Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day Six

I know this is about six days too late, but Battlestar Galactica is something near and dear to my heart, and I'd love to be a substitute if any are needed at any point.

Insert, this game has particular voting rules, the official vote is in the thread and not in the poll, and it must be posted in dead red. This is so Goldama can time-stamp the vote.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Night Six

I feel like I've just walked into a movie theatre 2/3rd's of the way through the flick, but from what I've read since I've joined the game, I'd agree with the idea that sig/glorfindel (which is a fun name to type) do seem very similar to Baltar/Six. Enough so that it makes me kind of wary of going fully against them, just in case they are good and can help the civvies.

Ol' Weasely Wabbit is being extra Wabbity so far this game, enough to make me cock an eyebrow his way.

That being said, it'll probably take me a while to come up with any worthwhile theories, since I don't have any past knowledge and only half-understand the game at all. The most I'll be able to do is point at things and say "Yeah, I agree with that!"

 Gee wilikers, I'm mythical now? When did that happen? To be honest, I'm probably notable for two things: Crazy Complicated Avant-Garde (no, not literally, that'd be MP) Games of Mafia, and Crazy Ballsy Gambits in Mafia Games, such as the "everybody wins" strategy in Oblique Strategies, and the "I have a magical program that tells me who's bad" stratagem from the first Game of Champions.

Not really known for my extensive case building, or mid mafia gameplay.

This middle bit of a mafia game that we currently seem to be in now is usually my least favorite part. It seems everything is based on deeply held grudges who often turn out to be civ on civ, and intense dissection of posts from a month ago. Everybody seems to be set in their ways as to who is bad, and they aren't really open to grand discussion, only confirmation of their own ideas and NO U'ing anybody who disagrees.

All that being said, I'm gonna have a hard time not voting for Glorfindel today. Yes, I think there's a very good chance he's Caprica Six, but there's still some definite ambiguity as to her motives, and I have some doubts that they line up with the civilian ones.

Also, I think that lynching Glorfindel would be the most educational move at this point. He's the new hot topic around here, and revealing his ultimate orientation would definitely shine some light on some personal motivations.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day 7

So in this scenario, Laura Roslin, Billy Keikeya, and Gaius Baltar head the mafia while Cavil and Doral are actually pro-town.

For anyone who has seen the show, this seems utterly absurd.

I don't want to "blind people with lore," but Golden has tried to be faithful to the show in most aspects of the game, and making a seemingly random smattering of people actually mafia and ignoring everything from the actual show doesn't seem like something he'd do.

If you need descriptions for two other characters, here they are:

major character 1: so there's this dude with a alcoholic surgeon dad who is kind of a dick to him, so when the dude grows up and also becomes a big surgeon man he treats his old pops like shit and blows up any chance his daddy ever had at getting his shit together, naturally the dude thinks this is his dad's fault, so the dad dies after an epic bender in australia, and the dude comes down under to pick him up and then his plane crashes! so now he's on this island and overcompensating for everything

major character 2: so there's this dude who grew up in a foster home and his mom comes and finds him when hes like 40 and introduces him to his dad who's a con-man piece of shit who steals his kidney, and the dude gets angry and meets katey sagal and they get together and things get kinda good, but then his dad comes back, fakes his own death, and tries to help his son get some money in order to kinda even things out; the dude lies, katey sagal gets pissed and he loses her and the money; then his dad comes back into town a third time, and the dad ends up murdering some dude and his son finds out and confronts him and is then pushed out a window putting him into a wheelchair then he goes to australia in order to prove he's like a man and shit and then his plane crashes! so now he's on this island and overcompensating for everything

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day 8

The problem that I'm currently faced with is my complete lack of knowledge of the players and the history of this game. Don't get me wrong, I am reading and forming impressions, but it's hard for me to accurately judge cases based on votes and reactions and events that occurred days ago, especially in a game as idiosyncratic as this one. This makes choosing which case to believe tricky, as my well of objective knowledge is limited to 2 in-game days ago. But, the Admiral wants three names and three sets of reasonings, and that's what he'll get.

