Re: Bea and BD(iggz)H Buy a house!

Got ya! :] I figure by the time we pay for the house, it'll be time to sell it to move to a retirement home. Lol

yes. It's tight but doable. And no more rent. I don't have that sweet baby to watch grow up and maybe help when I'm old. I have parents to take care of (being the one of my siblings who hasn't had kids) and then myself to take care of. Equity is important at this point in my life.

One of my co-workers was all "welcome to debt land' and I was just all "welcome to being in debut for *my* thing as apposed to giving so much in rent.

Owenership is tough for sure, but it means never paying rent again. Never throwing away your money at rent again.

WE bought a home that makes us happy and we hope like shit that once we pay it off, our investment will give us some more cash to take care of us in old people land.

We are the same except that we have to take care of this house then dump it, before we move off into retirement community.

Re: Bea and BD(iggz)H Buy a house!

Today BDH got up before I did and spent the afternoon doing stuff to the house. He sealed the grouting in the laundry room and where the frige will go. He hung our pendant lights, and the thing I'm fairly sure he's *most* proud of, he installed the usb wall outlets around the house. They are super cool. It's a regular wall plug, but has 2 usb ports on each side of them. I think we have 1 if not 2 in every room now.

Tomorrow he says he's thinking he will seal the gouting in the bathrooms and start working on ceiling fans or blinds. The frige, washer and dryer arrive tomorrow so he has some time to wait around on them to come deliver and install.

It is adorable watching him be all handy around our house. His grandpa was an election and he used to go out on jobs with him when he was younger, so he definitely knows what he's doing. I'm so very lucky to have such a great man in my life. Keeps the finances straightened, fixes stuff up in the house. I swear there is nothing he can't do!! :D

Golden wrote:So excited for you bea! All these things you can see to do with it! That's very exciting.
Here is the harsh lesson I am learning about a completely blank slate. Because that's what I have. Is that I can paint and design it however I want. And there are SO many choices. Through all this though, I've learned I have a design style. Quiz after quiz I took would show touches of this and that, but then I had to accept the inevitable and know that there was one thing that kept coming up again and again and again.

It was Mid-century modern. So basically - anything from 1940-1970 American - think Mad Men and/or Art Deco decor and that's about me to a freeking T.

It's so bad that BDH now LAUGHS at me while we window shop home stuffs. Even at the antique shop- I'd be all "ohhh! this table! Ohhh!! these cabinets!! He'd flip the tag over and roll his eyes.

linki - ooohhh! so the second building is all you too! Nice for renting or an inlaw suite when that time comes. Good call! (or you know, Junior while he's in college and stuffs - close to home, but *awayish*)

I have always wondered, though, why sometimes bathrooms have two sinks side by side. Why?
For two people - his and hers in the master bath for example.
I see. It seems over-convenient to me but it definitely nice on an aesthetic level.
If two people are getting ready for work in the morning, or two kids are getting ready for school it's very convenient.
True. I wouldn't have a clue anyway. It really does look great though.
Yea - pretty much all of what Juliets said. But also - you know - so I can keep my things at my sink and he can keep his shavers and clippers etc at his sink. In the pict I posted, it was the master bath. But both bathrooms have the double sink. And the same thing goes in the other one. As she said - two kids - two sinks - teefies get brushed twice as fast.

The weird but kinda cool thing to me is that in the pict I posted, one of those closed doors leads to the toilet. OMG - how cool is that??? like the toilet in the master has it's own little closet room. So say one of us is showering and one of us has to do you know....stufff... they can just close the door and the smell or whatever won't bother said showering person!

I get that this particular function is kinda redundant because by and large - we are the only 2 people in the house so if one of us is showering, we have a whole other bathroom to poop in. But - part of the reason we chose *this* home and not other homes is we had one eye on when we pay the mortgage and are in our golden years and looking to sell so we can become the coolest old kids in the hippest retirement community. And a 3 bedroom home is easier to resell than a 2 bedroom home. LIkewise, the toilet closet is a handy thing for mom and dad in the master if their kids are all in the other bathroom.

