Looking back, minor townread on Sig right now for that question to the host. Final five mechanics, from what I understand of them, is something that makes a town player unknowingly scum. I do not feel like Sig would ask this if it did not apply to Sig, so I currently believe that Sig is either one of the final five, or a town player.

My mafia experience is pretty good, I've been playing off and on at Bulbagarden for about 3-4 years. The site has a mix of experienced and inexperienced players, so I've played with both types of people a lot.

There definitely is the option of faking a townslip, hence the minor townread on it. I just thought it should be noted since nobody had called attention to it yet.

Wait, I revisited this post and I'm confused a bit by it, especially the underlined part. Why couldn't Sig be a Cylon (original) asking about the Final Five?
It's not that he couldn't be, it's that I doubt he would ask if it didn't apply to him. Once we get more contribution, I could form a better read, but for now it's a slight town because I see this as a townslip. Then again, he could be scum faking a townslip, hence it being a slight D1 town read rather than a full blown one.

And in regards to my omission of So Say We All, to be honest it stemmed from the culture difference of this community to mine. I'm not used to rules such as this, or in game events, and unfortunately when I saw the event I got excited and forgot about the so say we all. Won't happen again

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One

Slowly reading through, going to quote responses and things I find interesting.
Ricochet wrote:@Beats

I don't see how it can veer towards a townslip. If the design is faithful to the show, the certain Cylons have no memory of who the Final Five Cylons are. So the question could come from:

-- town Sig having no clue if he's Final Five (not received in his role at the start of the game)
-- town Sig having no clue how the Final Five will be revealed, regardless of him turning up as such or not, or
-- Cylon Sig trying to find out how the Final Five will be revealed (or if they have already).

Does this make sense?

Also, I think this is the first time such a obligatory "salute" rule has been introduced in games here. You not following the rule still must be accounted for, because rules are rules.

linki: ninja'd by indi
I hadn't thought of the third option there, but that makes sense.

And yeah, we should definitely keep track of who didn't so we know who faces punishment for it, but in my opinion there is nothing alignment indicative about who followed them or not. In fact I would argue that scum is more likely to remember it out of fear for being suspected for it, but chances are everybody just forgot.

What your play meta at town and scum?
Very similar meta to be honest. My scum philosophy is to come up with a fakeclaim early and pretend I'm town. I'm never above bussing if the person is being suspicious. Honestly, I haven't heard any ways to distinguish it, but if you would like I can provide two game threads from my homesite, one scum and one town for you guys to look for things in.

However, I am used to game with outside communication and roleclaiming/info dumping allowed. That being said the main difference with my scum meta is ill often fakeclaim a more obscure informational role and try to use it to clear myself and steer the town. As town, I would pull fakeclaim gambits privately to try to bait kills on me to clear or make another user likely scum when I've had less useful roles.

Since OC and role claiming isn't really relevant here, I'm curious as to how I'll end up doing because so much of my usual game involves gambits between the two.

Most, but not all, of the private communication is linked in the Quicktopics at the end here, so you can actually see a lot of that here.

Town:
http://forums.bulbagarden.net/index.php ... ry.214349/

This one none of my private communication was publicized, but basically I pseudo cleared the doctor and cop and united them with the tracker, whose softclaims I caught. I knew one guys meta well enough to give him a chance to kill me and frame somebody else, knowing that if he were scum he would take that opportunity, and I told somebody else about the plan so if I died it would come down on the original person. Turned out the two people were the cop and doctor respectively and it brought us all together and united us.

Appeal to meta in a game I observed (whether by playing or hosting) is inconsequential, because I don't believe in meta being rigid and I'm not a meta collector. It further isn't significant, because it's not meta regarding what you do when good or when bad - which is the kind of meta I do indeed look back upon, sometimes - it's meta of how you scumhunt or do reads, at best. Which is, again, fine, if that's how you want to do, except me wanting to hear what scumread I'm supposed to defend myself will always trump everything else. Always has, always will.
Self-defense trumping everything is a scummy mindset imo. Scum win through self-preservation. As town, defending oneself is secondary and only really matters when a serious lynch is about to occur, since you would know it to be a mislynch if you were town. However, Ika threw out a light scumread, and you are already focussed on self-defense.

Minor scumread on Rico for this.

Disclaimer: I do not know meta for any of you. All of my reasoning will not include meta since I've got no clue. Also, I just noticed you have a naked mole rat emoji, that's so cool :kadaj:

Also, JJJ I have no preference on whether or not you express your town reads on me if you've got them. All up to you.

Can you imagine? LC brings that idea up. Dee follows through. Mafia hopes that Dee goes along with this, targets one of their own Night 1, and BOOM, skates the rest of the game.
This read doesn't make sense to me. Why would the scum ever target one of their own based upon this knowledge? If Dee did not use her power, a scum would die. If Dee did, there would be no kill. Now consider this on a real human target. Should Dee not use her power, a civ dies, and if she does there would be no kill. Same outcome for less risk. I do not see anything to logically validate this read.