In no real order:
1) bea - this case seems to be the one based on the most stone-cold facts, as bea has a pretty sketchy voting record, which she herself would tell you. I don't know if I am getting a baddie vibe simply from her posts, but it's hard to argue with facts

2) SVS ~ anytime anyone posts a case on someone similar to the one Polo posted on SVS, I want to go with it even if there are some leaps made. You say gullible, I say willing to test in order to see what information is revealed. It feels like Polo has some info on her that we all lack, and I kinda want to give him the benefit of the doubt.

3) Sokolth ~ all of his reads that he posted seemed fishy to me, and G-Man's case on him made a fair amount of sense as well.

B. As I stated in my last post: bea's weirdo record plus the cases against her are enough for me to justify a mild suspicion of her
C. I want to test SVS and rabbit, and see if their interpretations have merit.

Yesterday, I found SVS a little suspicious, but I was willing to trust her and bea. Look how that turned out. So she's someone I'm definitely looking at.
With all the cylons, I think we should adopt a guilty until proven innocent attitude. Just statistically, they are way more likely to be bad, as I'd guess only a small number are good. So the fact that he's a cylon plus Rico's solid case on him makes me want to vote for Epignosis today. I'm also not trusting indiglo's passionate support of Wilgy, but he's not at the top of my shitlist for today. I still find Sokoth suspicious for pretty much the same reasons I said yesterday, but it's a weak read compared to SVS and Epi.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day 9

Post 2

(Where in the law does it say we have to number our posts? I must have missed that part.)

It looks like the lynch is tied up with my 2 biggest suspects right now: Epi and SVS.

Of course, we know Epi is a cylon, but of course there's a lot of controversy over whether or not he's in fact a good one. Athena in the show ended up being way more friendly to the Battlestar crew than Boomer. I could definitely see a version of this game where both Sharon Valerii's are civ, or their win conditions are topsy-turvey and can change on a dime, which is where I'd put my money.

Plus, Epi will still be around and still be outed if we decide to vote for what I think may be an equally strong candidate: SVS

So, that's who I'm gonna have to go with.

VOTING S~V~S

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mafia - Day 10

I'd love to of seen a game like this about Lost played with a bunch of Lost fans, all of which intimately knew the lore and were in constant show-referencing debate over how it relates to the game.

This is a great, unique mechanic that has the effect of completely unsettling the entire thread.

Much like in the show, cylons are slowly beginning to integrate with the crew of the Battlestar, while they face great opposition from people who assume they are in fact bad and from themselves, as the ultimate objective in their coding remains a mystery.

Epignosis is a cylon that I switch between trusting and not trusting, seemingly with every post he posts. I don't see or agree with his case on Dex, and I share Wilgy's concerns of a runaway bandwagon.

So I'm gonna pick the boring obvious choice and vote for John Cavil.

OA, Wilgy, Epig, and all of the F5 are people I'm gonna try and research in the future. I feel like I don't have enough info in this oblique game to securely condemn any of them.

YESSSSSS

You people have no idea how happy I was when I found out I'd be playing as the one, the only, Gaius Frakkin' Baltar. ObscureAllure was a great BTSC partner, even though most of the checks I did were useless.

Ironically enough, I kept flip flopping back and forth on whether I should try and aim for a civ or Cavil win. I was honestly leaning towards working with the Cavils if I could. My strategy was to act dumb for a certain period of time, gather as much info as I could, be a non-target, and then backstab some fools. :slick:

Unfortunately, SVS and company didn't know this and Nightkilled me. They also would have gotten me definitely on their side if they NK'd ObscureAllure.

WE COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT TEAM

@Golden - This is, in my humble opinion, the Gold Standard for turning a TV Show or existing property into a game of mafia. Each role was ingeniously written to replicate the same character dynamics in the game as there was in the show, while being innovatively complex in terms of mafia mechanics as well. I loved the air of unease and uncertainty that everyone had in the thread, once again very similar to the show.

In this game, Mafia and Life imitated Art, and it was amazing.