S~V~S wrote:Will it come with a fridge, or do you have to buy that separately?

It's beautiful, and it's brand new, right?

How far from work, etc?
It came with the stove, dishwasher and microwave. We had to buy the frige, washer and dryer. OMG. My new washer and dryer are smarter than I am. My new dryer can tell when cloths are dry and auto shut off!!!!! Tech is cray cray these days! We really weren't shopping for something quite that smancy - we just wanted energy efficient cuz bills yo! But the ones we got, were on hellasale at 50 percent off the 800 dollar price tag. The deal was cheaper than the ones we were looking at so - there it went. Same with the frige. It's a french door fridge with water/ice machine. No bottom drawer freezer - but full size. And at less than the more economic one we were looking at. We went to Spencer's Appliance per the grandparent's suggestion. We were *amazed* by their service!

It is brand new - never lived in. Because it's brand new - there is a warenty on particular things in the house like dry wall and tile for the first year. So at 11 months they will come back - look and see what's cracked dry wall wise - tile wise etc due to the nature of the house settling during the first year and repair it. We can extend that warenty up to 10 years if we wish.

The move will add I wanna say like 15 minutes to bdh's drive time due to how much of his commute is and will be highway drive and he typically isn't commuting during peak hours. I'm not sure about mine. It's going to increase significantly as I was right around the corner from my store in the apt (like 15-20 min depending on traffic) And I'm moving further west and north from my store with no real good highway access. I *do* however have one street that cuts a diagnal across the city so that street that I keep forgetting about because I've learned to avoid it at all costs may now become my best friend. I still have to time the commute for myself but I should know sometime after Monday as I plan on loading the car full of boxes at night, going to work, then taking them to the house when I'm done working. I figure that will put me on the road during peek traffic hours - so I can get a realistic time stamp.

The SUPER best part about this though, is that even if it means a little more drive time to get to work on our end, it puts us so much closer to his family. His grandparent's retirement home is *literally* the next complex over and his mom's care center is like 2 blocks away.

This is the pantry area to the right of the kitchen. Behind it is the guest bath and two bedrooms. Master suite to the right of the kitchen. OMG the walk in closet is about as big as the bedrooms! :omg:

Image

This is the view from the catum sanctorum. AKA Bea's Library/Listening Room/Cat extravaganza. The front entrance way is to the left of it as is our laundry room. View out to the kitchen/dining/living area. Look! I have a patio that opens into a backyardimeanpileofdirt. Yard is a while a way yet...(but that yard WILL have a catio! Cuz CATIO!!!!!)

Image

This is the pantry. It's a nice size even if it isn't very deep. Look at that touch up paint they are so nicely leaving for us!!! (There is also left over tile and grout in our closet for when they do the 11 month repairs.)

Image

My Kitchen. :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Obviously we are gonna paint those white cabinets pretty soon. White cabinets have no business anywhere near a place where I will regularly make pasta sauce. I'm torn between a lightish shade of grey or an espresso color.

Image

This is the view from the living area into my multipurpose kitty fest/Bea's non food related loves room. I see shelves and comfy reading chairs and cat trees everywhere! And a record player. I want a record player. I miss owning albums.

It looks smallish from the outside. But it has the most amazing use of space I've ever seen. No corner is un thought about or used. Even the "hallway" off the kitchen to the guest bath and bedrooms keep the house connected. On paper it sounds like a lot. 3 bed, 2 bath. But the way it's laid out feels just cozy enough for the two of us and the occasional guests.

And a puppy.

Once we have a back yard and not a pile of dirt, we get a puppy! :

OK - so it looks like in the preview - I finally got the picts to post. Yay using their tags! But the size is all off. The full view can be accessed by opening the pict in a new tab.

I swear by the time I get around to posting picts with stuff *in* the house, I will have this down!
