Re: Blue Velvet Mafia {DAY 0}

Open BTSC and encouraged roleclaiming. This is different than the Syndicate norm. Let's all awkwardly try to figure out how to play with these new rules.

Also hot damn i'm playing a mafia game again.

Re: Blue Velvet Mafia {DAY 1}

LC's LMS slip indicates to me that he's not scum. It is least likely that he'd misunderstand a rolecard that says "You are mafia, and your teammates are A & B." He could be a true LMS role, but this is a Heist, we can only have 3 non-vanilla roles. Would INH use one of those 3 slots on a LMS rogue? Genuinely asking.

I'm reading LC as town. Dizzy as an early suspect. Wilgy also made an early post in which he asked who or what we were hunting this game. I wanted to follow up on that.

Hyper defense mode? Really? I don't think I've been defensive at all. It turns out I made a joke I forgot about that I cleared up. Otherwise I've been focusing my actual energy into questioning Timmer and being impatient for players to join the fun.

What do I have to do with one of your scum games? I've had both town and scum games on this site, and you've been present at least for one town one.

This puzzles me a lot.
Yes. Your responses to Epi seemed to scream "Don't look at me! I don't like this!". It is similar to how I responded to early pressure in my one and only scum game on this site. You are not me, but it's something I'm taking note of here on Day 1.

What have you got out of your questioning of timmer?

What have you got out of your questioning of timmer?
Huh. I will be interested in hearing other people's perspective on this, since I am me and can't see myself from the outside. I'm not a player who's shy, I've played a hundred mafia games and am not afraid of "pressure" as town or scum, though I tend to blend more as scum. I can be intense and vocal for sure. Additionally, with Epi specifically I think we have quite different thought processes, which is something I've noted in the past. I've wanted to understand where he was coming from, and would actually like to hear more from him.

I don't particularly like your "something I'm taking note of here on Day 1". It's similar to Timmer's "good enough for Day 1". I think it's a cop-out.
It's "something I'm taking note of on Day 1" because Day 1 reads are generally just preliminary. I do not have a fully formed read on you or anyone else, but this is a thing I've observed which may indicate scumminess on your part. It is not a cop out. I am embracing and pursuing it as an avenue for questioning right now.
What I got from Timmer was that I had a hard time follow his thought process of how LC was guilty based on his LMS comment (something you also contest). I also don't like what seems to be disinterest in going deeper into the situation to understand it or exploring other possibilities. Refering here to both the comment about that he will probably vote LC later, and the general standoffish "you know what I mean" vibe. I don't know Timmer as a player. That said I'm suspicious here. I'm also waiting to see more.
I like this. I want to see timmer branch out into other topics soon.
And you've caught my interest with this.

It's been like a solid 2 weeks or more I think since I've last tried to mafia so I'm out of the mindset.

I will say though I've had an interesting day 0/1 so far. I we'll see how long it keeps up
He pledges to lay low at the start of this game. It's a valid strategy. But it's an easy way to coast through Day 1 and maybe beyond. I don't like to let players do that if it can be avoided. So I prodded him:

Personally I think you are now trying to get people to THINK you want to be lynched, hence the groovy over the top avatar and the "wet caverns of hell" rhetoric. Very fun.

And no BTS because I would rather you say what you have to say in front of everyone. I think the first PM you sent me was the truth of it, and I don't think you expected me to do this. It was a calculated risk, and I don't think you would have done it without a back up plan. But that plan won't involve any private manipulation of me.

You reacted exactly as I would expect a player to react after receiving a PM like the one Wilgy sent you. I don't see a reason to vote for him based off this.

Voting for Llama held potential for adding to the lynch drama by putting someone in the lead.

If baddies are just going to sit back and let the civvies do all the hard work of building cases against other civvies, then I may as well start looking at the blendy folk. Wilgy fits that description for me thus far.
OK, Wilgy sent me a PM. He asked if I was bad. And told me that if I was and had my bad teammates do a specific thing, something that was good for the bad team (and for Wilgy) would happen.

I am not sure I want to go into any more detail than that. I would like to hear Wilgys explanation. In the thread. He can be cryptic if he likes, I will understand him.

