Is 48 hr day phases significantly slower or is there still a good amount of discussion?

I've never played anything but 24hr combined day-night phases so I'm down for whatever is the overall consensus.

Question, since this seems very different from where I normally play: Will we get to know the full rules before the game starts or is this all players have to go off of?
