Re: TSARS [Week 1 - "Beneath the Brine"]

Walter's so-called axiom was so easy to invalidate, starting with his own amendment to the so-called sacred timeline rule, in that pre-89 artists would not automatically turn to shit once stepping into post-89, but would carry on as legit great artists, due to their "superior intelligence in creating art" or something - nevermind the idea that aging well and wisely is hardly proven in music, given that more than half of the "old timers" have sounded embarrasing in more recent decades. But that would mean that Radiohead (a band technically formed in 1985) would count as good. Which he never allowed. So there goes his "logic". I don't recall how he felt about Porcupine Tree, but if he approved of them - or, even better, if he approves these days of Wilson's reworking of prog recordings - he's even more of a hypocrite.

He was an utter troll who picked a good theme to act obstinate about - a closed loop in which you would only feed him troll food and he would only bait you back. A heartily passionate troll for his 20-year-or-so bubble of prog rock and whatever else he liked - especially when it comes to King Crimson, iirc - but a troll nonetheless.

I can tell the interest in this thread dipped this week, judging by the views of vidya #2. Half of which were me rechecking it. Week 4, at this rate, will be me talking to myself. :p

Also, I'm a total noob at this, so if anyone has specific technical suggestios how to adjust the colors of my recording, lemme know. I can tell my ugly forehead is glowing. Thing is, if I edit the visual before trimming and such, the previewing in Sony Vegas will start lagging as heck.

Also #2, if this was supposed to be a "behemot of an album", wonder what that makes of the usual ambient juggernauts I listen to. :p

It's a more tragic "time consumption" from my angle. The only thing I've gained ground on since week one is that I convert the raw video overnight, and render the final form whilst I'm studying, post-editing. Sort of like leaving the food in the oven for two hours. But I still spend half a day cooking it.

I created this. Currently containing only the members who have rated (or implied a rating for) at least one album. If anyone else wants to add theirs, write it down here and will modify. Ratings with decimals and out of 10 ratings have been approximated to the 5-star scale. If the conversions are not accurate, notify that and will modify.

But I'd agree, the lyrics are the least I concern myself with on Swans' '10s trilogy - The Glowing Man had especially uber edgy and hard to believe ones, probably in light of accusations against Gira that probably happen to be true.

But com'on, Swans' level of creativity and concept on this trilogy has been Philip Glass on dark ritual steroids level. And I'm saying this liking them.

Those accusations that are most likely true are why I haven't listened since. If Gira kicks the bucket i might be persuaded to try again, though.
Always a thorny issue, how an artist's "scuminess" as a human being affects listening to his art. Perhaps easier if you don't like / care much for it.

Re: SAW [Week 4 - "Bish Bosch"]

^I'm inclined to feel the opposite overall, in terms of distancing from the person, but not the art. With exceptions from case to case, of course. In your example, I'm not sure how relevant MJ still *was* at those times of infamy, but I don't think it would be cause to stop me from enjoying, whenever I still hear them, his *(way) prior* catchy classic singles, just like I did back when I was 5 and MTV'ing hard.

It's different when the controversial stuff coincides with a current or past period of time from which you hold his artistic output in high or even relevant regard.
