Re: [Orientation] The Office Mafia

Aw, I didn't even consider any actual benefit of what I voted today. I just went off the fact that nothing (to my knowledge) happened with Draconus's game. I think I'll keep my vote on personnel and hope for a role list. Assuming there's BTSC or some other character relationships that we don't know about it might help me assign roles to players.

Lol so a good civvie should ignore you in general? Got it
That's what I got from Matt's apparent ploy.

Can I just say that I'm totally over people throwing out some random question, other people finding that question suspicious, and then the original person saying that their question was supposed to be suspicious, and because other people reacted to it, they are now suspicious.

It's just BS 99% of the time, and there's no merit to the "bait scum by acting weird" thing at all. Every time I see it used it just seems less and less productive.

But hey, people are gonna play the way they're gonna play. Far be it from me to judge them.
Image

That whole "JK, I was just baiting the real baddies, everything I've said is a lie but I'm totally a civvie" is my least favorite tactic currently in vogue. Civvies are supposed to work together, so deliberately posting false opinions in the thread strikes me as counter-productive to one's supposed allies.

Anyway, I don't see anything suspicious about what SVS originally said, and thus Splints and Scotty helping to clarify that point are also not suspicious for doing so. The only one who looks at all shady here is Matt, but every game I think Matt is suspicious for his weird gameplay, so I don't want to read too much into that just yet.
It also kind of feels like an excuse to fall back on when an opinion is presented that backfires. 'Oh, that wasn't my real opinion, it was totally just so I could evoke responses and find someone new to point the finger at'.

I've already forgotten who it was that tried using this tactic. But whoever you are, you should imagine some red-headed 20 year old peering suspiciously at you from outside your window. :suspish:

this sounds reasonable tbh. if we take stock in the 'which folder should we open first' scenario from before we might open them all by Day 3. But the personnel thing didn't reveal anything so we could just be overthinking it and i could really have just been a check-in poll.

Are you trying to frame me WIlgy?
Nah, framing you this early might get the cops involved.

I actually didn't realize that both the players I asked had interactions with you (i've been skimming). I still look forward to thier responses nonetheless. Hey INH and Quin, if someone were to target you right now, who would that person be?
That depends on what I'm being targeted with.

If Pam is able to detect lies in all statements (excluding the obvious), I wonder whether it matters if the statement is made by someone who knows whether or not its the truth themselves. I'm going to ask Dom about it, and if he says it's right, it might be a good idea to just stockpile a whole bunch of hypotheses so she can gather information.

If a statement can be rendered true or false (i.e. Factual not opinion based) and does not break the alignment rule I gave earlier then it is check able.
So, let's come up with some hypotheses for our good pal Pam.

There are items in this game.
We will eventually receive a complete role list.
Voting for either of the three options on Day 0 would have had had a different effect on the game.

I would iso the posts of those I suspected looking for potential true/false statements. Mechanics will be revealed eventually by the host. An LD is supposed to look for lies. It has nothing to do with role usage.

How would determining game mechanics help catch baddies?
Not everything has to be done to help catch baddies. Frankly, it might not help at all. Half of what I was trying to do in turf wars was trying to understand mechanics and I like to think we were better for it down the line. Information is good no matter how it is used, from my perspective. None of this was done for the purpose of distracting the lie detector, I just couldn't think of anything else she can be used for on Day 1.

Talking to you now there are some things she could check. x and y are on a team, for example, would be a good start.

So she could check one "X & Y are on a team" per night?

It seems to make more sense to let her feel her way through peoples posts than directing her where we would like her to go (directing, yeah that was what your post felt like). That just felt very seriously diversionary to me.
These are all things that I think would be good to know, I didn't really think about what they wanted to do with their role at all actually. :p But I'll iterate that though I think they'd be good to know, of course there's no obligation.

But yes, I don't think 'x & y are on a team' breaks the terms of her role.

You didn't explain the difference as much as explain what you perceive the reasoning behind your own to be.

Looking back at Quin, I'm not thrilled with his "What do you think of me" post to timmer. Why would a civ even be concerned over that? Additionally, though I like the idea behind his list, the three ideas he proposed seem to be wastes of the lie detector. I'm going to compile a list of things that I think would be useful for Pam to have available to lie detect, should she find no better options in my next post.

My vote is currently between Quin and Scotty rn.
Why wouldn't I?

1) I don't want to be lynched, so I'm covering my bases to figure out if there's any pending accusations I need to address.
2) I want to form my own opinion on those who have previously expressed some degree of suspicion of me.
3) I don't want to fly under the radar by avoiding those same people. I've got nothing to hide so there's no reason why I should.

This makes no sense. If she was to check mechanics, how would she let the thread know what she learned? She can't without exposing herself. Who wants her to expose herself? The baddies.

Not everything has to be done to help catch baddies.
I think this might be the first time I've ever been left speechless in a mafia game. I'm at a loss for words.

This also might be the easiest Day 1 vote I've ever had.

If you think that was a baddie slip you need to have another go at reading it.

I guess that's just how people are interpreting it. I'm trying to say that rather than doing everything for the direct purpose of catching a baddie out, we can act to collect information.

Re: [DAY ONE] The Office Mafia

And with this information, the potential lies to make more accurate accusations to catch baddies.

I figured this last part would be inferred, but just so I didn't have to keep addressing it, I'm spelling it out.

That's not the point I got from it. What I got is that if you are a civ, then that's the most antithetical thing you could possibly believe if you want to do well in this game.

The most powerful tool the civs have is the lynch for a reason.
Frankly, I disagree.

Re: [DAY ONE] The Office Mafia

Anyway, I'm switching my vote to Wilgy, for self preservation purposes.

You don't want to lynch me, because alignment aside, if I am lynched, the mafia will be given a significant advantage over the town in the next night phase.

I have to go to a birthday thing now. I apologise in advance if you lynch me. :nicenod:

Dom has given the okay for that statement. No rules are broken in saying it!

Re: [DAY ONE] The Office Mafia

Hey, I'm alive!

I didn't enjoy voting Wilgy (rip) and would have loved to jump on the BWT wagon had I seen it being developed as an alternative. I agree that it was opportunistic.

If Pam were to check my earlier statement about the consequences of lynching me I'd feel better, even if it only means one person knowing for sure I'm a civ. But yeah, weigh your options.

Voting Sales, because why not.

Re: [DAY ONE] The Office Mafia

Specifying the night phase would, I think, infer more than just a dead townie. Dom gave the okay because it didn't break the info dumping rule.

That's as clear as mud. If it weren't in our best interests to lynch you because the town needs you, and it's not info dumping...how...can you be town aligned?
You should ask Dom to clarify his rules if you're confused, I think. He would do a much better job of explaining what is considered as info dumping to him than I would.
