Re: Bea's Foodie Thread.

SVS - it's less expensive too - especially if you tend to over indulge in the hummus. Diggz makes sundried tomato hummus and pesto hummus that I could quite literally eat by the pounds. :)

I'm making pasta with sauteed chicken, red, orange, yellow and green peppers, portabella mushrooms, tomatoes and artichoke hearts tossed in a butter white wine sauce tonight.

First night I've gotten to cook "for real." in a month and a half.

Re: Bea's Foodie Thread.

LA - thank you so much! I know you've posted it before. I hope I can remember to snag it this time. It always sounds so good when I read it. Maybe someday in the next6 months I might have a day to actually make it!

LEGGGGGGYYYYYYY!!!!!! *squee* :hugs:  :hugs:

So glad you found the foodie thread. I made in honor of BR's Kitchen thread on Rev because BR wasn't with us yet. Can't wait to see what you have!

I've not cooked anything really since I took over my store. :( I miss cooking.

That said, BDH has stepped up and made some AWESOME things the past couple weeks. He did Easter dinner this year and he even laid claim to one of the turkey's so he can learn to do it too! Once he can make lassagna, I fear he might divorce me as my usefulness in our marriage will have evaporated more than milk.:sigh:

also - omg - I didn't even tell you guys - I was FORCED to make lasagna last night. I'm kinda sad I didn't get the choice to make my love. I really would have - if I was given the choice, but the being forced to do it sits just a half an inch on this side of wrong. Ya know?

Re: Bea's Foodie Thread.

Sweet! I had high hopes for it and the Chana Masala. Back when I lived in Cleveburg, my roommate/landlord was first generation Indian. He made me what he called "Indian chickpeas" once. It was the first time I'd ever had Indian food and OMG sooo good. I've never seen it out in any restaurant I've ever been to. I hope that one is good and I hope when I try to make it it's the same thing.

Re: Bea's Foodie Thread.

Goosey - Pierogis are hands down my most favorite food ever. They are the reason I say "God love the Polish people."

I mean - they took Ravioli - one of my favorite foods - and stuffed them with MASHED POTATOES - (and some times cheese and other things I love) - and said "Let's fry theses bad boys and serve them with sauteed onions and sour cream.

It's like I died and gone to heaven. Pasta and potatoes all in one.

I've not made desserts in like forever. (Since the Thanskgiving when I did the two layered pumkin cheesecake in fact) - but I've had my eye on this one for a while now. Leggy posted it over on Rev in her food thread:

Image

My hubby LOVES anything frozen banana flavored. Which is weird because he hates banana's in their natural state. But I first learned of his frozen banana love our first Christmas together when he took me to Disneyland. We had more than one frozen banana dipped in chocolate. He has since then, bought other frozen banana's and they are officially "Not the same."

The ONLY change I would make to this recipe is that I really REALLY want to use NutellA instead of PB. (and yes - I accidently hit the cap on the A, but decided it was fitting :noble:)

And no. I do not think it would make things too chocolatey. :noble:

I can understand that. This is only the second time I've made it and only the 3rd time I've had it.

I love cream and cheese so I tend to think more of them makes everything better, but yea. I can get where the bechamel could be too heavy handed.

That said, the first time I made this - I got all done and was like "this is sooooooo yummy, but I never thought I'd find a dish more time consuming to make than lasagna. I can't believe I would have eaten 2 hours ago if I'd just made lasagna." *teehee*.

I omited the olives from the recepie too as I tend to be the only Italian person on this planet that doesn't like olives. That said, I don't mind Kalamata's if they are used lightly and very finely chopped into the dish, so maybe next time I'll try it with some olives.

I don't think I've had Patsitsio before. But I tend to like Greek food a lot. :)

Speaking of Greek food......tonight I'm making Moussaka. http://www.food.com/recipe/moussaka-59130 I'm just going to use potatoes this time as I don't feel like messing around with the eggplant. (While I love it, it just didn't work out well for me last time) It's going to take a hecka long time to make though. It took me twice as long as the directions said it would the first time I tried it. But I have more of the ingredients floating around the house to use up than I do for any other hamburger recipe.

I keep stalling it, but it's looking like it's time for me to throw a load of dishes in the wash and get dressed and go shopping for those last two ingredients.

Eggplant parm is a dish from the Gods. I always wanted gram to teach me to make it the old skool way - all I could ever get out of her was how you have to salt the eggplant to draw out all the liquid. I've never really gotten around to digging up a good recipe for it and giving it a go.

Mongoose - almost every Thai place I've has a fried tofu appetizer served with spicy peanut sauce with varrying degrees of awesomeness. Thai food was one thing we could "go out to eat" and get that had lots of options for him as well. Though to be honest, I grew to like tofu enough that I would often get it in my curry as well. :)

Bacon is cheating but my sweetie loves it soooo very much and I do love seeing my sweeite happy with my foods :D

I've not had bacon wrapped dates but they sound delish.
One of my fav. appatizers from my old job was asparagus spears wrapped with prosciutto and marscarpone cheese then sauteed in a skillet. OH. MY. GOD. I could eat like a thousand of them.

I'm totally cool with vegitarian cooking. Before I met my sweetie I dated a vegetarian for a really long time. We'd make all kinds of stir fries and pasta dishes sans meat. I love tofu, but ironically can't stand any of the "fake" meat products (Like no veggie hamburgers or italian sausages or hot dogs - it all tasted yuck to me.) except the soyusso sausage I liked to use it when I made spagetti or lasagna for him because it gave me a "meat" taste but he could eat it too. I learned so much about the lifestyle from him. I never knew things like jello and marsh mellows were no go. It never occured to me. It became that marsh mellows became a guilty pleasure of mine.

I can't do vegan though. I need me some dairy like you wouldn't believe.

@ LA - that explains why it sounded vaugely familiar. I prolly said something right after along the lines of "that sounds amazing I can't wait to try it!" Fresh cilantro isn't too expensive out here, but the problem I find is that it only comes in the bundles and I tend to have a hard time finding lots of recipies to use it in before it goes all bad since such a little bit does so much work.... Though, this is the time of year when roma tomatoes start going for 99 cents a lb if you buy them on the right day so maybe it's time to bust out a huge batch of fresh pico and make some tillapia. Yay for payday friday!!! :D

lemoncello tiramisu sounds sooooooooooo good. Also - I love the odd names mongooose. I' m big on the "sammies" myself. But "super water" and "chicky-chicy-parm-parm" are my newest favorite words ever!!!

Bea's Foodie Thread.

I keep finding myself asking about food stuffs in the random thread. As many food conversations as we've had there, feels like it's time to start a thread for recipies and general foodie geeking out here. If there's enough interest in this thread, I'll ask the powers that be for a subforum for specific food related topics. At the moment, I think one thread will prolly serve us well.