Matt is renown for his outside-the-box theorizing; he does it regardless of alignment. That's not to say a valid read can't be derived from his behavior though -- you simply have to assess each theory he provides case-by-case and decide whether it's a sincere thought he's conveying.
Alright, thanks. My main thoughts about it is that I think he is 100% right about Felix, which has me a bit worried that he is Felix and knows the extent of his role. Felix's role is hidden on the OP and that being mentioned without mentioning the hidden role in the OP made me think of the possibility. The fact that he usually theorizes makes me find this a bit less likely, but still possible. Retaining the null read + slight town lean on him rn.

Ok, so after catching up, I'll do a basic 3/3 list as well for information's sake.

Good:

JJJ
ika
G-Man

Toastery:

Rico
Vompatti
LoRab

FoS: Ricochet

Richochet has been arguably the most vocal player this game, but looking back, Ricochet has provided nothing with his/her many posts. The only thing Rico did was attempt to discredit basically every other post. This is a very proscum approach because its sole purpose is to reduce town information. Rico has not provided a single town/toaster read iirc. In all of those posts, there is no reason to have no reads at all imo. I don't know meta, so I can't judge based on that, but nothing about this behavior strikes me as protown.

We're only about halfway (?) through the day though, so I'll hold my vote for now until later. Currently, my vote would rest with my FoS unless there is a convincing argument for somebody else later in the day.

Why is Lorab and Vompatti on your scum list?
Why is Gman on your civ list?
Though you do bring up some good points on Rico.
Vompatti - Inactive but hastily locked a vote on Ika for grammar. Has yet to actually contribute anything.

Lorab - I actually had to go back and check this one cause I forgot and I don't take notes, but it was due to his posting with a lack of real contribution. Most of the posts I saw from him were tunneling on the Ika/Silver stuff without actually posting anything game-relevant. In hindsight this was a bit weaker of a read.

G-Man- I liked his read post and liked how he provided high information in a low post count. However, after catching up, SVS brought up some good points about the lack of reads in it that makes me question it a bit more.

Current one:

Good:
JJJ
Ika
SVS - I don't know meta, but all of his posts have a genuine effort to help the town imo and he brings up a lot of good points.

Toaster:
Rico - Still seen no real reads or anything, just self-defense. This guy isn't even pinging my scumdar anymore, it's going loco everytime he posts.
G-Man - SVS's points on his post are incredibly valid imo. Summarizing is an easy way to feign information and I didn't notice that before.
Obscure/Vompetti - I really don't like how they both locked a vote for seemingly no reason.

I'm not sure what to make of Epig right now, my gut is scumleaning Epig for the defensive tunneling, but the read is too slight for me to feel good acting upon today without hearing more.

I've got some stuff to do before I update the game I'm hosting later today, so I won't be able to wait out Epig's answers with you guys, I trust that if they do not come you guys will push that vote instead.

In regards to Epig's flip, I would believe that Athena is town based on the wikipedia info provided. I highly doubt our mafia to consist of 12 players, and if it did, why would one of them be able to resurrect themselves. Makes no sense imho.

The basic thing with this event is that we need no make sure we have someone at every 6 hours so we don't lose time. Ika striking early is a good thing imo, because theres no way to logically deduce a grid like this, at least for the first decision.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One

I'm down for planning, but do we have an idea how this works? Will a resurrection ship take up more than one sector, or are they single sector ships?

Personally, with our lack of information I would feel best checkerboarding it.

A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6
B1 B2 B3 B4 B5 B6
C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6
D1 D2 D3 D4 D5 D6
E1 E2 E3 E4 E5 E6
F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6

Bolded ones should be first priority imo. If they are more than one space in length, we should hit every one of them that way. Once we get a hit, we should hit every spot adjacent to it in order to test if they have length or are single sectored.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One

This whole are all cylons bad vs are only some cylons bad thing is interesting. Personally, I believe that only some cylons are against us and others may very well be on our side because 12 scum seems to be too many, especially with one reviving herself right now.

In order to get a more complete town consensus, I would like to hear every person's thoughts on what we are up against tonight. If everybody provides an opinion, we may be able to figure it out as a group, and we will also have things to look back on about this and maybe reveal more depending on how people flip when they die.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One

Polo, what is your opinion right now? All cylons are scum, or some cylons are on our side?

MetalMarsh89, gun to your head do you believe a cylon could be town aligned?

I like that idea Indiglo

@Epi - Are you town-aligned?

Do you know if any other cylons are town-aligned?

I'm fine with Epig covering a shift. We all will know if Epig deviates from the plan so I don't see any reason not to.

drumbeats, theres 8 to start with, plus final 5 i think that could be a possible slip?
Reread Epig's death/revive post. There's an image that says there are 12 cylon models.

Also Nutella, do you belive that all vylons are scum, or do you think some cylons could be town?

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day One

Currently catching up. In regards to the disagreement about the checkerboard method I said, it is objectively the best way to do it if we do not know if they can be longer than one sector. I fully support randomizing it or moving in diagonals rather than the sweeping way we're doing it right now.

This is a Battlestar Galactica game on another site where cylons were the bad guys and humans were good.
If you look at the roles though, in this one Boomer, who is one of the cylons in this game, is town. This further proves imo that not all cylons are scum. Additionally, if anyone hasn't said their opinion on this topic please do so now.
