door to the next storefront, we'll go out that way."

They all hurry towards the back and just as they reach the door they hear a commotion as the police bust through the front and back doors simultaneously. Blooper waves them through and turns to head back into the bar. Daisy calls after her, "What are you doing?"

"You all go ahead, I'll buy you some time to get out."

Daisy nodded and they all rushed into the next storefront and out that way, where their cars were waiting. They could hear a jumble of yelling and gunshots as they jumped into their cars and sped off. Blooper had sacrificed herself for the head of her family. Daisy sighed deeply; she knew it wouldn't be the last sacrifice her family would have to experience. She could only work make sure Daisy Crime Syndicate came out on top.

Speeding the opposite way across town MP was smiling to himself, he was already ahead of her since she clearly just lost someone else. Things were shaping up already and soon he and the Sockface Famiglia would be running this whole town.