Plus there is also the whole possible "he wants to be lynched" thing to consider. But I think he would not have picked me for that, I think he really thought I was bad. He usually does.
I would expect any player receiving a message like this to bring it to light in the thread. I think Wilgy would have expected you to react this way as well.

I have no idea why he would lie about this. And the way he reacted to me going right to the thread did not lead me to think it was not true.

I feel surest about a lynch of Wilgy today. Just like you feel surest about Nutella, although I am not sure I agree with you. This is based on what he said to me, and then how he reacted and what he said after I put it to the thread.

I will happily talk about what he said to me when he is gone, and indeed, I have already told one person.

So... what does it mean to vote someone for protection? You think they're Civ? You just want them to make it further?

DharmaHelper and speedchuck voted for nutella to be protected last night. Contrast that to Sloonei's instant vote on nutella today. I'd like to hear you gentlemen talk that out a little.

G-Man and Long Con both voted DH for protection. I gave my reason, but I haven't looked back to remind myself of G-Man's. I want vote-order to be part of our polls again as well. I'd like to easily be able to see who voted for someone when it was clear S~V~S was winning, if that happened. You know, that kind of thing.

Sprityo self-voted. Kind of tragic.

Timmer, Spacedaisy, and Epignosis voted S~V~S, and Epi cast the "deciding" vote. Given that I think Epi is bad, I would say that makes S~V~S look a little better, because I don't see why a baddie would vote to protect a teammate in this situation. The situation being that baddies don't need protecting because they're the ones killing.

S~V~S, nutella, Llama, Rico, Sloonei all voted one-offs.

Ok, Sloonei, I have tried to set the stage for using this as a scum-hunting mechanism. Perhaps some of your ideas on that front will be easier to process no?
@Long Con, why do you think a baddie would be unlikely to vote for a teammate in the protection poll? If they're the ones performing the kill, it does not matter one way or the other who they vote to protect. They could theoretically choose to protect a teammate. There is very little risk with the potential for a reward (a town vigilante, perhaps, could attempt to fire on said teammate).

My thought process on this vote is that scum would generally be less careful with their votes. They know who they are killing, so it does not matter who they vote for. Players who gave no reason or frivolous reasons would be worth looking at. I know I gave no reason. I was away on sick person business for most of the night and realized about 15 minutes peior to the deadline that I had not cast a vote yet. Epi dies early in a lot of games and I had a slight inclination to town read him, so he was my first instinct. My vote didn't seem to matter much anyway.

I suppose I'll dig into his posts later and look to see who he suspects and why, but for now I'm comfy with my vote.
I give those No U's a bit more weight in circumstances like these. Rico is presenting himself as the lowest hanging fruit. Players who go after him are going after the easiest target. There's room for suspicion there.

You're right that my thoughts are more Mafia 101 than game-specific. I'd say that's a product of me being sick and busy, and having only one foot in this game. I see it going on and want to take part, but I've been unable to commit fully to it.

I should take a step back from the Rico defense. I just think the aggression against him has been overzealous. People have been hounding him from the start, and I don't think that's fair. But, like I said earlier, he's not providing as much content as he could, and if that continues then he'll become more suspicious to me.

Kid 1 and I have a lot in common.

Sorry folks. I hope I can be a participant in this game soon. But right now I don't have the energy to concentrate on things.

Were you hoping one of them would be a power role?

Perhaps one or two of them are among the folks who were most annoyed by Poppy.

So annoyed they killed their biggest, best distraction?
Perhaps.

The top post reads like he's asking permission to start a push against Rico. I don't see how the bottom post is relevant here though.

That would be the distracted part.
I took "distracted" in this conversation to mean "distracted by Rico", not "distracted in general." I don't fault a player for being busy. I don't give him town cred for it either.

Was the public protection thing not on a poll? If so killing the 'safe' option feels counterproductive.
Yes. But they wouldn't have known who was going to win the vote, and the poll was tight. Choosing a player like sprit all but ensures that their target would not receive a flurry of votes and cancel out their kill unexpectedly.
It could also have been because he was hinting at "information", or they just wanted to keep us off balance, since he was not a player many people were discussing at all.
